    Roasted pork shank. Yummy!

A quaint place to hang your hat for a night or two. I went in a work trip with 3 other people and we reserved 4 rooms. The reservation process was simple. Check in was nice-the front desk clerk was animated, gave great information, and was helpful. We made dinner reservations right away and she accommodated our needs. Dinner was great and our party of 4 had a night cap outside. The owner is a sommelier and they advertised Wine Down Wednesday! I realized I had locked my key in my room and there was some confusion about getting a new one issued. Check out was simple as well. The room was nicely appointed. I could not figure out how to open the blinds and would have liked to see the view outside. I faced the front yard street. One coworker faced the courtyard and had a nice view. Another had the Susan B Anthony room and enjoyed the history. Overall a nice place to stay.

Birthday dinner in the restaurant at the Windsor Hotel was amazing! The restaurant has an extensive hand crafted cocktail menu, as well as a nice wine list. We started with expertly prepared cocktails and warm, fresh made bread. We then opted for the charcuterie plate, which was a perfect presentation of meats, cheese, jam, cornishons and toasted baguette. For mains, I had the Bison Short Ribs and the blending of flavors in this dish was delectable. The meat was very tender and served with a raisin chutney on top of the ribs, a butternut squash purée under the ribs, and a mint raita on the side. Savory and scrumptious! My husband had the scallops and Gnocchi, and our friends both had the NY Strip. All were perfectly cooked. We then had a delicious assortment of desserts. Tammy was a terrific waitress and made sure we were well taken care of. The ambiance and service were awesome! If you are looking for a fabulous old west atmosphere, wonderful service, excellent food & just a place to enjoy an evening out in Rio Grande or Mineral County, go to the restaurant at The Windsor Hotel.

Had dinner and spent the night at The Windsor Hotel. Had drinks in Bistro Barbara before dinner. The Twentieth Century was a good house cocktail. My only complaint was the high bar tables and chairs. Do bars now think everyone is 6ft tall. A nice man held the chair while I did a very unladylike climb into the seat. Dinner in the Dining room was one of the best meals I have had in a while Compressed Watermelon Salad, Bison Short Ribs melted in you mouth, smoked corn and sautéed greens. My friend had Tomahawk Ribeye, real mashed potatoes and sautéed veggies, including radishes. Dessert was peach pana cotta and chocolate soufflé. Only thing that wasn't outstanding was gazpacho which was much different than I've had before and a little on the spicy side. Will definitely go back again. The menu changes monthly and is locally sourced.

This charming hotel is like brand new. What a treat. The rooms are large and the bed is comfortable The extra treat is the incredible food at their restaurant. Homemade breads big delicious menu and expansive wine list. Super friendly staff. A must stay.

Elegant dining room- most romantic meal in the San Luis Valley!

The Windsor is a charming place for a romantic meal. The dining room is elegant with a full bar, creative cocktails and good wine list. Service is attentive and professional. They accommodated our kids and offer a vegan/vegetarian meal with advanced notice. It would be nice if they offered more vegetarian options. Both times we dined there it was zucchini noodles- more zucchini than most people could eat in a year! Nicely flavored but not very satisfying without a protein component. Other entrees were delicious and the salads were beautiful. I appreciated that much of the produce was local and loved the edible flowers on our plates. There is often live music in the courtyard.

I recently stayed here on a visit to Great Sand Dunes NP. This was a really cute and quirky motel…read moreand I absolutely recommend it to anyone, but especially families with little kids. Pros: Super cute setting with the historic drive-in. Cute artwork throughout and the actor names outside each room is a lovely touch. Rooms were cleaner than I expected. This was close to an hour drive to GSDNP - however, it felt shorter and was a BEAUTIFUL drive. Close to quaint downtowns with good breweries and restaurant options. Super friendly people. When I woke up and left my room to grab breakfast, I heard this strange baaahhhh noise - and BAM! Right outside the room as far as I could see- SHEEP! Right after I grabbed my to-go breakfast, this tall rancher came out with a big cowboy hat and rope, followed by 2 herding dogs to herd the sheep. It was a sight! The kids were ecstatic. I want to say - whether intentional or not - it is SO NICE of the rancher to drive his sheep up so close. It was an unexpected surprise and it honestly bumped up my mood for the rest of the day. What an experience! Suffice to say - this is a great deal and I highly recommend. Cons: Due to COVID precautions there was no hot breakfast (see breakfast room photo below). I was disappointment because I made my reservation via phone to Corporate and they mentioned that a hot breakfast bar was included. More than that though- what a beautiful view! I am sad to have missed out on breakfast there. That said - there are picnic benches outside and so...I still had that great view :) The movies playing that night were a Bon Jovi concert and Scoob. I had zero interest in watching a drive-in Bon Jovi concert - so the front desk attendant mentioned that from my room I would be unable to see Scoob well, so she switched my room out. Unfortunately - all of the rooms are set for one screen option - so even though I could kind of see Scoob from an angle (I could see Bon Jovi concert dead on), from the room, my only audio was the concert. You can hear the other screen if you park your car downstairs and listen to 88.1. OR - bring a radio. It would be nice if they left radios in the rooms. I kind of think it would be fun to make the 2 options like a classic movie and a family movie. The soaps are on the wall in the shower in a box-like container. I pushed super hard and was able to get body wash and conditioner, but I think mine was out of shampoo. That - or I didn't push hard enough..? Unsure. You have to push HARD.

The rooms were very tired, shoddy and bare bones for the price $160 per room per night. We were put…read morein "the annex" and the parking spot in front of our rooms wasn't even paved. They had mice traps outside in front of "the annex". But this was the only option in this area. Don't let the gimmick of the drive in movie get to you, either. It's not worth it. Keep driving. The best I can say was the sheets appeared cleaned.

The can of bedbug spray at the front door should have been enough to send me running. The good news, I checked the bed with cell phone light and bedding appeared clean and bug-free. The toilet wouldn't flush. I never figured out the shower. There appeared to be black mold in the bathroom. No heat, but the heater door was open and vaguely smelled of gas. The furniture in the front room appeared to be "early dump" with the cushions covered with some sort of mat. Drippy stuff down the walls. Awakened at 1:40 AM with a thumping or gnawing noise. Taco mattress. Should have known when checking in to a very unclean counter and the poster on the wall was for the Monte Vista Crane Festival in 2014! I did not receive any bites. The owner explained that they never have any bedbugs, but they spray between guests "because you never know what people may bring"! They did refund my money less a $40 cleaning fee. Which would probably clean it for the next 10 years. YIKES!
