With Winnie, it's about your face. Be prepared for some pain (she will find stuff in your skin that has been there for years that the other facialists just ignore. She looks at your skin with a huge magnifying glass. I love Winnie!). I'm in SF now, just newly indoctrinated to the world of the West Coast, but deathly afraid to waste my money on a new facialist. So, I'm itching to go back to NJ in two weeks so that I can see Winnie! My face needs HELP (ok, ok, I also want to go back east to see family but a chance to go to Winnie for skin help is an added bonus!) Caveat: I haven't tried those Chinatown facials which are supposed to be about $50, so I can't comment on the difference. I trust Winnie, tho. She is clean. I drive four hours every month to this place for a facial and microdermabrasion (I know, crazy right!), and it's totally worth it! Winnie provides quality treatment/extractions as well as the most effective and sophisticated skincare lines available out there (Obagi, Qiora). I've been to several aestheticians through the years, and hands down, she is the most thorough when it comes to taking care of your skin and performing extractions. In terms of customer service, she really tries to build relationships with her clients instead of treating them as one-time customers. Before I met her, my face suffered from chronic acne. With lots of patience, a structured skin care regimen, and Obagi products, my skin is better than it was years ago. On the down side, the products can get pretty pricey (especially the Obagi lines). Compared to other high-end spas, the place is not very fancy. But I prefer high quality service over decor any time of day. Winnie does a good job of extraction and cleaning your skin. I've actually had better results from microdermabrasion and peel done by other aestheticians. I don't like to feel pressured into buying products which she can sometimes do. Winnie was always nice to me until one day she was a little off in her mood and was yelling at me and reprimanding me like a child. I almost stood up and walked out in the middle of my facial. About 2 years ago I was battling severe and painful acne-I tried a lot of useless products and decided to go to a aesthetician. Winnie was the one closest to me plus had decent reviews (like 2 at that time) so I decided to book an appointment with her. I am not going to lie, I came in apprehensive, I've had past experiences with aestheticians but I always found that treatment was lukewarm and a constant push to buy their products. Winnie was nothing like that at all! First thing she did was examine my skin, under this magnifying camera- on her huge TV. So my terrible skin was blown up on screen to see. She told me what type of acne I had, went through the possible reasons and detailed what she was going to do. I liked the fact she explained and told me the procedure beforehand. About the treatment- with my severe acne- she did a very thorough cleaning followed by a microdermasion. Ladies- the cleaning is PAINFUL with a capital P!!!! ..be forewarned, it's not for the faint of heart. But beauty is pain right? She has the strongest and most gentle hands handling my skin.lol. Afterwards- she put me on the Obagi skin regime- which she admantly stated that I need to follow. Well my skin cleared up dramatically afterwards and after about a month or two I dropped off on my skin regime......... The result? My acne came back - added with stress - the second time acne attack was worse than the first. I literally ran back to Winnie . Like a mother hen, she knew I didn't follow the regime and chided me lol- afterwards she joked that my face is straining her hands ...LOL...and that I needed to follow the skin regime in order for it to work. Well, after the second painful facial extraction- I did and it's been a year later and my skin is pretty clear, still gets bouts of acne from time to time, but NO WAY near what I had 2 years ago. In summary- The products work, Winnie works. Follow what she says...she produces results..but be patient - acne won't go away overnight. I wanted to tell everyone out there, do not use Obagi Nu Derm products if you are over 40 years old with sensitive dry skin. Winnie sold them to me for $600 (you can get much cheaper online). The products made me look 10 years older. My face got burnt, small wrinkles were created. Certain area of my face skin turned shining and thin from the muscle like an old lady's apple face. I stopped using them after 6 weeks. It's waste of money! I was referred to Winnie for facial by my friend. She definitely has her own customer service style. She is very pushy and shows the kind of no time for your nonsense attitude. I don't think she really understands people's skin in different stage of life. In addition, she sold me used Obagi tubes. The entire hour I was there, I felt like I was in an Obagi infomercial. Its way too much! As for her technique, she uses a small silver tool to extract the pores. Let me tell you something. Winnie is the truth. *drops mike and walks away...* A little background...long story short: I had flawless skin a year ago. I went to a "celebrity" dermatologist for something NOT acne related (I chose her because I have sensitive African American skin, and she's "famous" for that kinda thing). During my initial visit, this high-end dermatologist noticed that I had like literally TWO pimples on my face, so she prescribes me a mild acne medication. All is well at first. My skin was more flawless than when I first went to see her...until about three months later. I abruptly started suffering from THE worst acne ever! I don't know what happened; I didn't change anything with my routine, diet, no stress, etc. I go back to the same dermatologist for several months, each time she prescribes me something even stronger. It felt like she was running a nuclear experiment on my delicate, super sensitive African American skin. I eventually quit that dermatologist with the worst looking skin that I've ever had in my life. I