We thoroughly enjoyed our walking trip in the Napa and Sonoma Valleys! The accommodations were very nice, especially the Glen Ellen hotel. We loved every minute! We did a four night Napa valley wine-tasting tour. Mary and Sheila organized everything with precision and communicated often through texts. All of the hotels were charming and well situated, and ranged from boutique to extravagant. The walks were well planned and of a good length, with clear instructions and well spaced wine tastings. The eight wineries gave us varied experiences, from luxury, to family-run, with hilltop, cool caves, quad bikes, and a horse ranch. We mostly had private tours just for us and the tastings were excellent. Learning to taste and spit was helpful at 10am! Walking 7 miles each day gave us an appetite for the delicious Foodie dinners. we hope to trek again with this excellent company soon. read more

Our legs have never been so tired and happy, bellies full of delicious food, and spirits rejuvenated after only 4 days. Thanks to the wonderful staff at Wine Country Trekking for the best "staycation" we could ask for. Luggage arrived location to location well in advance of our arrival, the trail guide was precise and guided us from San Francisco's Fisherman's Wharf out to the rugged coast and back. Being locals, we'd driven past most of the hotels for decades so finally getting to stay in places such as Sausalito's Casa Madrona and Muir Beach's Pelican Inn was a treat. We hiked about 26 miles in three days and have never felt so good. Whether you're new to hiking, a seasoned trail hopper, local, or visiting, you won't regret a MINUTE of this. read more

We took the San Francisco to Glen Ellen hike in early November 2010. There were four of us, all in our early to mid 60s. Accommodation selections were all excellent. A couple were really the best available, and not necessarily "spectacular", but all were comfortable and adequate...some were downright spectacular; Casa Madrona in Sausalito, Point Reyes Seashore Lodge, Walt and Smitty's in Inverness and The Gaige House in Glen Ellen were particularly special. The daily lunch allowances were exceedingly generous. Evening meal options ranged from adequate to spectacular! The wine tastings around Glenn Ellen were all memorable. Several of them were opportunities to sample wines that define the boutique winery experience. We would definitely travel with Wine Country Trekking again. read more

We recently had the pleasure of booking with WCT for a wine country trek, primarily thru Marin County, then to Sonoma for some wonderful wine tours. Well organized and thoughtful service, great trail maps and the driver was great. There were, however, some unfortunate lacks of coordination and follow-up, which disturbed us. Room bookings were not coordinated properly, a restaurant reservation was not verified and we had a major complaint about room equivalence at 2 hotels. Mary and her team apologized - made it right but it should not have happened. If you book - verify. Caveat emptor! read more

We had a wonderful mid-October wine tasting trip to Sonoma, thanks to Wine Country Trekking. Every detail of the trip was planned with care by the company-- they recommended great restaurants, Inns, etc., so all we had to do was show up and enjoy ourselves. Our trek included a wide array of wineries--from large producers to small boutique winemakers. Beautiful scenery, lovely places to stay, great wine and food. For us, it was the perfect balance of feeling independent and on our own, but at the same time we didn't have to worry about the details. Only thing I would do differently is I would take the time to read more about wines prior to the trip. The trip worked for the serious wine lover as well as the casual, but like anything, the experience is enhanced by a little preparation. Also--you'll have opportunities to order fantastic wines for shipping home, so plan for it if you are on a budget. Truly worth doing--a wonderful reminder of the trip. read more

My wife and I chose Wine Country Trekking for our honeymoon. They couldnt have been any better. We did the Napa Valley Trek, and it was perfect. It was a mixture of road walks and trail hikes, never too much walking... always just right. The maps and directions were spot on. We Stopped at both big popular vineyards and small vineyards, all which were great. The small vineyards were awesome as it was a personal tour done by the owners or the winemakers for just the two of us. All the Inns and Bed and breakfasts were soooo nice! They were all located in great parts of the towns. Wine Country Trekking did a great job setting this all up for us. They were very nice anytime we had questions for them. They made everyone aware that it was our honeymoon (which they didnt have to do), but it definitely made it feel even better for us. We enjoyed ourselves sooooo much that while on our trek we were telling everyone about them. I would use them again in a heart beat. read more

My wife and I signed up for Wine Country Trekking as our honeymoon trip through a friend of ours. Neither of us are avid hikers, but living in Boston we do walk around quite a bit, but I was a little apprehensive about the toughness of of the hikes. There was nothing to worry about. The hikes were challenging enough to give you a workout but not so difficult where you would be completely exhausted by the end of the trip. The entire package was amazing. From the lodgings, to the picnic lunches, to the private winery tastings the trip was one of the most fun things we've ever done together. All of the little details for the entire 3 days was completely taken care of for us, right down to the dinner reservations. The country is beautiful and the wineries we visited provided a unique look at both a larger scale (Ravenswood) to a smaller scale winery (Robert Hunter Winery) all of which I felt were distinctly Sonoma. The guild book provided was very helpful, although a little vague at some parts. More landmark pictures would be helpful. One thing to keep in mind, however, is to leave the kids at home for this one. Sonoma has very little in the way of kids entertainment and they can't appreciate the wineries as adults can (obviously). Aside from that, the service and attention we received from the crew and the experience they were able to provide for us was top-notch. I have been recommending this trip to everyone within earshot since we've returned and am already planning on when we can come back. The only compaint I have is that we only booked the 3-day trip and not a longer one. read more
