My experience with Dr. Cho and the staff at Withee Acupuncture goes back almost 7 years. My parents brought me over to Dr. Cho's clinic for an ankle sprain that I sustained during my high school basketball practice. I don't remember much from my first experience, but one thing I still remember to this day is the way she welcomed me. It's hard to put into words, but the best way to explain it would be that when you step into the clinic, you're not just a patient, but you're family. Since our first encounter, I've been going to Dr. Cho for all my medical problems from simple colds to treatment for my allergies. Upon hearing that I was accepted to medical school, she extended an opportunity for me to intern at her clinic during my summer vacation prior to my first year at medical school. Although I was going to attend an allopathic medical school, I knew this was a unique opportunity to explore the holistic approach behind eastern medicine. I accepted the offer without hesitation. During the short time I got to spend in her clinic, she truly opened my eyes into the way I viewed medicine. Where do I start? I started coming here back in '04 when she was on Torrance Blvd. and only after I was referred to her by a trusted physician in the medical community. I thank God for that referral. I am not a huge fan of synthetic pill pushing, although I do think that pharmaceuticals do have their place, but are not always necessary and are handed out way too frequently. I have seen Dr. Cho for numerous reasons-anything from weight loss, joint injuries, fatigue, stress, ear aches, stomach pain, constipation, flu, anemia...you name it, I see her first. I prefer to do things as naturally as I can, and there has only been one time where she told me that, YES, for that specific condition, I would have to take a Western medication temporarily, and she supplemented me with what I needed naturally. I am a cancer survivor with a tumor in my lung the size of a peach. I had 28 "zaps" of radiation, and 21 treatments of chemo. The important news I have to relate is that, through it all, I never had any side affects nor had to take any medication. I ever played tennis numerous times in the days I had both chemo and radiation, and my tennis friends had no idea.( As an aside, I did lose my hair, but found an awesome wig I liked ever better than my own hair.) This, I believe, is due to the fact that, during my treatments, I went every week for acupuncture. Not only did this help build up my immune system, but helped to focus on my problem and alleviate it. I has now been 5 years, and still no cancer was found. I still get acupuncture every two weeks to keep my immune system up and to treat any minor ailments I may have without medication. First of all, for anyone who doesn't know, as I didn't, the Korean approach to acupuncture differs in some ways from the Chinese medicine approach. I had a horrible experience with Dr. Victoria Cho at Withee Acupuncture. She gave me a very expensive ($200 for 15 days worth) tea that was designed and custom-brewed especially for me that gave me a horrendous side effect that has lasted for OVER TWO MONTHS now. And she had assured me beforehand that the only possible side effect was a slight upset stomach. She also told me more than once that the tea contained "more than 20 individual herbs", yet when I asked her for a list of those herbs for my nutritionist, and later for my new acupuncturist, she was not forthcoming. I asked multiple times, after which she finally sent me a list of just eight herbs; I asked three more times for the rest of the list and my requests were ignored. Very suspicious indeed. The effect the tea had on me was unbelievably excruciating pain in my neck and shoulders, and most of all, in my head - my skull burned and felt like an overinflated tire that needed the air let out. The pressure and pain were an absolute nightmare and I truly thought that I was in hell that first night! NOTHING helped, including 800 mg of ibuprofen. I was completely unable to sleep; instead, I writhed and moaned in pain ALL NIGHT, wishing that I could get out of my body. When I called her office the next day to report what had happened, she actually told her staff to tell me that this could happen the first few days and to just KEEP TAKING THE TEA until I got through this rough patch. Can you imagine? I said that I was not interested in self-abuse. Needless to say, I did not return to her office. Both my new acupuncturist (Chinese medicine-based) and my nutritionist independently speculated the same thing when I described what had occurred - she had likely given me powerful tonifying herbs, despite knowing that my issues were chi DEFICIENCY-based. When this happens, the strong herbs are actually harmful to the person; my new acupuncturist likened it to