Wolf Creek is a hidden gem! It's a mid-sized resort, a little over an hours drive away from Durango airport. I took a "Learn to Turn" ski lesson for beginner-intermediate adults. It was my second time skiing, and Rob was a great instructor! He was patient, kind, and gave very clear, understandable instructions! After my lesson, I explored some green runs, which I found to be well groomed & perfect for practicing my new skills! The resort has a relaxed vibe, not as pretentious as some of the name brand resorts, but still very nice, clean, beautiful, & well maintained--which is preferable to me! read more

Amazing day with excellent weather! I skied here back in 1975 when I was 17. That was 50 years ago..., every one there was friendly and chill. One of the staff mentioned it's been owned by the same family for 85 years. The lift passes and rentals were very fairly priced. The food was good but a bit overpriced. Then, the people working the ski rental area are incredibly good at being not helpful at alll! They say find your own skis and boots and if you need help putting anything on they'll say sorry I can't help you!! :D If you buy your lift tickets online just know that the lift ticket desk will not be able to validate them for some reason ... we tried and they sent us to a self serve kiosk in another building which didn't work, so IT came in only to confirm that yup the kiosk doesn't work, so they sent us back to the lift ticket desk, which refused to give us our lift ticket until we literally begged lol - no way I was going to let them scam me out of 2 $200 tickets. Finally got our tickets after about an hour and a half of struggling. The snow and lifts are good though and nice ppl working the lifts!! read more

Wolf Creek is no friend to kids with disabilities. For a kid without disabilities, it is $69 to rent gear and get a lift ticket. For a kid with disabilities, for a full day, they charge $596. That is 8.6 times more expensive for a kiddo that already misses out on pretty much all other activities in life. They offer no equipment that you can rent and no scholarships. So if I wanted to take my family skiing for three days, it would cost him $1,788 just to $135 for a kid without disabilities. Thirteen times more expensive! Thanks for ruining my day and further segregating a kid who just wants a glimpse into the world that other kids get to experience. I hope you get no snow and hit a bunch of rocks! read more

Fun local mountain town ski resort. Great place to start the season. The conditions were great for a pre-Thanksgiving warm-up. The mountain is well taken care of, and the locals were cool and nice to visitors. We will be back and add this to our annual Durango Purgatory ski trip. read more

It was a snowy day, we were able to get in a number of runs before the blizzard set in and the massive wind storm came in. It was unfortunate that they had to close down all of the lifts, but it was to keep us safe. I'm looking forward to going back tomorrow in the next day. The fresh snow should make it epic. While we were there, ski service was excellent, food service was slammed because of all of the closed lifts, but everyone was getting served. read more

20/years skiing this mountain. Always will be my favorite! The quantity of the snowfall is a highlight, and the quality is well maintained considering the aspect and elevation. Off the beaten track somewhat, Wolf Creek is one of those hidden gems that only the locals and powder connoisseurs know about, so there's a general lack of crowds and it's reasonably easy to find freshies after a snowfall relative to the high profile Colorado ski resorts. The Wolf Creek Ski Area offers some great tree runs. It is incredibly laid back and super affordable. Lift tickets, equipment rentals and ski lessons at the resort are inexpensive (especially for beginners), and in the nearby towns the lodging and dining are cheap as chips. Wolf Creek CO is usually one of the first US ski resorts to open each season and it's a great pick for early season snow. read more

Four and a half stars. Fair amount of parking for the amount of traffic they get. Nosh at the Raven's Loft is superior to what you'll find at Wolf Creek Lodge or Raven's Nest. Not much in the way of nearby bars, but the local brews on hand and Make My Day (hot chocolate with a shot of bourbon) are nice for keeping you warm. Discount days and half-day structure almost make up for the lack of night skiing; lifts open at 8:30 am but close at 4 pm, which roughly coincides with when the face loses sunlight. Lovely views, great powder, mostly friendly lift staff to make up for aloof ski patrol. The mix of groomed and backcountry trails could use better signage, so keep a map handy on the slopes. Didn't find the hot spring, but wasn't in the mood to trek too far. The scenic greens and blues were perfect for a newbie working on skills. Nova and Susan's overrun by group lessons. Wasn't a fan of Treasure or Thumper. Honorable mentions to Bunny Hop - Easy Out / Kelly Boyce for overlook views, Divide - Turnpike - Powderpuff / Legs for peak views. Alberta lift was fairly deserted because of placement relative to base camp, but the Simpatico - Coyote loop were worth the hike. read more

