I like dr. Rasmussen a lot. She's very straightforward and takes the time to answer your questions and alleviate your fears. I always get a big hug on the way out. My previous doctor, Tiare Salassa, move to Moanalua but she was equally as nice. I have no trouble at all with this orthopedic office, appointments are timely set and I'm seen within a reasonable amount of time. read more

If you need a orthopedist, go elsewhere. Dr. Keller is the rudest doctor I have ever met in my entire life. He has no "bed side manner" and no genuine concern or interest in patients. He spent all of 3 minutes with me, did not review MRI results with me, and did not address the reason I was referred there. When I asked to see a different doctor in the practice for my referral, I was informed I could go elsewhere if I chose not to meet with him. Go to a different practice. I am in Kailua on the Marine base helping my son care for his 2 year old daughter. I have a history of a trigger finger and have received injections in both thumbs about 10 years ago in my hometown of Charleston SC. My thumb has been aching for the last 2 months and I looked up hand specialists in Kailua and Honolulu. I called Windward Orthopedic group this past Friday and spoke with Jennifer who was so helpful. She was able to get an appointment for me today the following Monday with their hand specialist Dr. Robert Medoff. I don't usually leave reviews but I was so impressed with this whole group starting with Jennifer. When I went this morning I arrived a little early to fill out paper work. The office was crowded and I imagined it would be the usual kind of wait in the waiting room to then wait in the back to see the nurse and then the doctor. As soon as I finished my paperwork they were calling me to the back. The nurse asked me to sit in a room on the left and the doctor would be with me shortly. How many times have we all heard that! I was pleasantly surprised that Dr. Robert Medoff came in the room a few minutes later. He was so kind and knowledgeable. He prepared me for the injection and had me lay down which was helpful as this injection hurts. He was much more professional and aseptic then I had in my home town and I was afraid to come to a small town group. He sprayed a topical and then injected my thumb. It hurt much less then the times I had the injections before. He even placed the band aid on there himself. I was so impressed with this group from top to bottom. I could not recommend them highly enough and I thank them for taking such good care of me today. read more

Terrible. No communication while waiting, wondering when I'm going to be seen. Already waiting 40 minutes. And terrible at making appointments with the staff and getting back to me. I would have given them No Stars but didn't have the choice... Diagnosed in ER w/a fractured ankle & elbow, both placed in splints & advised to see an Orthopedist. Called here for an appt, left 2 messages with no calls back. Called a third time & it took the receptionist 9 mins. to set me up an appt. for 3 days later :( Finally went in & saw a Dr. Sara Sakamoto who took all the splints off; seemed more worried about my foot (which felt a whole lot better) than my arm that I kept complaining about the pain. My arm was bruised & swollen, & so sore to move. She advised me to do an exercise for my arm to stretch the muscles. Called back a few days later because the pain was just as bad as the day I got hurt. No calls back. I went to see a different Dr at a different office who advised me that he wouldn't have taken the splints off for at least 3 weeks because the areas that got hurt needs time to rest & heal. He told me to stop doing the exercise Dr Sakamoto recommended because it's causing more harm than good. He then prescribed me an anti-inflammatory to cut down on the swelling & told me to keep my arm in a sling & to let my arm rest so it can heal. It's been 2 days now, the swelling is down, the bruises are disappearing & my arm feels a whole lot better. Sorry Windward Orthopedic but you'll never see my face or name come across your office again. Dr Sakamoto has to learn a lot more patient interaction because the patient is the one who's feeling the pain. read more

