I spent more time swinging with the youngest grandson, and watching him and his 8 years old playmate (friends since toddlers), and walking around to the nearest creek & bridge. It was a challenge finding parking but when we did, we excitedly walked to the park anticipating the enjoyment we would all have. Unfortunately, when we arrived, we were greeted with multiple signs advising that the park does not allow dogs and encouraging people to walk their dogs around outside the park. We did that, as well as attempting one of the trail options but we have better options for that without driving here, hence the two stars. We also understand the necessity of not allowing dogs is specific locations so this review is for anyone researching because the Internet has told them this is a dog friendly place. It is not.

Gone are the onslaught of splinters, burns from the hot metal slides and being attacked by the countless wasps hiding in the nooks, crannies and roof peaks. Even back then, this was the park to go to! Fast forward to a recent refresh, the playground is still sprawling and super diverse, something for everyone! Wood has been replaced by plastic and metal but the laughter of kids as they run wild is still here. The only downside is maybe the lack of parking, but on hot summer days you'll find the ice cream truck posted up in the lot closest to the playground. What I really love about this park is that's it's more than just a playground. The greenway cuts through it making bike riding an awesome option. Keeping in that theme, there's a BMX style dirt track with whoops, table tops and fat banks and burms. A comprehensive skateboard park, tennis courts, a huge open grassy area, covered seating for parties and a large dog park round out this sprawling Medford classic.

The garden is organized into themed sections with pathways to follow to take you through the different garden areas. There is the Japanese Garden, the Butterfly Garden, the Children's Garden, and the Rose Garden, to name a few. Each visit is a little different, depending on the time of year and what is in bloom. On this visit, I was amazed by all the different dahlias, the beautiful roses, and the whimsical rock garden populated by gnomes.

That being said, this park, albeit somewhat primitive (just not fancy), is really nice. The grounds keepers do a nice job keeping up with the mowing and pruning. The path on the far side of the park leads down to the water and gives you a great vantage point of where the North and South Umpqua rivers run together prior to becoming the Umpqua and heading out to the pacific ocean. The setting here provided for some nice back drops for some pictures with family. Unless you are planning a picnic or something your trip here probably won't take exceptionally long, but it's well worth the few minute drive to get here and check it out.

This park is about 1/2 a city block in size and just perfect for a neighborhood park. I like that the B-Ball and Tennis Courts are on the other side of the park ... cuts down on the noise but you still know when the game is on. The gazebo may be reserved for special occasions but I never do. I just take it over! A very well maintained park, the garbage cans are never overflowing, the bathrooms are clean and stocked, the grass cut at least once a week and watered every night between 11:30 - 1:00 a.m. The sound of sprinklers is not quite the same as the sound of the ocean but, I still fall asleep.

There's nary a section of the North Umpqua that's not scenic as hell. And if you're traveling east up the river, Colliding Rivers is your first real glimpse of the goodness to come. The wife and I stopped in here on a recent road trip around Oregon, and it's worth the short detour. There's really not much going on here, but the rivers are beautiful and I hear tell that in higher water seasons, it can get kind of exciting. As it stood we ventured by in a historically dry and hot year, so while the pools and cliffs were enticing (I really wanted a swim) we simply took in the views, snapped some photos, walked the short nature trail, and read up on the history of this confluence. Oregon is full of great scenic byways, and spots like this are peppered along this specific one. If you're cruising by, take 5 minutes and check out this beauty.
