We adopted our wonderful dog Blaze from the Women's Animal Center and it is such a wonderful facility. We could immediately tell how well-cared-for Blaze was. In addition to Blaze being up-to-date on all his shots/exams, the facility was very clean and well-staffed, someone was able to help us immediately, and we were impressed by the nice space each dog had. They were very honest with us about each dog we inquired about as far as the challenges each one had - they never tried to push us. Also, the adoption fees are much lower than other animal rescues. They are doing such great work here, please come here to rescue your next best friend! We are so happy we came here, and we will certainly be back. read more

I'm writing this with a very heavy heart. I recently found myself in an incredibly difficult situation after taking in a second dog from a family that was urgently trying to rehome him. I already had a dog, and unfortunately, she did not adjust well to having another dog in the home. Her behavior changed significantly, and despite my best efforts to make it work, including hiring a trainer who was a prior K9 officer handler, the situation became increasingly stressful and unsafe. I worked tirelessly to find a new home for the second dog--posting across social media, coordinating with the original family, and even partnering with another rescue. But I had no success. In desperation, I reached out to Women's Humane Society and had multiple lengthy conversations with staff members about what was going on: how my resident dog was struggling, how the new dog had severe resource guarding issues, and how I was at a loss. Each time I spoke with someone, I was reassured that Women's Humane Society had experience with dogs who had behavioral challenges and that euthanasia was not something they resorted to lightly. I was told--more than once--that he would not be put down and that they would work with him. With a broken heart, I surrendered him to the rescue, sobbing, and made it very clear that if they ever felt it wasn't working or that he couldn't stay, I wanted to be contacted immediately to take him back. I have this in writing from the rescue's own intake notes. I placed my trust in them during an extremely emotional and vulnerable time. What happened next is something I am still struggling to come to terms with. No one contacted me, despite the agreement. By pure chance--because both I and the other rescue I had worked with kept calling to check on him--we discovered that he was scheduled to be euthanized. If we had not kept following up, he would have been put down without my knowledge, without a call, and without the chance to intervene. This experience has been absolutely traumatizing. I trusted this rescue to honor their word and communicate openly, especially after such intense discussions and clear instructions. The idea that his life was spared only because so many people kept calling is devastating. I can't describe the pain and guilt I feel knowing I left him somewhere I believed would help him, only to find out they had decided to end his life without telling me. Please understand, I know rescues face incredibly hard decisions and limited resources. But what hurts the most is the broken trust. I needed transparency. I needed communication. And I was promised both. I hope sharing this helps others understand the importance of full honesty and follow-through in rescue work--especially when a life hangs in the balance. read more

After finding a stray cat, who spent a few days in my house and was healthy and well behaved, I found out from a microchip scan that he had been adopted from WAC a few years earlier. So I returned him to the shelter. Shortly afterward, they killed him. They euthanized him for "behavior issues" -- which were certainly not evident to me. That WAC belongs to the No Kill Coalition is a joke. read more

So basically we adopted a cat here and she ended up being sick so they treated her and told us she was fine and once we got to the animal shelter they gave us a completely different cat.. So obviously we were confused as to why we were handed a male cat who was aggressive and nothing like the other cat. Amanda and the other staff made this process so easy. Its hard enough to lose your best friend, but to have such wonderful help ease the process. I brought my cat in last fall to the vet. He wasn't eating normally. His blood work was normal. I trusted the vet. She prescribed an appetite enhancer. This was a Thursday. By Saturday he was very lethargic. He had a seizure Sunday morning and passed. I notice on the medication "for use in dogs only". I was devastated! I trusted them! When I spoke to her the next day, asking why she didn't tell me about this medicine. Her response "We are just too busy to go over side effects ". She had the responsibility to tell me that this medicine wasn't approved for cats and let me make that decision! I regret that decision every single day. read more

