Love the idea - plain and simple: pick your noodles/rice (egg noodles, udon, jasmine, whole grain rice), then your choice of meat/vegetables (chicken, beef, pork, tofu, prawns, shiitake, baby corn...) plus a sauce (soy, sweet&sour, curry coconut, teriyaki, garlic...) and 2 minutes later it comes all together handy in a small to-go box. This walk-in store offers some seating but is clearly for the rushing-by passenger that strolls through the touristy Soho area between Piccadilly and Chinatown. So, why only 3 stars? Not because my egg noodles with prawns and hot sauce weren't hot (in terms of spiciness), it's more because of the value: for pricey £5.95 I'd expect not to wonder if I just became a fatty who's always hungry or if the portion just was that small. Missing Mongolian barbecue, Wok To Walk hit my search engine as a close approximation. This is what bookmarks are all about, I was in the neighborhood, I was hungry, and it was nearby! With a pair of gas-fired woks in the window, you can stand and watch the chef prepare your meal right in front of you. You can't blame them for failure, because you pick the ingredients yourself. It's a little overwhelming at first, but if you take a breath, you'll do fine. First, choose from the noodles or rice (helpfully on display in glass jars on the shelf). Then pick your add-ins. They already include a carrot and cabbage mix, so you can add more to it if you wish. For today's visit, I just added chicken (which is precooked, but no biggie). Mushrooms are a nice idea, there are also pineapple chunks and all sorts of stuff. And finally, pick your sauce from their choices, which include Soy, Oyster, Sweet & Sour, Peanut, Teriyaki and more. It's tossed into the wok, tossed into a takeway box, and it's yours. (I suppose you can ask for less oil if you choose, or perhaps they'll add some more sauce. They also have a veggie special, if you're one of those herbivore vegan types.) You're welcome to dine in, though the seats are just wooden benches and the table is rather low. I've been thinking about how to write a review about Wok to Walk because there has been a sense of deja vu tugging at my memory strings. Then, it came to me. Wok to Walk is a takeaway version of the old Mongolian Barbecue chain of restaurants. It's based in a small shop unit on Brewer Street with the 2 cooking stations right by the window to create a buzz. You can't really blame them for a bad combination as you decide on the ingredients and flavours yourself. You choose the base carbohydrate ingredient of noodles or rice, then add meat, tofu and vegetables before finishing with a sauce, which gives the flavour. You can see the chefs fry your magic combo in front of you on some high temperature woks. Fortunately, their ready-prepared sauces turn out better than some of the awful stuff I created at the aforementioned Mongolian BBQ restaurants! The food merits a 3.5 star but I'm feeling mean tonight and rounded down! read more

I spotted this a couple of weeks ago but only tried it when I was in a rush before a gig at Madame JoJos. It's a very clean looking joint located just where Brewer Street hits Wardour Street. The concept is simple. Pick your base, topping and sauce, and have it all freshly cooked in about 3 minutes. Bases include rice noodles & egg noodles as well as various types of rice. You can then add toppings such as chicken, pineapple, edamame, tofu, broccoli, cabbage etc before choosing a sauce from a range that includes teryiaki, sweet & sour and satay. You can watch your meal cooked in front of you before receiving it in a noodle box with a pair of chopsticks. Eat inside on one of the bences, or wander off into the night. Very tasty! Wok to walk is little takeaway, which I tried at my lunch break It was quickly made and hot. I really liked the variety.... Honestly at the risk of sounding totally pretentious I wouldn't give this place a second glance if I walked by. There's absolutely nothing special about it. It looks like one of the many, many oriental hole-in-the wall take away places in Soho. But thank god, I was with a friend who promised me that there was more to this place than meets the eye. The formula is simple- 1. Pick your base- choose from a selection of rice and noodles. ( I got the egg noodles). 2. Pick your sauce (I got the hot sauce, obviously). 3. Pick your meat (I got the chicken). And voila, a few minutes later your combination arrives in an oriental paper take away box. I was delighted with my meal! There was no magic recipe or secret ingredient here- it was straight up good food. It was quick, cheap and absolutely delicious! It wasn't too healthy and it wasn't too oily- it was actually just right. I was recommended this place today so I went straight round for lunch. You walk through the doors and right beside you are the chefs cooking up meals at the speed of light in two woks. You can choose from noodle or rice based dishes and select your desired toppings and flavours to custom make your meal. Obviously mine tasted amazing, because I chose what went in it. I like the idea how you can pick noodles, rice or vegetables. The various combinations that you can have with selecting a variety of foods means you get what you want. I chose to have vegetables, chicken, beef and teryaki sauce. I was pleased with the serving. The food is fresh and you notice the taste in the wok box. The box gives a nice feel to the noodle dish. This is steps above the buffett type food that is mainly served within the soho area. I dont like the idea of having food that has been sitting in a tray for half the day keeping warm. At wok to walk food is fresh and yum My only complaint would be that the sauces saturated my boxand can be overpowering with the vegetables losing some flavour from the intensiity of the sauce. One of the best take-out Asian fusion places I've been to. I'll almost I had the drunk munchies when I ate it, but it really hit the spot at midnight in a neighborhood (Soho) where most things are closed by 11/1130. Short wait time, and the cashier was helpful in that he recommended a different sauce to pair with what I'd ordered. He was right. Is it the best Asian fusion I've ever had? I love Wok to Walk! It's a shame there is only one in London. I first discovered this amazing place in Amsterdam, where they have many shops all over the city. In London you can find it in Soho and it is quite small but still great! You choose from different rice or noodles (I always go for whole wheat noodles) then add your favourite ingredients (for me it is tofu and nuts) then you choose the sauce (peanut sauce) and they cook it directly in the wok while you watch them. It always tastes amazing and you get more than enough so you can even have it for lunch and dinner the same day! So cheap and so good! I absolutely am in love with this place! read more