didn't know what to do; this experience definitely put a damper on my confidence. I was so self conscious talking to people...ugh I shudder thinking about it. Fast forward to about three months ago...I'm scrolling though Yelp! all desperate and what-not...and there it is; the review by Natasha C. that changed everything. So I call Winnie, make an appointment and show up at her shop with a face full of acne, hyper-pigmentation, and shame. She was full of energy and all about business. She analyzed my skin with this magnifying thing that projected the grossness of my face onto this TV, gave me her professional opinion, and off we went to the back for my facial. (I never had a facial before, so I didn't know what to expect. I didn't know that it was gonna hurt...smh) I could see a visible difference the same day, no lie. I bought the Obagi products she suggested and followed her routine to a T. When I tell you my face made a complete 180 after just one visit, no exaggeration. I am from India and I had acne (mostly comedones) ever since I was a teenager. I am 30 now, I still keep getting them. I tried all creams given by dermatologists. My skin seemed to improve when I used those creams, but when I kept using them, my skin started to get dry and dark. I stopped using them when I was 22 or so and started chemical peels. That helped too, but it was temporary. I gave up all treatments that promised to fix my acne and pigmentation (dark on forehead and around the mouth). BTW, I tried Proactive too, it just didnt work for me. My skin started getting very dry. One more problem with my skin is pigmentation around my mouth and forehead. No makeup could really hide it. I was told about Winnie by my cousin. I thought OK, I will give this one a last try and give up if it doesn't work. When I came to Winnie for the first time, I had cystic acne on my jawline. It was painful. She looked at my face and said I needed Photo blue and Obagi. At first, I thought she was trying to sell me everything in her store. I said OK for the Photo blue. OMG, it was soooo painful. But she is a brave and dedicated woman. She cleaned each of my acne inflammation and then did a peel and then the photo blue. Lots of patience and I commend her on the fact that she doesn't feel disgusted with all the cleaning she has to do. After 1.5 hrs long session of photo blue, I was horrified when I looked at my face. It was burnt. I looked terrible, 10 times worse than what I came in with. Then she asked me to buy Obagi. I bought them half heartedly. Day 2 and Day 3 - I had to wrap a scarf around my face at work, it was that horrible. But 10 days from that day, my life literally changed. Obagi helped me a lot with pigmentation. It was really really good. Everybody started noticing the difference in my face. I think the major difference was the reduced pigmentation on my face that made makeup look better on my skin and generally too my skin started to look a little light and healthy and also less acne. I went back to her after a month and she did photo blue again, and this time it was much less painful and my acne reduced quite a lot. And then I went to her 2 months later and she did microdermabrasion for me as I didnt have any acne. All this while I was using Obagi, and it kept my skin in good condition. But then I stopped using the creams and didnt go to her for 3 - 4 months, and my jawline acne was back. She had to do Photo blue peel again. With all that said, this is my conclusion. Acne can only be cured from inside. But, going to Winnie is like maintaining the skin externally, and with very less damage (unlike those harmful creams). Do what she says diligently and you will definitely see the results. Obagi creams definitely help you remove pigmentation, control the acne and keep your skin in good condition. About Winnie, I love her. She takes care of your skin as if it's her skin. And she does an amazing job with whatever she does. So much confidence, dedication and perfection with evident results! I totally recommend her. She is the best! I had to stop using her creams when I was pregnant and breastfeeding. So I went back to her after 2 years with horrible jawline acne, my natural pigmentation and pigmentation from pregnancy. She did photo blue and gave me the creams again. I had to attend a wedding in a month. So I used her creams diligently and my skin was 100 times better in just a month. I am not exaggerating. People really complimented me. I naturally have very bad skin - so receiving compliments for make up and skin is a dream come true for me. One thing about the creams is that, like any other acne creams, Obagi dries up your skin too. You just have to make sure you use your judgment about when to apply them, when to skip a day or two, when to skip around the mouth (this area tends to get very dry if you use them everyday). You can apply #3 everyday. But #4, #5 with triretinon - you may have to use them alternate days if you see your skin in drying up too much. Initial peeling is common. Don't skip days in the beginning, but after your skin gets better, and when you just have to maintain it the way it is, you may have to skip applying the creams for couple of days. read more

