Do not trust Google reviews for the Winthrop. I attempted to leave this review there and it disappeared (can't tell if it was part of Google's filtering algorithm or if the company had it removed). The apartment was fine until recently. Now management is forcing a new parking system on the residents that requires giving a lot of personal information to an external system, including a picture of your drivers license (this can be used to create new accounts in your name in the wrong hands). If you don't comply, your car will be towed by pollard's, which circles the place like a vulture. The garage isn't even safe anymore (having an enclosed garage was a huge reason that I moved here) since the door was damaged months ago and still hasn't been replaced. Southerly road is always filled with cars that are double parked since the apartment across the street doesn't have a dedicated driveway or move-in area. This place is amazing. Great amenities, great floor plans, extremely well-built, and run by world-class staff. The only downsides to this place are the lack of guess parking, no fan in the bedroom when you move in (you can get one installed easily though) and not that many Ethernet ports in the unit. Since living in The Winthrop over the past 4 years, the last year starting in January 2023 has been nothing but torment under the new management from being racially harassed by my above neighbor, car broken into, trash placed in front of my door by another neighbor and dogs allowed to poop in front of my balcony door. All incidents reported to management to no resolve or notice sent out to warn other residents. Instead, I was sent a letter stating I am the aggressor in an incident where I continually reported to management for a resolution and support. I feel it was easier for Bozzuto to label the black woman the aggressor versus holding the white male who harassed me for months and who stated management will not do anything to him, the white woman who allowed her dog to poop several times in front of my balcony, or the white male who put his bag of trash in front of my door accountable at all. I have tried 6 times requesting a follow up from corporate to no answer since February 1st. When the issues first begin to occur, I naively believed my concerns would be resolved based on Bozzuto values of "united in our mission to create sanctuary, we are focused on continually improving our Diversity, Equity and Inclusion efforts every day, fostering a culture of kindness and appreciation." Now, I realized that was all show to display values they do not hold as a standard when faced with documented complaints. At this point, I really like this nightmare of living at the Winthrop to end and I have learned a valuable lesson in following my first mind of calling the police and filing legal complaints in the beginning of February when it appeared the Winthrop management was not going to stop the harassment from a neighbor who just moved in over a 4-year tenant. read more

Edit: 11/1 We have officially moved out because we bought our own home. Since Chelsea became property manager, she took care of everything. She is a great manager and I hope she stays there for awhile. Chelsea reset the rules and made sure the building was secure. I would recommend anyone who needs a short term place to live in Towson. 6/23: I have lived in the Winthrop since three months opened. I have watched the building grow from not having anybody here to fully filled. I do love this building, but we have had a few issues. Management is always responsive and kind, but the problem is, there's not enough staff. They promised when they opened that they would get a doorman 24/7. They have not. There is a desk that is not used. Things get hectic on the weekends. I've seen children unsupervised in the common areas - which is NOT allowed (and written in the lease contract). Three children were downstairs one night at 11:30 pm. They were around the age of 8 and two boys were throwing rocks in the fountain. I was seriously afraid they'd break it. I told the leasing office, but they are not here after hours do not much they can do. People prop the front door open and I swear half the people using the amenities aren't living here. They say there's a security guard, but I really don't understand this. There are a lot of noise complaints here, but I won't say anything bad about that. Walls are soundproof. We live on the side of Dulaney. It is loud, but Winthrop walls actually help that! I do love our apartment size. I feel realitively safe here. There has been times though that a homeless guy came to sleep in the lobby. He said he was looking for a place. He wasn't. I was down there the entire time he was there - slept, used the restroom and walked out. That's probably the worst I've seen, but the leasing office was open at the time so I think they would've kicked him out if anything went wrong (safety reasons). I love the amenities but as my husband calls it, there are tragedy of the commons. People leave trash in the halls on the weekends. I'm afraid of bugs/rodents coming. We did have an ant issue but it was resolved. The good thing is in the common areas, they clean it every day. The cleaning staff is friendly too and they always say hi. We have had a few appliances break. We contacted the leasing office and they were replaced the next business day (although I did freak out when we almost had a flood from our washer breaking in the middle of the night but my husband dealt with the water). It's expensive here, but you get what you pay for - you pay for the area. You won't find a place much cheaper and I do love the staff here. Even when staff is replaced, they're always nice. I just wish they hired more staff (i.e. Doorman/security staff). I would recommend this building, but not long term. Maybe for a year or two until you plan on buying a house (which we will be buying when we move out). It's a lovely area and close to shopping! I can walk to work which is why we moved here. I have lived at The Winthrop Apartments for nearly two-years and the experience has been outstanding. The Winthrop is conveniently located off the beltway and walking distance to shopping and restaurants. The community is quiet and has lots of community space, dog runs, walking trails and a newly renovated dog wash!!! The Winthrop offers resident events throughout the year. The property is well-managed and requests for service are handled quickly. The very best thing The Winthrop has to offer is its staff. From the day we moved in, the entire staff has welcomed us and greets us by name... dogs included!! Office staff and management responds to inquiries in a timely manner, proactively communicates with residents and provides assistance without hesitation. Very elegant ambience in a secure building, with a great heated pool. However, it seems in contrast to where I chose to live in a couple ways: At the Winthrop, you get huge kitchens and bathrooms, but small-to-non existent living areas. Your either use a bedroom as a living room, or forego a dining room. I like having a distinctly separately living vs dining area, if I can't have truly separate rooms. Sure, you can squeeze them both into the space, but that creates a cramped feeling, given the size. And the bedrooms are quite small. I could not live there with my bedroom furniture nor my dining room table. I viewed a number of their floor plans, and while I'm tempted to consider this location, because of its lighter colors and more refined sensibilities in the community areas, I really feel a better quality of life with an expansive view and this location is in more of a valley slope, so the views are definitely not elevated, like the hi-rise where I currently live. My bedrooms are large, master is huge. Separate dining area keeps food off your mind while in the living room. Bathrooms here are tiny, but water pressure is the bomb. So I will forgo the more elegant ambience of Winthrop for a hi-rise view, huge master bedroom, and walkscore of 100. read more

