I decided to have dinner and drinks with one of my best friends after a photo shoot at Kailua beach park. We had no issue at all with parking which is always a win when you're in the middle of Kailua, My friend and I both ordered the Li Hing mui margarita blended and you know it lasted us the whole time we sat at our table lol. Their margaritas are served in fishbowl glasses and so yummy! I also ordered their Birria tacos with consommé. It was okay. I felt like I tasted more oil and grease and couldn't put my finger on the taste of the consommé sauce. Our waitress was so kind and upbeat. She offered us another round to which we declined and had a smile on her face every time she came around. Food is seriously yum and plentiful. Decor is totally cantina. The bar was packed. Outside seating was full as well. Restrooms were feeling the heat. As were the staff. But don't let that deter you. We waited quietly and patiently at the check in counter, and watched the staff walk between taking orders, delivering water and dishes. No one caught our eye to say we'll be with you in a minute, even if they stood right in front of us touching their counter pad. We thought we were being ignored. We didn't try to stop anyone, though. Others from behind squeezed past us to just get seats at the bar. However, we had a group of five wanting to dine in at a table. I watched as seated guests waited for someone to take their orders. As soon as staff were able to engage, we were greeted, and advised where we'd be seated once another staff member had mopped the floor by the table. And then the service was great from there. Well into our meal, which was delish(!), with water refills and requests fulfilled, we discovered there was a brand new gal on deck who was trying to be helpful with utensils and napkin prep, but no one had a chance to train during the lunch rush, which was above the normal crowd because of the wonderful community event right outside - the "I Love Kailua" street fair). Everything was just super busy. And I say lunch rush with tongue in cheek because it was well past the lunch hour and people were still lining up out the door. So glad everyone was patient and were able to enjoy their food and beverages (we weren't drinking but those margaritas looked fire!) in air conditioned comfort. My boyfriend and I were craving Mexican food, so we decided to get takeout from Mexico Lindo, and we really enjoyed it! I ordered the California burrito, and my boyfriend got the chimichanga. This was my first time having a California burrito served wet with red sauce on top, and I liked it! The burrito was moist, packed with tasty ingredients, and the sauce added an extra layer of richness. My boyfriend has been here before and always raves about the chimichanga, so of course he enjoyed his meal. I had a bite of the chimichanga and it was pretty good! The enchiladas and black beans were good, the rice wasn't my favorite. $4 for chips and homemade salsa, but the salsa tasted like PACE picante sauce. Requested hotter salsa and they gave me habanero, definitely had the spice I was looking for. My friend had 2 beef and 2 chicken tacos - it was Taco Tuesday, they came out with lots of meat. I love coming here for the pleasant, friendly service and quality food. Today, I ordered the usual $4 chips and salsa. I don't mind paying for it because the salsa is very tasty and has perfect spice. It is saucy, not watery - I love that! If I remember correctly, the chips used to be warm, but was more like it came out of a bag today and kind of hard rather than crispy. I noticed they no longer have ala carte items on the menu, so things are in the high teens and twenties as far as the cost. It's ok, the quality is worth it and I can take leftovers home. I mentioned that I needed to head out for an appointment in 1 hour. My mini quesadillas filled with melted cheese, moist shredded chicken (hold the sour cream) with quac and pico de gallo on the side came in 7 minutes! Plenty of time to eat and write this review. The restaurant filled up on this Thursday at 12:15pm. I'm not surprised! I love that they have both Tapatio (my go to Mexican hot sauce) as well as Cholula hot sauce on the table. I was happy to have Allison serve me as she has in the past. She is so friendly and helpful in ordering my item. It's such a delight to have her here-what a gem! The food was okay, but definitely overpriced for what it is... my taco salad was $25! That's too much for taco salad & Mexican food in my opinion. The portion size was fair, but I didn't like that the taco shell wasn't crunchy and tasted like it was fried in old oil. We found ourselves in Kailua and drove around a bit to find someplace to eat. We both realized that we hadn't enjoyed Mexican food for a while, so we decided to try Mexico Lindo. Rolled up right around noon, and crossed fingers that we would