Really excellent tour! I loved all the stops we made. It was cool getting to see the city from a…read moredifferent view as you don't often drive around NYC. We made stops at a lot of old school NY places. Loved the history behind each place! I liked that the tour wasn't set in stone and he came up with different restaurants along the way. Dave was really interesting to talk to and we got some different sides of NYC history. I can't recommend this tour enough and I'd definitely go on another!

Where to begin? Was…read moreit the Checker Marathon cab? The food? Was it (the not at all) Fat Dave? Some things are just ethereal. Not to wax poetic on YELP but Famous Fat Dave's Food Tours penetrates deeply. Food touches the soul, culture touches the soul, history touches the soul, and so experiencing all of that with Dave touched my kids and my soul. The 'food tour' had that intangible "what makes something special" in spades. I am a native New Yorker, transplanted to the West Coast 20 years ago. I came to NYC, with my 2 kids and one of their friends after my dad passed (3 weeks ago) to experience it in a way that we haven't before. As a native, I'd never thought I would consider myself a tourist, but keeping an open mind and wishing for a special experience for the (teenage!) kids, I signed up. Dave literally transformed our visit. Dave's passion for food reflects his passion for life. He's academic, Bohemian, a foodie, a great (vintage cab) driver, a local, and at your service with a smile. Give Dave the type of food you want (or don't want!), the area you want to visit (or don't want!), the length of time and experience you want (or don't want!) and he will accommodate. Dave is responsive by text, phone, or email. He's relaxed, professional, caring, thoughtful, organized, and super well connected with the locals. Dave will show you as diverse a food experience as you want. We went to 9 places throughout the City and Brooklyn, in about 5 hrs. That was a lot, but it flowed so well! There's a lot of eating, so he paces you - trust him - he's done this many times (with some of the most celebrated chefs in the world as well - check out his website.) We broke up the tour for some digesting and a change of pace by visiting Coney Island and chillaxing (teen lingo) at the Boardwalk for about 45 or so minutes. Perfect time to recharge and have some more fun with the locals. Eating the best pizza, Italian sandwiches, Asian soups, and desserts in NY, at the cozy, hole in the wall, locally loved favorites (with all the personalities that come with that!), we were more than satisfied at the end!! Dave's Food Tours is memorable in every way. Some things just have to be experienced. This is one of them. On behalf of my fam, and especially my Dad... thank you Dave. PS. Ask Dave what's splattered and stuck on his microwave's wall ... and what's in his freezer!! Bound to get a good story and smile!

Since I read there would be walking & riddles to be solved. And the older fam aren't too fond of the unknown & puzzle solving LOL. The ones that responded decided as a group to do the Cupcake Conundrum in Patchogue. What a great way to explore the different shops on Main St. I don't wanna give too much away because that's where the fun is. Solving the clues & finding the next spot. We got to try Locale where we dined on Mussels in wine sauce & a Margherita Pizza. Both were delicious! That's where we got our first clue. Then there was The Paper Doll Curiosity Shoppe which we all loved and Todd was so friendly & such a pleasure to talk with. Fun stuff in the store. Like the funky glasses with mustaches that we received & wore for the rest of the day like it was normal. We were stopped several times by curious onlookers who wanted to know about the glasses. We proudly told them "We're Food Detectives!!" LOL Several wonderful restaurants including 2 desserts. All of the food was delicious & enjoyable. Remember drinks are not included, and we were fine with that. It was a great way to spend the afternoon. A great way to get to know more about Patchogue's updated Main St. Fun times were had by all! 10-21-2018

The farm market didn't hold back on the samples, great cheese, meats, spirits, and lots of local info. Local businesses seemed genuinely happy to have us. Tips: Pay attention to forecast! This is rain or shine and 90% outdoors. We had sun, snow, clouds and wind. Dress appropriately. Don't assume the schedule will hold true. The pace is set by the group members. If some lag, the time will run on. (Not that that's a bad thing....we enjoyed our pace.) Overall a great time. If your are nearby or planning to visit, I would put it on the to do list. Hope it expands to other towns!

Our walk through Rhinebeck included sampling the best pizza I ever had, gourmet olive oils, balsamic vinegars and sea salts, breads, beers, and chocolates. We also had a chance to go into some of the unique shops Rhinebeck has to offer. Rhinebeck is a charming town and our tour guide enhanced the experience by filling us in on some of the local history. The shop owners were glad to see us and bent over backwards to welcome us. Make sure to bring a bag or backpack of some sort in case you want to purchase some of the great food you sample. We walked, ate and drank our way through Rhinebeck. It is a wonderful way to spend a day and I look forward to our next tour in another town but I also look forward to going back to Rhinebeck since it has so much to offer.

"You paid a thousand dollars for this jacket?! Alright, fine. Would be running behind to search for parking, so txt'd w/ Zach to get a catchup spot to meet - didn't need it, as we turned on Mullberry, there was a spot almost directly across from our 1st bite, so was perfectly on time! As we get out, I notice it's almost warm? I brought my favorite Kenneth Cole overcoat to do some crisp weather stomping around the West Village... gotta look sharp, right? Didn't need it, left it behind in the trunk; good signs so far! da Tour: Found Zach w/ the rest of the group, had a delicate/savory Northern China 1st bite in the park and off we went. Zach shared both historical & recent stories of Chinatown streets, buildings, art and culture as we wound our way to the next few bites, another savory, then a cute/sweet one. The streets are packed with locals elbowing by you just doing business, shopping for fresh meat & veggies, tea & nut shops, etc. You'll be tempted along the way, but hold-fast as all these bites will add up. As you turn a corner, you leave distinct Chinatown, for a completely different vibe. We literally smell the pizza and garlic in the air as Zach winds us into Little Italy and the bustling smells, sights and sounds of the Mulberry Street experience. We even witnessed protective NYC shopkeepers "dealing" with a rowdy local... "fugetaboutit"! Reminiscent of common squares in Florence/Tuscany, restaurants spill into the street, alfresco style with barkers standing by their menu boards, trying to lure you in... fun conversations can be had! You'll get 2 more each savory and sweet bites, YES, there's an excellent NYC slice mixed in. We ended at a busy little park where serendipitously a local band was playing as we enjoyed our last sweet bite. da Service & Experience: Perfect ending to a great afternoon, we noted several spots to visit on our own and revist, really informative; Zach was entertaining, as a working NYC actor, we hope to see him receiving aTony on stage one day and say "We knew him as Secret Food Tour Guide!!" Locals and out of towners both will enjoy this experience... book with confidence.
