Do NOT .. I repeat Do NOT take your pet to get their nails cut by MARI! She not only cut my dog's nails too short on one foot but on both feet! Then she calls us saying "I don't know what to do, the bleeding won't stop, are you going to take them to the vet?" When asked about the series of events, she said she placed a powder to help stop the bleeding but my dog kept licking it. First of all why would anyone allow a dog to lick that powder? Then when asked if she put a cone to prevent the licking, she stuttered, "no". Yet, she said she's professional and not a bad groomer. Clearly her actions say otherwise! It's one thing to accidentally cut one nail too short but to continue to do it to the others nails is utterly irresponsible and negligent! read more

Small feed store in Vallejo. They have some live birds, a large selection of products for pets (including vaccines) and obviously more feed store oriented items. They have a website that looks a little dated but it is up to date and accurate. Their selection of products really is quite large and better than the big box stores. For example they had a couple different dental water additives for dogs that I've never seen at Petco or Petsmart. Lots and lots of different types of dog food. I like that they have vaccines available. They include a pamphlet you can use for a vaccine records. The cashiers have always been helpful and offered an ice pack for the vaccines. They host the VIP Pet Care mobile clinics on Sundays. The parking lot is on the smaller side so I imagine that can be busy. There are also ads by the front door. Usually it's for puppies or rescues etc. I met a staff member at the Benicia dog festival. He was very knowledgeable and told me they recently acquired Mugsy's the boutique pet bakery/shop near downtown. Good selection of items in the area and friendly service. There's a good chance I'll be back a couple times a year if I'm in the area especially since the Vallejo Petco is often not well stocked. read more

Took my little guy here to be pampered as it was much needed. My Yorkie is unbelievably timid and shy, so I think I was just as nervous to leave him at a groomer's without my supervision. However, the staff was great and Aston was such a good boy with them! The groomers showed such love and adoration for their job and the pets they tend to. :) Before entering the grooming room, I could hear from outside the 2 groomers sweet talking the doggos they were working on, and they had such gentle tones with the little fur babies. That immediately made me feel comfortable leaving Aston there. Aston looked like a brand new doggy! His fur was really long and matted in a couple of spots, and his nails were in desperate need of a cutting. Almost 2 hours after being pampered, he was all handsome and ready to go home. My dog is not social as all, but when I came to pick him up, he looked completely at ease and comfortable there, to my shock. It was evident they took great care of my dog and Aston was def left in good hands. I expected him to come home moody after abandoning him at a groomer's without his permission (lol) but he was playful and happy-go-lucky when we picked him up. Based off the receipt, I believe my groomer's name was Tarra. Thank you for being a gem and taking care of my fur baby! $71 later and Aston came back with a haircut, nails cut, ears cleaned, teeth brushed, bathed, and glands expressed. I was also surprised they were able to get his nails to be at a proper short length! Other places I go to will barely cut any of his nails because they've been pretty long. At the end, the owner(?) also threw in a few small bags of dog food for free when I was paying, and I appreciated that as well :) read more

I have been spending a lot of money at Powell Bros trying my best to support as many local businesses in town as possible. The lady (who is always kind to everyone) was working, and she had a line, so I let everyone go ahead of me since I had a cart full. When I got to the register, my 26-pound puppy food would not scan. So the lady called her husband up to help. He couldn't get it to scan, so I offered to get the price, where it was 49.99. He tried to say it was 63.99 (the spot next to it), and I said no, I got it from here. He went on and on, basically accusing me of lying and had me in tears being so rude. I can't believe they were willing to lose me as a customer over 14 dollars. I hope at some point they check the cameras, but the lady knew I wasn't lying, but her husband made me never ever want to return. I would not lie about something so petty and was hurt because I had been referring so many people to shop there. Please go to Petsmart, Petco, or Chewy, but not a place that could care less about your business! read more

My daughter is immune-suppressed, and she has a new baby in a NICU unit in San Francisco. I obviously have to be 100% careful to make sure I can support her in person and not pass on any infections. I was thrilled that the pet food store that I have purchased food from since I moved here 18 months ago came through for me with a very easy/no contact way to purchase the dog food I need and just have it taken to my car. I have been bringing my dog Stella here for several years to see Tarra. She is a wonderful groomer and the only one Stella will sit still for. I had a work appointment this morning and was going to run to my office for a couple of hours then pick Stella up. The owners told me they would not let her sit in the kennel in the grooming room and I had to pick her up immediately when Tarra was finished. The son, who was listening to my rather heated exchange with his parents, piped up and said, "We're not a kennel." Oh. OK. What they are not, in addition to that, is a company that gives anything even vaguely resembling customer service. How inconvenient would it have been for Stella (who is elderly) to just sleep for an hour while I was on my way back from my office. Apparently, so inconvenient they couldn't be bothered. This business has had a longstanding good reputation, but unfortunately that was because of the former owners, who were lovely to deal with. The family that took over is skating on the store's past reputation and they are unpleasant and really can't be bothered. I will not return and I'm sorry because Stella really likes Tarra. However, there are so many other businesses who have the same things (at lower prices) than Powell Brothers I'm sure I won't have any difficulty finding some other place to shop and get Stella groomed. You should look elsewhere as well. read more

They are friendly and fast. Glad to have the quicker option to come here then drive to the plaza. They also have a a small rewards points system which is nice it doesn't pay for your order but it does make a difference. Worth the trip. A word of caution; it's not in the prettiest neighborhood so lock your doors! They have clinic days on Sunday, and cute rabbits for sale! The first time we came here, was for our older dog who needed his routine shots. The vet we usually go to cut down his hours and we didn't know where else to go. The line was long, but we didn't mind because it was filled with all kinds cute cats and dogs :) We were able to register our dog and the shots were quick! We came a second time for our new puppy and they gave us his second set of shots. The staff here is very informative and gentle with the pets. They know what they are talking about even when it comes to the food and other products they sell. They even clipped our puppies nails for the first time under 3 minutes without it even having the time to cry! He is now 1 1/2 years old and loves coming here for his routine shots (mostly to see the other dogs). read more