When they say Wolf Creek gets the most snow in Colorado,it is no lie. Lots of fresh powder, even in early December. Getting big dumps of snow makes it a bit of a challenge to drive to, and most people say this is a resort that is a little out of the way,but we actually made it up the pass in a freaking Prius during a storm that brought 16 inches of snow. This affordable bare bones resort (not as many amenities as bigger resorts so don't expect a bar and lounge at the top of the mountain) is a skiers dream. Barely any lift lines, plenty of long scenic greens and easier blues, challenging ungroomed trails (only the greens and easier blues are groomed), beautiful back country and multiple days with discounts (local day, student day, senior day). Today, we felt like we had the entire mountain to ourselves, granted it was a Tuesday, but this never happens. Also I love the staff on the mountain, they offer great advice and even let you play with the rescue dogs (note: the dogs like to lick and kiss people so they remember their breath so let them be kissy faces cause they might save your life!). If you are looking for the best area to stay, Pagosa Springs is your best bet. A cute town with plenty of stores and even hot springs that is about 25 miles away. Wolf Creek is by far the best ski resort I have been to date( and I have been to resorts in California, Colorado and on the East Coast).I can't wait to return!!! read more

We had such a blast at Wolf Creek Ski Area. Being on the US Ski Team, they did an amazing job hosting our team, building a training venue for us, and making us feel so welcome in the community. We freeskied the first day there. Since it's still early in the season, not much was open. However, we lapped the trail under the lift so many times and had a blast. We were jumping off rocks. We quickly skied in the moguls. We thoroughly enjoyed all the natural snow they had. Even the groomed runs were crisp and fun to carve. The lodge is plenty big with tons of seating. The bathrooms are big and clean. The food is delicious and reasonably priced too! I hope to come back here when more is open, but this mountain was way too much fun. The people were so friendly to each other. If you're trying to get away from some of the Epic Pass/Tourist mountain vibes, Wolf Creek Ski Area is the place. read more

Day I went this last time was the most epic powder of my entire season! Wolf Creek is for lovers Ps drive reaallly slow when in this area. If there's a snowstorm on Wolf Creek Pass, you better go slower than a grandma if you're not used to driving in snowstorms- or stay home. I totaled my car into a guardrail by driving only just 5mph too fast (the roads hadn't been snow plowed yet). Huge lesson for me! First time in Colorado and so glad we were able to go to this ski resort! Tons of fresh powder and no waits on any of the ski lifts. The rental prices are super reasonable as well so if you do not wish to bring your own gear, you will be totally fine! We had a group of 7 people and we had so much fun! We made it there two days and went from 8:30-4 each day. Make sure you eat food at the top of the raven lift because it is so much better and less crowded than the lodge at the bottoms. There are so many trails, you could ride a different one all day and never ride the same one twice! I loved this resort and I will definitely be back! read more

Wow! Absolutely stunning views. The mountain holds the prettiest powder we've ever seen! We hauled the kids up for their first skiing experience ever. We were blown away by the huge operation that is well staffed with friendly locals always ready to lend helpful info and a smile. GO WITH THE PRIVATE LESSONS Or Board Classes! We especially appreciated Daniel at the Wolf Pup lodge. His patience & experience are evident. He had our 3 year old daughter skiing down the mountain (red, yellow, green light on the bunny slopes) within 45 minutes!! His sweet spirit, helpful hints, and appreciation for Wolf Creek made the whole experience for everyone-mom and dad included- incredibly special, memorable, and now a life long tradition! Dalton was great with the Board lessons for our 15 year old. We found both options were well worth the investment and made our kids first impression of this fun sport a great one! read more

Even in the Fall, the 2-lane road to Wolf Creek Pass (10,857' Elevation and on the Continental Divide) is long, winding, and steep (7-8% with a tunnel thrown in) on both sides as you travel on US 160 to and from South Fork and Pagosa Springs. This place is also notable as inspiration for a C.W. McCall Song (Wolf Creek Pass). The Wolf Creek Ski Area itself sits right near the top of the Pass, and its reputation for lots and lots of snow is well deserved. Considering the trouble it takes to get here and the presence of Taos and Red River to the South and Purgatory or Telluride to the West, the Tourist and Texas factor is minimal. And with the possible exception of the Holidays, the lift lines are short and the skiing is deep. As far as driving safety goes, I prefer lodging on the South Fork side, although with the Hot Springs (and Après-ski) factor, Pagosa Springs is a better choice. As of 2010, a major resort project proposed by Texas billionaire Red McCombs is causing controversy in the area. The proposed resort would be situated near the summit of the pass. People familiar with the high alpine environment and water issues in the area question the wisdom of a resort style village at 10,000' elevation. read more

