Restaurant is along a strip of other bars and restaurants. There is a live DJ, interior is very cute. Outside seating was available but we chose to stay indoors. We arrived around 5:15pm and were seated right away. We ordered the Beer Battered Fish Tacos, Chicken Mango Tacos, and Chicken Empanada. The Fish Tacos were the star of the show, but everything was sooo good. For drinks, we got a Mango Margarita, Passion Fruit Margarita, Mango Mojito, and Strawberry Mojito. The Margaretas were strong but still delicious, and the Mojitos were not as strong but also delicious. They have a variety of flavors for both drinks, though they were out of the Peach and Cucumber flavors. There were multiple servers helping out, so there was always someone nearby when we needed something. My only negative is that we were sat right under a speaker, and the music was loud enough that I had to shout to be heard, but the music was very groovy so I didn't mind all too much. read more

Was with a bunch of friends whom I haven't seen in awhile. We tried out this spot and it was very good. We got in right before the weekend party crowd came in. The staff was very friendly and catered to our every needs. The food we had was very good. The atmosphere changed from being a wholesome Mexican restaurant into a club past 11pm. Man, what a fun places to have dinner and drinks. Very fun and festive vibe. Music was pumping and food was delicious. Not a great place to go if you want to have deep, soulful convos since yo can barely hear urself think. We got the fish tacos, jerk chicken, al pastor and shrimp tacos. The highlights were the fish and al pastor tacos. Fish was well fried and the spicy mayo was a perfect complement. Al pastor was soooo good. The meat was tender and the pineapple flavorful was evident without overpowering the overall experience. The steak burrito was also very good albeit a bit more expensive than expected. The tacos were great, for the price it was a decent size. I was full with 3 tacos. Service was ok, we weren't ready the first time they came around but then we had to wait quite a bit to flag someone down. They were busy talking w other servers by the bar. I say, I must admit I was tempted to try this establishment by their attractively low lunch prices ($8.95 for street bowl which includes peppers, onion, rice, beans, and choice of protein). I stayed, however, for the quick and attentive service and quality of their fare. Firstly, the lunch is delicious and comes out quick and hot! Portions are generous and It also comes with a bowl of chips and side of salsa. This entire meal costs south of $10 which is little under half what Chipotle would charge for the same thing. So, I find myself asking why I would EVER go there when this place is cheaper, better, and has great wait staff? I came here for a happy hour and it was quite an experience. We went on a Wednesday and it was quite busy. I went to the bar to put in my order and the bartender was so rude. I signaled to her to come assist us and she signaled a no motion. She was very rude and would not come over to service our area. Then I went back to the front to ask for assistance and they said it's busy we had to wait. I asked to speak to the manager and he said to wait we had only been there a short time to be patient. This was not the service which I expected. We were celebrating my colleague birthday and I wanted to celebrate his birthday. So I did not leave but this type of service was unacceptable. Then a guy came and he assisted me and that was the end of the problem. The food was ok, I ordered tacos which were good. We went to Cantina for Saturday brunch today. Unfortunately, the experience was beyond disappointing. We ordered the scrambled eggs with cheese and home fries and it was the worst plate of foods I've seen or tasted in a long time. Bland, cold, no presentation. The eggs also came out without cheese, even though it was specifically stated in the menu to have cheese. So we called the waiter, who mumbled something and walked off. Instead of offering new eggs, he brought over a couple ramekins of shredded cheese to add to the already cold eggs. When we asked why the cheese wasn't cooked into the eggs, which was stated in the menu, his explanation was that the cook "didn't work Saturdays" and "didn't know if everyone wanted cheese," and "didn't have the menu in front of them." For the rest of the plate, the toast was hard, cold, and dry. The potatoes looked like and tasted like cardboard. My friend, a vegetarian, bit into the potatoes to find a random hunk of chicken...????? I just don't understand why you wouldn't remake the eggs...or provide hot food to paying customers, not even some salt and pepper on the food, or even just available on the table. How disrespectful to your customers, who choose your restaurant over all the other options, in a time when everything is so expensive. We spend our hard earned money and time. Had a phenomenal time on a rainy night at Cantina. You'd think on a Friday night, with slippery conditions, that it would be tough to get service, or that the food wouldn't be top notch. But not so! The cheeseburger tacos and 7th avenue salads are excellent. The service is phenomenal - Dolce and Merneshca are darlings and take care of me. John is an incredible business owner and is always full of smiles. Sean is the "man around town" who knows everyone. B is the "bouncer's bouncer", always alert, watching, even when the "riff raff" of rude boyz are proliferating. The ambiance on a Friday night is exceptional. The DJ playing at 11pm on a slippery Friday mixed R&B hits with hip hop with ease and style. And the people inside? Some of the most beautiful people White Plains has to offer. Came here on a Thursday night for dinner. Walked in around 6:40 and the music was blasting. We ordered nachos and tacos to share. The nachos were actually really good. Lots of toppings and very tasty. The tacos were just ok. We got fish tacos and chicken and they both were kind of dry. The food is decent, but not the place for you if you're looking for authentic Mexican food. We had an odd interaction with our server. My friend asked for a refill of his sprite and the waitress said "we don't do refills" and took the empty glass and walked away. He never said he wouldn't pay for it.... Why couldn't he get another drink? Very strange. A DJ came out around 8:15 and the already loud music got even louder. It seemed out of place to have a DJ at a sit down restaurant. I ordered delivery from here on a Sunday evening. The elote was served on the cob, but it was fairly easy to slice off the kernels for a less messy eating experience. The corn was nice and firm but the crema sauce and topping were not as flavorful as I was expecting. I enjoyed the vejetale tacos. The corn tortillas were tasty and the ingredients were fresh. My mom got the rock shrimp and beer battered fish tacos and enjoyed them. The dipping sauces that