Before my appointment, I called and asked the front desk exactly what I should bring. I was told not to worry about it that the attorney would let me know what was needed. I followed that guidance and arrived ready to listen and learn. Instead, I was met with hostility. The attorney was condescending from the moment I sat down, treating me as though I had done something wrong by not having documents , documents her own office told me not to bring. When I explained the miscommunication, she told me she "knows red flags when she sees them" and suggested I find someone else because "there's a lawyer on every corner." As I was leaving, she informed me the consultation would be $450. No fee had been discussed when I made the appointment. No rate was mentioned at the start of the meeting. No engagement letter was signed. The number appeared for the first time as I walked out the door. She then rescinded it and told me to keep my money. I wasn't looking for sympathy.
