I usually try to stay in "affiliated" campgrounds whenever possible because they have to maintain a certain level of professionalism and caring for their service. Other times I go on line and try to get reservations in places that show up well in their web sites. This is not always satisfying, as there are many web sites that are much nicer than their actual grounds. This has happened to me a few times as I'm sure it has happened to you if you spend any amount of time traveling, I can say without fear of contradiction that this campground is a "diamond in the rough." It is in a pretty spot and managed by a fellow who absolutely goes out of his way to ensure that this campground and the folks who stay here are more than happy that they came here. Rick is the manager and he is nothing short of OUTSTANDING in the way he does his job. To be perfectly honest, there are not enough stars for me to light up when it comes to rating this campground. If you are fortunate to find yourself rv-ing in this incredibly beautiful part of our country, then try to get a spot here. I am certain that you will be more than pleased.

After living by major highways and the airport in Austin, TX it is a huge deal; 2. It is close to the Chatuge Lake ( it's not on the lake, but it's literally 1.5 miles to the public lake access); 3. They have WiFi; 4. The owners are the sweetest people you have ever met and they make you feel so welcome; 5. It is close to everything you ever wanted to do in this area. 6. The campground itself is super clean and well maintained. By the way, it's under a new ownership so I hear it's night and day from what it was before; 7. Did I say it's quiet and peaceful? Other positives: there is a cute babbling brook where our kids can wade; a fishing pond, where they can catch and release ( but mostly feed ) the fish; they have potlucks every month or so; outdoor games on the lawn; the price for all this is unbelievable ( compared to what we are used to ). There are no real negatives, except there has been bear sightings, but hey, it's the mountains and people really need to start be careful about what they leave outside. Also, please note that it is secluded, so don't be alarmed if your GPS takes you to residential area. Just follow the road to the campground sign. 2016 Update: With new improvements it's even better than last summer.

Long Ridge is a very well run camp ground with wonderful bathrooms and showers. They have spots for tent and electric and water van hook ups so they cater to all manner of camping. And while they advertise two night minimums online, if you call a person they'll let you stay for one night. Our neighbor smoked cigars and had slow R&B music playing till about 9pm and then it was quiet. We able to get a fire started fairly easily at our site. There was a pond with fish in it for catch and release only. No other amenities. The night was quiet and got down to the low 50s and I slept well enough to function the next day. All in all a great time here.

Every site has a picnic bench, fire pit, water hookups, 30 or 50 amp hookups and pretty level gravel parking areas. WiFi is spotty and towards the end of the campground (second loop) it's pretty much non existent. We have a repeater and tethered off our phones which worked well for us. For campers with trailers or RV's there is one dump site for all, none available at individual sites so if you stay for awhile be aware of this. Some folks called a guy who came in and pumped their black water tank for $25. The camp hosts will have information for you if interested. Public restrooms are old, need some TLC but otherwise they're clean. There is a shower with a curtain. Fun hikes/walks just a quick drive away at Jackrabbit Mountain. Beautiful walk from your campsite across the Chatuge Dam. Mornings when the world is waking up and evenings at sunset are my favorite times to wander over. Beautiful place to relax and regroup. We will be back!

WiFi sucks, but the guy who took us to our sight went and got a loaner router from the office and helped hook it up. Office, clubhouse, pool area and facilities were all very nice and new. The pads are concrete are fairly level. The bad Or original site was someone's driveway. There was a tree overgrowing the driveway on the same side I had to back that made it a challenge to get into the sight. Once in the tree dropped crap all over our toad. The view from our right side window was the side of the building who's driveway we had parked in. My awning almost touched the building and there was very little room outside of our door. The WiFi here didn't work, nor did the cable connection for the tv. They did move us at our request to another open sight. So if you're planning on coming here you have to specifically ask if you're going to be in someone's driveway, because they won't offer that information and the site map doesn't show which lots have buildings on them. If you're looking for peace and quite, this is not the place for you. There is ongoing constructing between the heavy equipment clearing the property for more sites, or the constant banging of people repairing or having new permanent units worked on. Overpriced at $70.00 a day plus extra to be on the creek. We found a much nicer, quieter place in Hiawasee for 35.00 a night with riverfront sights at no extra cost. There's a reason for the 30 day cancellation notice. We tried to get out of our second week to go somewhere else, but they wouldn't allow it. Needless to say, we won't be back. Our camper came in contact with the side of our bed and tailgate multiple times. In the end we suffered a hole busted in our front cap from it hitting the side of the truck, we damaged the side of our truck bed and broke every support on our rear ladder. Upon check out we advised of damages and were only met with an "I'm sorry." 10/10 do not recommend if you own a fifth wheel or even a low riding bumper pull.

The noise isn't bad,and they have a quiet time from 10pm-8am, so sleeping is simple. Bathrooms are clean and the campground hosts are very nice. Once even brought local caught, fried trout and "Mexican" corn bread to our campsite one evening. My only complaint is that the website tells you to not bring in any foreign firewood, and that they have some for sale. When we got there, they were out of fire wood and we were told that they were "waiting on the guy" for wood. "Fortunately" he came saving me a trip into town, or so I thought. The wood they delivered to our site, two loads - $50 worth - was so green and wet that I had to run into town to buy fire starter bricks just to get it going. Batoning the wood into kindling and even shaving it into starter pieces proved futile. Even after getting the fire going, it wasn't very warm as it was struggling to burn the wood that smoked and sizzled. That is my only complaint for a lovely site. There are tons of trails and scenery to take in. I highly recommend the campground!

They are also dog friendly and even have a horse friendly camp ground that's a little higher up the mountain. At the horse camp, it's more primitive with no showers and an enclosed port-a potty, but it's still a clean and beautiful wooded area. The camp store is pretty well stocked and they sell firewood. It's a bit expensive, but it saves you a trip down the mountain into town. I've stayed there three times and every other campground I've been to just doesn't seem to compare.