These are great apartments in a great area. I've been at the Winthrop for just over month and the grand opening is just about to happen. The staff is great. I haven't had any real trouble, but even for simple things the office staff are always friendly and quick to respond to any questions. Even with just opening and with limited tenants they have had a constant agenda of things to do. The trivia was a lot of fun! WARNING: Stay away from the Winthrop, or any Bozzuto property. They have a predatory clause in their lease where, if you do not give them a 60-day notice that you are vacating the property, not only are you obligated to pay the rent for that time period, but they will also increase that amount to the month-to-month rate. My typical rent for my 2-bedroom was ~$2000/month, when they called me asking if I was leaving the property on the last day of my lease, they told me I was responsible for the next 60 days at ~$3500/month. Typically, notifying the leasing office that you are vacating is normal, but no one had reached out to me in regard to this. Their response as a "luxury" apartment complex was "we are not obligated to send you an email or call you, since it is in the lease" -- I found this especially insulting considering the fake guise of service they claim to uphold, when they did not even have the decency to reach out to me about this, especially during financially unstable and busy times (due to COVID-19, of course) TLRD: The Winthrop/Bozzuto uses predatory business practices with mediocre service read more

So I had a mold issue back in October that ruined everything I owned. It turned out the air filter had not been replaced in my AC unit in a long time, which was causing moisture to get thrown out into the air causing everything to become damp, therefore making my belongings the perfect feeding ground for mold. I contacted my renters insurance and the property manager refused to tell the insurance that it was caused by the HVAC system, which means the insurance is not covering my stuff. We came up with an agreement before I was aware of the insurance denial for them to replace some of my furniture and pay for my clothing to be dry cleaned. It is going on 4 months now and I am still out almost $6000. Their lawyer got involved in writing up the paperwork to settle all of this, however, they will not respond to my attorney. This has been a big inconvenience to say the least: going through moldy stuff when I have asthma, packing up all of my clothes to take to the dry cleaner, paying for all of this to be done out of pocket, etc. I would think after all I had to do myself they would be trying to help me out with this, but we can't even get a response from their attorney. It seems to me like they kind of forgot about it and brushed it under the rug. I will try to keep this post updated on what happens next. read more

Was turned away 5 minutes into a showing that I rushed from work to be on time for. All because our dog (a sweet Great Pyrenees mix) is on the "restricted breeds" list. These dogs are incredibly sweet and loveable. I find it utterly ridiculous that such a breed is restricted. I spoke to an agent at least 12 times through emails and never once did she ask if we have a dog and what type, if that meant instant refusal. To shake hands and turn two prospective renters away for that reason is very unprofessional. I wouldn't want to live in a place that treats people and their beloved dogs this way. read more

I love living at the Winthrop! I was nervous about my move to Maryland from Florida but Angela and the entire staff were so great during my transition! From the initial tour to preparing for move-in day, she was there to help me with everything from taking my frantic phone calls and taking measurements to make sure my furniture would fit to helping me find things to do in town after I settled in. There are always fun resident events happening to help you make friends and just escape from the usual workweek boring nights. Most residents are professionals and/or young families so there aren't college kids running around at all hours of the night. The amenities are great and I feel like the residents all take pride in the shared space which is nice! If you are looking for some where to live in Towson, the Winthrop is definitely a great choice! read more