I love Wolf Creek Ski Area and I have skied all over the US for 50 years. Their value is off the charts. Great snow, long runs, a big mountain full of variety and low prices. The Ravens Nest mountain restaurant has good burgers and pizza as well as a full bar, and once again very reasonably priced for a ski area. Bottom line is you get everything a skier wants and needs for about half the price of the CO ski areas off of IH70. read more

This is my second trip to Wolf Creek. I haven't been anything but impressed yet. The claim of "The most snow in Colorado" is 100% true! Last year the mountain got about 18 inches of snow nearly every night, with the following day being clear skies. This year was similar. We had gorgeous weather the first few days, and then got HAMMERED the last 2 days. I lived in Park City, Utah for 13 years and I can honestly say I have NEVER seen this much snow this fast. The mountain itself, which is about 25 miles from Pagosa Springs, is a little on the small side at first glance. It is about the same size as Taos, if I am envisioning it correctly. There are technically 7 lifts, but 1 is just a T-bar and is very rarely active, another is the bunny hill lift, and another is the "Magic Carpet" for the super-beginners. So you have 4 real lifts. The runs vary from super slow greens to some pretty intense double-black faces. This mountain gives you a lot of back country style runs. Trees, deep powder, hiking (if desired) are everywhere. There are a lot of mogul runs as well. The mountain does seem to be a bit biased to skiers. There are quite a few traversing trails that require the use of poles. My friend who was snowboarding was not a fan of this. There is no terrain park of any kind, or any official jumps. Some people of set up a few kickers around the mountain which were pretty fun. I go here for the back country style riding though. If I need some air and rail time I just got to Breck. Lift tickets are $56 and the runs are open from 8:30 to 4. Beginner classes started around $66 for a 2 hour class, I believe. I will definitely be back for a 3rd, and 4th, and many more times. read more

First time experience for my fiancé and I ever to ski/snowboard we took the beginners course and were hitting greens the same day. We had amazing instructors Craig for ski school and Luke and Keaton for snowboarding they are super friendly with wonderful coaching tips. We came back for another two days and were hitting blues the whole time. When it comes to views at the top it's breathtaking at the top top nearly 360 degrees view of beautiful lifetime photos. Resort is nice and most staff were great. The short haired lady in the ski rental place is really rude. Snowboard instructor Taylor wasn't very good. He didn't even show us how to get up after you fell. I never realized how hard that was. He even joked about it but never showed us. In the end we switched to skiing and had a great instructor. Our younger Daughters had great ski instructors. Wolf pups class is so cute. One day our 13 year old basically had a private lesson since she was only one in class. read more

We really enjoyed our outing here being rank beginners. The parking is well organized and shuttle buses take you to and from the parking area if you're far away. Ticketing is straightforward as is the equipment rental. The ski area is well maintained and has a great mix of beginner, intermediate, and expert skiing. There are two reasons I deducted a star: 1) The altitude. If you're not in good/great shape, the 11,000ft altitude is a killer. There is just not enough oxygen around until you become more acclimatized. My legs always felt like they were on fire during skiing. When you ski at lower elevations, this isn't nearly as much of a problem. But like I said: I'm a beginner and not in good shape. 2) The equipment rental place is not laid out well. There is a lot of back-and-forth traffic and the space between the counters and the wall is too narrow. You shuttle forward from station to station when you get your equipment, then you have to come back along the same route to get back to the ski area. That is pandemonium during busy times and almost impossible to get through the throng of people. They could really afford to redesign that. The lifts are fast and well run; the ski trails are in great shape. read more

Hands down, the best powder in the West! Wolf Creek Ski Area accommodates every level of boarding and skiing. If you are up for the challenge, the Alberta Chair takes you to the backcountry where you find the most powder and the best fresh snow. Check with the website because they do "locals days" a lot, but you dont have to be local to take advantage of the $31 lift tickets. There are hardly ever any crowds unless you go around Christmas break or Spring break. If you feel like taking a little breather, the bar offers great drink specials and friendly service. Parking personnel were on it. We loved the mountain! Would have preferred a few more directional signs. If you are vigilant, you can ski from one side of the resort to the other. The lift personnel were polite. The food at the Lodge was very tasty and reasonably priced. The staff there was also very efficient. The service at the Prospector Grill is quick. Everyone loved the Chicken Vegetable & Barley soup; I loved the clam chowder. The gift shop personnel weren't what I would deem as friendly, and to us, the price of swag in the gift shop is about 10-20% higher than expected. At any rate, to reiterate, we loved the mountain. Lots of wide open skiing, the greens are greens, and the blues are a mixture of reasonable and challenging. My husband said the blacks are not quite as steep as we are used to in Utah, but that works for us. read more

