My eye doctor was kind and very helpful. However, the staff at the counter took my insurance plan card and scanned it, I had my appointment, and then I was told they don't carry my insurance and I had to pay out of pocket. It was a very upsetting experience. read more

I bought a pair of glasses after my exam last year. The frames were in a case marked down, but the frames were NOT marked down. This summer the ear piece became detached and I took it in to be repaired. The piece had come UNGLUED--enough said about quality of the frames. The clerk declined to send them into the company for repair, and said I could buy a replacement repair at full cost. He did glue the eyepiece onto the hinge, but told me not to bend the earpiece to put in the case--it would come unglued again. Very disappointed they did not stand behind their merchandise, or offer a more reasonable option to replace this frame with a better made one. read more

I was told by staff I didn't have vision insurance. I went home and purchased a policy. I came back and was told I had vision insurance. My prescription sunglasses were purchased in early May and just came in today. That's almost two months. I was told they didn't pass a test. Stay Away. They are too expensive and unable to find your insurance policy. I won't be going back. read more

Rude customer service. They made a mistake and did not put the bifocal in the left lens. I did not notice until over a year later because of issues with that eye. Only have 60 days to notice their mistake so have to pay for it to be corrected. The issue is more how they treated me about this issue, Courtney was very rude and condescending. My vision was great!!! I bought safety glasses with bi-focals for work; they do direct billing with my company. The sales person was outstanding; she guided me to a great pair of glasses that are so comfortable that I am using them for everyday use. I also priced some sunglasses with bi-focals; I am getting a high quality pair of glasses for half of what you see at a Sunglass Hut or even online. Simple insurance from one of the largest companies in the world. The front office employees are the most incompetent people I have ever met in my life. This year, when the frames came in the size or color I wanted (not both), they special ordered the frames I wanted. The people at this store are exceptionally helpful. I have not ever even been in the store, and still, I was impressed. I emailed on the slim chance that they might be willing to fix my glasses - I had stepped on them and the stems were totally bent way out to the sides. I had never been a customer, and so didn't expect much. Within twenty minutes, I had a voice message from them, saying to just drive up and they would run out to collect the glasses to see what could be done (I had told them that I am not yet going into any shops). I called when I got there, someone came out to greet me immediately, I waited in my car, and fifteen minutes later my glasses were fixed. No charge. I think they need to be applauded for their prompt, safe help. read more

I wish that I could give this location a review lower than one star. Dr. Sara Winkler should be avoided at all costs. Not only did she provide a misdiagnosis on my son, she was very rude and had no customer friendly service. My son needed a specific exam for his entrance into the Navy as a requirement of his College Scholarship and the information that we were given was very specific that his eyes would be dilated during the exam. We waited for over 20 minutes and he was in and out of the room in 4-5 minutes. I asked questions, Dr. Winkler brushed me off, saying HEPA wouldn't allow her to share information. He is a minor, so that was not true as I am the parent. Secondly, she never dilated his eye, and i questioned her about that and she replied it wasn't necessary. Again, the instructions from DODMERB, specify this to be necessary. Thirdly, the experts at DODMERB said this exam should have lasted 20 minutes. A month later her report states that he has reoccurring vertical diplopia (double vision). Not the case at all, and i will try to keep this short as I explain. Keep in mind, we are dealing with government. Dr. Winkler misdiagnosis, started in March of 2015 and we finally have an Opthomologist's intensive exam that was done in Chicago, which is DODMERB's requested location and my son's visions is PERFECT! It is now 5 months later and we are still dealing with this hack of a Doctor's carelessness. Secondly, diplopia diagnosis requires the dilation of the eyes, which never happened. This Doctor, put a $150,000 college scholarship in jeopardy (we are still waiting on the final approval) because of her carelessness, ineptitude and misdiagnosis. I had a wonderful experience at Wisconsin Vision! After having gone to various optical shops, I knew there had to be something better and, through google search found Wisconsin Vision. On their website, you can upload a photo of yourself from your own files to 'try on' glasses before you go to the store. I went in with a couple of ideas for what I wanted and Shawn found the glasses I eventually purchased! That's how good he is. Shawn is friendly, very professional and knows his stuff. I had limited contact with other staff, but they were also very helpful and professional. read more

Time to get this more current. I bought prescription glasses here in January 2017, then yesterday May 2018. Service is consistently great--helpful, thoughtful, responsive with no rush or pressure. Shawn took great care of me yesterday. They have a great selection of name & designer brands, and run-o-the-mill eyewear. I cannot comment on actual eye exams. Discounts available; prices reasonable. I have never been more disappointed in a company after reading reviews - than I have been with Wisconsin Vision. It started out fine (a little disappointed when told they didn't have a type of frame I was looking for - only to find out later they did). Bought two pair - regular and sun glasses. Got both pair within a week and a half. After a week I came back to the store (on a Friday) and told them I was not comfortable with the fit-style - just did not like anything about the sun glasses and ask for a refund. I was told there was no problem - they took the sun glasses and told me the person who would handle that was not in and would call me Saturday morning to take care it. I wound up calling Saturday afternoon and was told they don't do refunds - when I told them I have transitions lens and don't need the sun glasses - I was told it doesn't matter they don't give refunds - I would have to come and pick out something else. I asked "Don't believe in customer satisfaction?" the person I was talking actually said "no". Wanted to file a complaint on the Better Business Bureau, but par for the course - Wisconsin Vision - is not accredited with BBB. Wish I would have read these reviews about Wisconsin Vision (Madison west side) before doing business there. I, too, had a terrible experience...which is disappointing since I had a great experience at the east side location a few years ago. Lots of frames to choose from, but that's the only positive at the Odana Rd. store. Sales woman kept following me around store "helping" me pick frames. Told her I'd like to look around and would let her know when ready for assistance. Instead, she kept gathering hand-fulls of frames for me to try. After the third interruption, I again told her I'd let her know when I was ready. She continued to bother me with frames that were obviously way too big/chunky/wrong color for my face. Next step was ordering. When I asked about lens material, price differences and what the differences were between lens materials, she couldn't tell me. Had no clue. Didn't have samples and couldn't tell me what the benefits of each were. Kept trying to steer me toward high price lenses. Picked up glasses and the entire right lens (progressive lenses) was blurry. Turns out the sales woman measured me wrong, so focus spot on lens was off. Then to "correct" it, this second sales woman starts the first of multiple bendings to my new frames at the nosepiece to curve the frames in and out. After that made things worse, she corrected the measurement and claimed they would send the glasses back in for new lenses. I came back later to pick them up...same problem. The staff had no other solutions to offer, so I now have glasses with frames bent out of whack and that still are not in focus for reading. I found the staff to be unprofessional, not trained properly, and were clueless about sales tactics. read more

