DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY, if you can avoid it!!!!!!!! I firmly believe a requirement to be employed with Winthrop Fuel is to be classless, rude and not have a decent bone in your body! Sara is snotty, has the most condescending tone to her monotone voice and honestly couldn't care less about the customer, or maybe that's just how Winthrop Fuel is as a company. I would highly recommend Main Street Fuel, if they deliver in your area!! How does a company come out, right after you move in, top the tank off which was half full, I DID NOT request a fill, and right before Christmas they slap me with a $565 oil bill!! This company does not extend credit, which is bizarre because Main Street Fuel ALWAYS did, as long as you were a good paying customer, of which I am. I hate this company and I can't say enough bad things about the dink in the office! May I suggest having some compassion for the next guy, or maybe get out of the customer service business Sara, you don't have the personality for it!! I moved from Savannah, GA to Winthrop. Granted I was born here, but lived down south for 18 years, so I thought things were better than what I experienced today. I moved to my future brother in-laws 4 unit building. I applied for propane delivery with Winthrop fuel. They saw on my application that I was sisters with the landlords fiance and because they couldn't reach them both about unit C (I'm not in that unit, it's vacant), they called ME. I'VE NEVER EXPERIENCED SUCH UNROFESSIONALISM. They called me to get in touch with my sister to let her know unit C is "dangerously low" and they couldn't get in touch with the landlord or property manager (my sister, who is the second largest management company in the state). Regardless, why are you contacting a tenant to get in touch with the landlord or property manager when it's upon the account holder to maintain their fuel level?? There is no sub landlord account, so why are you targeting me? Sue was the most rudest person ice ever encountered over the phone. My fiance had to drop of physical paperwork to apply because maine has a technology problem, and when he did, he encountered the people problem. His own words, "I went there and the lady said, "while you're doing that I'm gonna do this...as another person interrupted her and said, no, you should help him and finish him up" seriously cannot be bothered to assist in person, or on the phone! But that's the thing, they called me to ask to get ahold of my sister about a tenant who moved because they can't connect with either of them. So I try to help and get the worst treatment by Sue and give up. There is no way someone from the South would tolerate these people. Very unprofessional company to deal with. I requested the company change out my old heating system for a new one. After a visit from Doug I waited for several weeks for a price. With no follow up I contacted the company and was told someone would get back in touch with me that day, of course we received no follow up. With that being said I called back, I did talk to someone who started pulling numbers out of the air. When I asked for a breakdown of the cost on paper he stated he was to busy and most likely wasn't interested.....What a complete waste of my time. I called today to have my furnace worked on. I was speaking with an extremely rude lady who asked who I had got my last oil delivery from? So I told her, and because it wasn't Winthrop Fuel her words "well have them work on your furnace then" I was shocked that a company would refuse work just because I didn't get my oil from them last. ( I did get it from them earlier in the year) Its America I price shop.... this would be like if the mechanic wouldn't work on my car because I got gas at the station down the road yesterday.....I would stay away from them, lots of other GOOD companies in Augusta area that care about their customers...STAY AWAY FROM WINTHROP FUEL read more

Requested that Winthrop Fuel move our Propane tank because we added a porch. "Doug" came over 4 hours late for an appointment we had called for 3 weeks ago. He did not apologize for being 4 hours late. He stated it would cost $750.00 to move the tank. We said thanks but no thanks. "Doug" then stated that everyone wants something for nothing. He went on to state that he is "vetting" customers and we are the kind of people his company doesn't want. He asked us when we moved to Maine from Massachusetts. Not sure what he means by this statement. We have lived in Maine all of our lives. Needless to say we are going with another company for our fuel needs. If you are from Massachusetts, know "Doug" from Winthrop Fuel does not want your business. read more

They have been great to work with. Winthrop Fuel installed some propane heaters in my home. The estimate visit was very prompt and courteous and my estimate was received within 1-2 business days. It took a couple of months before they could install the system, but I was not in a hurry. The called me a few days before installation. A pretty big crew arrived at my house and they were very professional. They wouldn't leave until I was familiar with the operation of the units, turning off the outdoor propane tank and knowing the smell of propane. The units were installed neatly and no mess or boxes were left behind. I highly recommend them. read more

This company has been very unsatisfactory to deal with over the years and, reading the other reviews, it's clear that there are some common threads with my experience. They are extremely inflexible concerning delivery and payment options-- to the point of rudeness. The young woman in the Gardiner office is brash, tactless, unwilling to compromise and amazingly quick to pass off the problem as the customer. The company-- which promotes itself as local and community-oriented-- now also charges an exorbitant fee to restart a burner (as much as the larger, less local fuel distributors): $45 for 10 minutes' worth of work and I doubt that money goes into the pocket of the worker. There are many choices of where to get fuel oil: don't choose this one. read more

After moving here in December 2016, I contacted several companies for new furnaces. Winthrop was very prompt in contacting me with a quote. They explained that propane was a better fuel for heating than oil or forced air. Not knowing much about this fuel, I took Winthrop's advice and decided to have them install the propane furnace and on demand water heater. The installation techs were excellent and very professional. But then the three blizzards hit in February 2017 and that is when the problems began. They first installed a 250 gal tank and 3 weeks later decided that it would be better to install a 500 gal tank due the extreme incline of the hill. I got charged for the additional fuel, when they should have installed the larger tank in the beginning. I am 65 ;and disabled, and when I called to tell them I was paying the $150 additional money, the girl was very brash, rude and threaten to have the tank removed if I did not come up with the money. Two weeks after that incident, I received a certified letter stating that they will no longer be servicing Jay. Very coincidental. Now I am in a freeze out due to the unavailability of getting fuel because Winthrop refuses to send the proper paper work to any other dealer to buy the tank. What ever you do - do not trust this company for your fuel dealer source. Now I must try and find a technician that will service the Veismann furnace they insisted that I install. And to this day, I have been unable to locate a repair technician. Fair warning to all - go elsewhere. read more
