Absolutely delicious with large amounts of crabmeat. We then ordered the duck breast dinner which was amazing! We also ordered the seafood bouillabaisse, which was also super delicious. The staff was welcoming, friendly and wonderful. If you ask, they'll tell you the story of this town landmark that local residents saved from the wrecking ball 24 hours before it was due to be torn down. It's been carefully restored and tells the story of those who traveled the west in the 1800 and 1900s. Highly recommend. Food is good too!! read more

The hotel is great. Very chic, old era vibe yet very clean. The room was spacious, beautifully decorated. The bed was soft and the bathroom area was well planned. We traveled as a group and they were very accommodating. We had dinner at the hotel restaurant and it was fairly priced, service was impeccable and the food was great to the last bite. After dinner, we shared laughs in the hotel lobby, waiting for the ghost of Maude. We didn't get to meet her but we enjoyed hearing her story. read more

A quaint place to hang your hat for a night or two. I went in a work trip with 3 other people and we reserved 4 rooms. The reservation process was simple. Check in was nice-the front desk clerk was animated, gave great information, and was helpful. We made dinner reservations right away and she accommodated our needs. Dinner was great and our party of 4 had a night cap outside. The owner is a sommelier and they advertised Wine Down Wednesday! I realized I had locked my key in my room and there was some confusion about getting a new one issued. Check out was simple as well. The room was nicely appointed. I could not figure out how to open the blinds and would have liked to see the view outside. I faced the front yard street. One coworker faced the courtyard and had a nice view. Another had the Susan B Anthony room and enjoyed the history. Overall a nice place to stay. read more

Birthday dinner in the restaurant at the Windsor Hotel was amazing! The restaurant has an extensive hand crafted cocktail menu, as well as a nice wine list. We started with expertly prepared cocktails and warm, fresh made bread. We then opted for the charcuterie plate, which was a perfect presentation of meats, cheese, jam, cornishons and toasted baguette. For mains, I had the Bison Short Ribs and the blending of flavors in this dish was delectable. The meat was very tender and served with a raisin chutney on top of the ribs, a butternut squash purée under the ribs, and a mint raita on the side. Savory and scrumptious! My husband had the scallops and Gnocchi, and our friends both had the NY Strip. All were perfectly cooked. We then had a delicious assortment of desserts. Tammy was a terrific waitress and made sure we were well taken care of. The ambiance and service were awesome! Just finished spending the day at the 1874 Distillery at the Windsor Hotel in Del Norte, CO eating Washington Oysters and enjoying Bloody Mary's from their home made Vodka's as well as beautiful Mimosa's!! We were also able to enjoy the "Makers Market" that was being held which was quite a treat finding out the Hotel has a Courtyard and being able to wander all the different spaces of the Hotel! There was such a positive energy atmosphere there, I loved it! Every person that I encountered was amazing. We have traveled from Denver to Durango, and back, every other month for 10 years. We always stopped at the Windsor both ways for our meals. The food and service was always very good! Within the last two years every time we stop (remember this is every other month) they have been closed for parties, cooking classes or special events. We are very sad that our favorite place to stop isn't available when we pull through. After checking with them today and they're not open, we just decided to stop trying. Special note: they do have a food truck which is hard to find and isn't very good (a bit perplexing because it's associated with the same hotel). read more

Had dinner and spent the night at The Windsor Hotel. Had drinks in Bistro Barbara before dinner. The Twentieth Century was a good house cocktail. My only complaint was the high bar tables and chairs. Do bars now think everyone is 6ft tall. A nice man held the chair while I did a very unladylike climb into the seat. Dinner in the Dining room was one of the best meals I have had in a while Compressed Watermelon Salad, Bison Short Ribs melted in you mouth, smoked corn and sautéed greens. My friend had Tomahawk Ribeye, real mashed potatoes and sautéed veggies, including radishes. Dessert was peach pana cotta and chocolate soufflé. Only thing that wasn't outstanding was gazpacho which was much different than I've had before and a little on the spicy side. Will definitely go back again. Wish they would let you just get the food or have special dinners with wine optional. I have never had a bad dish here. June 15-18, 2023 stay for a destination outdoor wedding. The Windsor is one of the best hotels (and certainly, the BEST small hotel) I've ever stayed in. The rooms were clean and well appointed. The food at the restaurant and bar were delicious (best late night hamburger I've had). The staff, to a person, were both accommodating and friendly. I highly recommend this quaint downtown Del Norte, Co hotel. I'll be back the next time I visit my friends' ranch. read more

