From the moment we arrived, Ms. Susan set the tone. She welcomed us with warmth, guided us through the wines with passion and knowledge, and made us feel like honored guests rather than visitors. Her care elevated our entire experience. We enjoyed a beautiful charcuterie lunch by the pond, surrounded by serene scenery and great company. The wines paired perfectly: bold, elegant Cabernet Sauvignons full of dark fruit and spice, and a crisp, refreshing Sauvignon Blanc that lit up our tasting. Every glass told the story of the Happy Canyon terroir and the Grassini family's dedication to sustainable, hands-on winemaking. With awards like Best Winery & Best Tasting Room (Santa Barbara Independent, seven years running) and recognition as the Santa Barbara Wine Auction's Honorary Winery, it's no wonder Grassini has become such a celebrated name. But beyond the accolades, what makes it truly special is the feeling--connection, legacy, and service that makes you want to come back again and again. If you're in Santa Barbara, make time for Grassini. Sit by the pond, share a board with friends, sip the wines, and let Susan guide you--you'll leave with both bottles and memories to savor.

We visited this wine tasting room on 05/23/2026 at about noon…read more It was a lovely day, a bit overcast and the temperature was perfect. This tasting room has an outdoor deck on the Stearn's Wharf, with a great view of the water and the surrounding area. This outdoor deck is actually open to the public, so you don't have to buy wine -- but why wouldn't you? We were met by a very friendly person at the counter, who opened our tab and started us off with the first of our five tastings. You just had to make a quick trip up to the counter, to get your next one. It got progressively busier as the time went on; however, they were prepared with a second person as it got busier. Overall, this was a great afternoon. You can choose from an all red tasting, or a mixed tasting. We had one of each! I would definitely come back here again in the future.

The music is super chill and the wine is incredible. Moderately priced I always say. We got the signature wine tasting package which came with 5 pours. We got here and there was a bachelorette party of about 15 people drinking and having a good time. They looked like they were just starting their evening here to get some drinks in. So the service can handle a crowd. It was clean. The vibe was right, the wine was good, And the service was impeccable.

We were staying at the Ritz-Carlton Bacara for my niece's wedding, and since we had a full day to spend in Santa Barbara, we decided to come here -- and we're so glad we did! The winery was super cute and had the perfect Halloween vibe we were looking for. The person that assisted us was wearing a dinosaur inflated costume. It was so fun! Our original plan was to have a drink and then walk around downtown Santa Barbara, but we loved it so much that we ended up staying the entire time. We were seated in a cozy living room-style area with a fireplace right beside us -- it felt so warm and inviting. Later in the afternoon, the Dodgers game came on, so we enjoyed watching part of it while sipping our wine and just relaxing. They even had a fun Halloween special that paired chocolates and candies with their wines, which made the experience extra festive and unique. The charcuterie board was absolutely delicious -- we ordered extra bread and crackers because everything was so good! We had such an amazing time here. I can't express enough how much we enjoyed it. If you're ever in Santa Barbara, definitely come check this place out!

After a truly disappointing and uncomfortable experience at another winery on the same block…read more(Melville Winery), we walked into J. Wilkes Winery hoping to reset the tone of our day -- and it completely exceeded our expectations in every way. From the moment we arrived, the staff at J. Wilkes was warm, welcoming, and genuinely kind. Their positive energy instantly lifted our spirits. Everyone we interacted with was pleasant, professional, and attentive, making us feel not just like customers, but like valued guests. We were encouraged to relax and enjoy the space. We were even allowed to play a friendly card game at our table while sipping our wine, which added a fun and personal touch to the tasting. The team struck the perfect balance of being available, informative, and never overbearing. The wines themselves were fantastic -- smooth, rich, and well-presented with helpful guidance from the staff. Every pour came with insight, and you could tell the team truly loves what they do. This was the highlight of our wine tasting day in Santa Barbara, and we're so grateful we chose to stop here. If you're looking for a place that treats you with respect, makes you feel welcome, and serves incredible wine, J. Wilkes is the place to go. We will absolutely be returning!

This really is the perfect place for both wine AND food…read more So far we've been in a couple times sitting in the bar area and also out on their comfy patio space. Our servers Alex and Kayla were exceptional at both suggesting some delicious lunch items, and also giving a rundown on their different wine tastings. They gave us some helpful information on the assorted varietals and vintages as well. We went in specifically for their M5 and Riviera Rose, but discovered their extensive selection of other varietals and vintages. Came away with some new favorites: Sauvignon Blanc, Trois Blondes (a delicious white blend), Viognier, Mourvedre, and Estate Syrah. Perfect that they open at noon for lunch. We paired our wines with their Santa Barbara Smokehouse Salmon, Smoked Duck and Arugula Salad, Chicken Pesto Sandwich, and Sausage Mushroom & Carmelized Onion Pizza. Still so much on their menu to enjoy.

I'm giving this place 3 stars because of the efforts of one server to keep things afloat outside…read more When we arrived, another large party had just left outside and she immediately cleaned one of their tables so we could sit. It was chilly so she tried to light the heat lamp at my request but both that one and the replacement did not work. The replacement actually had the propane disconnected so I assume someone knew that tank needed to be changed out but didn't do it. The other tables from the large party were full of wine glasses and a half eaten pizza. Those sat there for over an hour, and we watched several groups of people come but leave without being seated because no server was available yo seat them and the only open table hadn't been cleared. When it was finally cleared, one guest at a near by table commented that the pizza shouldn't go to waste. The girl who cleared the table initially carried it inside but came right back out with it and served it to that guest whose kid ate it. I'm all for not wasting food and if the guest had gotten up and grabbed the pizza himself, that would be one thing... but to serve old food that had been sitting out for a long time to a guest is a no no for a business. We otherwise enjoyed most of the wines in our tasting flight. Would've given 5 stars if service had been more timely, tables cleared and old food not served up.
