This is quickly becoming a tradition in our family - we love the exposure you get up close and personal with the planes, their pilots, and crews. Lots of planes on ground to roam around (and sometimes through) as well as great aerial performances. It may be obvious, but it certainly did not cross our minds before our first visit - there is no shade as the show takes place on an airfield...pretty hard to have trees where planes take off and land! Pack sunscreen. Bring water. Wear a hat. Take hearing protection. If you are committed to staying a while, bring folding chairs. read more

We go every year! Dad was airforce and has been bringing me since I was a little kid. The long drive is worth it. We started getting prime seats a few years back, front row. Can't imagine ever missing this show. All the volunteers are great, commentary spot on, and everything on the show itinerary is entertaining. Tips- bring earplugs! Long sleeves and pants (both thin though) to shield you from the sun but not get too hot. I've seen way too many walk out with bodyparts looking completely pink(please bring your sunscreen). Cash is better when buying food. Also if you live a bit further away I suggest bringing a change of clothes for after- depending on how the wind blows that day you might not like smelling like a firework the entire drive back home. We drive to the show each year (vs taking the bus from one of the lots) and it's almost an hour drive back, so I prefer to change when I get back to my car. We have been patrons of this airshow many many times. we missed 2020 and 2021 due to family illness and death but decided we would try to make it this year. It's always right around my birthday so a great way to celebrate, sometimes staying overnight for a day or two in the Houston area. So since this year was my 70th birthday which is a big number my husband surprised me and decided to do just that. We went into Houston on Friday even though we knew the weather was cloudy and rainy it was supposed to clear up on Saturday to a degree and the air show is rain or shine. We arrived in Houston middle of the afternoon and enjoyed my favorite restaurant while we were there and there is a separate review for Kenny and Ziggy's NY Deli. The gates open at eight but the show begins around 10. We arrived shortly before 9 AM and were guided into one of the huge parking areas. We had wanted to do VIP tickets this year but had to wait to see whether we were indeed going to be able to go and unfortunately my husband waited a little too late so we've never done anything but general admission And been perfectly happy so that is what he did. This year there was a bit of sticker shock as the tickets were pricey but of course for families the nice thing is each adult ticket includes up to six children which then becomes a huge bargain so we get it and obviously decided we could afford to go . The pricing is what made the VIP tickets a little more attractive but again they were full up for Saturday and that was the only day we were able to attend. It was cold and cloudy in fact the most chilly air show ever in our experience. No sun except a couple of very short peeks which were then cover back up by lots of low clouds. The pilots are also incredibly skilled even in the clouds and wind they flew in great performances and from our seats in general admission we definitely could see what was in the air. The reason for the three stars win this is always been a five star show for us is the volume of specialty seating they now provide to all different levels of ticket pricing. Admittedly our fault that we bought tickets so late however we were not able to see anything that was on the ground mid airfield which is where the Coast Guard rescue the victim, ....The Frogs that did amazing jumps out of helicopters and probsbly landed perfectly onto the air field. Then there was Tora Tora Tora with lots of bombs going off and flights going low over the field-The Premier Blue Angels which we have always enjoyed watching the full performance including the maintenance and mechanic team prepping the planes making sure that they are in top performance mode and the take offs by those incredible jets and pilots. We could not see any of that due to all the tents housing guests? of the blue angels down by where we were sitting-but what made the decision that we were not going to move was that then there were other tenants housing the VIPs, then more tenants housing the family, more obstacles with the people who paid to be in the camera zone etc. etc. All those demonstrations and preparation's are a big part of what we always enjoyed so we will not be back. It ended up being a very disappointing experience. It may have been this way over the last couple of years that we were unable to attend but we didn't realize it. I feel bad for the hundreds of people (probably thousands?) actually in attendance under general admission that kept having to walk back-and-forth with their kids to small areas where there was visibility to the airfield available between the placement of the tents. I hope that whomever developed the way that higher paid tickets get to see the whole show versus the general admission that don't rethinks things a bit and maybe placement can be such that there are large obstacles blocking the visibility of the field. That or just eliminate general admission or at least advise that much of the demonstration parts on the ground will not be available to those ticket holders. read more

The air show is great! There are also a lot of planes on the ground to see. The only complaint is online is specifically says you cannot bring umbrellas in. We ended up having to buy umbrellas for $50.00 a piece to block the sun since it was so hot. And of course other visitors were allowed to bring in their own umbrellas. read more