I had a hip replacement one year ago at Castle Hospital performed by Dr. Linda Rasmussen. I have been totally pleased with the outcome of the procedure. I was made to feel comfortable with a procedure that absolutely frightened the hell out of me. Her bedside manner was the best and so very reasurring. I've also had a knee replacement some six years ago, and all is well with that too. Yes , it's taken a year to do this review, but I wanted to be able to report, it's not temporary fix. This review is concerned with Dr. Rasmussen. If you have an orthopedic issue, try to schedule with another provider, if possible. My first appointment with her was at the end of September 2017, for a diagnosed but as-of-yet untreated (due to a MTF) medial meniscal tear that had occurred in February 2017. I was impatient from many months of being unable to secure a referral to an orthopedist at the military hospital, so I called this clinic expecting an appointment with Dr. Keller, but she had an opening sooner. At my first appointment, I waited for over 2 hours to be seen for all of 5 minutes. She took a look at MRIs I had done in June, and took "measurements" by eyeballing my leg. My question about recovery time was answered with "most of my patients are walking normally within a few days, and do not need physical therapy but I don't have a crystal ball" which I deemed fair, because every patient is different. Bedside manner is not her strong suit. She offered no additional information except to exercise my inner thigh. Fast forward to the day of my surgery...I came out of it with a diagnosis of arthritis, medial meniscus tear, and lateral meniscus tear. The first couple of days were okay since I was using a prescribed narcotic for pain relief, but I was unable to weight bear for the entire week leading up to my post-op with Dr. Rasmussen which was scheduled exactly a week from the surgery. At my post-op she seemed entirely surprised that I was still using crutches and once again eyeballed the measurements for bending. She forced my knee past the level I was comfortable with and asked me to do the leg lift exercise she had told me to do pre-op. I showed her that I didn't have enough muscle control to do so, so she jerked my leg around instead. My husband and I had many questions for her. The responses we got were "This isn't anything I did" and "Well, I don't have a crystal ball". We got no professional answers from this woman. My husband helped me out of the building and we made the decision not to come back. When I got my bill, I realized that I could log in to the patient portal and see my chart as well. Dr. Rasmussen put false information in my files in regards to my post op appointment...while I complained of pain only controlled when lying down with the use of current medications, but unbearable with trying to weight bear, she input that my pain was well controlled. While I am still at 7 weeks post op unable to fully extend my leg, she input that my extension was 0. I am just now able to bend my knee to 90 degrees, and she input that at my post op it was already 90. I wont pretend to know the exact degree of flexion, but it was not that, and whatever it did truly measure out to be was by her forcing it past what I could comfortably handle. She also added that my muscle strength, bulk, and tone were all normal, even though she didn't examine my muscles... I am at 7 weeks post-op, doing 3x a week PT, with a weak left leg. Still in pain and unable to do those leg lifts she prescribed at post-op, and looking to be in therapy for the better part of 2018. read more

I went to see Dr Keller for a check up on a procedure I had done over 10 years ago on my leg. Not only was he running late, but he seemed rushed during the entire 15 minutes max he was with me. He is not very personable and does not have the best bedside manner. What bothered me the most was that he never gave me time to ask him questions. He simply ordered MRI's and a referral during my second appointment, walked out of the room and never came back. "Good bye, take care, etc." was never said by Dr. Keller. This was my experience during 2 separate appointments. It is important for doctors appointments to have a clear beginning, middle and end. Clearly identifying next steps is a must with someone with an injury like the one I saw him for. For the amount his office billed my insurance, I expect a lot more. read more

My Mother initially saw Dr. Medoff when she broke her wrist visiting me on vacation. Not only did he have terrible bed side manners, but he could not resist pressuring her into surgery over and over. We decided to wait and get a second opinion and saw Dr. Sakamoto. She was very pleasant with a great demeanor. She absolutely said no to surgery and that it was unnecessary as her fracture was straight forward and healing well. What a scary discrepancy in medical opinion. One year later, and Mom's hand fracture healed perfectly. read more

