Went with a few folks to Winters on a Thursday night to experience a Chicahp Jazz speakeasy in Streeterville. The band was really good and we got seated right to the side of them making for an intimate vibe. I didn't care for the attitude of the hostess who kept coming to our tables telling us to "shush!" and wagging her fingers at us. Completely turned what was supposed to be a fun group experience into what felt like a detention hall where enjoyment was not allowed. Also I only ordered a ginger ale because I had an early morning but they chargex me $18 due to a one drink minimum and I didn't want a fruity mockail. I get it these are the rules but its not reasonable. Settling the tab was messy because it was all put on one bill and two people ordered a bottle of Champagne. Would have been prefered if they asked us of we wanted one ir separate tabs. Took almost 20min after the show to sort it out with everyone. A jazz artist I've listened to since college was doing a show here, which is how I learned there was a jazz club in Streeterville. It's easy to miss, but it's not the side of the building that faces the river and it's next door to the pizza place here. But having been there I'm hoping to come back again. The club is very intimate. By my loose count it probably only holds about 100 people, maybe 115. I'm not sure if there's a bad sightline in the place, though there are a few wide pillars so it's possible there's a spot that may be a bit more obscured. Initially I was going to choose a seat right by the stage; I was alone and thought I'd take a spot that wouldn't get in the way of folks... then I realized that I'd be fewer than two feet from the drummer, and also that I paid the same as everyone else in the place, so I chose a different spot a bit further away but that was pretty comfortable along the wall at one of the high-tops. Actually, next to a pillar, so I just kinda leaned into it and enjoyed the show. The sound was crystal clear. There's a drink minimum--I think it's one drink per person per show. They have a small lounge area that you can enjoy a drink prior to the show, but that doesn't count toward the minimum. I like that they have non-alcoholic cocktails as well, and not just one. There's no dedicated parking. I drove since I came on a Sunday and Metra runs much fewer trains, planning to use the valet that they mention on their website, but couldn't find a valet anywhere. Somehow I got extremely fortunate and nabbed a street spot right across from the riverwalk about as close as you could get to where the place is, so street parking is a (limited and unlikely) option. I think mostly you're going to rely on SpotHero if your drive, but public transportation and/or taxi isn't a bad idea. read more

Place had been on my list for a while. Went yesterday for the first time. It's not far from the river and kind of tucked away. Saw Thaddeus Tukes perform. There is a two drink minimum and if you don't drink alcohol it can be something non alcoholic. My tickets were VIP so was seated towards the front. The cocktail waitresses were nice and accommodating. There's no food that they serve but there are restaurants next door. They have a rule of no talking during the performance. Thaddeus Tukes is a talented vibraphonist and the other members of the quartet were also talented. They don't have a rule against people using their flash on phones for videos or photos and some people had their flash on which kinda rains on the vibe. read more

The lights are dimmed to add to the romantic vibe and the servers are quick to grab anything at the bar (1 purchase minimum per set). We loved the quartet that played that evening; the set lasted for about 1.5 hours. My only complaint was finding this place! The gps took us to target, and we had a hard time finding the basement entrance. It's much easier to find if you go through the riverwalk entrance. read more

This was our first time at Winter's and we will be back. We loved the quaint vibe and that it is a listening room vs people talking with music in the background. Our server was very attentive and the drinks were reasonably priced for Chicago. Try the French 77! The Nick Hempton quartet was fabulous. We liked that the show was earlier than some of the other clubs nearby. We went to the 9:30-10:45 PM show. They allowed people under 21 which was a bonus for traveling with our son. They don't serve food, so plan to eat before or after the show. General admission tickets were just fine. There really isn't a bad seat in the house because it's a small venue but there are a few large pillars that obstruct the view in a few spaces. If you decide to do VIP, there is a really nice row of seats in the back center that would make it worth it. Overall it was a great experience! read more

