Happy hour home made slice of pizza and a beer only $5
Mary Q.

Windward bar is located inside of Kailua Whole foods. (They revamped it, but it looks the same to me) great beer on tap, on Fridays Prime members get 2 slices of pizza for $5 and $1 fresh Oysters that they will shuck for you in the seafood dept. ! Happy hour pricing, you can eat inside or out, it's a great casual Kailua hang out, and we always run into some one & end up talking story. You can order from their menu or buy a poke bowl or salad bar inside, order a beer or 2 and eat outside. And they have a Moichi ice cream bar!! Grab one of their baked daily desserts while you're there too. It's like a huge modern cafeteria! I also love how they are dog friendly outside as well. Thursdays is Farmers Market, so it can be busy. Grocery shopping and having a beer or cider afterwards as a reward, what more can a woman want?!

Everytime I go to this Whole Foods bar I am blown away! The food is always on point! Their Kalua Pork Nachos are out of this world. They do not skimp on the Kalua Pork like other places. You'll get large chunks of shredded juicy smoke pork, covered in gooey melted cheese and topped with a large helping of avocado. Here they actually cut their crinkle cut fries thin, and it's a great trend! I'm not usually a fan of crinkle cuts, but they are doing it right! I finally got to try Paradise Ciders on Tap. I am absolutely smitten with their Prickly Pear, wow! Great selection of beers on tap!

I love having a Whole Foods close enough to walk to, but being in downtown with all the tourists means it's so jam packed and crazy, I practically only go here if I'm willing to walk. At first we were thrilled that WF had their own tap room and bar, but after repeated bad experiences, I drag my feet now if my husband wants to go. Positives are that they pour local brews and circulating others, and have interesting items on their menu. Also, it's one of the only places with good prices to fill growlers, which we like doing. Negatives are pretty much everything else. Service is horrible, the wait is super long, the food is mediocre, and good luck getting anything unless you're sitting at the bar. Definitely the place I will only be going to for growler fills and then getting the heck out of there.

Started our pub crawl here, friendly staff. Happy hour doesn't apply on weekends but they had $4 pint specials on a few. Lots of parking

Healthy, organic, soy-based food, to name a few. Always had a preconceived notion that healthy meals can't taste as good as "un-healthy" ones. I've been proven wrong, as of late, thanks to my partner. After an afternoon hike at Lanikai Pillboxes, we decided to have lunch at Windward Bar. The menu, though not plentiful, has options to fulfill your craving. I went with their Fish and Chips. A sucker for Fish and Chips, it caught my attention and interest to experience it made the healthy way. I was far from disappointed. Plated beautifully, fish juicy, a relish tarter sauce to accompany -- best version I've had. My partner had a Taro Burger which was just as delicious. This burger will be indulged in on my next visit. The Windward Bar is a must try when searching for a casual eatery with great food when in the Kailua Town area.

The team here is awesome. This is a great place to kick back and enjoy a casual evening. Casey, Rick, Levi, Ellie, Kayla, and Tina are always a pleasure. The food is great. The team is so friendly. They are always happy and pleasant. Happy hour has great prices.

Valentine's Day tasting menu
Lily B.

This is doomed to be a somewhat biased review since it's only based on one experience, and more specifically a special event. The Windward Bar offered a $35 multi-course tasting menu this Valentine's Day that far exceeded all our expectations, in terms of quantity and quality of the food. From the bloody Mary oyster shooter to the raspberry cheesecake, with everything else in between, including the ahi poke, fried chicken and heart-shaped waffles, bison sliders, berry salad, Thai pumpkin and coconut soup and grilled cheese, and ceviche and purple sweet potato chips, everything was beautifully prepared and presented. We had a minor complaint that it took too long for the food to come out, but for the price and what we got, it was an amazing dinner. The courses were definitely larger than one would expect a "tasting menu" would have, and they aren't regular items on the menu at the bar. The place wasn't busy, so maybe they overestimated the number of guests and thus had surplus ingredients for those who did come. We were all stuffed way before the end of the meal, and it seemed like everyone else had a big portion of food boxed up as well. Who would've thought a Valentine's Day dinner on the back patio at Whole Foods would be such a good idea?

Of course, the price here in Hawaii is $10.99, but that's still a pretty good special. I used the app and got a pan crust large, with Italian sausage, onions, mushrooms, and extra cheese, along with couple of dipping sauces. The pizza is ready pretty quickly, I just wish the service at this location was, as well. The place is clean, and they have tables for dining, but it really looks like the majority of their business is takeout and delivery. They have 3 large video screens over the front counter, but none of them were on. I think they normally would display food products or food orders in the queue. I stood at the counter for over 5 minutes, while the 2 employed that I could see, just went along doing their business (one was cooking, while the other was prepping for a delivery), and never even acknowled me. The delivery guy walked by me twice without even looking at me. Finally, a third person came out of the back and came up to the counter to ask me if I was picking up an order. I gave him my name and he checked the warming tray at the front and grabbed my pizza (it had been ready for a while). At that point, I was out in less than a minute. I understand that they are probably sort-staffed, but any quick acknowledgement when I walk in would be nice. I know they need to do their job, but isn't serving the customer who's right in front of you, a priority? The pizza was good, anyway.

Valentina's is in the parking lot of Tap & Barrel by Lanikai Brewing Company and their main food option. So if you're a beer fan, this is a great compliment to locally made styles of beer. The kitchen is in a trailer outside, and their food is available to go whether or not you're visiting the taproom. They have a bunch of different special options, with most featuring local ingredients. A highlight is the Bee's Knees with spicy honey, pepperoni, and pesto; rich but light. Their prices are reasonable for the quality; one pizza is the perfect size for two people, or more if you're looking for a snack. The staff is great, quick to serve. If you're enjoying the taproom, you can order with your server and they'll bring it to your table. Tap & Barrel has bar seating, high tops, booths, and my favorite outdoor tables to bring the furry friends and dine al fresco. If you love pizza and are looking for something different in the Kailua area, this one is recommended.

Both areas were not very friendly AND the process took such a long time! Maybe they were upset that we were not ordering beer! Felt uncomfortable. I appreciate a local business & I know how hard it is to own/run one in Hawai'i.

Pizza in my opinion is something of a simple art and less of a fussy creation. Really good pizza…read moredoesn't need truffle oil or kobe beef, because it can lean on its simple quality of ingredients to pull in consumers, instead of wow them with trendy toppings. In my life, I have come across a handful of such standouts in crazy places such as France and Connecticut, and I can now confidently add to that list Hawaii. My husband and I found Fire Dance Pizza at our local farmers market on Sundays in Kailua, when the smell of sourdough wafted through the air around some fresh poi and produce. We bought a pizza, thinking nothing of it, and sat down to eat. Like the movie Ratatouille, each ingredient was like a musical instrument and the bites were like a song. This was not just pizza, this was something magical. The owners and operators start with a naturally fermented yeast dough, throw it into a super hot brick oven, and top its chewy goodness with freshly blistered cherry tomatoes, evoo, crushed garlic, and mozzarella, or goat cheese, and other simple but delicious items. Don't be thinking you're going to get stuffed crust, ranch dip, and canned olives, all these ingredients are fresh. After a few weekends of coming here every Sunday for what we have deemed our "breakfast pizza," we have made our decision that this is the perfect way to routinely celebrate the weekend. Prices are fair, between $12-16 per pizza, which is enough for the two of us to split, or one very hungry surfer. Talks of opening up a brick and mortar restaurant are in the works, and when that happens, you know we'll be there. With pizza like this available, you won't see me getting excited about pizza anywhere else on the island.
