Ampco Electric - "When you want it done right the first time call the Pros, Ampco!"

Outstanding responsiveness and the technicians that handled our service call were highly skilled…read moreyet very personable. They diagnosed our wiring problems (yes, two distinctly separate problems) and fixed both. It's taken me a month to write this review but they are a terrific service organization with great people.

I contacted Ampco Electric inc to see if they could install 3 ceiling fans and an exterior outlet…read more I advised the owner that 2 of the 3 ceiling fans already have the correct box for mounting the 2 fans. The 3rd fan I purchased a special mounting bracket which fit between the ceiling beams. He started "it shouldn't matter as long as I felt secure with the product." He also states that "the fans that have the correct mounting boxes should only take 1 hour each to install." But the 3rd fan may take a little longer. He also said that "the exterior outlet box will cost around $100 plus labor." I was told these projects needed two electricians which would cost $170 a hour for both of them. I agreed to the terms and figured it would take only 4 hours total to finish all the work. I was able to get on the schedule the next day. I received a call from the electrician before they came out and confirmed the work that needed to be done. They showed up 40 minutes later. Once the workers arrived they looked at the fan locations and the location of where I wanted the exterior outlet placed. The electrician saw the fans we were wanting installed and he started that he just installed the same fan the other day. I was happy to hear this because this would mean the process will go by fast. Unfortunately that wasn't the case. Two fans with the correct mounting box took well over 3 hours and it seemed like the first fan took the longest and they had issues figuring out how the fan was put together. The second fan did go faster but I was helping to put some of the fan together. The third fan took a little bit of time due to the electrician never installed a support box between beams. I have done several of these so I explained how they go up and helped with that fan also. Once they were done with that fan we went outside to get the exterior outlet installed. Come to find out the electrician didnt have all the parts to do the job so he advised me they would have to run into town and grab the parts plus they were going to stop and get lunch. About a hour later they returned and started on the outlet. It took them over a hour to install the outlet. Since it was after 5:30pm they asked if they could bill me the next day which was fine. Monday I received a call stating our total was $1824.17. I almost dropped my phone because I was figuring it would have cost $1000 or less. I immediately called the company and asked for the itemized bill. After I received the bill I saw they were charging me for 8 hours of work plus $53.15 if I paid by credit card or debit card and $100 service fee (which I was never told about). I called and advised them the crew started work at 9:45am and ended at 5:30pm but they had to get supplies and go to lunch which I shouldn't have to pay for since they were not on the job. I also advised them the electrician and owner knew what parts they needed to complete the job but showed up not having the parts.I advised the secretary that the owner said the fans should take 1 hrs each and that the outlet should also take that long. I also advised her that the electrician said "he was surprised that the office hasn't called to find out why it was taking them so long." I also told them I dont understand why it took them so long to do the fans. I've done a great deal of fans in the past and it only took 45 to 60 minutes. We had a different electrician come out and installed our first exterior outlet and it only took them 15 minutes.I really think they were riding the clock because it shouldn't have taken so long.I do have several other projects on our property but if they were going to have electricians that drag their feet I had no reason to hire them The secretary did pass the information on to the owner and he knocked off $100 because he wanted a happy customer. The original price the owner gave me over the phone was great but after everything was done the price was way to much. I went to their location on 8/18/26 to pay my bill and come to find out the owner took more money off the bill bringing the total from $1824.17 to $1602.02. It was nice that he did this but the cost of the outlet I was told should not be anything over $100 without labor. Which they charged me $282.96 After being told how much the job would cost i did the math and my bill should have been no more than $800. I planned on writing a review on their Facebook page and Google but I dont have the option to unfortunately. I have been told by others I should file a complaint with Better Business Bureau but currently unsure if I will. Lesson learned if the crew is slow tell them pick up the pace or fire them on spot. The crew and the rest of the employees were very nice to deal with unfortunately I cant trust this company for future work. I would highly avoid this business by all means. Hopefully they will fix the issues but I have a feeling these issues are giving the company more money so no need to change the situation.
