Sincerely the best of any resort we've stayed at -Genuinely friendly staff -The cleaning crew was phenomenal and didn't miss a spot The not-so-good: -Paper thin walls. We were woken up multiple nights because the upstairs guests were walking around. Yes, plain footsteps - not even stomping - were very audible. For close to 1k a night, this shouldnt have happened. My cheap grad school duplex apartment didn't even have walls this thin! -Friction prevented us from giving the resort more money. There's room service but no menu in the room and it wasn't easily found online either. And we were so ready to drop a good amount of money on poolside drinks and food but nobody waited on us both times we were at the pool. (They did happen to wait on the social media star who was present, which was very obvious, and we made eye contact with another family who shrugged because they hadn't been waited on either.) And finally the coffee shop closed at noon. We would have happily patronized the shop for a treat and a coffee and were disappointed to find it closed so early. -Our perception was that there was nothing going on at the Wequassett. We stayed in June (and received the May newsletter; perhaps that would've given us more info if we had the correct one?) We had expected the poolside bar to be open. Maybe some live music. Smores for the kids by the fire (we would've purchased this.) So many opportunities for improvement! We stayed at the cliff house in Maine last year and there was a number displayed around the resort that you could text and they'd send a message with info about was going on at the hotel that week! Such a memorable touch - Wequasset could consider something like this. All in all, not awful, but not blow-your-socks-off fantastic, either. Just plain average in the realm of resorts.

Every single time we visited, the service has been impeccable and I find it hard to think about any other resort that can get even close to Wequassett. The grounds are perfectly kept and the rooms have been recently renovated. And although, there's a trend even with classic high-end resorts (St. Regis, J.W., Ritz-Carlton) to make their renovations a little too modern for my taste, Wequassett successfully kept their old school charm. We always stay at their Signature Water View King rooms (and book well in advance as there's only a few of these) so I can't speak of other room types. The amenities are flawless and even though the main pool gets VERY crowded during summer weekends, the pool attendant always found 2 chairs for us. My only recommendation for this property is to have a backup plan for the main pool. Perhaps installing a deck and adding some more chairs there to accommodate more guests that prefer the beach vs. the pool.

We had four little girls and this place has the best kids' menu including steak, fish n chips, and many other choices. The view just makes the celebration joyful. All the staff assisting Colleen were great too. Adults ordered off menu. My crab cake was a work of art. Hubby had lobster roll. Others: salad, grilled cheese with meatball, huge sandwiches. We ordered cocktails and beers. Thank you Pelham House for glasses of bubbly to make a proper toast! I ordered nose gay bouquets of flowers for the four little girls and a larger one for my sister from Heather Rose Florist in Chatham. Made our table extra pretty and great for the photos. Cheers. Everyone knows everyone since the same people usually visit at the same time. Disappointed: the ambiance...very dated furniture, appliances, and attention to detail. After checking in, we noticed there was no shampoo in the room, and the usual Salt and pepper for cooking was absent. We went to the front desk to inquire, and were informed that they only do paper products, not liquid products. For salt and pepper, CVS, down the street was recommended. Additionally, most resorts provide a broom/dustpan to maintain cleanliness-none here! There was a slight sewer smell coming from the bathroom. This was the studio unit, not the townhouse style. We had to bring our own blanket. The location is good, and the room was quiet. During a 48 hour power outage the Resort Maintained power(thankfully), and could not control the noise coming from the generator stemming from the adjacent private property. We spent the week here in the Beach House and it was paradise. Our own patio, steps onto the beach with a breathtaking view was just what the doctor ordered. We were greeted warmly and brought to our room upon arrival and were on the beach lounging within minutes. The owner, Peter, was always around working on something! It is super clear he loves what he does and cares deeply about his guests. He gave us some great recommendations for eateries (devils purse brewery being my favorite!) and always was incredibly friendly and easy to talk to. Each morning from 8-10 they serve a nice continental breakfast. My husband and I were go each morning, eat and then take a nice long walk on the beach with our coffee. The private beach already has chairs and umbrellas so no need to bring your own, they set them up each morning and take them down each evening. The inn is also within walking distance to many great shops/restaurants. We went to many of them! The kite shop was super cool and we were able to grab souvenirs for the littles back home. After dinner, come back to the inn for a fire on the patio! I very much hope to return here. I am so thankful we found this and splurged for the beach house room! It has a great location steps to the beach (about 250 according to the innkeeper), a pool, a newly obtained liquor license so you can purchase drinks, and a friendly staff. It all made for a pleasant place to stay. The included continental breakfast was very nice - it is limited to 8am to 9:30am. A nice selection of yogurts, cereals, bread items, fruit, hard boiled eggs, juice. Also has one of those press a button, get a pancake machine. A couple of toasters, but they toast slowly. Fresh coffee is available at 7am, and Keurig machine is located in the lobby. The grounds are well maintained with beautiful flowers and greenery out front. The rooms all have chairs so you can sit outside with a pool in the center of property. A good idea for the Commodore would be to install a clothes drying rack in front of the rooms since everyone uses the chairs to hang wet bathing suits, towels, etc.. could make things more convenient and look neater. The rooms were nicely updated. The bathroom in our room (125) was very small, but luckily the sink is outside. The toilet/bathtub area's door barely clears the toilet so it feels a bit small - especially if its more than 2 in a room. The in the wall AC worked well, and the white noise it generates help to block outside noise. There was an issue about drinking your own alcohol you brought in since they now have a liquor license. There was sign in the room that your own alcohol could not be consumed anywhere on the grounds. I never heard of this before, but Massachusetts has strange liquor laws so something you may want to keep in mind. I like they have free to borrow beach chairs and beach carts for bringing stuff to the beach - so no need to pay the $20 parking fee to bring a car to the super close beach. Shuffleboard and cornhole games are on the grounds. Harwich is a nice, family friendly town with some nice places to eat nearby, or a short drive to other parts of the Cape. A good place to stay especially if beach accessibility is your thing!

