Before my appointment, I called and asked the front desk exactly what I should bring. I was told not to worry about it that the attorney would let me know what was needed. I followed that guidance and arrived ready to listen and learn. Instead, I was met with hostility. The attorney was condescending from the moment I sat down, treating me as though I had done something wrong by not having documents , documents her own office told me not to bring. When I explained the miscommunication, she told me she "knows red flags when she sees them" and suggested I find someone else because "there's a lawyer on every corner." As I was leaving, she informed me the consultation would be $450. No fee had been discussed when I made the appointment. No rate was mentioned at the start of the meeting. No engagement letter was signed. The number appeared for the first time as I walked out the door. She then rescinded it and told me to keep my money. I wasn't looking for sympathy. I was looking for a professional who could help me honor my mother's wishes and take care of my family. I hope no one else in grief has to experience what I did here.

I had full access to my file and could see pleadings and documents as they were added, so I never felt in the dark. Before court, I received a detailed letter explaining what to expect and how to prepare, which made the process far less stressful. As for communication, I followed the firm's instructions. When I wanted to speak with my attorney, I scheduled a call using the provided system--and I received the call exactly when scheduled. That process worked as explained. Pricing was also clearly laid out in the client fee agreement. The reality is that legal advice takes time, and time is what you're paying for. The firm then proceeded to stretch the case out across multiple needless additional court visits over the course of a year for the sole purpose of racking up billable hours and "negotiating" with the other party and their attorney along the way, all while keeping the case away from the judge and out of a hearing because it would've easily and mercifully have ended should that happen. We began to suspect the attorney was mishandling our case and got to the point we felt continuing to use him was actively sabotaging our chances at the proper outcome. In effort to protect ourselves, we later had our case reviewed by another attorney who explicitly told us based on this firm's handling of our case, that's exactly what was happening. Communication was poor and at times outright callous, and at no point did I or my family ever feel this attorney or his firm were looking out for anyone other than themselves and racking up as many billable hours as possible. This firm will rationalize it's attempts to charge hundreds of dollars for simple correspondence as well, from 5 minute phone calls they themselves initiate, to emails no longer than a few sentences and everything in between, so prospective clients beware.
