If you are looking for a wonderful place to learn to sail - this is where you want to go. My wife and I took the ASA 101 class and I can say for certain that all of our expectations were completely exceeded, we were blown away by how accommodating, professional, and friendly the staff at WS were. Our teacher, Capt. Tracy was very experienced but the best part was how patient and helpful he was to people totally new to sailing. He had the patience to answer the same question multiple times just as well as the first time. He demonstrated the same knots to us over and over again and was always looking for a way to help us to grasp material that we struggled with. Normally in ASA 101 classes you spend the first part of the day in a classroom learning some new terms and the parts of a boat that will be important when you start sailing. Cpt. Tracy started out lessons right on the boat so we could see, and even handle the equipment as we were learning it. He made sure that everything was as hands-on as possible. (Note: the on-the-boat start may have been due to the amazing weather we had in March 2018, had it been a hot, Texas summer we may not have wanted to start on the boat). Capt. Tracy was also a very great resource for the local area, during some down time while getting out of the harbor we were able to get some incredibly valuable information about local restaurants (like which ones were highly rated on websites but weren't actually that great and avoided by the locals) so take advantage of their local knowledge while you are at it! Darrel (sorry if I spelled that wrong) in the office was extremely helpful and accommodating to us. Normally their classes are on the weekends but because we were there on spring break we needed to get our classes done during the week. He was able to work completely around our schedule and get us class times that fit exactly what we needed. I can't recommend this business more and I feel like my review doesn't do them justice at all. We live in Iowa, but will definitely be back to Kemah, TX as we prepare for the next steps in our sailing education. In the spring (and fall, I imagine) you need to remember that even if it's warm in the marina, the wind can be chilly after you get out into more open water (even for midwesterners!) so dress in layers during those times - summer would be completely different with the heat. For the ASA 101 class you can anticipate 2 fairly full days from about 8 or 9 AM to about 4PM. read more

Excellent experiance. Exceptional Captain Instructor. I am an experianced sailor but need to get ASA certs to bareboat charter. The yacht we trained on was excellent. Clean, very well maintained, spaciouse and had a full bimini, for me an essential with our texas heat and sun. I have nothing bad to say about these folks. I took the option to stay the night. The boat we were training on, Beneteau Oceanas 311 is a great boat but the folks there decided I would be more comfortable staying on one of their Hunter e36 yachts. It was VERY comfortable and beautifully clean. Thank you Darrel for that extra care you showed there. I would highly recommend Windward SeaVenture to anyone, new sailor, experianced sailor wanting more education and/or sea time. Signed up for the ASA 103/104 combo class online and had selected Windward based off reviews and it being local to me. My first impression when I parked my car was the marina was extremely well kept and their boats in great shape! This is not a Mickey Mouse operation! I was walking the dock towards what would be our boat when I ran into Murat, our instructor for the weekend. He was friendly and very professional. The rest of the students arrived and we went to work on planning and provisioning for our weekend. Shoved off around 1PM and Murat kept us on point and easily related the course material to the situation at hand. Overall, it was an amazing weekend! As a testament to Murat's skill, everyone in the class (4 of us) passed both tests without a problem. My wife and I just completed the ASA 101 course where we learned to sail a basic sloop. Captain Ron was a terrific teacher. He was patient, encouraging, competent and fun. I honestly didn't expect to learn and experience as much as we learned in such a short period of time. We saw other sailing schools giving lessons on much smaller boats without protection from the sun. Our boat was 31' and had a bimini top which is essential in my opinion when sailing in the Texas heat. Just a fantastic experience which I highly recommend. We're really looking forward to the 103 & 104 class in just over a month to continue our goal to become competent sailors. read more

Great boat, great instructor, great materials. They realize its like learning from a fire hose, but you get hands on experience and the basics to go out sailing with experienced sailors afterwards and you will have the background to take the mystery out of sailing. I look forward to getting more experience and then taking more courses with Windward SeaVenture. Read the book ahead of time and don't stress about the test - with hands on lessons and the instructor giving you the helm and constantly reminding you of things to know over the hours, it all comes together. I can't recommend Windward SeaVenture enough. We took the ASA 101 class and it was great. We could not have asked for a better instructor than John K. He made sure everyone got practice in every area we covered and was very patient with all of us. If anyone had any trouble with an area he made sure that they got to practice that area again until they had it down. We will are planning on taking the 103 & 104 class and it will for sure be with Windward. We chose Sea Ventures because of the size of boat used for training and the fact it had a wheel and not a tiller. Doug Lance was our instructor of record and was fantastic! Took ASA 101 under Alan Taylor. Total 3 students including myself went out on The Impatience. I didn't read the entire ASA 101 book before the class, but Alan definitely helped make sure I knew all my stuff for the exam as well as get the relevant skill on the water. We booked a few months back for the 101 sailing class our instructor was very patient and answered all the questions we have no matter how many times he had to re answer the same question :) we went over maneuvers how ever many times it took for us to understand and be able to do them. Fantastic ASA 101 course. This is the second time I've taken this course from Windward (first time was pre-Ike and I didn't get to do much sailing afterwards). Our Captain was beyond awesome. I searched for a long time to find an affordable sailing school and this one didn't disappoint! We took the ASA 101 class and had a great time. The instructor was very patient and even welhen we went out on the bay in less then perfect conditions he never got flustered and stayed calm while the rest of us were freaking out a little. This is hands down the best place to charter a boat in Kemah. I did my ASA 101 class here and have been back to charter several times. The owners are friendly and are happy to explain or review anything you need. The boats are always clean and always ready to go. Great place for lessons to start your sailing adventures. John was a great instructor and I'm guessing they ordered up some perfect weather for our time out on Trinity Bay. We got to step on board a few different boats and get a feel for the size and sailed a 31 footer to learn the lines. All the practical instruction made the ASA 101 test a breeze. read more

We took ASA 101 Basic Keelboat last weekend which served as a great refresher on certain sailing terminology and techniques as well as providing new information and skills to practice. I did the introduction course ASA 101 at Windward Sea Venture. The course was very instructive and had a good atmosphere. Windward are using bigger boats on the ASA 101 than most of the other schools in the area, which is more relevant for me.