I'm appalled by all the negative reviews for this clinic. My children have seen both Dr. Sakamoto and Dr. Keller. I grasp where some ppl are coming from with regards to Dr. Keller's character but I rcv it as him taking his job serious & as a sports surgeon, he has a lot of liability. We went there unhappy with the fact that Dr wasn't going to clear my son back to football. I'm sure he gets this a lot, however, it was the right choice. My son had to repair his meniscus and ACL. It was shredded but he was able to repair my son's meniscus and save my son's ACL without having to do a second surgery or any kind of artificial replacement. He really knows his s**t! My son healed & recovered amazingly quick and was back playing football sooner than we knew it. My teenage son respects and appreciates Dr. Keller. He is quick, to the point, confident & competent. This trumps his "mien". He's really great! Dr. Sakamoto is gentle, kind and very thorough. The front desk, all the MAs, techs are all great as well. Fortunately for us, the wait time has always been very minimal. My family is happy with this ortho group. I highly recommend them when in need of competent ortho surgeons. I have no complaints. I was highly referred to Dr. Keller by my UCLA Doctor in Manhattan Beach. I was looking forward to getting my shoulder repaired and getting back into the water. While Dr Keller gave me the PT referral I needed and all is well, dealing with his office is a nightmare! Insurance issues made them require me to pay for the full appointment ($219.90) up front. No problem. I can deal with the inconvenience. I knew it would be resolved. For some reason, the front desk could not believe I was willing to do so and treated me as if I was some swindler lying about insurance. Maybe there are a lot of deadbeats in Kailua? I don't know.... Note, this was January 2018. In February, my claim was FINALLY submitted to insurance and the office manager, Jennifer, asked me to call back on March 22nd to follow up. 9 phone calls later, I have found Jennifer NEVER answers her phone so I leave detailed messages to check status. All I get is a random call back while I am at work and a message stating "This is Jennifer from.....please call me back at...". So here we are in December of 2018, 11 months later. Still no refund though their office confirmed a refund of $201.55 is due me. They gave my friend Jennifer a message for me (LOL). Then they had the audacity to let me know Jennifer should have a check mailed out to me by year end! Really?????? In what world would this be acceptable? Why can't she DO HER JOB? Wish I could charge them interest for using my money for a year! Definitely will not be recommending this office! Too bad, Dr. Keller was fairly decent. After years of shots for the knees I gave Dr Linda Rasmussen the green light to do the replacements. She and the staff at Castle Hospital were were terrific in their job. The surgeries were seven weeks apart due to my personal scheduling requirements. Medicare was alleged to be an impossible provider to get Post-Surgery, In Patient authorization for a week at a Rehab Hospital. The Team of Dr Rasmussen, Jane Raymond at Castle Hospital and Dr Jason Chang at Rehab Hospital of the Pacific [REHOP] were steadfast in getting me the In-Patient, Post-Surgery care for each knee. I then went to Castle for continued Out-Patient Physical Therapy with Jeni Horner for a few weeks, also a great experience. Im a Plumber of 20+ years. Recently in the past year or so, I have developed a rather painful condition in my right elbow due to an injury while lifting a larger wrench. When it got bad enough, I finally went in to see someone here at Windward Ortho and before doing anything else or putting me into therapy or anything, I was given my first shot... After that one wore off I went back in a second time. This time I was informed that my Dr had left.... I waited two weeks for an appointment with the new Dr., taking a day off of work, not only did I sit in the waiting room forever, but by the time the Dr came into the exam room she was an hour later than my appointment time.... Although apologetic, I expressed my dissatisfaction in her tardiness and of the first visit and how the first doctor just wanted to give me shots. After hearing all that she just wanted to give me a shot as well.... I had to basically beg for an X Ray and when I mentioned "MRI" i was told not now, a second time..... Well, here we are after this second shot, which only lasted about a week this time, and my arm continues to feel worse and worse. I wear a brace all day everyday, even while sleeping. So, instead of putting myself thru the sure disappointment of going back to this office and dealing with them again, I decided to go see a different Dr. I was asked by new Dr to bring copy of X Ray on CD to appointment. I called Windward Ortho and made the request for the copy on disc and was told the X Ray tech would contact me when it was ready. 24 hours go by so I call again, "hey, my appointment is Monday and its now Friday, I need that disc for my appointment". As others have mentioned in comments here, the receptionist tried giving me a hard time and saying that it usually takes longer to do this, and we are very busy, and blah blah blah. I asked here how long it usually takes and she told me "one week". One week for you to burn 3 files onto a CDR for me to take to another Dr because I cant get quality care from you? Absolutely ridiculous. The only thing I didn't do is cuss her out. Just give me my X Rays so I can be done with you Windward Ortho..... Overall, I felt rushed thru the office visits with minimal time spent actually trying to diagnose the issue or figuring out a plan of action for anything beyond shots. Terrible customer service office staff... Dr. was nice in both instances but yeah, receptionist is a trip. read more

