i can't say enough good things about this salon! abbie was able to switch my haircut to a same-day appt and i'm so happy with my cut! we had great conversation and felt like we vibed right off the bat. sometimes i feel awkward when i see a new stylist for the first time but i didn't feel that way at all with abbie. she is so personable and has the best energy! i really admire her craft & it's clear that she's great at what she does. throughout the entire appt she kept checking with me to see if i was happy with my hair and if i wanted to change anything and i didn't feel like a hassle when i did want to make some adjustments. i took her recommendations for some Redken products and have been loving them so far. they have a deal right now where if you buy 2 products you can spin the wheel for an additional "prize" and i won an oribe hair kit! ayla working the front desk was also super sweet. she also gave me a little goodie bag for being a first time client. i love the vibes inside the salon (very clean and aesthetic) and i love even more that it is so close to where i live. abbie and witch hazel have gained another loyal customer and i can't wait to come back for my next appt :) read more

I've been to Witch Hazel two times and have had two difference stylists. I'm not picky on who does my hair, so I usually make an appointment with the best available. The check in process is a dream! The woman that works at the front desk is so nice! She asks who your appointment is with, where you parked, gives you some general info, and offers you a drink. The two stylists I've had were great, but totally different. First time, I got the total treatment - peppermint essential oils during wash, short consultation, cut, done! Second time, it was more of a quick chat, a (kinda rough) wash, color done in the sink (totally fine!) cut, and done. I liked the way my hair turned out both times, so I can't complain! Just wasn't super relaxed the second time I went. Also I went home with hair dye on my cheek, my ears, and alllll around my neck. Which is always a pet peeve of mine Overall, the salon is stunning and the prices are fair! I will be back for sure read more

I moved to Indy from Chicago and was so worried I wouldn't find a salon/hair stylist that I loved but after finding Olivia at Witch Hazel Salon my worries were gone! I went to Olivia twice for her Signature Haircuts ($85 which is a haircut by a senior stylist/cutting specialist and includes shampoo/condition and blow out). On my third visit I made the leap and scheduled a Transformational Color and Haircut (starting at $220) The Transformational Color is their longest color service and is ideal for maximum lightening results in one session and is also recommended for those who have gone longer than 6 months since your last lightening session. Because Olivia and I had previously talked about color for my hair I didn't need to schedule a color consultation but I do recommend scheduling one to talk to a stylist about it beforehand. Olivia was absolutely wonderful from start to finish, she's a true artist and strives for perfection! I wanted a a little brighter, natural blonde look and she knocked it out of the park! After my color and cut she helped me pick out shampoo and conditioner (both of which I have now gotten for my sisters as well). I highly recommend the Kevin Mitchell Hydrate line Olivia suggested I use. Every time I wash my hair at home I know my color is safe, my hair is so very soft, and it smells like I just left the salon! I don't want to waste too much time on this, and I went back and forth on whether I should post this or not. However, I feel too many consumers (including myself) are afraid to speak their mind on a service they pay for. So here we go. I went to witch hazel for 2 years. While I do think my stylist was very talented, no one is perfect--and that's okay! What makes a good working relationship is communication, taking ownership, and honesty. Before I was "banned" from Witch Hazel for "having too high of expectations for my very busy stylist to meet," I went back to have her adjust a very uneven haircut. I'm not sure if I was looking down while she was cutting or what exactly happened, but I had a very choppy, uneven haircut that had never happened in my two years. I had just purchased brand new hair that day--which was very expensive. I scheduled an appt to see if it could be fixed. While adjustments made helped some, she had to take about 2 inches off to make it even. I asked the stylist if at my next move up I could *potentially* get new hair at a slightly discounted price due to the cut being too short (part of the reason I get extensions is for a little length). My stylist (who is also part owner of the salon) said, "we can talk about that at the next appt." My next appt never came bc I was called by the salon manager who was sitting with one of the owners of the salon (not my stylist/owner) to tell me I am no longer allowed to have my hair done by ANY stylist at witch hazel due to needing "too many fixes." I will admit, there have been a few times over the past couple years where a stitch came loose, my weft was popping up and exposed, small other fixes that took my stylist about 5 min to fix. I was told to go to a salon lofts to have my current extensions removed, because I wasn't allowed to come back in for even that service. You would think I did something completely terrible to not even be allowed back for a removal. Unfortunately this all happened around the holidays and many stylist's books are full. However, I was able to find a new girl who is listed on Covet and Mane's site as a "coveted professional stylist." She was WONDERFUL and looking forward to my next appointment--so maybe it was fate! In the past I had great experiences here, which is where one star comes from. Also they are incredibly welcoming and have a very friendly staff, another star. They took me from having long straight hair all the way to my butt to a cute collarbone length fresh new style. I went back for a trim and to get a little bit of shape put into it.... But that is not all that I left with. Be warned of Chris and her excessive use of thinning shears!! My hair is destroyed. She cut out half of my hair using this thinning shears excessively and my hair went from full body, to stringy, lifeless, doll, thin hair that just hangs off of my head. I can't even put it in a topknot or a ponytail, because the hair is so thin it looks like a paintbrush or a cotton ball when I put it up. At the salon after she styled it, it of course looked great because it had all the right products and style and curl. But coming home? I spent the entire day today sick to my stomach, feeling ugly and frustrated. Spending that kind of money at a salon should not end in tears and a low self esteem. I realize that hair grows back and this is not a true tragedy. But my 30th birthday is just a few weeks away, and I'm going to feel hideous for that celebration. It takes 6 to 12 months for hair to regrow after over shearing... Just be warned if she gets out those shears. I don't even know what to do! It's so limp and lifeless that it is LONGER than when I went in for the cut. BEYOND FRUSTRATED. I'm set to get a blowout for my birthday but if I'm being honest I may never go back I am so frustrated at the moment. Big let down. **update** I spoke with the manager and she was very empathetic and offered a comped blowout. Very good customer service. read more