Came by to see Missy, who was portrayed in today's paper. We recently had to put down our 22 year old beloved cat. A large facility that used to be the Woman's Humane Society. Ample parking. Spacious and clean lobby area. Nice folks at the front desk. We had to fill out a form and meet with an adoption counselor. We have been waiting 5 minutes. Greeted by the counselor and taken back to the cages. Apparently this is not a kill facility as many of the cats we saw were here for many months and a few were older animals. Missy was a nice looking older cat with piecing eyes. She had something going on with her lower lip but was friendly towards my wife. She did not pick the cat up but the cat seemed ok to me. Got a Spay voucher frfrom pets plus when i adopted my dog. Took them over a week to finally get back to me and then they scheduled the appointment for a month later, and then moved it back several times, I'm here now and have been here since 7 am, which is when i was scheduled to drop my dog off, and they still arent answering their phone or their door. Extremely unprofessional, i'm now late for work and still I'm here trying to get someone to answer the phone. Update, Still here, been waiting for over an hour and 45 minutes, nobody will answer the phone or the door, employees arrive to work and ignore me. My dog hasnt eaten since 5pm yesterday because they told me not to feed her for 12 hours leading to her surgery, she has not had water since 10pm for the same reason, I'm hours late for work now and nobody will speak to me. Don't come here, this place is the literal worse. Update, someone Named Steve claiming to be the Surgical Manager finally called my wife back, and despite the woman my wife spoke to already, admitting they forgot to call her. Steve Told my wife that they did call us an. leave a message, we never received a voicemail. He proceeded to tell my wife that they would never schedule a 7:00 am appointment despite assigning us another 7:00 am appointment in June. In short Steve blamed my wife for their error and took no responsibility, further proving just how irresponsible The Women's Veterinary Clinic really is. read more

I have had nothing but horrible experiences EVERY SINGLE TIME I go to this facility to adopt/foster a pet. I have been in person 3 times to see the cats (also after being told to come back at a time they weren't opened and was turned away). I put in an application to foster and didn't hear anything for over a week. I called to check the status and was told they don't have any cats that require fostering. I suggested a particular pet that had some behavioral concerns and suggested that a foster home would be better than a cage to integrate the cat and I was told that they only foster out sick pets. I have the space (and full range) of my home to host a foster cat and work with any who need additional care/love in order to get adopted. Why would anyone suggest it is better to keep the cat caged? It would also free up space for them to host other cats that need sheltering/adopting. But, what do I know?! I've also walked through both dog adoption places and found that injured dogs are just being left to sit in their feces. One dog had a collar that was covered in poop and his paw that he apparently had been chewing at didn't look to have any treatment to it. Poor thing. This place is full of nasty people who just don't care about a pet's well being. These poor pets need love and a furever home. If you can get them out of this hellhole, please adopt. read more

Used this place for my dog's vet for the past three years. Unfortunately recently, we decided to change vets. Our pup had an emergency one morning and I called nearly 8-10 times to try and get a same day appointment. I found myself left on hold or being hung up on each time. I decided to drive there and see what's going on. When I arrived I told them about the dog and looked over at the phone. IT WAS OFF THE HOOK. That's unacceptable. I asked why no one was picking up and they responded they're too busy. Not one person even picked up the phone to tell me this! So I decided to go somewhere else. Thankful I did because we have been receiving amazing service and much better prices. Blessing in disguise! read more

