Passing through, and discovered this spot here on Yelp. The window is in the back of the market where you will need to order. We ordered 2 asada burritos at $13.00 a piece and ate in the car before the long rainy trek home. Both the guy in the front of the store and older guy who took our order were nice and helpful. I appreciated that he made sure out orders were correct bc i love me some extra onions and cilantro in my burritos. Definitely recommend if you're in the area and our burritos were pretty stuffed so A++ for that! Oh and by the way, the salsas are spicyyyyyy, and so tasty! read more

Our new go to for Santa Barbara! The deli in the back is the best. The two gentlemen were friendly and helpful. Love that there are homemade salsas prepackaged and ready to go. Goodness sakes!!! I used to come here often. Prior to pandemic. I went one evening to buy a chicken shawarma. The kitchen had raw meat piled on the counter bleeding all on the floor. Cook was piling it high with no gloves and no face mask. However, when he saw me so he put on my his mask quickly with his bloody hands. Extremely popular food as a late night option for drunk younger bar crowd. I tried it to see what the hype was all about and they really do have everything. Every kind of food they've got it. I asked what they were most popular and famous for and I was told the steak burrito and it was a hearty serving with lots of rice and meat. They are doing a great job targeting their audience and the prices are good for what you are getting. Presidio Market is not your everyday liquor store! Not only is the selection vast, but they also feature a hidden restaurant of sorts. I was tipped by a friend to try out their food after hearing that their cafe was open for business late night. Walking into the store, I noticed how clean and orderly it was. There are a few bistro tables outside as well as a small private parking lot. Did not see any sign of a restaurant, though. When I asked the cashier, he pointed to the back corner and told me to look for a small ordering window. Order the food, come back to the register to pay. Easy enough. The ordering window was rather small and could easily be overlooked. However, the vast menu clearly stated that this was more than an in-and-out kind of spot. The menu featured several American, Mexican and middle Eastern entrees at reasonable prices. Not bad. My entree was made to order before my eyes. It was a large portion for the price and tasted very fresh and flavorful. Who knew that an average liquor store was hiding such a gem of a cafe?! Ok, it took me over two years to get my butt back over to Presidio to try their deli section, and it was win! The place looks like your bog standard corner liquor shop, huh. But at lunchtime the deli opens up where they serve generous portions at good prices. No, make that great prices. There was three people back there when I visited, all cooking up a storm. Way better than the usual liquor store food where you're surprised to even find one person in the deli area, albiet surly and downtrodden about his fate in life. Three of us shared a carnitas torta and a chile verde burrito. Each cost $6. I think it's really more like $5.50, but after tax and stuff and I generally round up to play it safe. The torta is the long bread roll variety, stuffed with juicy shredded pork and finely diced fresh jalapeno which gave it a good amount of zippy flavor. I happen to be the type that likes a torta as a softer round bun, and feel that the long roll gets too tough and chewy, but this was good nonetheless. The filling was fabulous, and that's the main point. The chile verde burrito was the winner item with big tender chunks of pork, wrapped up in beans, rice and lots of melty cheese. The cheese gets so hot and melty that this is best eaten with a fork. Basically, this is something normally ordered as a plate of food, except it's been wrapped up in a big tortilla. Do not eat this on the run. Skip the packaged salads, they are, you know, packaged. The sandwiches and Mexican food items are what's hot, fresh and delicious. The seating at the market is sparse and, frankly, a little unaesthetic. It's easy enough to grab the food to go, and walk it to the sunken gardens at the Courthouse if the weather is nice, which is most of the time in this town. Hidden gem, fo sho. read more

I rarely take time out of my life to review anything on Yelp. But for presidio, it is a must. I live right next door to the market & deli so I had to try it. It only took me one visit to be hooked. I keep coming back for the same thing.....SHAWARMA FRIES! Single handily the greatest creation to be made. The fries are so crisp yet soft in the middle, the shawarma that's thrown on top of the fries is perfectly seasoned and well cooked. And the melted cheese on top makes for a meal fit for a king...or stoner. It's super conveniently located for walking if you near State Street/downtown. It's in the back corner of the market, it's a little order window, and you pay in the front. There are so many options for different types of foods, but my personal favorites are the lengua tacos and the shawarma fries. Super flavorful, meat is well cooked, and both are relatively hard to find elsewhere. The prices are also great, especially for how much food you get! Depending on how many people have ordered, the wait can vary, but it's always worth it, especially since you know it's because they're making your food to order! REVISION: My original post objected to being overcharged and how the store would not issue a refund or exchange for a defective puff vape device. This place is trouble! If you walk in not knowing what you want, you're going to get a lot more than you need because they have everything you're craving for. Beer? Plenty of it. Liquor? A huge selection. Band-aids? Pretty sure they have that too. So after a few times walking in, you talk to one of the friendly people behind the counter and they mention that there's a deli in the back. Now you might be thinking, "I dunno, a liquor market deli?" Fair enough, but let me tell you... just try it once, and you'll be convinced. They have tortas, quesadillas, enchiladas, and even shawarma and falafel. I highly recommend the beef shawarma. The food is fairly cheap, but is good quality and will definitely leave you stuffed. They even have a "Buy 5 Get 1 Free" food card that you'll really appreciate after a few visits. And when you're done with the drinks and the food, let's hope you do get tempted by the ice cream or the cigars near the door. If you're ever craving food at night and are considering fast food, pause for a second and think of this place. It's about just as pricey, but soooooo much better both in quality and quantity. It's tough to write a review for this place. It definitely deserves your attention; that much is clear. My wife even said at our last visit there's no reason to get fast food, for less cash and higher quality we could come here, but it isn't without its problems. Out last visit was also the one that gave me a stomach ache and I've finally figured out why. The morning after my meal, one of the small salsa container cups I had leftover was completely ballooned up exploding with pressure (look for my photo here on yelp). Why? Bacterial growth and decay that release gasses. Did a nasty cook contaminate the food or was it just some careless customer breaching the inadequate spit guard? I still don't know but I did realize the spit guard is useless and the salsas needs more ice. Room temp salsas just make this easier (not to mention the new self-service deli counter lacking ANY lids and nowhere near enough ice). Like everyone else, I love the Beef Shawarma sandwhich and several other items on the menu are standout, like the carnitas burrito and the burger, but other like the Santa Barbara Cobb salad (something any place offering it in SB should have down) is just plain terrible. Almost anyone could do better at home with minimal effort. The menu should be revised and condensed and it could reach a point where it might not offer everything, but it could offer anything off its menu without worrying about satisfying the customer. read more