Shawn was wonderful. Very helpful. I saw the other staff being very informative and helpful too. No pressure. Shawn took the time to go over all the discounts available to me and find the cheapest route. He helped me pick out glasses and was very honest and patient with me. I had a prescription from another optometrist and he had it faxed to the store. So helpful. I was misquoted, and I asked on at least THREE occasions how much my TOTAL would be with my insurance type for exam and glasses. I get there to pick up my frames and it went up by $70.00. There are many good things about this store. Great selection of frames, friendly generally attentive staff. And they are locally owned and operated. The negatives are inconvenient business hours, poor parking availability due to having only a small shared parking lot and long turn around time for glasses orders. I recently had a poor experience with their service. The phone number that they had on file for me was no longer valid. I had on three occasions over the last 18 months given them a valid Phone number but they failed to update their system. I have had a significant change in my RX and went to WI Vision to order new glasses. When the order was placed they told me the glasses would take at least 2 weeks to come in. When nearly 3 weeks had passed and I had heard nothing I finally called them. It turned out that my glasses arrived 2 DAYS after I ordered them. Because they had not updated their records they called the old phone they had on file and learning it was disconnected made no other attempts to contact me. When I called, the associate I spoke to thought the situation was funny and was not the least bit apologetic even when I pointed out that the order documents clearly showed that I had given them a corrected phone number. and that the error was theirs. When I went in to pick up my glasses I discovered that they had STILL not corrected my phone number on their system. As a result of this bad experience I will not use WI Vision again. read more

I went to Wisconsin Vision for my first pair of glasses, a very weak prescription that would assist in the once-in-a-while occasion of nighttime driving. Their expensive prices gave me the impression that I could get a high-quality pair of glasses, something that would last me a very long time, given how rarely I use them. That couldn't be more wrong. After the initial hassle of getting the right prescription in the glasses (it took them a week because they scratched the lens that had the correct prescription during the replacement process), they lasted barely a year before the lens coating cracked. It looked very much like a large fingerprint and it had the effect of amplifying the glare from headlights and streetlights, making driving more dangerous with them on than with them off. I brought them in for repair and they repaired them for free, but they told me to be more careful when I cleaned them (which I rarely had to do because they were used so little) thinking that was the cause. It wasn't long after that that they cracked a second time, both lenses. I brought them in for repair again, and they had no idea as to what would cause the cracking given that I had followed every precaution in care and maintenance after the first repair. So they repaired them again. The third time one of the lenses cracked almost instantly. That time around they blamed me for keeping the glasses, a pair of driving glasses, in my car. It was the heat that was causing it, they said. Even when I explained that my car is kept in a cold garage underneath my house in a hard case in my center console, they maintained that my car was the reason the lenses were cracking. Never mind that only one lens cracked, and both lenses, of course, were stored under the exact same conditions. They blamed the issues with the defective lenses on me, yet they continuously repaired them for free. Why would they do that unless they knew they kept giving me defective lenses? The final straw came during the third repair. They made two gouges in the frames and failed to properly attach one of the lenses. Every time I had to have the glasses repaired, it was a 40 mile round-trip drive to and from the establishment. I had to wait several days for the repair and then I had another 40 mile round-trip drive to pick them up. For all the time the glasses spent being repaired, I would have really been out of luck had I actually needed glasses for my daily routine. I was done, so I returned the glasses, making it clear that I required a refund. It took them a week to tell me that they didn't want to give me a refund. Instead I could get 50% off a new pair. I can't emphasize this enough: after giving me defective lens after defective lens over the course of a year and blaming me for their problems, they ruined my $238 pair of lightly-used glasses and they want me to pay for a new pair. Their excuse for denying me a refund is that I had the glasses for two years (of course they don't consider how rarely the glasses were used and they choose to count the year I spent constantly bringing them in for repairs, foolishly trusting that they would eventually fix the problem). But I fail to see how the product's time in my possession has anything to do with the fact that in the end they are entirely responsible for ruining my glasses during their final, botched repair job. To add to the ludicrousness of this situation, we didn't just talk to the branch manager about this, we didn't just talk to her supervisor at the corporate office, we ended up talking to the CEO of Wisconsin Vision who personally feels that 50% off a new pair of glasses is somehow a generous offer that I should be thankful for. It's clear that poor business practices and poor customer service permeate from the highest levels of this company, a company I can say, with certainty, has been the worst company I've ever had the displeasure of dealing with. read more