My roommate and I were one of the first tenants in the Winthrop and lived there for two years. What started out as an amazing experience ended as a nightmare. When we first moved in, the management staff was attentive, professional, and friendly. Staff knew your name and developed relationships with the tenants. When the original property manager, Jeff, left after the first year it started a cascade of entrances and exits that worsened the community. In the last year of living there, there have been 3 property managers, 3 assistant managers, and more leasing agents than I can count. As more and more new faces filed in, not only was the sense of community lost, but no one seemed to know anything. Responses to concerns and questions came in slower and slower until they were either not returned, or when returned, were extremely rude and unprofessional. The complex is beautiful, the amenities are great, and the events that The Winthrop holds are top notch, however with all of the negative experiences (listed below) it is simply not worth the price. Noise: As many previous tenants have mentioned before, the wall are very thin and noise can be an issue. Fortunately for us, we had respectable neighbors and an apartment not near any common areas (pool, zen garden). I will say that if you are planning to live with a roommate please consider that noise travels within the apartment horribly. Common areas within the apartment are impossible to use if someone is sleeping/studying and even when both bedroom doors are shut you can still hear each other. Rodents: During our last month of living at the Winthrop we had mice. A pest control service routinely came to "treat" the apartments for preventative service but nonetheless the mice made their way in. When we first noticed the droppings/chew marks we informed management and they responded quickly with ineffective sticky traps. I understand that rodents and pests can be a part of apartment living but when you are paying for a luxury apartment it shouldn't be an expectation. As of our departure, I was still finding droppings. Security Deposit: My roommate and I, both nurses, received a proffered employee discounted security deposit when we signed our lease. Little did we know, we would end up paying for this discount in the end. The carpets in the apartment are clearly a place where Bozzuto tries to cut costs, as they are are thin and stain extremely easily. They are placed down with nail strips because they were always intended to be replaced between residents. After two years (even with a Dyson vacuum) the carpets, of course, are going to need to be replaced. Additionally, when we moved in everyone boasted about how wonderful it is that at The Winthrop you can truly customize your living space. Have a ceiling fan? We'll install it for you! Want shelves in the laundry closet? We'll install those too! Want to paint? Go ahead! Paint it whatever color, you don't even have to paint it back when you move out. We were comfortable enough in the sense of community that was created to not have any of this in writing. After moving out in June, we are now being charge for painting and carpet replacement to the tune of $800. The only word that I can think of is sleezy when I think about The Winthrop. I have rented in 4 other communities and have never had such an experience. Management Turnover: See Above Two years ago, I never thought I would be leaving a review that was less than five stars. We love it here so far! The staff is friendly, the property is beautiful (well was but still can be) and we feel at home. More specifically, LaTarsha and Chelsea have been very personable, professional and timely throughout the whole leasing process. The building, only 3 years old has been beat up by the residents and from what we understand they are addressing some small eye sores i.e. the hall carpets are in need of replacement, walls need painting, common area(s) furniture could use a steam cleaning. Our neighbors above us are night owls but construction seems really strong so I hear them walking around but nothing over the top. It's an apartment so hearing your neighbors should be expected. I will say this, people drive WAY to fast and aggressively in this garage and the Southerly. I'm looking forward to them implementing the plan they have in place come spring. Beautiful modern building with TONS of amenities and a great staff!

The apartment itself was very nice, but don't let this fool you. The management on the other hand could not be much worse. I lived there for 2 years and the turnover in the front office alone was a sign of how poorly run this building is. There was always someone new working who obviously did not get any training. Also, don't ever expect to get a returned email or phone call in a timely manner. I'm talking weeks just to answer a simple question. We also had mice in our apartment, which apparently allowed the maintence men to come in and out of our apartment as they pleased without any notice. I have no idea how I lasted 2 years. I will NEVER rent from Bozzuto again!! read more

I was here for an event Sunday March 18th, and I must say: Windrop is absolutely beautiful, nice interior design.

I lived in The Winthrop for two years and although the rent was higher at first things were ok. After the first year the rent went up and it wasn't worth moving. Things were still ok but honestly if moving weren't such a hassle I would've started looking around. The best thing about the place was the covered garage, but the supposed restricted entry wasn't real because the service doors were nearly always propped open, and residents seemed very transient. What really pushed me over the edge was a huge rent increase in the third year, so I shopped around and decided to move. Their huge move out checklist included potential charges for numerous charges illegal under state law-things that would be considered normal wear and tear. That plus the extremely high rent gives you an idea of the lack of value for money you can expect here. I do not recommend renting here and am happy to put it behind me. read more

I just want to write this review to commend the staff. No matter how nice and shiny and new a building is, it can be ruined by a bad staff. (My family has experienced this in the past). I'm really thankful for the professionalism, care and friendliness the staff has shown. They are very accommodating within the confines of the guidelines that are put in place and they have been very helpful in enforcing rules that, if not enforced, bring the quality of life way down around here. It's definitely a nice property and nice apartments. The common areas are very nice and well-maintained. My only complaint is the "free month" of rent they offer on their website. Good luck actually ever getting it. It's such a bait and switch. I've had four different employees tell me four different ways to get it. They just keep changing the stipulations so they can keep enticing people with it but then not actually give it out. read more