I have been going to Winnie Beauty for over 10 years. When I first saw her, my face was a wreck. My teenage years were punctuated with a few acne flares here and there, but then in my 30s I developed adult acne which was horrible. I had those big painful cystic stuff that stubbornly stayed my face despite the high end products and occasional facials. I found Winnie through a friend who highly recommend her. During the first session, she carefully and deeply cleaned my face during the 1.5 hour session. It was a bit painful as all extractions can be but I could tell she was getting as much material out as possible. I didn't look good the first few days. However a few days later, after my face started healing and those big cysts disappeared. With each subsequent facial, the extractions become less intense as my skin became healthier. She has so many methods for different problems- microdermabrasion, blue light therapy, blue peel, and the list goes on. She takes the time to look at your face to see which modality works best at that time. She is also knowledgeable about nutrition and how it affects the skin- can't eat a carton of mangoes at once! Overall, I did not have a good experience at this place. I decided to go to Winnie Beaute after reading all these reviews. When I first called, Winnie answered and told me she would call me back because she was busy. She would not really give me any information through the phone. I did not receive a call back but I still thought to give it a chance and so I called the next day and scheduled an appointment for a consultation. The whole phone call was pretty rushed but I thought everything would make sense once I actually go in. When I first walked in Winnie seemed nice and welcoming but again everything was just rushed. She asked multiple times how I found out about her and I told her through yelp reviews. I sat down and she looked at my skin in 2 minutes and told me my skin condition. I did not mind her honesty about my skin because I really wanted to learn about my skin and I did not need her to sugar coat anything. My issue with her was that I felt as though I was rushed and that I had to make a quick decision about whether I should go for the treatment facial or not. At this point I still did not know much about my skin, I was still confused, and all I was given was the price of the facial and my skin condition. She kept getting up while I was there doing other things. She also made a remark about my head-covering saying that she would not give me the facial if I would not remove it. For some reason I thought there was just a language barrier (because she does have a thick accent) and that I probably just misunderstood her. After some thought (a few minutes), she asked me to make a decision whether I want the facial or not because she is "busy" and because I was somewhat desperate I agreed. I got ready for the facial and again she asked me to remove my head-covering and that she does not understand why I wear it. I would not have minded her asking me to do so but she was not respectful about it. The facial itself was not a relaxing process at all. She made remarks about how she thinks my religion is "wrong" while she was giving me the facial (other remarks about religion were also said). I was in shock but I have already agreed to get this facial so I went along with it. I simply and respectfully disagreed with her. Finally, my facial was over (not sure of the exact name but it was an extraction facial, I have comedos). I somewhat knew that my face would probably be a bit swollen after the facial but I did not realize to what extent. She told me I need to buy her products in order to continue healing/treating my skin. Although, it did seem as though she wanted me to have better skin (she kept saying that), she did not want to educate me about my skin. She made it seem as though she is doing me a favor by sharing her knowledge about skin and that it was not her job to do so. She also said that her goal is not to make business but rather to help people that deserve it have better skin. She told me that if I did not take her advice and I called to schedule another facial she could say "no don't come in" if she wanted to. Anyways, I tried to ask what I should do and what products I should apply to my skin after this facial if I did not buy her products and all she said was use salicylic acid. I decided not to buy her products because overall I was just really confused, shocked, upset, and nervous. I went home and I was upset and stressed, all I thought about was how long was it going to take for my face to heal and was it going to get better? I started researching about comedos and learned more about my skin through my research. I feel as though that was the one good thing that came out of this experience - the fact that I now know the name of those little bumps on my face (comedos). After sharing my experience with a friend they told me they don't understand how I put up with such an experience. I decided I would not go back and I would wait and see how my face heals. I knew for sure I wanted to put up a review and share my experience though. In about a week, the scars left from the extraction method were almost gone. My skin got a bit better for a short period of time but the comedos did not clear up. My skin is still the same even though I cleanse twice a day and eat healthy for the most part. About a week or two ago Winnie called me about a review she thought I put up. It was a negative review saying they did not enjoy the experience at all. No matter how many times I told her that it was not me who put that review up she would not seem to believe me. I told her I did not write that review but that I was planning on writing a review about my experience. I found it odd that she called about a negative review thinking it was me although she told me before she does not care much about making business. All in all I am not saying that she is not a specialist in what she does but I just did not have a good experience. It was a very stressful process that just left me insecure. I've been suffering with severe adult acne for years now and have tried every product and medication out there but nothing had worked. I was a few months away from getting married and a colleague recommended Winnie Beaute and I'm so grateful that I followed through with her recommendation. I went for monthly facial extractions and used the Obagi skin care regimen as outlined by Winnie and my face was acne free in time for my wedding. The extractions were VERY painful and the brief side effect (skin peeling) from the products was totally worth it in the end!!! Patience is certainly key...this was a process but, you have to trust in Winnie. She is friendly, intelligent and has a genuine desire and passion to help others.
