Words cannot express how grateful we are to have contacted Witzig Painting! With local reports of insurance-company related drones flying around in our neighborhood looking to flag issues that could lead to homeowner's non-renewal notices, we knew that we needed to act fast to repaint an area of our home's exterior that the previous owners had made exterior changes to, but we were shocked to recently find out that they had someone paint over the replaced wood siding without first using any primer (!!!), so that area's substandard application of paint was starting to recently peel up in a few highly noticeable spots... yikes! Normally, this wouldn't have been such an urgent matter, but with the current stressful climate of insurance companies wanting to cancel as many policies in CA as they can, removing ANY possible issues, however small they might be, needed to be immediately addressed for our own peace of mind. So when I began to contact highly Yelp-rated companies to repaint this relatively small but time-sensitive job, we were informed that the entire area needed to be properly scraped, sanded, primed and then repainted in order for the paint not to peel up again in a short amount of time, and that a mere "touch up" without all the necessary prep work would definitely not last very long. Unfortunately for us, most of those reputable companies that came out to give us a quote were booked solid for weeks, and although some said they would "probably" be able to come out in between larger jobs, they understandably could not confirm a date for that. Enter Patrick from Witzig Painting, who not only gave us a highly competitive quote, but would also be able to squeeze us in during the very next week, after finishing a large commercial job in downtown Santa Cruz and a residential mansion in La Selva that they were scheduled to finish by the next week. I think it's important to share that it made such a huge difference to us that Patrick was sincerely empathic regarding our well-founded anxiety about taking care of this small but critically time-sensitive important project, as well as echoing the same professional concerns as the other reputable painting companies did about the necessity to properly prep and prime the entire area to ensure a long-lasting professional finish. Patrick's brother, Jack, would be doing the initial pressure wash, scraping, and sanding prep and priming work on the first day, and then both Patrick and Jack would finish the color-matched exterior coats of paint the day after. True to his word, Patrick kept in touch to confirm the date and time he and his crew would arrive, and they were exceptionally courteous and professional from start to finish. Our job was completed exactly as promised, with the paint matching perfectly with the rest of the house, and with a great-looking thick exterior coat that we will no longer be worrying about peeling for many years to come, although we do plan to stucco that exterior wall to match the exterior stucco of the rest of the house just as soon as we can budget it in. After we replace that side of our home with stucco, we will ABSOLUTELY schedule Witzig Painting to paint our entire house to their outstanding professional quality standards. read more

Our large backyard pergola was in desperate need of repair and staining. Since we are new to the area, I relied on Yelp and other online resources to select four painters. In general, we do not look at the lowest price. Communication, reliability, and quality of work outweigh the cost. The first two painters said they were too booked even to give an estimate. I called two other highly rated painters, and both responded with a visit quickly. Both painters told me I needed to replace 4 cross members because of termite damage. Termites had traveled through the vine that once grew on top of the pergola (we had the vine removed in February). The estimates were within 10%, but Painter 1 said I would need to hire a handyman to replace the bad beams. Lining up a handyman to do the job would delay the project. We chose Painter 2, Witzig Painting, who offered to replace the beams for time and materials. He gave a ballpark figure. Also, since he had just finished painting a large house, he had time to do our pergola project right-a-way. The project called for 1) Day 1 - Replace damaged beams 2) Day 2 - Powerwash the pergola 3) Day 3 - Sand the pergola 4) Day 3 and 4 1/2 - Apply two coats of stain. Pat Witzig the owner and 3 of his crew, kept busy from 9-4 each day (except 9-12 on Day 4). Pat was in constant contact with schedule and choices. The beam replacement was in line with the original estimate. They cleaned up every day. There was no spillage of stain. They used six gallons of stain. The completed work is excellent. The pergola looks new. Witzig also does some other small construction jobs. They paint kitchen cabinets. We are in the process of having them build two small fences in our front yard. Witzig painted my house interior. Patrick, the owner, is friendly and professional. I got several bids and Witzig gave a very good price. They were blazing fast. My ceilings are 20 ft tall and I didn't want to tackle that. I hired Witzig to do the common area. They covered all floors and furniture, puttied damage in the walls, did 2 coats: they came in and were out after 2 days. Patrick, the owner, and Patrick, his right-hand man, did (and are currently doing) an amazing job on our home. We hired Patrick to paint the interior of our house (the bathroom, bedroom and living room). We knew it wasn't going to be easy as we have an A-frame with high ceilings, wood walls, and wood paneling but they are doing a great job with a lot of attention to detail. I commend them as most contractors tend to come late or not at all but these two showed up on time everyday, were responsive, listened to what we asked for and did it without question and went above and beyond. Professional. Knowledgeable. And very cool. To me, that's the trifecta that's hard to find in skilled workers. I'm usually pretty wary of just going off of Yelp reviews to find good help, because you just don't know which of those qualities are going to be lacking. Patrick and his crew are the real deal though. I hired him to paint our kitchen cabinets and from the initial conversation to the final clean up, they were total pros and took the time to do the job right. They spent a full day prepping and masking, then came in the next day to spray. They were able to do the job without having to remove the doors, but still managed to spray under the hardware, which ensured the everything aligned perfectly as it should. They even sprayed some heater grates that were outside the original scope of work, since they would be the same color. We're stoked on how everything turned out.
