Rather than rushing to the pricey option, Dr. Henderson did repeated tests and exams and made an informed and humane decision. My pup is quite healthy now and the surgery was obviously unnecessary. Dr. Henderson also explains the issues, including drawing diagrams, so that I can completely understand the situation and the options. When my pup has been sick her staff has called me to check up on her. After ER visits elsewhere, the staff calls to check up on my her. It's a very sweet gesture and has always been appreciated. This vet isn't handing out hugs to distraught pet owners, but that's not what I was looking for in a vet. I was looking for someone who is informed and experienced. I found it here.

Do not see Dr. Henderson if you care about your pet…read more Our cat Milo was having seizures suddenly over the last 12 hours so we decided to take him to the vet. He was an overweight cat and the cause of the seizures was not diagnosed. After simply taking blood work and giving less than 20 min of an IV fluid, they stuffed him back in the cage and sent us on our way with a prescription for phenobarbital. No instructions other than how to give the cat the medicine, no goodbye, no thank you, and no advice on what to do if the seizures persisted. We administered the half a pill like we were told to do and he had another seizure 10 minutes later. We called the office to get advice and they basically said nothing. We left Milo to go get some yogurt to help him with his dosages for about 3 hours and when we got back he was dead on the floor under the bed. When we called back and told them our cat died they were completely unsympathetic, indifferent, and when Dr. H finally called back, said she "had never seen anything like this in 40 years. Why didn't they keep him until the blood work was complete, or load him with a higher dosage of the medication because he was a larger cat to prevent the seizures before they became fatal?! He was only 2 years old and if they were more specific about how much of a dosage we should have given him initially to get his treatment under way, or if they had given him some medication and enough of it to match his weight before we left the clinic, milo would still be with us today... TLDR: Dr Henderson doesn't care about your animals and if they die, Too bad, she doesn't know why and didn't care anyway. 40 years of veterinary practice for nothing!

Upon check-in, they were able to see Artichoke within two minutes of us getting there. They did his vitals in back and then moved my boyfriend and I from the waiting area/lobby to a separate room where the vet could speak with us. The vet was kind when speaking with us, and even when discussing the potential worst outcomes of what needed to happen, she spoke calmly which definitely helped us both with our nerves. The clinic offered a few different options of how they could remove the item and what payments would look like. They also offer payment plans for those who may need one. In total, we arrived around 10:40P and were out by midnight. Pretty quick turn around and honestly, the price wasn't that bad either. Our cat was a little stubborn so they had to double dose him with the steroid to induce his vomiting, but even with that and the walk-in emergency vet fee, it was all under $300. While I hope that we will never need to come back here, they will always be my first call should we need it!

He dropped to the floor, became paralyzed in the back end and was crying out in pain. It was close to opening time so we were able to get him to SFVH immediately. Upon our arrival we had to wait as he was crying out in pain. We stayed calm and waited until Dr. Broady finished up with a client. We should have been taken right in. Everyone heard our cat crying. He was in a lot of pain. We had gotten the diagnosis he had a stroke. Dr. Broady kept talking to us as our cat was still crying out in pain and then he started panting and the vet tech had to say "Doc what are we going to do for Axl." Like let's get going! He needed to see a Cardiologist so about a week or so later he saw one at SFVH. We were told we'd get to speak with the Cardiologist. That never happened. I had also asked if I could be with our cat as I was worried he'd be scared without me being with him after all he'd been through. I was told no as it was a small room and there wasn't enough room for another person. I was told we would be sent the report by Thursday. It was a bit hectic there and I had questions but I figured I'd ask at a later time. Two days later I received a call in the morning from Dr. Broady asking how Axl was and then he proceeded to tell me that wasn't the reason why he was calling and he started yelling at me and questioning me about something I had nothing to do with and had no knowledge of! After he had his tantrum he hung up on me! I had not received Axl's echo report so on Sunday the 29th I sent an email asking for the report if they had it and I asked some other questions I had regarding Axl's care. On Monday, just before closing I received the report with a letter from Dr. Broady that due to my interactions and behavior with his staff over the last few weeks he would no longer be treating our cats. WHAT?! I asked for specifics as to what he was referring to because I had no clue what caused him to say that. I never got an answer. He left us hanging with a cat that has CHF and a report we don't understand and have questions that never did get answered and more questions after seeing the report. What kind of vet acts like he did and leaves a client with a cat that has CHF hanging with no medical care? He should be ashamed of himself! After this all took place I got to thinking about things. There has never been more dental cleanings and extractions done with our cats since we started going there. Were they really necessary? I'm beginning to think not! Also, how can there be one vet and you're open only four days a week from 8-5 take on new clients all the time or take in "emergencies" from a non client? Perhaps he is loosing patients? Either they leave due to his attitude or he drops them at will when he gets a bug up his butt! Beware of this so called vet with his Jekyll and Hyde attitude. And yes, a complaint has been sent to the MA state licensing board regarding his actions.

tl;dr - They were…read morefrequently telling me inconsistent things, and when they made mistakes, they didn't apologize, let alone acknowledge those mistakes - they were assholes. ** I'm new to the area and called about boarding my small dog while I headed to a silent meditation course. The first reception person I spoke to (whose name I didn't get) was nice. She told me the dates I needed would work, and that all I had to do was drop off a fecal sample. I did that the next morning, to a reception person called Elizabeth. She told me the cost was $30, which had not been mentioned before. It wasn't cool that this (seemingly way too high) fee had not been mentioned, particularly when paying it doesn't confirm booking, and they were not offering a record of these test results. But I needed a place for my pup to stay (and I'd already collected the shit and driven it over), so I paid it. I also sent over vaccination records. Elizabeth left a voicemail to say the fecal test was negative, which was good, but that my dog's Bordetella record was missing. I had thought it was included, but I misremembered what it was called (my dog has a pet passport from Europe which is in Italian). Elizabeth had a habit of replying with the word 'Correct' in this kind of authoritative way, even when the thing in question was not. She did this on our call, and I overheard it in the office when she was speaking to another customer. So I called around a bunch to try and confirm a Bordetella shot, and eventually found a nice vet who could do it. I called Pioneer Valley back to ask if I could confirm the dates for boarding now that the Bordetella shot was scheduled. This time I got Linda, who at least wasn't rude, but the call took forever. She told me Bordetella was there, but distemper was missing. Getting this information took something like 25 minutes. I mentioned a couple times that Elizabeth had told me the opposite the day before, explicitly confirming distemper was there. I knew my dog had had the distemper shot previously, so I confirmed with Linda that they offered it at their facility, and that he could get it and still board there assuming he had had the shot previously (so therefore did not need the booster). Linda told me this was fine. I found the record quickly and sent it over, and someone named Alyssa called back. Alyssa was a dick. She was rude as hell as she told me the vaccine record I had provided wouldn't work (there is definitely a nice, professional way to do this). She made me re-confirm the boarding dates I had requested for something like the 5th time, only to once again tell me they couldn't take him. I told her Linda had confirmed for me that they could do distemper maybe 15 minutes before. Alyssa said they couldn't get him in for this because "they were booked until August, and he would need a full checkup BY LAW." Emphasis hers. There was no apology for their terrible internal communication, and their even worse treatment of me as a customer, and as a human being. I want my $30 back. Don't go to a place like this where they're incompetent and they treat people poorly. There are other super nice, knowledgable vets (Shelburne Falls Vet Hospital is one!) minutes away.
