    Jewish Ceremony
    Neomi S.

Rabbi Steve was an incredible blessing for us both. He guided us through the wedding process, was communicative and offered strong support for us. Completely professional with the added value of his kindness and care that we needed as an interfaith couple, as an Israeli bride and an Indian groom. The jewish ceremony was right after the Hindu ceremony and he did a beautiful job in welcoming and highlighting both cultures and people during the ceremony. Definitely recommend to work with him!

My husband and I were married in Napa in May 2025, and we were so lucky to have had our ceremony overseen and guided by the wonderful Rabbi Steve! Our journey with him began shortly after we got engaged in summer 2024, and we knew right off the bat that Rabbi Steve would be a perfect fit for us. He took very special care to get to know us, and his light-hearted and jovial demeanor really made us feel at ease. Most importantly, Rabbi Steve fully honored our wishes to honor both of our traditions through an interfaith ceremony (I'm Catholic, and my husband is Jewish). He even went so far as to introduce us to his dear friend, a deacon at a Catholic parish in Sonoma, who went on to be the other half of our officiant team (special shout-out to Deacon Dave from St. Francis!). The ceremony itself was everything we wanted, and it struck the perfect balance of both of our traditions. We feel so blessed that we found Rabbi Steve, and we couldn't recommend his services and guidance more.

Where do we even begin? We found Rabbi Finley via an online search for rabbis in the Napa area. As a mixed faith couple (Jewish and Catholic), we wanted a rabbi that would be understanding and respectful of both religious backgrounds, but also able to maintain the traditions of a Jewish ceremony. After our initial meeting with Rabbi we could tell he was very patient, honest, forthcoming, and warm and respectful of all cultural and spiritual backgrounds. He will limit his services based on what you desire out of the relationship, from very traditional to more liberal / progressive. In our case, we wanted a more hands-on experience with monthly meetings and counseling as we wanted our ceremony to be more traditional and intimate. We discussed various options on how we wanted our ceremony to proceed, Rabbi Finley would provide suggestions on what the more traditional ceremony steps were, and educated us on Jewish rituals and ceremonial traditions and their significance. We had multiple meetings with him leading up to our ceremony and were even invited to some of his congregation's events, which we appreciate and happily attended. We were welcomed with open arms by his congregation in Sonoma, and appreciated building a relationship with the Rabbi and his congregation that we want to continue beyond our ceremony, but note this is not a requirement, we just like him and his congregation that much. On our wedding day, he led our ceremony seamlessly and confidently. We received so many compliments from our guests on how well he officiated our wedding. Everyone from both sides of our families and friends loved how well Rabbi Finley made the ceremony feel traditional, intimate, reverent, and also warm and welcoming to all backgrounds with the perfect amount of humor and mirth. The groom's side is the Jewish side in our case, and all of his relatives agreed it was the best Jewish ceremony they've attended.

Rabbi Finley was a calming force throughout the wedding planning process of our LGBTQ wedding and took real time to get to know us as a couple and integrate that knowledge into a warm and personal ceremony. I am Christian and my husband is Jewish. Rabbi Finley helped us plan a Jewish ceremony that touched the heart of my Christian family.

Rabbi Steve was wonderful to work with. Especially as a couple that was planning a CA wedding from NYC, he made it very easy to work over Zoom and Google Docs as we led up to the wedding. We eventually met him in person in Sonoma ahead of the wedding and it all went very smoothly. We appreciate his organization, kind spirit, and words of wisdom on incorporating the Jewish traditions that were right for us for our ceremony.

Rabbi Steve is terrific. He called back promptly the same day my bride and I reached out to him. He made sure we were not just being impulsive by taking his time to get to know us - and our story. He was extremely accommodating and assuring. Before hanging up, he said, "I'm your rabbi now, so if you need to talk about anything - I'm here." When our turnaround time was too quick for a temple, he offered his home (kitchen & back yard with a brook) for a beautiful ceremony under the chupah. We couldn't possibly have asked for, or dreamed up anything better. We decided he's now our rabbi no matter where we live. Enjoy your visit to Israel and thank you again! Love, Adam & Rose

My family has seen Kol Shofar change over the years from the leadership of Rabbi White to our current Rabbi, Rabbi Derby and now, Rabbi Levy as Co-Rabbi. High Holidays at Kol Shofar hold many cherished memories for me. Todd Silverstein's soulful interpretation of the holiday melodies is a delight to witness. Rabbi Derby's sermon's are always powerful yet accessible. And even though there are many people in attendance, the atmosphere is still warm and familiiar (probably because my mom *always* insists on sitting in the front row, even when we show up late!) There are truly some remarkable teachers here. Fred Cherniss, Rabbi Derby and Yetta Robinson to name a few. I'm not super fond of the Co-Rabbi, Rabbi Levy, but Rabbi Derby is an amazing spiritual leader who more than makes up for Rabbi Levy's shortcomings. If you are synagogue shopping in Southern Marin, I'd definitely recommend you take a look at Kol Shofar. Be advised that Rabbi Derby is on sabbatical for the next 9 mos.

For almost 2 years my mom and I visited the synagogue to get a real Jewish experience and first hand look at what Israel and Jews are going through in a state of war and anti semitism around the world ! As a messianic Jew who has the guts to enter a synagogue and study them , so as to emulate the preserved Jewish strain of knowledge and authentic Jewish thinking on Torah that persist in longevity in Elohim's grace . Although, my mom and myself were officially kickEd out the synagogue , due to what I posted on Facebook about Judaism general belief that Jesus Christ is boiling in animal feces in the second hell called "Tarturus "; and they only believe that Jesus is down their not the fallen watchers . I only addressed this in a general Judaism statement not what this wonderful synagogue actually believes. The Synagogue felt offended that I pointed out a secret belief that I uncovered in research and spoke that truth not any assumption. I never tried to proselytize or speak evil of these amazing people. But it is the order of Yeshua and the Apostle to speak or represent the Gospel in Jewish circles who still preserve the hope of a Messiah , and allow them to decide to banish me or kick me out the synagogue. I truly want to thank them for my Messianic Jewish authentication of Jewish service , Jewish Spirit and a place that I felt love having to be restrained in efforts to preserve distinctions that will be removed soon by the Messiah. I respect their wishes for the sake of Yeshua my Messiah and the authenticity of His Branch Order of Grafted Israel from elected Jew and Elected Gentile as One House.