The view is magical and always love the in-bloom hydrangeas. Truly reminds you that you are on Cape Cod. Just be ready for a hefty bill.

Unfortunately, the inn recently changed hands and is no longer the warm, lovely, welcoming place that we knew. The first bad omen came at check-in when my husband inquired about the breakfast schedule and was told, "we're no longer serving breakfast because the kitchen is under renovation, but there are plenty of places in town where you can buy it." When I responded that the inn had always served breakfast, had advertised it, and that we were expecting it, the receptionist replied that the new owners had taken this amenity off the official website, and management was WORKING ON getting it removed from all other booking websites. Never were the words, "sorry" or "reimburse" uttered. When we arrived at our room in the carriage house, we found a dark, dingy, shabby room. Two of the three ceiling lights were out, making it impossible to read in the room. Moreover, there was no telephone to reach the front desk in the main inn, no instructions on how to use the TV, so we could not figure out how to get it to keep a signal, and absolutely no amenities that one would expect in a room that cost $2047.79 for three nights - not even a bottle of water. On top of that, we had to walk over bird feces covering the steps into our room, and the carpet was disgustingly filthy looking, with huge, dark stains all over it. The thought of getting up in the middle of the night barefoot and walking on such a carpet is disgusting (not to mention unhealthy, with bird feces tracked in on our shoes). When my husband took the ice bucket to the main building to get ice, the manager informed him that the ice machine was broken. Again, no word of apology. When he told her about the bird feces all over the steps, she replied,"we can't control the birds." Apparently, she never heard of using a hose and perhaps a brush. The manager's defensive, combative attitude was the last straw. When my husband expressed his frustration about all the problems with the room and her lack of interest in addressing any of our concerns, the manager told him that that if he didn't like it, he could leave. He said he might take her up on that, but he would want all his money back if we left. Shortly thereafter, the manager showed up at our room ostensibly to demonstrate how to work the TV (and probably to show that my husband was an idiot for not knowing how to manipulate the two remote controls for an unfamiliar TV). Since the manager was in our room, I pointed out the stains all over the carpet. She claimed that it had been cleaned. When I said that I could not believe anyone would pay for such poor work, she told me that if I didn't like it, I should call the carpet cleaning company! What!!! I told her that they had obviously opened too soon and were definitely not ready to handle guests. Fortunately, we were able to find wonderful lodging elsewhere in town and left. True to her word, the manager did refund our $2047.79.