I was very excited to get my hair done here, per my hair dresser in California recommended. At first glance from the street the spot looks suspect. However, when you enter it's adorable. The woman in the front, who was a little older: mid forties I would assume, was the least friendly of the bunch and the reason I won't give 5 stars. Being a receptionist at a salon does not entitle you to presume that you are superior to the clients who enter. My hair looks great, a bit over-processed. My CA hairstylist wasn't happy, to say the least. But, I am happy overall with the length and coloring. I do notice that because of the over processing, I was in toner for an extremely long time. Taking an hour and a half appointment to two plus hours. I do not think I will be back. read more

I am a dark brunette and wanted to start the summer transition of going lighter with a balayage look and came across Witch Hazel (as they are moving to Bottle Works this upcoming summer near my home and found them on their Instagram!). I spent 4 hours there with Alyssa I'm a Friday night and could not have been more impressed with her work, her attention to detail, and how my whole experience went. She spent almost an hour past closing time with me to make sure my hair was exactly what we were wanting, and her prices were soooo reasonable. Their hair products are, as expected, pricier but it is only because they carry high-end products that do the work they promise. I am pretty particular with my hair and Alyssa delivered above and beyond. We ended up doing a foilyage and it turned out like a dream (even though this was the first session of a few). I cannot say enough great things about her and her work! I am already planning my next trip back and seriously can't wait. Witch Hazel is my new hair salon for sure!!!! If you're looking for a great new stylist I highly recommend Erin! I scheduled an appointment with Erin after reading great Yelp reviews of her work. Sometimes when you first meet a hairstylist it can be a little awk, but it wasn't like that here. Even when I first walked in I was kindly greeted and offered a drink. Loved that. The place is a small shop on the corner of Virginia Ave. There is a bit of construction going on in Fountain Square but it doesn't hide the shop at all. The place is so cutely decorated. I came to witch hazel today and was blown away by the whole experience!! The building is BEAUTIFUL had lots of cute decor and lots of parking options. When I arrived I was welcomed and introduced to my stylist right away. I've recently been searching for a new stylist because mine closed her studio. I thought because witch hazel just moved to mass ave I would give it a try. My stylist was able to listen to what I wanted and was also able to make recommendations about other things she wanted to do with my hair. Honestly, hair cuts are so Intimidating for me because I really never know what I should be asking for. She made me feel totally comfortable and also suggested a product I should purchase that would help out with my endlessly frizzy hair. I have been saying to stylists for years that my hair feels "so heavy" and after a million different styles (most of them not flattering or what I want or even the requested length - eeeek!) THIS PLACE IS AMAZING!! First of all it is really nice and cozy inside. I can't even believe it used to be Rocket 88 donuts it looks totally different! The lighting is absolutely perfect for a salon with soft overhead and warm mirror lights. The sitting area is very comfortable and there is tea and coffee available and a small selection of high quality shampoos, conditioners, and styling stuff. I have really sensitive skin and whatever she put on my hair didn't bother me at all which was really nice. I chatted with a stylist named Corbin until my stylist was available (I was very early!) The girl who cut my hair is Kelsey. She really listened to what I wanted and was thoughtful about the design of my bangs. I literally chose her because she had a cat in her profile picture on the appointment website. It was a wise decision. I had a weird request- I wanted my hair to look like a bob when it was pulled up but look long and normal when it was down and she definitely pulled it off and then some! She gave me a little scalp massage when she washed my hair and it felt very nice, and she even styled it after with a little curl for my date with my boyfriend. I've waited a while to write a review for this company. I went to witch hazel a while back to do hair extensions. The short version is they fried my hair I had bald spots from it being too tight they say the extensions last six months to a year and each time literally I went in they replaced a portion of it. I left with paying no less than $700 every 6l weeks. Thousands of dollars was wasted. I found an amazingly new person at a different location and when she took my extensions out she was flabbergasted just floored I had lost a year of progress on growing my hair out I have areas that were bald. The gal that did my hair has been doing hair for 30 years and was just floored also explained hair extensions how they shouldn't have been replaced that often they were just taking advantage of me and they did. For the past year I have gained so much hair growth not to mention the gal at which hazel that did my hair told me. I choose who sits in my chair. The environment is snotty they gossip about people that are not there ,the owner brings her dog in without thinking of some of her clients might have allergies. What I can say if you want to throw your money away and have them take advantage of you then go to them. let me just say they'll end up stating that they don't recognize my name:) well that's because you don't have the real name for that reason. Be careful when considering this environment. My hair was ruined and they didn't give 1 ounce of poop shit about it. read more