giving someone who has starved for a long time a big turkey dinner as his/her first meal -- that can actually kill them. Because the body is already weak, it can't EXPEL the too-potent herbs properly, hence the long-lingering bad effects. Also, when herbs are brewed for several days, then distilled and refrigerated, as is often the case in the Korean approach to herbal treatment, the properties of the herbs are altered and their effects on patients are not as controllable. This was the worst of my experience, but I also want to note that she primarily uses machinery for diagnostics! I think that machine diagnostics has its place, but to depend so heavily on that? Also, she wanted to use only laser to treat me the first session and she also had a massage MACHINE (who has a machine for massage?!) that literally made me scream, and she laughed when I did. It was all a dreadful experience, including huge disrespect for the client. read more

My wife has ALS I was going to be paying cash they said $150.every visit but when I said we will continue to be clients of there place. My wife and I have been visiting Dr. Cho for several years. It is a very comfortable and warm environment and Dr. Cho works very hard to improve your health. The massage services are very professional (Dr. Cho hired two new South Asian masseuses who have excellent hand strength and do very well with pushing out kinks and knots) and acupuncture is done very well. i have had serious case of adult acnes, it all started during 3rd yr of college. At that time, I didn't take care of my body, no exercise, no routine time frame, eating at odd hours from chinese and mexican resturants. It was really bad, I started working out and ate healthier meals, but my acne was still pretty bad. I went to the doctor and he gave some pretty strong medications for it which to me, hurt my body even more. I wanted something that was good for me in the long run without any side effects. I have been going to Withee for over 3 years. I first started coming here because I had back pain during my pregnancy. I went to a chiropractor and physical therapy, but nothing helped. Since I was pregnant I didn't want to take any medications for my pain. I was also scared of needles but I decided to give acupuncture because my back pain was getting to be unbearable. I was willing to try anything. I'm glad Dr. Cho was able to help lessen my pain and it turned out the needles weren't so bad after all. The needles were so thin you can hardly feel it. I think the anticipation was worse than the needles itself. Now I see Dr. Cho periodically for my carpal tunnel. Many people love coming here for acupuncture, authentic thai massages, and herbal medication, but they recently expanded to facials and is definitely a hidden gem. They hired a cosmetologist, Grace, who has magically soft and gentle hands, and gave me the best facial I've ever had in my entire life. I've had facials at other places where they slap on a few masks but they barely touch my face. My facial at Withee with Grace was like a heavenly experience. When I first walked into the newly renovated facial room, it reminded me of a room in a salon or spa with the open space, the dim lights, and instrumental music playing in the background. I changed into a cute pink terry cloth robe and got into the soft bed under cushy and warm comforters. Grace gave me a thorough massage of every part of my face, neck, shoulders, scalp, and décolletage. She used multiple products on my face along the way and they were all very gentle. My face was not irritated and did not break out afterwards. Her fingers performed a perfectly choreographed dance on my face. There were also a lot of different machines along the side of the room. One of them was a high-tech leg massager that covered both my legs and gave me a feeling of floating in the clouds. She put them on me after she painted a thick mask on my face. This mask was no joke, it covered my entire face, including lips and eyelids, leaving only my nostrils. The soothing mask combined with the amazing leg massagers made me feel so relaxed that I promptly fell asleep. My skin was healthy, firm, and hydrated. I'm 40 years old female and I've had an infertility problem since I got married about 5 years ago. I had done many tests and all results came out as it is not easy for me to get pregnant. My egg quality was very low, so the doctor suggested me an egg donor. My hormones such as FSH and estradiol were not in normal range. I also had done AMH test which is called Anti-Mullerion test, and the result was shown that I was unable to get pregnant. I had bleeding twice a month which could be predicted as irregular menstruation cycle, but the doctor said that it is an episode of menopause. I was very disappointed that I was in the menopausal transition.