The Windsor is a terrific boutique hotel! The restoration is simply lovely, the rooms are comfortable and the location is in the heart of the community. A special call out should be given to the staff, from check-in to dining, from the outdoor bistro to the dining room, the attention to detail and hospitality are tremendous! The Windsor is a charming place for a romantic meal. The dining room is elegant with a full bar, creative cocktails and good wine list. Service is attentive and professional. They accommodated our kids and offer a vegan/vegetarian meal with advanced notice. It would be nice if they offered more vegetarian options. Both times we dined there it was zucchini noodles- more zucchini than most people could eat in a year! Nicely flavored but not very satisfying without a protein component. Other entrees were delicious and the salads were beautiful. I appreciated that much of the produce was local and loved the edible flowers on our plates. This place was SO MUCH FUN! My wife and I stayed in Pagosa springs with family. We decided to get away for a night and leave mom with the kids. We just started driving and decided to stop about an hour away in Del Norte. The first place we saw to house us was the Windsor. My wife told me how hungry she was, so we just started ordering.... and ordering...and ORDERING! The food was AMAZING!! We met the chef (Tim) who informed us of SIX DIFFERENT menus the place had. We ate so much food we couldn't take another bite! Then we woke up in the morning and ordered five or six more items for breakfast! They even have an ELVIS SANDWICH!!!! The hotel was really cool, and I love historical things. The staff was SO NICE as well.But, the food is what I will always remember. The next time we go to Colorado I can only hope we are withing driving distance of this place. If your within an hour and a half to two hours of the restaurant... Make the drive... read more

My husband and I fell into finding this gem. There are twenty rooms all remodelled and refurbished to today's standards while keeping with the original style of the hotel. Guests set their alarms to wander out for fresh coffee and baked goods. When we were there the chef had made fresh croissants and homemade jam. It was worth getting up early for and shuffling down to the upstairs lobby in the provided robes and slippers. We all stood around with messy hair and sleepy smiles. The staff is beyond incredible. From the time we checked in... the entire staff knew our names and treated us like celebrities. Our meal was one of the best I have EVER eaten. My husband had the wild boar and I had the flat iron steak. There was not one thing about my meal I didn't like. After dinner, we played jenga in the courtyard. The chef came out and talked to us like we were old friends. The bartender gave us samples of bourbon for my husband to try. Because of this my husband now has a new favorite. We will stay here again. if you go tell them Bob and Lauri sent you. We loved this hotel and the staff and the restaurant. This is one place you do not want to miss. This hotel is so historical, beautifully remodeled and with tons of character. We recently went there and enjoyed breakfast in the dining room. The cuisine is not in character for Del Norte, but absolutely delicious! The items are fresh - no canned mushrooms here (yuck)! Fresh and unique flavors like you find in finer 4 star and above hotels and restaurants. My stepfather and I each had an omelette and my mother had huevos rancheros which was tasty with spicy flavors and capers - not a common combination but SO good! The omelettes were great too! I don't eat pork or beef and they were happy to omit the bacon. The veggies were great! The portions are not large but satisfying because they are rich and full of taste. For a larger appetite, I would recommend ordering a side to go with your entree. For example, the omelette was just an omelette - no potatoes or bread of any kind offered with it. I worked at the Zapata Ranch near the Sand Dunes for several years which offered an amazing menu, but we struggled with offering gourmet food that was ample enough for the "meat and potatoes kind of taste," so I would order a little extra. This is the only suggestion I would have for the chef is to provide a bit of a side with some of the items to meet the tastes of the local clientele. The group who restored the hotel, including Architect Mark Jones who happens to have the same name as my brother, who owns a landscape company, MJ's Dirt Works, in the Valley, has been working to restore the property since 1993 and it looks amazing! They used local contractors to do the work, and that is so refreshing to stimulate that local economy! I grew up all around the San Luis Valley and remember phases of the old hotel. One of them being the Wild West Emporium where the hotel had an old western themed cat walk around the entire facade of the building. My grandfather sold meat for Bar S and I remember him taking me there for candy as a child. The staff has photos in the lobby which triggered my memory, because the hotel has been so nicely renovated I wouldn't have recognized it. It was completely abandoned at one point and was almost demolished, which would have been a tragedy. Last being said, the rich history of that whole area - with gold mining and such - is worth checking out all over the San Luis Valley and surrounding Mountain areas. There was once a lot of money in the area and treasures hidden by French miners are still searched for by some. We were told the hotel is known for 9 ghosts, including Maude, a wealthy woman who came from Creede, Colorado (about 20-30 minutes from Del Norte, where they are currently filming the Disney movie Tonto and the Lone Ranger with Johnny Depp - so cool for Colorado!). Sadly, Maude walked across from the Windsor, bought a gun and killed herself. Many people have said they have seen her moving around the hotel, and especially in room 209. I can't wait to go back to check it out more, and take my daughter who is 12 and loves exploring those types of historical places! Completely worth visiting! read more