Over the past two years I have acquired a new hip and a new knee, both the handiwork of Dr. Linda Rasmussen. She is ridiculously busy, it seems to me, but when you are good at what you do, the customers line up. In addition to her skill and positive outlook, the office and clinical staff have been extremely supportive of me, and cheerfully so. I chose Dr. Rasmussen on the recommendations of several neighbors who enthusiastically reported their satisfaction with Dr. R. and her office and Castle Hospital staff. read more

I moved here from the mainland. The week before I moved here my knee collapsed. My doctor at home could not do anything before I was flying out. I had been told I had a torn meniscus that could no longer be conservatively handled and that I needed surgery. I knew people at church in Kaneohe and asked them who they would recommend that I see. Everyone who knew anything about knees and surgery recommended Dr. Rasmussen. I did have to wait to get an appointment and I also had to wait a bit at the office, but when she saw me, she took time to look at the MRI, to explain to me what she saw there and how she could help. She recommended surgery and got me in fairly quickly. After surgery she told me it was more complicated than she expected because when she got in there were loose pieces of cartilage in the knee as well as frayed edges of the cartilage and the surgery took longer than expected. At the follow up visit I told her I was going to start water aerobics. She told me if I did that I would probably not require further therapy. My knee has healed very well. She was very thorough, very personable, took the time to answer my questions, never made me feel rushed or that anything that I asked was stupid. My only regret is that I failed to request an epidural or some other local anesthesia as I have a terrible reaction to general anesthesia and didn't really feel it left my system for over a month. Dr. Rasmussen is an excellent doctor. She was carrying a very heavy load as the office was short at least one doctor when I saw her. read more

I went to Dr Rasmussen for knee pain (pain that I was trying to diagnose and treat on my own for weeks). I don't go to doctors unless its an emergency usually but my wife made the appointment for me and I am so glad we met Dr Rasmussen. She did a thorough physical exam of my knee and diagnosed the torn meniscus, without hesitation I trusted her and scheduled my surgery. After doing exactly as prescribed (rest, leg up and iced, etc) I have no pain in my knee, its been 2 weeks and I'm so happy with the surgery and specifically with Dr Rasmussen, she is not like doctors I've experienced who seem to have their heads down, watching a clock to move to the next patient. She is professional, thorough and clear with the entire diagnosis, healing process and what my responsibilities were to succeed. read more

I have two artificial hips thanks to Dr. Linda Rasmussen! I got the first one four years ago and the second/other side, three months ago. I never had a problem with her, her staff or Castle Hospital (Adventist). They are all great and I highly recommend Dr. Rasmussen and everyone involved. My first hip seemed to heal faster than the second, but I did see slight improvement every day in my second recovery. It's hard to believe both my hips are artificial. I have no pain and my related lower back pain cleared up both times after I got each new hip since the bad hips maybe were not even (horizontally), so my lower back was trying to compensate four years ago, and again five months ago. I did not use the toilet seat riser in both cases to keep my hips higher than my knees. In the shower, I placed old crutches in the bathtub, one at each end of the tub, up against the walls in the corner so they would not move, so in case I slipped in the shower, I could grab onto a crutch that would not move, since we don't have safety handles on the walls to grab on to.