WOW. I have been skiing Colorado for 20+ years and this was my first trip to Wolf Creek and I LOVED it. Nothing fancy...don't come here looking for shopping or spas, but if you want to ski on the best powder snow that Colorado has to offer, then Wolf Creek is yours. $52 lift tickets and $40 for a 2-hr lesson...incredible, I only wish it was closer to home. The address on this Yelp listing is Pagosa Springs, but in reality Wolf Creek is 25 miles east of the center of Pagosa Springs. There is not any lodging at Wold Creek so you need to look at either Pagosa or South Fork. We stayed at a friends place in South Fork which is pretty small, but only about 25 minutes from the slopes. read more

HIGHLY RECOMMEND FOR BEGINNERS!! My family and I have never been to the snow and never snowboarded and decided to come to Pagosa Springs. We decided on coming to this place to snowboard and take lessons on site as they were recommended in town and we LOVED IT!!! Our instructor Sage was so sweet, encouraging, patient and willing to work with us beyond our expectations. She was the best and we even extended our time with her. She was a blessing for us, as we never go snowboarding or to the snow in general. Our experience here was incredible and the 30 min scenic drive through the mountains to the place was absolutely stunning. We highly recommend coming here, everyone is so sweet and the area is beautiful. Such a great experience, we will definitely be coming back. We did come during COVID so all the indoor lodges were closed but luckily we came when it was a beautiful sunny day. Food and drinks (adult beverages as well) were on site as well as clean bathrooms. There are so many great things to say about this ski area. First, $66 for this mountain is a steal. If it were closer to a more populated area it would be $100+ all season long. I have been here over Christmas and Presidents Weekend and those are the 2 busiest days of the year. Longest I have had to wait for a chair would be about 8 minutes. Once on the mountain there is plenty of room! Sure, some of the greens get a little busy with kids, dudes in jeans and cowboy hats, but there is plenty of room on this mountain. Plus, an awesome mix of really green, green, blue and black trails. I have put my son in "Wolf Pup School" and his instructors are always awesome. I too have taken a group lesson and had a great experience. The people that work here are all very friendly and clearly love their jobs. They even make the most out of the mundane jobs like working the lift. My only complaint is related to purchasing lift tickets. The lines in the morning are unbelievably slow and long. On a busy day, this cuts huge into your ski time. There has to be a better way/system. The season pass holders get frustrated too, the line designed for them is full of people buying day passes. Stop being so nice and tell those people they are in the wrong line. read more

When you go to rent your gear, mentally prepare yourself to be treated like crap by the staff. First off they were clearly high, and the place smelled like weed (I get it's legal but at work?). They wouldn't let a parent go in with our minor kids an said "they're old enough to figure it out" (they're 15). When we asked who was going to pay for them they said "I'm sorry you had a long drive" and laughed at my wife. It wasn't that busy at the end of the day and there was 0 professionalism in the place. read more

Let me start by saying the mountain is awesome, but the owners of Wolf Creek Ski Resort i feel are somewhat discriminatory. Have you ever thanked a military person for their service, and it didn't matter to you whether their service was past or present? Well, it seems Wolf Creek Ski Resort thinks that once you retire from the military that your military service you provided no longer matters. This is a form of discrimination, and discrimination in any form is not justified? Last year was my last year at wolf creek. I was online with my wife to go ski wolf creek mountain and the only thing different was that I was retired from the military. I asked for a military discount as I did so many times in the past, but this time I was denied the discount. I asked why and I was told that only active military are offered a discount. Jokingly, I mentioned to the cashier that I protected this country for 20 years and now that I am retired I am no longer allowed to get the military discount, and she told me if I wanted I could take it up with management, so I did and I was told "Thank you for your services, but we do not honor a discount for retired military." I understand that Wolf Creek does not have to offer a military discount, but when you offer a discount it should not be for one category in a group. Retirees served 20+ years and if anyone should get the discount should be retirees, since many live on a fixed income and worse yet may have a service-connected disability. By offering an Active Duty discount you are stating that their establishment does not care about the service retirees had given to this country. Either offer the discount to all military folks with an active duty or retiree ID card, or don't offer a discount at all. I used to love skiing at Wolf Creek until last year. I was hoping they would change their policy this year, even after me writing a letter to management, but it seems that they really do not care about a retiree(s) service to this country. So, active duty member(s) beware; once you retire Wolf Creek Ski resort will no longer give you that discount you have been receiving. I would love to return to Wolf Creek Ski Resort, but until they stop this discrimination i guess they have lost my business. I will continue to educate the military community of this discrimination. Let me tell you that Taos Ski Valley offers a military discount to both Active Duty and Retirees, and allows snowboards. read more