Moving our office to Soho has proven an adventure in finding good value places for lunch; especially the sort you can take back to your desk quickly! Enter Wok to Walk, recommended by a colleague more familiar with the area. The idea is great. You pick a noodle or rice type for a base of £3.59, add as many ingredients (which vary in cost of course) as you like, then top it off with a sauce of your choosing. Basically, build your own noodle box! As with most of these places, the quality of ingredients vary, but my multiple trips have allowed me to work out what I like. The pork has been chewy a couple of times, and the mushrooms never seem cooked properly; and this lets Wok to Walk down a little. But on the other hand I've found the chicken to be delicious every time, and the pepper mix is a good addition. Of course, the more you add the more you pay - I tend to keep it to two additional ingredients. My favourite sauce is the Bangkok (curry coconut) with the Shanghai a close second. Pro tip: top your noodles off with a spoonful of the chilli relish before you leave for a delicious kick! The fact I keep returning and continue to enjoy my meal, feeling both stuffed and satisfied, puts this place well above its competitors in the area. Recommended. read more

Behind the glass screen to your left will be two people cooking up a fierce storm. The food here is fresh. The ordering system is simple, choose your noodle/rice base from the available options, then add your main constituent whether it's beef, pork, tofu, shrimps, chicken or edamame beans and broccoli. Finally choose your sauce. There are no more than 6 choices per category which may seem like too little but is in fact plenty. Vegetables are added to the mix as standard. I found it to be very expensive in comparison - at £8 for a box of noodles at lunchtime is a bit expensive, given that there are loads of cheaper and better value alternatives in Soho. They have a decent range of Sauces and Favourites to choose from. While Veggies (like me) might have only one or two things to choose from. You can try this place once. A super fun Noodle Rice bar right in the centre of SOHO, Opposite the Prowler shop and at the end of Old Compton Street, The place is tiny but its a quick place to get something to eat which includes yummy noodles or rice then you decide what meat or what toppings you want, its so fresh that they cook it right in front of you and served in a couple of minutes the boxes they come in look small but you get loads, perfect before or after you've had a few beers around SOHO, Prices are ok at a start of around £3 but can add up to around £8 so not cheap but ideal. Small and very clean looking with a simple 3 options menu; a choice of either rice or noodles, add your meat and/or veggie option, and then the type of sauce you want. Simple. You're handed a ticket and your order is ready in less than the time it take for you to flick through The Metro. Recently feeling like I need to step away from hardcore carbs I chose whole grain brown rice, chicken, peanut and oyster sauce option. Surprisingly very tasty indeed and super filling. Ordered egg noodles with beef, brocolli, bamboo and bamboo shoots, and had the asian spicy sauce. Only thing i liked about it were the noodles, broccoli, and bamboo. I was expecting more noodles but half the box was filled with the veggies(green onions, onions, bean sprout, and cabbage) that came with the egg noodles which was disappointing, so if you don't like your veggies that much like i do, ask them for less veggies. The broccoli and bamboo were great and plentiful while the beef was so hard to chew, my friend and i ended up spitting out or not eating them at all. We both did not feel well afterwards, maybe the beef was left out for too long or something, but the other meats might be a better option for others planning to come here. Other than the beef and too much veggies the many options they give you is great! We're only visiting london for a couple days so we probably won't ever be back here again, but if we did we'd probably opt for another establishment unless we were really desperate. read more

Saw a branch of Wok To Walk whilst visiting Valencia for Las Fallas a couple of years running - and finally paid a visit this year (two days ago). Very similar concept to "Big Bowl" in Chicago - both excellent! Very fresh, very tasty and VERY filling once you've added a few extras. The only downside is the extras tend to rack up the price (mine was 10 euros). I'm delighted to see we have branches in the UK and would love to see one in Cambridge! read more

I have been there just once because of Groupon voucher. It says £3.95 but you have to pay for the meat £1.40. Otherwise £3.95 will get you just rice/noodle and sauce. So it would cost £5.35 in total.
