Winter WONDER land!!! Union Square was ALIVE with the spirit of the holiday season! From music to shopping to food to local artists and retail, this was the place to be! two blocks of winter festivities. not really big but def a welcomed addition for the holidays! these two blocks are closed off to cars so it's easy for pedestrians to walk around and browse. there's a stage too with live music so sit down and take it slow and just hangout, if you have time. some booths for 2025: old navy with disney christmas clothes (pretty nice!), nintendo store free paper mario/luigi hats and TWO photo ops, small business craft vendors, food trucks. read more

Winter Walk (December 13-24) is located in Union Square on Stockton St. between Post & O'Farrell St. I wouldn't recommend driving here as traffic was terrible with cars honking everywhere. Luckily, our hotel was close by and we walked over. There are food trucks and live performances. Santa can also be found here as well as Mario. The event isn't big, but it's free. read more

Even on a rainy day, we enjoyed checking out the Winter Walk in Union Square. The holiday marketplace was set up indoors, so we were able to stay dry as we explored various vendor booths. I loved the vintage goods we found, and we also got ourselves some german chocolate henny parfaits from Nadine's Sweet Treats. We wiped down the tables when the rain stopped to enjoy mulled wine from one of the drink tents and some grub from Dominic's Food Truck (the filet mignon sliders and crab and shrimp sandwich were delicious), though there were several other appetizing Off the Grid food options available as well. We were there in the mid afternoon when live music was on hold due to the 49ers game (according to their website's listed schedule), but we did enjoy a bit a magic and goofy kid-friendly entertainment from Boswick the clown/juggler. Parking was pricey, but plenty of garages are available in Union Square, and at least the event was free. Overall we had a good time. read more

If you find yourself in or very near Union Square this holiday season, check out the Winter Walk in the heart of Union Square. In fact, if you're in Union Square, you can't miss it. The pedestrian-only walkway, stretches from Neiman Marcus/Louis Vuitton (on Geary Street), down to Market Street. At the Winter Walk, you'll find a couple of food trucks, along with various pop-ups, like Candytopia (no photo ops here, just their stall selling candy), a macaroon pop-up, and a BBQ food truck. I've visited here both during the afternoons, and in the evening. It's way more lively and fun in the evening, when all the pop-ups and food trucks are in full operation. I certainly wouldn't make a special trip to Winter Walk, as it's just a mere couple of blocks or so long. We were finished in about 15 minutes, but if you're nearby, it's still worth wandering through to get you into the holiday spirit in downtown San Francisco! read more

This is a great event but wasn't amazed with the overpriced food and drinks. I understand they have to cover all the needed fees and still make profit, but none of the foods blew me outta this world. They were just OK. Anywho, this was held in Union Square and closed down 2 blocks of O'Farrell street to accommodate the event. You can browse the variety of different food truck that was in there each day. Sip some alcoholic beverages limited only in the carpeted area in this event. There's some vendors and a lot of shoppers enjoying the nice weather walking and browsing this place. They also have a stage for performers for the public to enjoy live music. Kids and kids at heart also enjoyed and explored the ladder fire truck what was parked in the Maiden Ln. The only thing that kind of spoil this fun event is when rallying people started to overwhelm Union Square. They started doing colored smoke bombs and occupying the place. Now, I'm not one to be against this and fighting for what you believe in. Go on and do your thing, but there were families with little kids that were present in this event and trying to enjoy the festivities before the holiday. Anyway, there were tons of security and police presence here so it was a safe event for everyone. read more

It's the most WONDERFUL time of the year! San Francisco is beautiful during the winter time, especially near Union Square. One can easily find the Holiday Tree, the Ice Rink, and the Winter Walk, all within the same area. The Winter Walk offers something for the whole family; food trucks, children activities, Cabin Bar, Photobooths, and Candytopia. Off the Grid partners with Winter Walk to bring 4-5 delicious food trucks. This time, there was Capelo's Barbeque, Senor Sisig, and Jack Rabbit Kitchen and Bakery. It's a huge green open area for young kids to play and have a great time, and several areas to sit and eat. Conveniently located near the Powell Station. In my opinion, not much to see other than the food trucks, but if you're around the area you should check them out! read more