just get seated, and sure enough we were told to "seat your self". After bringing some water, the waiter asked if we wanted anything to drink, and of course I want a house margarita on the rocks and hubs had an iced tea. It didn't take long to see the queso on the menu, so we ordered some chips and salsa and the queso with chorizo on the side. My drink came and they were not light on the pour! The glass is like the size of a miniature fish bowl, and the flavors were on point. The sizzling cheese came out and a decent side of chorizo was next to it. ( I asked for the chorizo on the side). The cheese pull on this puppy was a 10 out of 10 and the edges were nice and crispy. There is nothing like a crispy ooey gooey cheese paired with chorizo and tapatio. I was in queso heaven. I ordered the appetizer quesadillas and hubs ordered the pork tamale. Had I known how fabulous the queso was, I might've just stopped there, but the beef quesadilla were filled with so much meat and cheese, one would've been perfect for me. Hubs was impressed with his tamale, as the pork was all the way through the masa and felt like it was homemade. The service was great especially during the lunch rush, our water was topped off, and the food was really good. I asked our server if they are affiliated with Mexico in Kalihi, and he said that it was the same owners. I told him, same owners, maybe, but I enjoyed this meal a bit more than the other restaurant. My husband and I were here on a Saturday Early afternoon. We were the only people in the indoor dining area. We felt rushed. Our waters were set on the other side of the table. We had to stand up to reach them. I was given to go boxes when I had a plate full of food. We were given the check before we were done eating. When we ordered fried ice cream we were told, 'no worries' as if we should apologize for not being done. My husband's enchiladas were ok. My fajitas were excellent. In the past this was sooooo on point and delicious. I wanted to have hot peppers in the menudo but the waitress said they can't do that and said she'll give extra pepper flakes. When the order got delivered to the table it was cold. Seems like it was sitting for a while on the pass. The other dish ordered was ok and nothing to tell Mama about. I was excited. I got home and busted that baby open immediately. I think I may have gotten a few days old, bottom of the cauldron, menudo. The tripe was grey. Not white or creame, but grey and dark. My $30 "lobster chimichanga" was primarily a refried bean chimichanga with a few small pieces of lobster or something that looked seafoody, but I tasted no lobster, and while somewhat tasty overall since I do like refried beans this was something I coulda whipped up at home for a a few bucks. Quite disappointing, this place has regressed so much. Prices higher and quality lower, not a great combination. We will come back at some point, since we live in Kailua and get occasional hankering for a sit-down Mexican food meal. Hope better next time but not optimistic. Being a mexicana from the mainland, someone that cooks for my husband daily and the granddaughter of a Champion menudo cook, Mexico Lindo is by far THE BEST Mexican restaurant bar none that I have eaten at! I consider myself a menudo snob for obvious reasons and was skeptical of their menudo until my first taste. Their menudo, dare I say, is equal to if not better than my grandma's! It was so good that it brought me to tears remembering her. I have never eaten a meal that has stirred up so many emotions, but this was it! It's been awhile since I have eaten here. My boyfriend wanted to spoil me today. We were the only ones in the restaurant around 10:30 or 11 am. We were hungry. I couldn't finish my dish but I ended up having the lobster enchiladas which came with rice and beans. I also ordered a lychee margarita which was a little bit sour. Tasted like a hard lemonade. We also decided to get chips and salsa. The green sauce was the best and tasted delicious. My boyfriend got the shrimp dish and he let me try his shrimp. Really good. I've been going to Lindo's for over 12 years. #2 Combo plate with grilled chicken(+$3) was below $13+$3. Since covid, its more than doubled and I can no longer get grilled chicken for $3 more changed to other plates. This was my go to dish. I can no longer get my favorite dish at the only decent Mexican restaurant in Kailua. I would've paid $5 more for grilled chicken. Sorry Mexico Lindo, you've dropped the ball on customer service. Food may still be good but not what I prefer when it comes to boiled or grilled Chicken. Sorry old friend but as the times have changed and price increase, so have my preferences. I do understand you no longer offer grilled chicken on a lot of your plates and just a few options to change to grilled chicken. Thanks again Mexico Lindo for our great times. read more