I frequent this establishment a few times a year to hear great jazz music. I was there on 2/21/26 to listen to Marquis Carroll. Because we arrived early, we were escorted to the bar where we could enjoy a drink before being seated for the show. I was never informed of $10 drink minimum once the show starts. Now mind you I've already ordered and consumed $30 worth of drinks waiting to be seated and even was allowed to take my freshly poured drink to my seat. Immediately my guest and I were asked by the waiter if I needed any drinks. I politely answered no not at this time due to the fresh drink sitting on the table. He came by periodically to check on us, but this time informed us of the $10 drink minimum. Without causing a scene I didn't respond. Prior to the show ending and presenting us with the bill, he indicated to us once again, are we okay with the $10 drink minimum. Once the show ended, I approached the manager to inquire about this issue. I would not have had an issue of paying the required drink minimum if this had of been told to me up front. Now I'm feeling racially discriminated against because I didn't hear the waiter mention this to anyone else seated in my area. The 2 sitting adjacent to us had only ordered 1 drink piece. And I've ordered several drinks including the ones from the bar area. I understand that Winter's is under new management (Mike) and perhaps this is something that should have been indicated prior to show time. He made a point to express that there shouldn't be any table chatter during the show etc.... He took my concern to heart but offered nothing else. Now I'm left with reconsidering an another venue for live jazz music. I'm hoping to hear more feedback from others who frequent this establishment. Great place, recommend you buy your tickets ahead of time. You can also sit at the bar and see a show for $7 rather than paying full price for a show. The sound is great, not over powering when you are around the stage. Drinks are good and service isn't bad. It's a full bar so you can get whatever you'd like. Definitely recommend buying tickets ahead of time to avoid a sold out show. We highly enjoyed it, but when it's time to get seated, it's best you wait in line rather than grabbing a drink first. They'll charge you if you're sitting at the bar and it's up to you to watch when they start seating, no one notifies you (even if they say they will). read more

We recently have visited this jazz club for a relaxing time to enjoy our evening. We were then rudely interrupted by the possible manager (a bald man, beard) that was sitting right by us telling us multiple times to be quiet even though we were whispering and being very polite. He said that we were being too loud, and making too much of a disruption. Mind you I could barely even hear my friend next to me... This man was watching us the entire time and every time I looked his way he was already staring at us. We were there to hear Patricia Barber--Chicago jazz legend, piano and vocal. The club space is comfortable yet intimate. Prices are fair and staff are helpful and efficient. Bravo Winter's Jazz Club!! I love every detail of this place. The location, talent and service are all perfect! Nestled along the river, the charm begins outside. You can park your boat and head on in. I love it. The pretty walkway connects you to a few restaurants you can enjoy before or after the show. You can enter the big building that houses many businesses from the street but I think it's much nicer to take a waterfront stroll on your way in. Once inside, this jewel box music venue is quaint and cozy. Through the big floor to ceiling windows, you face the river and twinkle lights shine all over the trees. There is a small bar and seating area where you can listen to the show without a ticket. The theater itself is intimate and comfortable. Exposed brick walls and the small stage make it feel very personal. I have attended shows where they have at least 15 musicians and they make it work. The staff is always fantastic. Scott and Lisa offer such personalized service. Thank you! The servers on the floor are always very sweet. They know how to assist during a live performance with ease. We caught the second set of the night when Abby Riccards performed with The Tim Fitzgerald Trio. The entertainment was amazing! They did an Aretha Franklin and Ray Charles tribute set. Service was fantastic! My husband and I both ordered off of the signature cocktail menu and they were delicious (and strong)! Had a fun night enjoying the beautiful music of Dee Alexander feat the Jeremy Kahn Quartet. It was my first time listening to jazz in Chicago and I wasn't disappointed. It was a nice intimate space where everyone had a mutual understanding of appreciating and respecting the artists. It felt very cozy and felt like a warm hug for my soul. The cover for GA is $25 and $37 for VIP seating which definitely gives you a better view. You can also sit at the bar for a significantly cheaper price but it is further away. Both GA and VIP require a purchase of a drink, which was honestly a great deal. All of the prices included tax, which the US really should do more often. I would definitely return for another nice relaxing evening filled with good vibes. read more