This hotel is amazing! I am here in Rio Grande County for a trial. I was expecting the worst and found the best. It is a lot like the Brown Palace in Denver without the pretentiousness. The rooms are luxurious and huge with tons of sunlight. The proprietor Hallie couldn't be nicer. The hotel has tons of history and character. There is even a friendly ghost named Maude who is quite mischievious. I hope we won this phase of our trial so I can come back in January! read more

This place is fantastic. If you want to stay at a very nice hotel this is the one. It's extremely history, cleaned up well, comfy beds, many TV channels, very nice TV, couches and chairs to sit in, and a large bathroom. They even have a cappuccino maker out in the hallway for in the morning! I enjoyed my stay very much. I didn't like the owners too much though. They were weird and unpleasant. I don't think they meant anything bad from it, that might just be how they are. Either way it's a great place to stay! read more

Perhaps our expectations were too high from all the other 5-star reviews. The atmosphere is lovely, to be sure. Historic hotel, life piano music in the background. And considering there are only four restaurants in the town of Del Norte, to have such an upscale place is a pleasant surprise. However, the menu is limited. And of the four of us, who all ordered different entrees, none of them merited 5-stars. The appetizer (roasted cauliflower salad with golden raisins and sliced almonds over pea pesto) and the chocolate souffle dessert with vanilla bean sauce DEFINITELY merited 5-stars. I should start off by saying, this review is WELL OVER DUE!! I don't write many reviews, but feel this needs to be said. These guys are amazing and have been for years. I travel for work and thus have a strong allegiance to a chain that rewards points. However, if I am traveling anywhere near the Windsor I will leave those rewards on the table and drive extra to stay here. This team goes out of their way to make you feel appreciated. They learn your name quickly and do anything they can to make you feel special. I am talking little things, like mail your phone charger back to you, remember your favorite dish from their excellent menu, and even what your drink of choice is. ( I should add I have only been here 6 times over the last 12 months) On top of that, they are doing a great job keeping their staff and patrons healthy and feeling safe during these crazy Covid times. This team is THE definition of customer service. I have recommended the Windsor to anyone I know going anywhere near DelNorte or Alamosa and all have been impressed. This place is amazing. Right in the small downtown of Del Norte, Colorado. The building is so beautiful. Our room was a second floor corner room. Tons of natural light, spacious room, comfy bed, plush robe, large flat screen, and a large modern bathroom. Each staff member we came across was so nice. The dining room was a very pleasant surprise!!! One of, if not the best, dining experience I've had in Colorado. (And I live in Colorado and dine in Denver often). Hotel is also one block from 3 barrel brew and tap house. Overall a very enjoyable stay. I hope to be back. read more

5 Stars??? Here is why... Its historical, beautiful, the bar and dining room are top notch. I have stayed here twice and paid $99 & $130 per night. That is a very competitive price in the area for the other corporate seen it all before motel with plastic rooms and décor. The Windsor is pure class for the price range. The rooms are unique, comfortable and spacey. Don't even think about staying anywhere else near or in Del Norte if you want a real Hotel with a real Classy Cowboy feel. read more