A MUST-SEE! My only complaint is not going to see this air show sooner. This year had a WW2 reenactment, thunderbirds, and blue angels. It was phenomenal and patriotic. Be prepared to walk and be in the heat but it is worth it. read more

The air show was awesome and a huge thank you to the performers and America's military. What needs improvement is the parking. Totally disorganized from start to finish. They need to start months ahead making a plan, publishing the fact that it's all off-road parking and you might have to drive up and down over curbs to park or exit the parking. If you drive a sedan that can't hop curbs then don't buy tickets to the show. Tell people ahead of time, get the staff together before the event and make a plan. Allowing people to double and triple park is also unacceptable. We were blocked an extra hour in the heat due to the rudeness of people double parking. They advertised that its hot outside and the show was providing water stations for anyone to fill a cup or bottle. The 1 water station placed inside the "Prive View" (read more expensive) area ran out of water about 10:30 and was simply taken away and not replaced. Other water stations were out of water most of the day as well. There was clearly no plan or process around offering water. read more

Definitely one of the best airshows I've ever been too! This airshow took place on Ellington Field Joint Reserve base. By the show being on base it allowed for a lot of planes! I've never seen so many different planes and jets in one airshow. One of the most impressive things about it was the amount of WWII planes that flew here. I've been to the WWII airshow in New Orleans nearly every year since it started and there are not half the amount of planes as were here in Houston. It was seriously impressive. There was a reenactment of Pearl Harbor with the Japanese Zeros flying, and the B17 and lots of pyrotechnics exploding to make it seem like the Japanese Zeros were attacking. I've never seen anything like this at an airshow and I've been to a lot of airshows. This year the Blue Angels flew here but from reading up it seems like they switch years with the Thunderbirds. I'd love to go back to see the Thunderbirds fly. I'd also highly recommend buying a ticket for one of the VIP areas. The tickets are half off if you buy early enough, and they come with primo seating plus food, drink, bathrooms and parking on base. Trust me when I tell you parking on base is awesome because you don't have to shuttle back to your car after it's over. I'm really glad my friend invited me to this show because it's close enough to travel here easily, and it's an absolutely fabulous show! One of my very favorite events of the year! Wings Over Houston is a spectacular air show that should not be missed. This two day event is held every year at the Ellington Airport located in Houston (Clear Lake area). Daily ticket prices are $28 adult, $5 child, and children under five are free! You can also buy a daily family pass for $60 which includes two adult tickets and six children tickets. Your ticket includes free parking, a five hour aviation performance taking place between 10:30AM and 4:30PM, access to modern aviation displays, a kid's carnival, numerous exhibits and interactive displays, wide variety of food and vendors, and much more. Both days the gates open at 8AM and I strongly recommend getting there early. Traffic down Highway 3 will start backing up around 9AM. You can easily be stuck an hour or more sitting in line waiting to park if you arrive after 9AM! Also if you try to leave the air show anytime after 3PM you will more than likely be stuck in traffic on your way out. My favorite aviation performance is by the Blue Angels! Their performance usually takes places sometime between 1:30PM-3:30PM. You will be blow away by their performance. Make sure to bring earplugs with you or buy some from one of the Wings Over Houston vendor tents. The performance can be pretty loud especially for kids! Besides watching the airshow there are tons of activities on site. Multiple vendors are giving away goodies (t-shirts, toys, pens, hats, drink samples, snacks, you name it!). There are a lot of photo opportunities as well with all the different planes, vehicles, etc. that are on display. Be prepared to spend some money on food and drinks! A lemonade will cost you around $8- the same goes for a smoothie. The food and drinks are pretty pricey! read more