I took my cat Ivy to them in 2020 October, she had stomatitis. They removed her 6 teeth. Ivy is doing great. No more problem so far. I did not have to wait long for surgery, about 2 weeks. The whole process was smooth, and staff was professional and nice. I was provided with estimate and explanation, there was no surprises. I had to take my another cat Rocky to them in January 2021, he was properly diagnosed with oral cancer. He is in spirit now. Both times my cats received quality care, and proper diagnosis. I've been meaning to write this review since I adopted my cat last October, so I can't speak for any changes that have occurred since then. However, I do have some advice for those seeking cats. Their paper work makes this seem like a big, pain staking process to adopt an animal. And it is, but only if you're adopting a dog. If you want a cat that's been neutered they just want to hand them off as quickly as possible to make more room. I filled out my paper work not expecting to be able to take a cat home for another week at least, but they seemed angry I wasn't willing to take him right then and there. I'm not sure why this is, seeing as all signs indicated this would be a long, drawn out process. So, like I said, if you want an adult cat that's neutered and has all its shots already, you'll most likely be taking it home the same day. Now I realize they're doing the work no one else wants to, but I really shy away from taking my animals here for veterinary care. I've encountered major attitude problems with the vets there, and once a vet incorrectly diagnosed a cat of mine as having fleas. (He didn't have fleas, in fact it turned out he had a skin condition due to allergies that caused skin flaking. Not sure where you get fleas from that.) Not to mention their prices aren't that much better than their competition. Honestly, I'd rather take my animals to a less crowded vet if it's just a small fee increase. Plus they often try to tack on medical procedures that are not necessary for the animal, so beware. I have no major problems with the work they do here, after all someone has to do it. However, I think once you've picked out a new fur buddy you might be best off finding another vet for them to visit regularly. read more

Took my dog in to be looked at for a limp, told me what needed to be done but would not give a price estimate and when i asked my questions were redirected so i said okay and went ahead with it for my dogs sake. All said and done i was charged almost $500 for some anti inflammatory and pain meds and to be told they don't see anything wrong with her paw but she may have cancer and in order to tell me for sure I'd have to pay for a bone marrow test which i didn't even want to know the price based off what i paid for her to be seen that day AND the quote of over $600 just to have her spade. Safe to say I'll be finding a new veterinarian to take my pups to be seen at. read more

These people are absolutely the worst group of "professionals" I've ever dealt with. First, I'd like to say that my friend has been donating to this organization for years. With that being said, he took his dog there about 4-5 years ago and he was diagnosed with a severe issue which he later found out to be a misdiagnosis. My friend's dog passed away after 15 years on Monday. On Tuesday, we went to the Women's Humane Society- Bensalem to donate his dog's toys, harnesses, pee pads, food, etc. Well, last night we realized that we may have accidentally placed his collar with his name tags in the donation bag. I called, left a message to check the bags if possible. Today is Wednesday, I get a call back saying that all collars have name tags removed when donated so other dogs can use them. Totally understandable so I ask, would it be possible for me to go through their dumpster because I need to find it. They say that's not possible because the trash has been picked up. I call the waste management facility associate with the Women's Humans Humane Society and they tell me the trash isn't scheduled for pick up until Monday. I call them back and they say "sorry, I don't know what we can do", after some words and being yelled at over the phone (oh and also being put on hold for 10 minutes) I hang up. Unbeknown to me, my friend is at their location going through the trash and what does he find? ALL OF OUR DONATED ITEMS. Nothing was gone through to see if one of their dogs could make use of mostly new items. These people are insensitive liars. I wouldn't go there if you have any other options possible. read more

My cat is 13lbs and contracted fleas from the Womens Humane Society after getting neutered and chipped today. He was dropped off at 7am and wasn't picked up until around 5:30pm. Now listen, I'm not the one to post terrible reviews, or slander businesses, BUT I called and spoke to two different people who told me the same nonsensical reasons as to why they can't compensate us for a single flea treatment. These reasons are: - "there's no way to tell if he had them beforehand, because no other calls or reports have been brought to our attention" - "he has not been in contact with any other animal" (allegedly) - "if the vets saw fleas they would've automatically treated him" - "it's only a little over $15 for the medication" My cat is an indoor cat and has not been outside a day in his life. He spent a little over 9 hours at the facility, and came home smelling like pee. We decide to bathe him, and voila, fleas are jumping off of him and into my bathtub. So please tell me, where did they come from, because none of this makes sense. Your vets didn't treat him, which means they didn't see any fleas to treat, so I don't understand where they came from? We spent $220 for these procedures, but then have our cat come home with fleas that he didn't have when I dropped him off.... I also explained to them that he does not leave the house and hasn't had fleas at any prior vet appointments with his regular vet, or at his consulation with the humane society prior to his surgery. There were multiple animals being dropped off at the same time that I was there this morning, and there's a constant rotation of animals in this facility daily, naturally. Not once have I blamed them for Oliver getting the fleas. A bug is a bug, and they can live in many different environments, so instead of acting like it's impossible for him to come home with the fleas, I expected them to at least take responsibility considering he didn't have them yesterday, and maybe comp a single flea treatment since it's "only a little more than $15". It's all about the principle at this point, and I'd much rather spend $30+ at the store, than give them any more of my money. I also managed to save one during his bath. read more

