Caution! This business will card everyone in your party when buying beer. No problem when everyone in your party( (2 people) are over 21. They have the antiquated system where they do not accept "vertical" ID's. Even with the 53 year old father at the register. I get it if they think the ID is fake....but to refuse a 53 year old is ridiculous. This place had awesome beer selections for the past 12-13 years we've been coming to OC. Beer selections suck, and now they refuse service to people with valid ID's. They need a reality check and need to go F@CK themselves!!! An ID is an ID! You can vote with it, go to jail with it, and BUY BEER WITH IT!!! Looks like this is an issue with this company/location after reading the reviews. Another bad experience here. A few years ago we had a run in with a nasty female clerk who denied my 22 year old trying to purchase alcohol because her ID was "vertical" instead of "horizontal". That was fine, company policy and what not, even though the woman was extremely rude, I get it. My wife and I went in later to purchase some alcohol and my daughter was with us and the woman flipped out and tried to deny us again (another employee intervened and we were able to make our purchase). Fast forward to today. My wife and I go in to purchase some alcohol because the place is literally across the street from where we are staying. My wife is in her 40s and I'm in my 50s. My wife placed 2 items on the counter and I placed a six pack down. The same woman that gave us trouble 3 years ago asks BOTH of us for ID. Since I was the one buying, my wife didn't have her wallet or her ID with her. The clerk became quite rude once again and set the items aside that my wife had placed on the counter and said she couldn't sell them to me because my wife didn't have ID, though she was willing to sell me the beer I placed on the counter. I politely declined and put my ID back in my wallet and left. Besides our extremely negative experiences with this particular employee, our other experiences at this store have been fine.There are plenty of places in Ocean City to buy alcohol, save yourself the potential hassle of dealing with this woman and shop somewhere else. read more

I walked into the store to buy my mom a nice wine for Mother's Day as my father recommended this store to me for their selection. I WILL NEVER EVER GO BACK!!! The employees are rude, discriminatory, and nasty. First, Virginia does not change your license to HORIZONTAL as soon as you turn 21 SO THIS DOES NOT MAKE MY ID FAKE!!!!!!!!! Anyway, I was searching for a nice wine from France (they make the best Cabernet) and this lady clerk kept giving me an evil eye and rudely asked if I needed any help (in a manner she was hinting she was watching me...). I really had no idea what problem this woman had with me (maybe she thought I was a tourist, maybe she was mad because I look young, or maybe she just wanted a problem.) So, I finally go to check out, and she denies my license because it's vertical and against the store policy I guess? But that's very funny because I go to any other liquor store in ocean city, and they sell me anything. Trust me, I am the last person to have a fake ID and I'm well beyond 21. Then she proceeded to ask for my passport instead... BRUH who carries that !?! I was PISSED, so I went on yelp and I read reviews similar to this one. I guess the troll behind the cash register still resides... it's been years and I'm confident it's the same woman in all those reviews. DO NOT RECOMMEND COMING HERE!!!!!!! Very disgusted with this place. My fiancé and I (22 and 25 yo) were in this Wine Rack getting a 6 pack of beer last night (Christmas day 2015). As expected the cashier (named Monica) asked for our IDs. She took my fiancé's first. Immediately criticizing her Florida driver's license said temporary because of her citizenship status. I consider this a private matter and asked she just check the date and that the ID was valid and genuine. She looked at me, said she had a job to do, took the beer and said have a good night. I asked her why she is doing this calmly, she said because she has a job and we can get alcohol somewhere else. I did not get upset, I explained to my fiancé that is a personal matter and she did not have to lower herself to explain anything concerning her citizenship. This, I consider to be a discriminating factor. My fiancé is Hungarian and has lived her uninterrupted since 2001. I am sorry our wonderful immigration laws treat her the way they do. We are in the process of making that all go away when we get married. We are both professionals on our fields and are no kids off the street like 90% of people our age. Neither party children that is the usual clientele of the area we were in. You could tell this by looking at us. I am a top of my class university grad, self made professional race car driver, race team owner and even have my Class A CDL. My fiancé works for a major airline. We both live in Florida (homeowner) and were up because my dog (who was living with my parents) passed away the previous day. To the owners of this wine rack: I would file charges on this. However I am tired of the state of Maryland, Worcester county and their ridiculous laws. Ocean City is nothing more than a party town. I'm not going to lower myself to fight with this cashier or your business. I hope this will be one of my last times returning to this state. I told my parents of the situation and they agreed to never buy fuel or anything else from any wine rack in the area. I recommend others do the same. But I understand this is one of the selected few that can sell alcohol because of the ridiculous requirements to get a license to sell alcohol in this ridiculous state/county. read more

This place is run by the license Nazis. I went here a few weeks ago to buy a bottle of wine. Let me preface it with I am 36 years old. The woman looked at my id and laughed. She said, "do you really think I am going to sell to you?" I was shocked. I didn't even understand. I asked her to clarify. She said to me "I'd get out of here unless you want to go to jail!" I then figured out I look 15 years younger than I am. I walked out and screamed at her that I was a lawyer and I was a prosecutor. She flipped me off. I WILL NEVER GO THERE AGAIN. If you want good service go to Lighthouse Liquors in Fenwick. Always nice and they haven't ever carded me bc they can tell I'm not 19 years old. Don't even try coming to this store if you are out of state. Refused to serve us due to the SHAPE of our id's. Real, non-expired 21+ id's. Treated extremely rudely and would not give an explanation as to why she would not sell any of us alcohol, even those with the correct shape id's she wanted. read more

This is not a one stop shop for all your alcohol needs. But for what they offer, they have the best! We talked to a man who may have been a manager. He offered great advice and tips on everything they had. And even recommended great spots to eat. We will be back here over and over. read more

I was the one buying the alcohol. the woman cashier rudely asked for my boyfriends ID which is fine he's 22 and showed her his ID. She immediately took the case of beer from the counter and said i'm rejecting this sale right now. Meanwhile my father was behind us and we all looked at each other in awe. She refused us because his ID wasn't horizontal. I was in Ocean City for my boyfriends birthday (I am 22, he was turning 23) and we stopped by the Wine Rack to pick up a six pack of beer. As soon as we walked in the woman at the counter looked very rude and she proved me right when we walked up to the counter and she literally starts raising her voice at me about my ID since it was vertical (I am from out of state so the vertical license is not an issue where I am from). She would not even take my boyfriends ID which was not vertical. We were not that mad about it we were just going to pick up alcohol somewhere else. She kept going on about the ID in her loud tone. I have never in my life been treated so rude my anyone ever. I was still going to buy the Monster and Juice since I was there but the woman precede to keep talking about my vertical license being very rude, not to mention there were other customers behind me and she was causing a scene. I will NEVER return to this establishment when I am in Ocean City and I am telling everyone I know to stay away because they are beyond rude in here!!! read more

I first off hate that I need a horizontal ID in Maryland, I am from DC and we are not required to convert our licenses. I did though, but we get them in the mail about two weeks later so they issue a scannable piece of paper with all the information. Wine Rack would not accept my vertical license in addition to my printed version of my new ID the DC DMV issued. So I went home and picked up my 60 year old mother to buy the beer I originally went to go get for her and my father. The assistant manager denied the purchase because I placed the beer on the counter instead of making my mother carry it. Just because they won't accept my valid identification doesn't make me any less than of age, but they said it was like I was purchasing it because I placed it there. They denied the sale. You are not police. You are not the government. Not the first negative experience here, but it will be the last. Liquid Assets was more than happy to accept my ID and gave lovely service. My parents maintain a residence here and we will no longer make any purchase from the Wine Rack. read more
