Solid selection of spirits & goodies in this shop. The gentleman behind the counter knows his product line well. Prices are (understandably!) a little higher on some items than BevMo, but I love supporting small business and if we want to keep our local communities running well, at this uncertain time, it may cost us more, right? Some idiot who works at that liquor store kicked me out when I went in to buy some scratcher tickets. I scratched them in my car and came back a few times to claim the money I won, and the motherfucker kept kicking me out like I was trying to get something for free. I wasn't asking for anything free, I was just claiming what I won. Then a week later I went back and the son of a bitch had already banned me from the store for good. The owner or older man is a thief, i tried purchasing power ball tickets and he only gave me 5 quick picks for a 20 dollar bill, when i asked where are the rest of my tickets he said since amount is higher the tickets are more expensive. So he stole 10 dollars from me. read more

Just want to say I see the $13.94 charge on my debit card for $11 lottery ticket purchase. Was told only accept cash for lottery but would make exception this time. Don't buy cigars here. Owner changed the prices on me at the register. They also claim to have Cubans, they're fake. Try to sell 3 to me for $125. The cigars he showed me can really get someone sick. I guess if your in the mood to negotiate prices on dusty hard to find products, shop here. Hopefully the label and price are legit. read more

Went here to buy a bottle of wine instead of a large chain store. First about 15 percent more (expected) but when I got home Tried to open the bottle, the cork was bad (came out in mushy pieces) and the wine was bad (vinegar). Obviously stored wrong. $30 gone. The more you dig, the better your chances are in finding a gem! Well, that's exactly what I did when I first spotted The Wine Castle. I actually swung by to pick up some hookah products. I didn't realize they had a little wine cellar with a variety of wines until the third time I went in. It's cute and quaint and the selection is nice. :0) They have a huge selection of micro-beers including "805" by Firestone!! Woot, woot!! ;0) There's also a special "Cigar" room complete with humidifiers for all you OGs stemming back to Al Capone days, and--of course, the selection is vast. I like the Swisher Sweets personally--grape is good. Swing by and give them a little visit. Moses is the greatest guy there! He is a wine, beer and cigar enthusiast who will lead you through the history of each beer and wine he has available. They're super-friendly and informative on all their products. Bought a pack of cigarettes for $13 and charged me $1 for non cash adjustment for a total of $14. The owner didnt even mention this and the funny thing is i came previous week to purchase the same cigarettes and was charged $10.87 from another employee on the same card. I'm conflicted, my first trip was great. The clerk (owner?) was friendly and helpful, and their selection of beer was great. However when I got home I realized that my six pack was past its "best by" date by over a year. I returned the remaining four of the six to the store. I didn't want or expect a refund, but an exchange would be nice. Talking with the clerk it was clear that we had different views when it came to expiration dates of micro brews, and neither was going to be able to sway the other. I'll spare you the details, but we kept it friendly and agreed to disagree. In the end I got what I wanted which was my beer swapped out. I guess that's all that matters, but it definitely dropped this place from a 5 star to 2.5 stars in my eyezs. read more

I've never been here but I drove pretty far out of my way to find they were still closed 20 minutes after they were supposedly open for the day. The location is nice and it seems like they have a good selection but this business obviously suffers from poor ownership based on some of the other reviews I've looked at. read more

I was recently in this store to pick up a nice German Riesling for Thanksgiving family dinner. I was going to go to BevMo for the convenience, but decided to patronize a local independent liquor store. German Rieslings have lost their popularity in recent years with wine drinkers going to Chardonays. Not my style. I was pleasantly surprised on how this store was well stocked, clean, had a helpful staff. I went with a Wente Monterey Rielsling because i always enjoyed their German 'whites'. I did tell the counter clerk that their internet entries for this store's address were way off. (In fact 6 yrs, OFF) And that service needed to be updated, because the only reason I found the store was that I accidentally needed to buy at the Dollar Store that was next door and I found them by chance. The selection was epic and the prices were more competitive ( 15% less) with BevMo. And Wine Castle's staff was very very helpful. I will be back. read more

I went in here to buy some cigarettes while I waited for my wife. She showed up 5 minutes later, and we went back in to check out the liquor, we were maybe gonna buy some. When we saw his insanely high prices we decided to go nextdoor to Winco which is way cheaper. On my way out Moses accuses me of stealing. Hey dude why would I buy cigarettes then come right back in and steal? By the way buddy I was a regular customer and you insulted me. How dare you accuse me of shoplifting after all the money ive spent there on cigarettes! I will buy them elsewhere. Do yourself a favor and stay far away. I NEED to update my review. Something I didn't know had happened during my wife's experience. In the process of the FLEECING, he actually removed the price tag of the bottle so she couldn't see the actual price. I didn't know that until just now. She went in today to talk to the thief, and he offered some BS shots of alcohol. Everyone needs to understand, that money isn't the end of the world. It's all about integrity, which apparently he doesn't have. Pathetic. If you want to do business with people like that, go for it. I'm sure they have great selections. But stiffing customers shouldn't be part of the process. And removing the tag BEFORE my wife could see it to conceal the price, unbelievable. Don't let the name fool you, this place has an excellent selection of tasty beers, in addition to a good wine and liquor selection. I found some of my favorite beers from near and far, including Dogfish Head (5 varieties), and Green Flash (3 or 4 varieties), among others. This place has probably the best selection of beers in Ventura. And, the guy behind the counter was friendly and seemed to know his stuff. A hidden gem. read more

I like beer, but I love wine. With a name like Wine Castle, you know I had to go in. I went to the back of the store (tanslation: the fancy section) and was blown away by the wineries and vintages represented there. I found a '10 and an '08 Artesa that I just had to have. The owner's son is helpful, if a little verbose, but I really appreciate his knowledge about their inventory and willingness to chat. I was truly amazed they carry Tablas Creek, a fine, small winery in Paso Robles, and they store their wines on the side, the proper way. Prices are reasonable for wine. I can't speak to the prices for other products since I've only bought wine there. I highly recommend Wine Castle if you are looking to purchase a unique bottle of wine or for a special occasion. read more

Even though the store has "Wine" in the name, this place is probably your best bet for craft beer in Ventura. The side and rear wall coolers are stacked with a healthy selection of Stone, Lagunitas, Oskar Blues, Firestone, Ballast Point, and almost every other craft brewer on the western seaboard. The owners go out of their way to try to land distribution from breweries you don't normally find in the Ventura area. I'm almost certain that Wine Castle is the only place you can pick up bottles from Anchorage Brewing or Great Divide (get the Love Buzz and Yeti when you go in--they're two of my personal favorites). I was even able to find some bottles of the 2012 release of Deschutes The Abyss, which is extremely hard to find in California. Prices are reasonable and the owners are very friendly and helpful. They always seem willing to talk about beer and guide in the right direction when you need it. read more

I always go out of my way to avoid the corporate spots like Bevmo even if I have to pay a little bit more. I enjoyed supporting this spot but the older guy who works there is such a damn pervert I will never shop their again. This guy hits on my girlfriend so much its beyond just laughing off. It's just ridiculous and unprofessional. Comments like "Oh if I was your boyfriend I wouldn't want something to knock me out. I would want something to keep me up". Or "Man, I say tonight is all about her" My gf will never stop in there to pick something up for me again because you creeped her out so much. You're gross guy. Every single time it's googly eyes and a suggestive comment. I can brush it off once or twice but when do you take responsibility for yourself. Keep the inner dialogue to yourself. Me, my gf, my brother, his wife and at least a few of our friends will never shop there again. Get a grip on your hormones for the sake of you business. read more