I have used this facility for many years with not one negative experience. I've adopted 2 dogs one of them I still have and most recently my cat. I'm grateful that they are a no kill shelter or I wouldn't have my Pit Bull or my newly adopted cat. My Pittie Stella was at the shelter for 6 months prior to my adopting her, that was 6 yrs ago. I recently adopted Freya, my kitty. Freya was first adopted from them at 3 months old, she was surrendered back to them when Covid hit and her owner couldn't afford to keep her. She was adopted again but I don't believe that she was happy with her new home. The shelter was upfront with all potential adopters about her surrender back to them. She had been urinating on the carpets in their apartment. I knew that there had to be a reason for this behavior, either she was sick or she was terribly stressed out and unhappy. I also knew that this would make it more difficult to get her adopted again, so I took that chance on her. I'm more than happy with my decision to adopt her and very grateful for their honesty. Freya has had some trust issues but she gets better every day and has not once urinated anywhere but her litter box! Aside from the adopted animals that I've gotten from them I've used their veterinary services for many years and have never had a problem. I always make a appointment and I've never waited long to be called in. The reason I wrote this review was because of the negative reviews that I've read here and I wanted to leave another point of view that has been cultivated over many years with not one negative experience! read more

Arrived Saturday at 3:30 PM with my wife to look for an addition to our familly. Upon arrival at 3:30 PM we were told to take a look and to fill out an adoption sheet when we found one we liked. At 4 PM we went to the desk and I asked to fill out a form and they said sorry it's too late were slammed . I asked if there was anyway we could adopt because my wife had her heart set on a cat that she saw. The female at the front adoption counter said sorry you can come back Tuesday at noon. Unfortunately I don't think will be able to do that and it's a shame that these people are so insensitive.They want to close up shop 30 minutes early and turn people away so they can go home to the nice warm home as these cats are stuck in their cages. TAKE CARE OF PEOPLE THAT ARRIVE AN HOUR BEFORE YOU CLOSE!!!!!!!Pathetic uncaring jerks! If they would've looked at the records they would've seen that I adopted a cat 13 years ago from that facility that I still have and we love very much. I've read some of the other reviews on here and I can see why people are not happy. Think of us when you unfortunately need to euthanize another poor animal because one could have been adopted today. read more

I've been taking my dog and cat here for years and the only reason is because they're the most reasonably priced vet in the area. Trying to call this place is like talking to a wall. You never get a real person on the phone. You get an answering machine and they may or may not call you back. It's the most frustrating thing. If they weren't so cheap for their services I would go somewhere else in a heartbeat. I constantly see about 3 different people at the front desk but not one is ever on the phone. I'm not sure why they have this system but it surely needs to change. Otherwise good doctors who know what they're doing. And again reasonable pricing of service and medications. read more

