When I first got their I hated the place specially getting put on that bench for time out. It made me feel like a kid. I felt targeted each time I was in their. As time past by and I started attending groups, therapy and other different type of sessions and clinicals. I learned a lot about myself. You have to want tho make a change and be open minded. I graduated from Hope House in 1983. Prior to Hope House, I was homeless for over a year. My life was SHOT! And Hope House saved my life!! It was tough at times, but it was MUCH better than living under a bush in Santa Ana like I had been doing. I'm retired now, and have been clear and sober for over 40 years! Hope house is changing my husband's life. He had been other places but he has shared that he feels like this place genuinely cares about your rehabilitation and transition into society as a sober person. As a spouse to someone suffering, it's a difficult thing to go through - and some places can be really cold and unhelpful towards spouses who want to support the client. My husband has shared all amazing things about the different classes and groups they offer. I see the camaraderie amongst the men when I visit or drop something off, and can tell they all have each other's backs and want each other to succeed. I want to give a special shoutout to one of the therapists Jocelyn, who was a God send and provided us family counseling. She did her best to help save our marriage and help my husband to see my point of view as a sober person. I also would like to thank the staff Summer and Carol for constantly showing kindness towards us, and patience whenever I had any questions. Nothing is worse than someone being MEAN or rude on the phone when you are trying to gather information with your spouse at the facility! It's hard enough as is that you are going through this in your life. No one thinks of the spouses! These three were like a breath of fresh air for us after having a very negative experience at another rehab. We are so grateful and blessed for Hope House. I think it's funny all the people that have bad things to say about this place because they have no idea what they are talking about this is a good program if you are willing to change and be honest with your self and others all the negative comments no wonder you don't like the place you need to actually listen and put in the work to become a better person not just blame hope house because you couldn't handle being a respectful driven person that wants to better them self yes their are rules and a bench that if you don't follow their are consequences... just like anything in life So grow up and take a look at your self and stop blaming the staff they were very helpful and caring and helped me change my life I respect the staff and love all the things I have learned there read more

It was when my life was demolished by trauma and the subsequent alcohol abuse that I reached out. I needed answers and thought I was alone. Hope house provided amazing support in a safe, structured environment. This house is for those that need to find their way back, and have accepted that they are truly ready for a better life. Hope house tackles not just your addiction, but the phsycological reasoning behind it. I was surprised to see that the staff was Soo happy when I achieved milestones in my therapy and recovery. Hope House is a structured program for people that are READY and open to change, not for people looking for a place to stay short term without having to do the hard work!  Absorbing the education and tools provided during this stay is crucial to recovery. The rules that are enforced are there for a reason but most clients (including those enabling family members) don't understand them. Fact is: rules need to be applied everywhere and Hope House is trying to keep a safe environment to be able to teach clients this life skill. Hope House offers an opportunity to heal, you can nitpick all you want, this generation is KNOWN for that, but you have to give credit where it's owned, this is an awesome program that's been around for over 40 years, the experience and passion to help people reach sobriety is there! This is the worst rehab I've ever been to. They kick people out left and right for dumb reasons. In my case, I got kicked out because a parolee started a fight with me and I stood my ground. They only kicked me out even though the other guy instigated everything. The staff clearly doesn't care about anyone's recovery, they're just happy to collect that insurance money. The groups are awful, the staff treats you like a child, and there are more rules and restrictions than a jail. Easily my pick for the worst rehab of all time, and I've been in several. read more

I was a client at the hope house and was discharged after 60 days after they got their money from the county and my pay check because I took a pass after work. Low indigent recovery place, unprofessional and disrespectful staff. They have a bench which their tool of punishment and that's basically their god and what their program is about. They know that they have the power to put you back in jail if you don't complete their program so they abuse that power and try to humiliate and treat you like a kid. People are quick review restaurants and doctor offices, I'm surprised there are not more reviews like Omar's about Hope house. This is a terrible place, unfortunately many are just like it. I think they work to kick the participants out so they can get another person and still get the county money for the month. Double dipping I would think is there motive. Not sure how any real profession could be associated with this place. What is their success rate? How do they measure their successes? They let the "graduates" run the show. This place really works miracles. I went here after 20 years of using. For most of that time I just thought I started using because I liked to have fun. Turns out that is never the case. The staff here showed me that there is always underlying causes as to why we escape reality. They walked me through it , let me learn about who I was for the first time ever. I am now so happy. I love myself and the people I care about most love me back. They showed me healthy ways to deal with my emotions instead of avoiding them by numbing myself. If you want to learn about yourself and be rebuilt into who you once were please just give this place a chance. It's not just about quitting something , it's about starting a new beautiful life. This program put my daughter out on the street (literally) because she tested positive for marijuana when she was only there for 2.5 weeks. Hello? Weed stays in your system for 30 days. They kept her money & her EBT card, and told her that she would have to come back on a Tuesday or a Thursday between 9:00am & 5:00pm to pick it up. I called to try and make sense of the situation and was spoken to very callously, was not able to get to anyone of any kind reasonableness - "Crystal" told me "sorry" as if she could not care less. If you go here out of desperation be prepared to accept their rules without question, and to be treated as if you don't matter to them at all. read more

