TLDR: HALAL, yummy and affordable casual dining with a menu focused on Portugese/African chicken!…read moreChicken plates, sandwiches, veg options, and plenty of snacks/desserts! US visitor here trying one of the most popular traditional UK spots! This location is located in a little plaza/retail center. We parked in the Sainsbury's right next to the plaza and walked it. It was a Wednesday night at about 7 PM when we walked in, and we easily got a table for 4! The Nando's menu is extensive with prices between $9-$13. They're known for their Peri Peri sauces (have like 8) and of course...chicken! one of my favorite things about the place is the many veg and vegan options- sweet potato burger, a vegetable/curry rice bowl, vegan sides, etc. I ordered the sunset roll with the salted Peri Peri chips...and YUM! The portion was definitely smaller than something you'd get in the US (think of a large English muffin sandwich) and was filled with delicious grape jelly, warm cheddar, chicken thigh meat, and lettuce. The pero-naiyse sauce that we ordered separately (additional 60 cents) was delicious and a must-have. My favorite famous peri-peri sauce was probably the medium with garlic or the mild lemon pepper! Little tip: if you don't want to pay for peri-naiyse, mix some of the hot sauce with free request mayonnaise. Not the same, but close enough! Next time, I'll have to try the hummus. And yes, this location is zabiha/halal!

Nandos knows chicken and it knows it damn well!…read more Nandos is an institution and has provided many happy spicy chicken-filled hours for the nation. It may not be fancy, but nobody does it quite like they do. The Portuguese peri peri spices have carved out their own place in the pantheon of flavours and I haven't met anyone yet who could refuse peri peri chips from here. Nandos makes chicken in many forms. Chicken legs, chicken wraps, chicken on salad, chicken pita, chicken burgers, you name it. They cater for people at all hot sauce levels from your Lemon and Herb newbies, to Medium, to Extra Hot for those who Can, which is great because I Cannot:P The classic for me is the quarter chicken, which is flame-grilled to yummy juiciness and comes with a delicious plate of crispy on the outside, soft on the inside peri peri chips. I like the peri peri spice on the chips so much I don't need ketchup on them. I have also had the mediterranean salad which has nice olives and quite a generous amount of feta cheese on it. It's pretty good and very generous in size. I have tried a few of the sides here but nothing stood out and the peri peri chips beats them every time. The service here is very friendly and I like that there is a place along the wall of the restaurant for you to wash your peri peri hands afterwards. There is also a place to refill your soda as many times as you wish and you might be thankful for that when you order out of your hotness league! The Brentcross location on the top floor o the mall is convenient for shoppers and you never have to wait too long if there is a line. Nandos is a place i can always count on:)

I wasn't too sure what to expect from Portuguese tapas but what we got was lots of small plates with (as Gregg Wallace from Masterchef would say) big flavours! We went for variety when ordering. Not all the dishes were five stars but there were some definite highlights - for me it was the 24-month-aged St Jorge cow's cheese which did somersaults on my tastebuds, whilst my guy really liked their beef sandwich. We found the runner bean fritter a bit of a waste but both dived for the last mussel which was served in a small tin and beautifully seasoned. The custard tart which you have to reserve a slice of early as they only make one a night, was actually a bit disappointing - I found it a little too gooey for my liking. Every dish feels very thoughtfully prepared, and it was so nice to feel that thought and care extend to the service here, with a lovely welcome from the front of house who made sure we were happy sitting in the front 'outside but inside' area. Our waiter also took very good care of us, happily advising on dishes and in my case the wines too, as I hadn't heard of many of the grape varieties. So the 5th star is for their charm. A good feed if you're in the area with a very relaxed, rustic feel, but be warned the prices stack up quickly with this type of food! I could easily be persuaded to return though, as I already know which dishes I'd ditch and which new ones I'd order next time... ;)

REALLY GOOD. Tucked inside spitalfield market, this Portuguese restaurant makes me think…read moredifferently about Portuguese food for sure. The tins, obviously their signature is a must try. Clams (part of daily special) was so so good. Monkfish and scallops were marinated really well too. They had a fish collar, part of their specials, was cooked to perfection with sides of refreshing salad toppings. Also just perfect. Very good list of wine selection. Their dessert do not disappoint. Didn't try their olive cake (which everyone else got), but their fennel sweet was subtle and light and just ended the meal in the fluffiest and most satisfying way. Overall: REAL good