Their front desk is HORRIBLE. I've been trying to talk to someone for over a week. Every time you call it just says "everyone at the front desk is assisting other people." Okay, that's fine. Then you click the option to wait for the next representative, you wait ten minutes, and it forces you to leave a message anyway. When they finally call back, they let it ring like TWICE before hanging up and if you call back immediately, no one answers. Being animal lovers, we have always had two dogs ( or three ) and a cat or two, for most of our married life. Right now, we are down to two old cats, both of which adopted us. Their names are Kissy Girlfriend and Baby Badness. Kissy will eat anything and loves spaghetti. Badness is very finicky and will only eat the most expensive of canned cat foods. But he loves to be vacuumed! He actually begs for it, when I bring out the machine. We had one neighborhood dog adopt us. The neighbor pretended like it wasn't his dog. They lived about 6 houses up the street and moved shortly after. We named him Puppy Puppy Puppy with the big fat nose! He had a large cancerous tumor on his back, which was easily removed and he lived another 4 years. He was old when we got him and what a love he was ;+} On to the Women's Humane Society. We have rescued dogs our entire life and I have many stories that would rip your heart out, but I'll spare you the details, maybe. The Women's Humane society is dedicated to the prevention of cruelty to animals. They are proud to be the First Animal Shelter in the United States. They are the First to have a Humane Education program, First to have a low cost Clinic, First to have Ambulance service, First to have an Animal Hospital and First to have a Bird Conservation program. They adopt out, Dogs, Cats, Gerbils, Rabbits and Hamsters to good homes. Once you go in and possibly find a dog that you would like to adopt, there is a 2 week waiting period. In this two week time frame, they come out to your property to make sure that you have adequate fencing. You have a meeting with the staff to make sure you are the right owner for this dog and there is interaction time. They will not adopt a Husky out to families with small children or without a certain height of fence. If you work long hours and the dog will be left alone more than so many hours, you may not adopt the dog. I like that! What I do not like are three things. The dogs are rotated, as to when they were brought in and if no interest is shown in the dog, once it gets to the last cage, it is put to sleep. Another thing is some of their investigators for cruelty cases. I have a neighbor, to the back of me, that beats his dogs, throws them, his kid constantly kicks them and they go through dogs like no other. Investigators have gone out twice and looked through windows, as their investigation, because the people were not home and said the dogs looked happy! Third, if you need to have an animal put to sleep, they take the animal and wish you farewell. You can not be with your pet. I hate this, I hate it a lot. We have had several Mutts and loved them all, but we have always been partial to Siberian Huskies. Once we had our Sabrina Girl, who was 1/2 Wolf and 1/2 Siberian Husky, honestly, the most gentle dog we have ever had and she was great with everyone. We adopted our Molly Girl from the Woman's Humane Society, when she was 6 years old and a skinny mistreated Husky she was! Man did that girl eat! She got so fat, that I had to put her on a diet. Last year, we had to put her down and we swore no more Dogs, because it is too heartbreaking. However she had a wonderful 6 years with us and we adopted her when she was in the last cage and they flat out told us, she would have been euthanized the next day, if we had not shown interest in her. She and Chanook, our male Husky tried to determine, who was boss for the entire 6 years they were together. Yet, they would practically sleep on top of each other in the Family room or as they often tried, on the bed. I drive by the Woman's Humane Society a lot and I'm always tempted to go in and have a peek, but I know in my heart, I would fall in love instantly, with not one, but two dogs, so I keep on driving. Right now, the Cats are enjoying THEIR house. read more

There was a little dog hanging directly outside my office for several days, attempting to get in. She appeared to be a stray, malnourished, and had a tumor on her neck. She didn't bark and was constantly shaking out of fear I guess. We called the Women's Humane Society (which is pretty close to us) several times to come pick her up. The first time we called they gave us a police dispatcher's number and that's it. The second time we called they stated they only pick up animals that you own for a fee. They told us to call "animal control" but the number they provided us with was "disconnected." Just found this strange and confusing, because their website says they provide shelter, veterinary services, and adoption for abandoned dogs. It also asks for and receives donations. When we asked for the above, they stated they only provide those services for a charge and to privately owned animals. They were also unable to provide us with accurate information on who to contact for animal assistance. read more

We adopted a Beagle in April 2014. She is such a delight and has quickly become a part of our family. The adoption process was fast and easy. I gave it 4 stars because the front desk staff seems a bit overworked and distracted. Also, there was little to no direction/assistance when you were "shopping" for an animal.