The bedroom features an oversized California King bed, a desk and chair, television and lounge chair with ottoman. Beautiful French double doors lead to one of the loveliest features of the room which is a private deck with chairs. The living room has a delightful fireplace, comfortable sofa and another television. There is also a tastefuly done little kitchenette which was stocked with dishes and glassware as well as a mini fridge. And off the living room is the attractive bathroom stocked with toiletries and comfortable robes. Right outside our room was a Flavia coffee and tea maker as well as another refrigerator with complimentary creamer, soda and bottled water. The table in our bedroom also had a complimentary decanter of sherry and two scrumptious chocolate truffles were left on our pillows each evening. Although most of the inn's rooms are in a separate building a few steps away, breakfast is served each morning in the main house and in the company of Harrison, the inn's resident and well behaved Labradoodle. An afternoon sweet treat of cake or cookies is also provided in the main house and there's always a bowl of chocolates if you need a sweet to tide you over. We had the bad luck to not have the inn-keepers, Donna and Byron, in residence during most of our stay as they'd suffered a death in the family and were out of state. However, they'd left clear instruction with their staff about our arrival and we were warmly greeted and welcomed. During our stay, the staff was quick to answer questions about the area and to provide restaurant recommendations. The room itself also contained a lot of information about local attractions and restaurants. The night before our last day we came back to our room to find a complimentary bottle of champagne and note from the innkeepers with their sincere regrets for having been away during our stay. That was a very nice touch and was greatly appreciated. On the down side, we actually didn't think much of the breakfasts as they were largely flavorless and frequently included microwaved bacon. We wondered if the food suffered due to Donna's absence because she was billed as the cook. Both Donna and Byron were back on our last morning and it was Donna who prepared our breakfast that day. The food did improve under her stewardship but we'd still say it compared poorly to other B&B's we've visited. Our room, though lovely, did have some oddities. All the plumbing fixtures were installed backwards so that all handles turned in an atypical direction and the shower pipe was loose which restricted some of the water pressure. The impression was that the work had not been professionally done. In the bedroom, the bed was oddly situated with one side far too close to the wall despite more than ample room on the other side. It made it uncomfortable for the person sleeping on that side to get in and out of bed. Finally, we do have somewhat of a pet peeve with inn-keepers who advertise suites, which should be two separate rooms divided by a door, even though the room does not meet that criteria. In this case, the only separation between the bedroom and living room was a screen. Nevertheless, the inn was quite nice and Donna and Byron were charming hosts who had trained their staff well. Brewster is located mid-Cape and convenient for day trips to Hyannis and Provincetown which makes this a good choice for a place to stay and there are some lovely beaches right by the inn. Overall we enjoyed our stay on Cape Cod very much.

She even brought Keith a complimentary birthday toast, which was such a lovely touch. We started with the Crispy Point Judith Calamari, perfectly fried with bright pickled peppers and a great lemon aioli. So tasty. My husband had the Pan-Seared Cod Loin with Thai khao soi and soba noodles--he absolutely loved it. I ordered the Maine Lobster Ravioli with butternut squash purée and tarragon Newburg sauce, and it was rich, balanced, and delicious. A gorgeous setting, memorable dishes, and genuinely kind service. I spent a long weekend in the area this past weekend and came here twice. The first time was Friday…read moreafternoon just before 2 PM. My friend and I were there for drinks, but she ended up getting clam chowder before the kitchen closed for the afternoon. Unfortunately, it came out barely lukewarm. I assume they don't make the soup from scratch each bowl, so they really only needed to warm it up to the right temperature. The women's restroom only had 2 stalls and 2 sinks. One stall had no toilet paper and one sink had no soap. I get that the soap dispenser might be broken, but there's no reason to have no toilet paper when there were exactly 4 people standing around talking at the host stand... The table service from Karlo was attentive and polite. I went back with 3 others on Sunday as we had a brunch reservation for 10 AM. This was nothing short of a disaster. We got there on time and put in our orders quickly. The food (mostly consisting of various kinds of eggs, toast, avocados, and yogurt) took nearly an hour to come out. We asked twice and were told that the kitchen was backed up. They should have staggered reservations and seating if they couldn't accommodate a full restaurant near the time of opening. The rest of my day was rushed because I had to wait an hour for scrambled eggs and an english muffin. While the service was friendly, they even charged us for an iced tea refill and took the coffee cups away instead of offering more. If you're making us wait an hour for breakfast, maybe do a solid and offer a free refill of the non-alcoholic beverages. [Or even the alcoholic ones!] All in all, the service is decent and the view is great. The food and the wait leaves much to be desired. If I come back, it'll be drinks-only.
