Upon bib pickup I learned that the rescue mission accepts donations, offers housing assistance, basic needs assistance and health services to at risk and homeless individuals and their families in Orange County. They also have onsite facilities for housing support, counseling, and educational opportunities. A great organization supporting so many in our community.

Kim the director I was fond of at first and then she switched, and called me a bathroom Nazi even though the bathrooms were at first assigned to certain rooms and someone kept wiping feces on the rug and walls, breaking the toilet seat and just not being mindful and I had an issue with it because they assigned me more often than not to clean the restroom nightly for my chore. told me i needed to get used to communal living. Then told me "no wonder why youre family doesnt want you around and why the father of your baby fights with you, you are a problem and no one wants you around. You make the women here uncomfortable." One thats wrong because i have mental health issues and thats discrimination and harmful and harassment. And two i was friends with everyone except for one black woman after she misconstrued my words about me telling her she needed to not tell this one woman what she should be doing with her money because she found it offensive then wanted to talk to house moms about it and asked me to come for moral support and I got bitched at for coming with her and got told to leave. Kept getting "x's" for apparently missing or being late to groups. When i wasnt. Id have to go in circles to have my case manager to look back at cameras and even then the house moms would take days to fix their mistake. That black woman as well kicked me in the back when i was cleaning air vent at bottom of stairs and i told staff (house moms) and they told me "accidents happen" They have on website that they help with transitional housing one in fact, the case manager told me that she could not help me with housing could only recommend places and aside from that they were shitty shelters that she recommended or that wouldn't accept me because of how far along I was in my pregnancy I was about five months at the time. The groups were fantastic though especially the art teacher. And i loved Jules (house mom) she was an angel. As well as Alexis (house mom) and Nurse Keri. One of The House Mom's Jackie walked away from me mid conversation after I was explaining to her that originally she told us that the dinner tour had to be done by 6:30 and then changed it last minute when I was already out out of the house getting pizza from somewhere and she said that she shouted it upstairs That I should've known, even though I wasn't there and it wasn't past curfew and she gave me an X for it. I brought it up to my case manager, and she told me basically that Jackie was pregnant and that I just needed to not mind how she was with her moods. Meanwhile, everybody else in the house was pregnant and not allowed to act like that. They have favorites with some of the women that go into the shelter and then other women they completely disregard and pushed the side and Try to always do things to make them feel less than and not help. Bring them up. You are also not allowed to get a job there until after three months of you being there but after three months, have you been there most of the time they kick you out and you do not get moved over to parenting and again they do not help with transitional housing so you basically have to figure out where to go or you're on the street. Luckily, I had some time to try to figure something out for myself, but aside from that this program is misleading and money hungry do not donate to here and do not go to their thrift store. You're basically funding people to get Harleys And nice clothes and cars, and not actually funding a foundation that is trying to help pregnant homeless women. I brought my uncle in for a last minute Saturday appointment because he was worried about some…read morebleeding in his eye after an injection. My sister usually takes him to his regular visits at this location, but this was my first time going with him and we were attended by Dr. Sieve. He took the time to explain why the bleeding might have occurred, compared last week's visit to today's and helped ease my uncle's concerns with a very thorough exam and explanation. We also appreciated that he made an effort to communicate in Spanish so my uncle could understand everything being discussed. Overall, we left feeling informed and well taken care of and the visit felt comfortable for both of us. It is reassuring to see that Serve the People has doctors who truly show up for their patients/families and experiences like this make a meaningful difference.

They like to pick and choose who can receive access to necessary social services, which is absolutely wild. Ive experienced this first hand with Erica Hernandez, who not only has a very unwelcoming energy, but would not give me access to any resources I could reach out to seek other types of necessary assistance. All this while recovering from a c section with three small children. She also threatened to keep me from ever being able to come back because I took too long to fill out her exit form. She wanted me out of the program so badly, she contacted me more to be exited than she did to help keep my kids under a roof. I hope God has Mercy on those type of people (who go into social work jobs with extremely low and nasty vibrations). You're a civil servant, take pride in ALL of your community. Thats all folks.