came with the seafood tacos were great. I loved the spinach and cheese empanadas. The goat cheese inside was rich and creamy and the accompanying sauce was tangy and flavorful. One disappointment is that they don't have guacamole on the delivery menu. I stop in this place for some lunch after visiting the DMV in this area. It was a beautiful day out and they had outdoor seating but we decided to dine in. It was really spacious inside. It can gave me the every body knows your name (CHEERS) kind of vibe. I notice too that this place filled up quickly with people. Now to the food. 3 stars because everything I ordered was just okay. It didn't give me a WOW moment. They brought us some house made chips and salsa. They were good but not great. I ask for cheeseburger empanadas and two tacos not realizing I didn't ask for the lunch special and that would of gave me three for $9.95 like my other two guest order. So my tacos was four dollars each and I didn't notice this until I asked for my third taco. I was so excited about the empanada I ordered, I forgot to get the three tacos. I tried to ask the my waiter to fix it later because my bill was separate from my group but he didn't seem to want to but he also seem annoyed since he took our table. That's ok because I fixed that problem in my tip. These empanada I was so excited about was a disappointment anyway because there was no cheese. Not even a cheese taste. It was like I was just eating a regular beef empanada. I must say it was meaty and came with some good sauce. The tacos wasn't anything major expect my shrimp taco. That one was excellent. As for my jerk chicken I would pass on that one and the fish taco was ok. My overall experience for this place was just ok. The best part of this experience was that the prices were affordable and my drink. It was the best mojito I had in years. I wanted another one because they are my favorite but they are not always made the same. I also was dining out that evening so I was being modest. I was in town visiting family and decided to pop in cantina for a quick bite and see what it was all about. Had to try out a place that claims they have the best tacos in NY!! Got there around 9:45 on Friday evening and it was pretty packed. Was lucky to grab a seat at the bar. In a matter of 30 minutes the place was jam packed. Music was jumpin and the drinks were flowing. Definitely a great spot to come with friends for a fun party atmosphere. I was really only there for a couple of tacos. I ordered the Birria tacos, which comes in a set of 2 for $10. Also ordered the chorizo taco which was $4. Typical taco pricing. Can't have tacos without margaritas. Grabbed a couple of those as well. Solid margarita. Bartender was super friendly and did well balancing the crowd of people. The Birria taco was amazing. It was packed with some of the most juicy meat. DELISH. There was just the right amount of gooey cheese inside that made it the perfect taco. Of course you have the au jus to dip it in which made it even more amazing. The chorizo was awesome too. Chorizo can be greasy and salty, so I am not always a fan. This chorizo taco was on point. The name says it all. A no nonsense, taco and tequila restaurant in the heart of Downtown White Plains. Not because of the music, but there's a buzz that's energetic- even if hubs and I were the oldest ones here. It's all good. Free Chips & Salsa were good. Our server was all eyes and ears the night we were here. We also had gotten a Tequila shot on the house that was powerful and went down smooth. My 'Picante Mule' was great- just wished I got the whole package with the mule glass to round out the feel. And hubs' liked his Margarita. Whenever my husband sees pork belly in the menu, he goes wild. He was all over Cantina's 'crispy pork belly'- and it's actually crispy here. A lot of places say they have crispy 'cuerito'- and what he's gotten recently was soggy and mushy pork skin. He did 4 Tacos ranging from the crispy pork, to pork, chorizo and steak which he all loved! My Vegetarian, Beer-Battered fish and Rock Shrimp Tacos were great. Love how Cantina doesn't skimp on the protein (or Vegetables). My only issue is how the menu doesn't list 'with mayo drizzle' on tacos. So when I got them- guess what? Mayo on top. They weren't horrible, would love if the menu had that option of 'sauce' or 'no sauce on top'. Even better, if our server would've made any mention that tacos come with sauce on top. But listen, if you're into Mexican-style food, this is your place. They have dishes for carnivores, Pescatarians, Vegans (let them know ASAP to leave out dairy and any other animal protein) and Vegetarians. Very disappointing!!! Went there for Cinco de Mayo with a group of friends. I suggested we try Cantina after looking at their website which says "they have the best tacos in New York". We waited outside about 15 minutes to get in which wasn't bad. The place was packed and the music was pumping so I was hyped to celebrate Cinco de Mayo. We were seated and immediately nachos were placed on the table and the waiter came to take our drink orders so I thought we were off to a good start. We all order margaritas and placed our food orders. Most of us ordered tacos (I order two fish, one shrimp, one chorizo taco and a mexican corn). Others ordered similarly as well as two orders of nachos. The waiter told us the nachos were in a small plate and not enough to share and since three people wanted them two orders were placed. What came out was two large plates of nachos - way more than we needed or wanted and clearly enough to share. When the tacos came out all the tacos came out on one plate. The waiters sat the plates in the middle of the table, told us what was on the plates and walked away. We were shocked as everyone was expecting individual plates with their orders on it as you get in most restaurants. We weren't expecting family style and in this day and age of covid, who wants others touching their food with their bare hands?? We had to figure out which taco was which (there were several different chicken tacos on one plate), one person ended up without a taco shell because it was pulled off when trying to get a taco - it was ridiculous!! In addition, the tacos were not good, my street corn was cold and had no seasoning. I asked to speak to the manager about the "family style" serving and all he said to me repeatedly is that this must be my first time at the restaurant because that is how they are served. When trying to explain how we were left to figure out which taco was which and then having to try to take your taco without touching the others his response was that I was screaming at him - which I responded I wasn't but the music and everyone talking were LOUD so I had to speak loudly for him to hear me. He was of no help. One positive I can say is the drinks were strong - I only had one frozen margarita and I only needed one. I will NOT be returning to Cantina. read more