Good afternoon Texas! At the Wings over Houston air show at Ellington airport. Got here at about 8:00 am this morning, easily Parked and walked in to a display of large flying machines. As you can see by my photos there was plenty to see and great for the aviation enthusiast. It's an excellent family event with several food and drink kiosks and other areas of entertainment. Some airplanes offer a visual and walk in tour. You can bring picnic food and don't forget chairs, a hat, an umbrella, water and hearing protection. There are Pearl Harbor demonstrations, skydivers, and every year they have a special aviation group close out the show. This years closing act was performed by the Thunderbirds. It's a visual experience that's exciting and entertaining. At end of day which is usually around 4 pm be ready for gridlock so best thing to do is relax, walk around and wait till traffic reduces. I've been attending the WOHA for the past several years. I'm not going to repeat what many have already stated that it's an awesome show. Some may gripe about having to pay extra $$ to get better seats, but I'm willing to shell out the extra bucks if it guarantees a shot without a head blocking my view considering that I'm a fairly short person. The last couple of shows I've attended was not the fault of the airshow, but there weren't as many planes (I think it had to do w/ costly upkeeps and also due to hurricanes that damaged some of the planes) as in previous years, but it was still fun. Now, what I do miss is the F-18's sonic booms. I'm not sure why they haven't had them lately, but I really wish they'd bring them back. One last thing, getting out of the parking lot after the show can take a while. So, my suggestion is to bring a cooler containing snacks/drinks and to keep it in the car. That way, you can just hang out until the traffic dies down. We hung out for over an hour, snacking and previewing photos. read more

WOH is a great family-friendly event at Ellington Field, just southeast of Houston. The event consists of vintage airplanes recreating battles from WW@ and Vietnam interspersed with trick flying and modern marvels like the Blue Angels, Osprey, and the Oracle Race team. They even had a race between a jet-truck and a Breitling racer. I made my son's year when I signed us up for a $25 helicopter ride. It only lasted 3 minutes, but it's a fun adventure for the kids. Parking and traffic and definite pains, and is exacerbated by construction in the area. It's a great time though for any aviation enthusiast. read more

So in past years this was a 5 star air show. This year due to the lack of active military jets, it dropped significantly. The first time I was out here it was amazing and would have given it a five. The second year it was still a 4.5, but it's the same show every year for the most part. Now, after five years, it's gotten repetitive, and without the military jets, not as interesting of a show. If they are able to have the military static displays and fly overs back in the future, it is totally worth it and I'd rate it a 4. If not, its still a neat thing to bring your kids too. Tom N.'s review hits the highlights, but I should mention some negatives he left out: dealing with the traffic, stadium food prices and rather steep entry fee when you figure it's mostly like being at a museum. ProTip: You can actually catch most of the flying parts for free as the planes are in the air thus defeating the need to go inside the gate to see that part. read more

What an amazing airshow! This fun 2-day event is held annually at Ellington Field. There are lots of activities that's great for the family from games, rides, and flight simulators. The main attraction of course are the old warbirds. On the ground, there are many WW2-vintage planes on display. Some of the planes offer tours where you can climb inside and sit in the pilot's seat that's fun for kids to explore. The planes vary from WW2 US bombers to Korean War-era jets to Japanese fighter planes. It's a sight to behold to see these old beautiful fighter planes in action flying in formation with each other. Bombers will flyby and drop bombs for a great display of fireworks and air power. And watching the aeronautics of these planes were amazing as they flew in spirals, tumble/roll, low fly-by near the crowds, and painting the skies with smoke. Definitely a must-see Houston event! read more

The 2014 show was another great one. It was good to have the military back! The Blue Angels were perfect as always. This year the new Viet Nam demonstration was a nice addition that provides more history and heritage jets. It was a record crowd so I am sure some people had issues with congestion leaving the area. I stay until they kick me out so it doesn't bother me. If you don't like fighting the traffic use the free shuttles and relax. Anyway, plan on coming out next year and enjoy the show. read more

They are very money hungry. Almost all good viewing areas are reversed for big money. So just to get in with a decent view you need to spend almost 80 dollars. The show is about average, they have some simulated fire demos, but again you need to be in a good view area to really see it. read more

I bought tickets online for my grandson, son-in-law, and myself. We drove out there and sat for over 2 hours in the rain waiting. finally, they told us that the airshow was cancelled. When I tried to get my money back, I was told that it would not be refunded and I could consider it a donation. That is not acceptable to me. I will give them any of my money again. That was a very poor business decision on their part. They don't deserve any stars. read more

I went to wings over Houston 10/19/19 Saturday. I had not been in a couple of years. I see the vendors have now become even worse than going to a pro football or baseball game with food pricing. 15$ for a turkey leg or bbq baked spud? Outrageous. And less substance to the air show itself also. Big ripoff if you ask me. Also they discourage you bringing unbrellas for shade but yet sell them at the air show. read more

The airshow is great, but I'm not going back until they address the traffic issues. I spent TWO HOURS AND THIRTY MINUTES getting out of the parking lot. Previous years I have spent as little as 30. I didn't move for a SOLID TWO HOURS at one point. This is TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE. read more