As a 2008 graduate of the hope house, I can tell you this place saved my life, and helped me rebuild a life beyond my wildest dreams. Prior to coming to the hope house, I was heavily addicted to drugs and alcohol and constantly destroying myself, my family, and everyone else around me. I was hopeless, and I found hope at the hope house. I now have very close relationships with my family, my girlfriend, my employer, and tons of friends in recovery. I owe it all to hope house for helping me find the real me that was hiding for so long. This money hungry facility needs to maybe re-think why they do what they do. Are you there to help people recover or are you a collection agency. They asked me to give them $400 for a piece of paper. No one is perfect you guys, especially when dealing with alcoholics and for you to be in a business of helping "rehabilitate" people, how dare you! Your director might want to also make sure your employees really understand what the privacy laws are, not just making stuff up to justify needing $400 to write a letter. read more

Ok. I was down for treatment. They ran multiple groups through out the day. Cool. But.... this a client based program. Clients do all the work. Cook, clean, do special projects. Etc. ok so that's not the worst. I was left alone in a all girl bunker. That is not ok. No one should be alone that houses 6-10 ppl. Not ok. I had to request special permission from the owner to have someone with me. Smh. No one is there to help. At all. I needed to talk to someone and they wouldn't give me anyone. But yet they called the police on me and I ended up in the hospital. They are NOT mentally prepared for us. Then after my hospital stay I requested my mom to get my stuff. They allowed my roommate to do so! Items were stolen.im a good girl btw. Don't do anything wrong. Yet I was in trouble on the bench almost everyday. Why?? Mostly cause I didn't raise my hand during feedback. For someone who has social problems this just wasn't happening. So I got benched. Like a 2nd grader. Wtf. The program could be ran better. With more therapists. And ppl to help. Oh and I one time had a doc appt. my mom came to pick me up and the doc told me the location changed. I had to check in somewhere else. So I did. When I come back Mike wasn't having it. He said I was wrong and that I would have to do 8 hrs of writing for lying. Wtf?? So pls...no...no....no...no. Do not come here read more

I recently was at the Hope House for several weeks and felt this program was cruel. Within the first few day of being at the house, i realized it might not be a good program for me. I discussed the matter with staff, but decided to give it a try for another 2 1/2 weeks. Yes, I too am a victim to the lengthy bench rides for over 10 hours. First and foremost, during the week of Thanksgiving 2014, 23 residents walked out of house due to a 70 hour bench ride! This was told to me by residents who were in the program at that time. Secondly, the staff does not know how to read the sig of a medication. For instance, I had a medication which is to be taken orally every 4 to 6 hours "as needed" or PRN. However, the staff determined it needed to be taken every 4 to 6 hours and if I didn't take it, I would be punished by way of the bench or writing a 1000 word essay and to clean the house. Lets keep in mind, there are no cleaning staff. The residents clean the entire house. Every resident is assigned duties/positions to clean the house. If you do not comply, you will face consequences. I was assigned to laundry. I washed laundry from 7:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. and was also assigned to Head Cook. On several days I cooked lunch and dinner for over 6 hours therefore missing all group activities. Further, after being there for 3 weeks, i only saw the therapist once. It even gets better, another resident assaulted me verbally and physically which is on film due to many cameras everywhere. I read the rules and protocol, and the resident should have been discharged. I brought it to the staffs attention and nothing was done to remedy the situation. Instead, the resident was allowed to stay and sleep in the same dorm with me for another two days at which time I decided it was best to leave. During the two days, the perpetrator retaliated against me by way of harassment. Staff was very rude, uneducated, and the tone in which I was spoken was of complete contempt. I will be filing a complaint and contacting my attorney. You would be better off going elsewhere. read more