But McDonalds beats In n Out hands down when it comes to caring for sick children and their families. My Lion's Club chapter had the honor of cooking for 50 people here this week and I am the one who feels the benefit. Without going into the full history of this place, the brief story is that McDonalds donates a small hotel-like building walking distance from different children's hospitals. This one is next to Children's Hospital Orange County (CHOC). The donated structure is run like a no-charge hotel, with volunteers and a few staff members, for families to stay while their child is at CHOC. Families must submit an application, have financial need and, pending space (maybe a dozen rooms) can stay here up to a month before requesting an extension. Breakfast and dinner is cooked each day for families. The food and labor is provided by volunteer groups. Groups of friends, businesses, restaurants, service organizations, etc. sign up about three months in advance. The menus are pre-approved, the food must all be cooked on site, and volunteers must all be in good health. They provide a fully stocked kitchen and some permanent volunteers are on hand to provide guidance. We were able to sit and dine with the guests and hear their stories of heartbreak, perseverance and strength. Think about the triple whammy that these folks go through. First, their child is sick enough to need a specialized children's hospital. Next, it is far enough away from home that you need a hotel for the family. Lastly, you don't have the financial resources for both the medical care and housing. This place fills that need. The Ronald McDonald House is a God-send and McDonalds should be applauded for providing this type of low-key and vital assistance to the public. No Happy Meals are served here. No golden arches out front. No McDonald's advertisements, clowns or commercials blaring inside. Just good people caring for their kids and good people assisting the families. Very humbling.

Unfortunately, life tends to do a 180 and the best thing we can do is to help our fellow neighbors. I work for a very large company and they are constantly doing their best to help our fellow man. My company teamed up with a special company, but not because they have the Golden Arches or they make Hamburgers, but the foundation that we see, but ignore. Our Team is headed over to the Orange County Ronald McDonald House in the city of Orange. Located about two blocks north of W. La Veta Ave. on the east side of Batavia St., you will find the three story tall and world famous charity, Ronald McDonald House. While the name is associated with the Golden Arches, this is a separate entity and does not promote fast food and is not fully funded besides from the contributions of the local neighborhood. My employer is a large organization and they decided to spend some time helping families and their children that are going medical procedure at the local Children's Hospital of Orange County (CHOC). A few minutes or hours of our volunteer time are helpful to the families in need. Families can stay at the Ronald McDonald House with approved forms from their Physician for only $10 a day. The $10 covers the room, food, laundry, and many other activities. This place is essentially another home away from home. Some families are not fortunate to drive many miles away to leave their littles ones behind thus requesting the assistance of the Ronald McDonald House. This home is amazing. It is three floors of amenities for families just looking for a short place to stay. If I am not mistaken, there are 20 rooms for families to stay. There is a large kitchen for volunteers like my organization to prepare and cook meals for the day. Also, there are game/activity rooms for families to help ease some of the mindsets/emotions that they are going through. Heaven forbid you and/or your child has to go through this. Our organization signed up to prepare breakfast. The Ronald McDonald House has all the tools (i.e. knives, plates, utensils), but all we have to do is bring the ingredients and cook. We had the task of making breakfast burritos, eggs, waffles, sandwiches, and many other delicious. Food is what makes the journey memorable. Volunteering is a human characteristic that we all have done in one form or another. The greatest part of the whole experience wasn't just cooking, preparing, cleaning: It was the smiles and gratitude from the families who just wanted a hot meal. I used to go to the Golden Arches and see a Ronald McDonald House Donation Box at the window. After talking with the staff member, donations are low and are usually high during the Holiday Season. While we may see the Golden Arches being a name on the house, most of the staff are volunteering out of the kindness of their hearts and their wallets. There are many donors across many doors and hallways. Donors are the reason why the Ronald McDonald House continues to thrive. Everyday many families come through this house looking for a haven and as we may feel helpless, we have done the best we can to make their day better and better by passing it forward. This Yelp Voyage is my novel. I write to share the experience and for you to interpret it. My guidance is through you. It is BECAUSE of you that I want to recreate the same experience. I thought at first Noah was caring…read moreuntil I was trying to talk to him & he didn't look at me, but continued going through Xmas ornaments. I have three medical diets doctors placed me on. Out of 5 meals they served I was only able to eat rice at 1 meal. I was so hungry. I was very stearnly advised by a woman worker that I had to get a doctor's note & then they would make a special meal. I later found out from another worker that would be their "healthy meal" which was a soy burger, rice & veg. Soy is one of the things I absolutely can't have! They would not help me! My case worker who works somewhere else was going to try & help (Grace-bless her heart), but I had already decided to leave for another reason. I arrived late Fri night & went right to bed, left Sat morning to do errands & was on my bed the rest of the day. First thing Sun morning they put the entire shelter on lockdown due to someone testing positive for covid & some people were taken to a hotel for quarantine. That's all good, but there were people like me that just got there & had zero exposure. They weren't lifting the lockdown until afternoon Xmas. They could have had those vaccinated like me tested per CDC guidelines 5-7 days later & allowed us to go have Christmas with our families!! I left the place, know I don't have Covid but will get a rapid test done on Thurs to make my family feel safe. Never want to go back there!