The service was decent, you do need to order a drink while you are there, it did take a long time to come to the table. But it was busy! I bought my tickets online, there were 2 prices, $40 for VIP and $30 for the rest. I purchased 4 VIP tickets. One of my party couldn't make it at the last minute. When we showed up, we were taken to the table next the lady checking us in, the furtherest table from the stage. VIP really. I could have bought bar tickets for $7 each with almost identical view. What a rip off. I had been to Winter's probably 4 or 5 times and always bought VIP tickets and was seated on the front row. I realize there are no assigned seats but buying VIP tickets previously I didn't realize they view any seat in the house as VIP so why pay more than regular. This ruined my night and customers I was taking for business. I won't be going again after this experience just beware of their system when purchasing tickets. read more

The venue only offers drinks, but there are restaurants near by if you want to have dinner before or after the show. Well I think everyone might know I'm a jazz aficionado and the Blue Note is my second home. So after a long exhausting day sightseeing we decided to end the day with cocktails and jazz. We came by this place by accident: we were riding the CTA #29 bus to Navy Pier and were not sure if we were going in the right direction. This very nice passenger, Kerry, assured us that we were. She was headed to her job as a bartender at the Winter's Jazz Club. She told us there was a great trio performing that night @7:30 and @6-7 there is a happy hour that offers 25% off all drinks. Thus, after a really windy visit to Navy Pier, (how windy? Let's just say the wind knocked off my ski hat and Fawn had to run fast before it blew right past the Centennial Wheel), we were ready for jazz and drinks. The club has a tricky entrance: you enter and walk down what looks like stairs to a basement and a wall that says River East then open door that says "Corridor" then walk past Robert's Pizza Dough take out window and voila you have arrived. The set up looks a bit like the Blue Note however swankier. There are small tables for those who order pizza from Roberts(only pizza is allowed to eat in club) and drinks as well as club main ticketed seating area. We had to show vaccination card and then we were seated at bar. No worries if you don't have tickets to the show: like the Blue Note you can sit at bar. However, the cover charge is $7 plus one drink($10); at BN it starts @$20 or more depending on the artist playing. The bar had a cozy and intimate vibe and if you sit in middle you can see as well as hear just fine. The bar has a marble counter and the most organized and clean mini fridges housing vodka, lemons and limes, etc. Kerry served me a great "French Martini" for my French 77 with a champagne kick, albeit not a pure French as I get as my regular cocktail but kicking. I also tried Virtue's Pear Cider. What's great about this place is the entire staff. owner and the great people of Chicago. All welcome out of towners with such warmth it's incredible. Sitting at the bar and talking and enjoying great jazz is all there is. We loved it so much we came back the next night. When I return to Chicago, Winter's Jazz Club is bookmarked as my go to jazz club. Shout out to Kerry! read more

We were visiting Chicago recently and wanted to find a jazz (not blues) place for an evening show. We hit the jackpot by finding Winter's...both because of the place itself and the fact that the Chicago Jazz Orchestra was playing. I won't repeat some of the comments others have made, but here are a few additional thoughts: - It wasn't as hard to find as others indicated...use the address though, and you will also see some signage down the block. - We got there 9pm for the 9:30pm show because we had read that we'd be able to get into the bar early and then get seated first. Well, maybe it was COVID, but that isn't how it worked. We simply lined up outside and waited for the prior show to end and for them to begin seating us. It was very efficient. And, the place is pretty small so you really don't have to worry about getting "the best seat". - We had General Admission seats and they provided our party of 4 a few different options...all seats are good (some poles do get in the way a little bit, but you should expect that at a small venue like this). - Service was excellent...and they kept refilling our water glasses too, which we liked. Bottom line: We would go back to Winter's in a minute...and probably will next time we visit Chicago! read more

We saw a weekday show here recently. To get to the club you go along the docks on the back side of the building, the entrance we used was not actually on N. McClurg Court. The music was wonderful and if you go to the first set you're welcome to stay for the second if you buy another drink. This is a no-conversation club which means no talking to distract from the show. Too bad it isn't also a no-cellphone club; a woman in front of us starting texting about 30 minutes into the set and a bright screen is really distracting when it's between you and the stage. read more