The Union Square area is probably at its best around the Holiday Season. You have to love the Tree, the Ice Rick, the Decorations, the Tourists and the decidedly (gasp) Manhattan feel at this time of Year. And much like dreary old Manhattan, the Subway System plays a staring role in our story tonight. Winter Walk exists because Stockton Street is torn up and this basically kills the shops with storefronts along this stretch. Why? Because of the coming soon T-Line which will run through Union Square to Chinatown, and eventually out to the Marina. This project has been years in the making. It's all part of the future design which will tie the entire Third Street Corridor north through basically everything. That will eventually encompass the new Warriors NBA Arena when the team relocates from Oakland in a couple of years. I love Urban Development and Public Transit as topics. Oh yeah... What is Winter Walk? Basically, the space above the construction is covered up and set aside for public use. This has been going on for a few years and it keeps improving each Winter. Now, there are quite a few Food Trucks and opportunities for fun. Do you seek this out? No. Just, be aware if you're passing through to a visit to Union Square, which, as I said earlier is awesome this time of year. read more

I stopped by Winter Walk during my lunch break after doing some last minute shopping in the area. I stopped by on Tuesday, December 20th around 1pm. I wanted to try a new truck, but I wasn't in the mood for Poke or Gravy, so I decided to get something from Sam's Chowder Mobile. I wanted something light, so the soup from this truck did the trick. For lunch I believe they had about 4-5 trucks, so I recall Senor Sisig, 808 Poke Shake, It's All Gravy, and maybe one other truck being there. It's nice having Winter Walk around during the holidays as I get a chance to try some new food trucks. I just wish they started earlier as we normally break for the holidays a couple days before Christmas. At least I got to try one new food truck! read more

This is definitely going to be something. I mean, right now it's *something* but not that kind of something you shout to tell all of your friends about. But the idea and the future of this are definitely something. What it is today, is a couple of blocks of traffic shut off, a whole lot of astro turf laid down, and a bunch of people wandering the area wondering exactly what's going on. Were there food trucks and things for people to eat, with some seating for people to sit at? You bet. Were there also a bunch of unlicensed people selling all kinds of cheap stuff? Yep. But unmistakably, you could tell that in a few years, with more planning and momentum, this will really be something. For now, it's worth the eerie novelty of walking up the road and being in the middle of where a normal road is and having the fake grass beneath you. And of course, a nice place for the food trucks to gather. In the future, though, it would be great to see this as a true winter walk. Maybe a winter market for local people to sell local gifts? Or more holiday stuff? I mean, look at Union Street and their holiday kickoff for shoppping--there were elves to hunt for, entertainers on the street, carriage rides, balloons and sweater parties and all kinds of revelers. You're on to something here. We'll see what it evolves into in the coming years. read more

A great go to place during the holiday season if you find yourself near Union Square. It's nice to walk around and relax in the middle of the street. A great opportunity to get away from the sidewalks to take photos. This past December, there were a lot of food trucks which hurt the feel a bit. There were lines to get food and very little space to sit around and relax. Hopefully, they can reduce the amount of food trucks and let it open up more. read more

Last year, the Central Subway construction shut down and astroturf was laid down to create this little holiday gem called Winter Walk. To not have the Central Subway madness, however temporary, is an unbelievable relief. But to transform the space into one of the better local uses of open space is even better. Stockton Street between Ellis and Geary makes up the Winter Walk. It's got astroturf, benches, food trucks, coffee, buskers and the Macy's SPCA kittens and puppies for adoption. They usually have some sort of entertainment every day. I enjoyed the carolers as they made me feel like it really was the holidays. Lots of weary holiday shoppers, tourist families and even locals on lunch breaks lounge around and are able to relax. They also have security to shoo out the bad behaviors and concierge people with British accents dressed in some sort of Tiny Tim/A Christmas Carol homage, to help guide lost tourists. There's nothing to criticize about this use of public space, except that it's temporary. Here's hoping the Winter Walk stays permanently. read more

I took some friends out here over the weekend. There was nothing remarkable to see. No extremely wonderful holiday lights... The only interesting bits of the winter walk were all the cute puppies and kitties displayed in the windows to encourage people to adopt them. read more

Lame. Walked through on a Saturday night and there is nothing but some random person blowing bubbles? What is this? Previous years have had bar pop-ups and food trucks. Don't bother this year. Nothing to see or eat or drink. Just watch dogs peeing in the fake grass. read more