I showed her some pics (always take pics if you can) of what I was looking for, and she took into account my fine hair and desire for future length. The finished cut is exactly what I was hoping for, and I loved how she styled it for me. Kelsey is fantastic - fun to chat with and very profesh. The prices are reasonable. There are so many things I love about my first experience at Witch Hazel. First, you book online! It was so easy! The hardest thing was trying to decide which stylist to use. I settled on Kelsey as she had the experience I was looking for as well as the availability. I was promptly greeted when I entered the salon, even though all the stylist were busy with clients. I was early so I sat in their comfy lounge area which allowed me to really take in all the fun details of this new salon. Mis matched - in a fun way- coffee cups hanging from shelves above a Keurig machine. A beverage refrigerator filled with soda and water. Art paying homage to the Indy. Truly a fun, positive vibe in this place! Upon sitting in Kelsey's chair, she asked all the right questions which instantly assured me I was in good hands, My last cut and color left me really hating my hair. She acknowledged what I hated and explained how we could get to what I wanted. She asked if I had pictures of the cut and or color for reference. A true professional! She was easy to talk to through out the entire appointment time. We had a few in common and I really enjoyed her vibe. She was positive and genuine - two of my favorite attributes. At the end of the appointment she gave me a couple of cards that included her personal number and as if I wanted to book with her or use the online feature. She even gave me a hug before I left. Well, all I can say is I expected one thing for 1 year and they day had finally come for a complete transformation! Last minute(literally) I received another color of extensions, dark brown and I paid for and chose bright blonde! . The owner was rude, smug, and hurtful. Treatment from her was as if she was superior to me. I went there many times and was satisfied. My last visit I was polite, even though they mislead me for what I was getting and gave me only 2 options, take out my brand new extensions or LEAVE and NEVER come back because " a since of trust had been broken" I've bitten my tongue and didn't want to put them on blast as I loved my personal hair dresser JESS, until she stood behind me silently watching the abuse and full well knowing they mislead me, I was stunned, I cried real tears, shocked, mortified, treated as I'd I had done something wrong. I decided to leave and never go back. As yes, trust had been broken at that time. As women we shouldn't treat one another this way. Never go to this place! They do not care about you, they only see $$$$!!!! Trust me, I promise this isn't a vindictive post. It's bare bones honesty. If "witch" Hazel likes it or not. I have very long, thick hair and she has done such an amazing job with my cut and layers. I have also had some balayage done and in the last couple months decided to go my natural chocolate brown. I am so excited to find Witch Hazel! I have been trying to find a place in which I could call and feel at home for a while now. This is it! My on-going appointments are set up with Mel, who is one of the co-owners. I guess what I like most is how honest and straightforward the employees are with you. Once you figure out the online appointment scheduler, everything is a breeze. If you have any questions in the meantime texting is your best bet. Mel took the time out with me to explain a few things as well as to show me a few tricks. I have the feeling of that the employees really try to understand their clients. This makes me feel more at ease when trusting them with my hair etc. I love how this place uses technology to their benefit. It cuts out a lot of unnecessary fluff out of the process. Also, it is super fun to be able to look at Instagram photos to see employees work and to get ideas of what you could see on yourself. With this shop being on the newer side (1 year in February) I was impressed with how all the employees operate together and teamwork shown. I was asked several times if I wanted something to drink and if they could hang up my jacket for me. I am excited to see more to come! read more
