They happen to make my favorite french fries and a solid burger. I was happy to go in recently and share a burger and steak and frites so that I didn't have to decide between the two. The struggle is real because both are really great. I had a mocktail my friend had a couple of cocktails and we immediately made plans to go back. I went here recently with friends. The server was very rude, and they charge an automatic 20% for tip for a group of four. Usually that only happens with a large group. So apparently you can treat your patrons however you want and still get a hefty tip. The drinks and food are nothing special for Portland. read more

I wandered in while looking for a place for a quick bite while my son was at his tutor. The horseshoe shaped bar is gorgeous, and they have tables all around for those looking for more formal seating. I cannot tell you about much besides my delicious martini and the deviled eggs. I've become a bit obsessed, looking for the best deviled eggs that Portland has to offer. I have to say, I am still on the hunt, but so far Wonderly is top of the list. The space is very dark - not the best place for bringing a book (which I always do). Romantic and intimate, but approachable. Good crowd in on a Wednesday speaks to the popularity of this spot. Bartender was attentive and quick to make recommendations off of my date and I's overheard conversation. As others have mentioned there is a mandatory 20% gratuity baked into the bill but staff circled it on the bill so we wouldn't miss it. Cocktails were up there in price but also up there in quality. Wonderly is a great cocktail bar with a few odd quirks, crammed together next to several other fantastic restaurants (BangBang, Dirty Lettice and Amalfi's) in what is quickly becoming one of our favorite parts of PDX: the Fremont/Beaumont area. Sadly, during all of our visits here, we've been racing against the clock in one form or another, so our experiences have been simply grabbing a quick drink and/or appetizer before jetting off to wherever else we're expected to be. This means we haven't been able to properly vet just about anything on the menu, and that's a shame, because everything that comes out of their kitchen looks incredible. What I can tell you about, however, is the friendliness of the servers (although they seem go MIA, or become easily distracted, on occasion), the quality of the cocktails (a little on the expensive side), the cute interior décor and excellent patio space, and the ease of which we've been able to grab a table, as well as check out and get moving in a hurry, when need be. Our last visit had me ordering my stand-by, and Old Fashioned (incredibly smooth and easy to sip!), a soda water with lime, and a shrimp cocktail. The latter of the three took longer than expected to arrive, and seemed a bit on the small side for $10, but the quality of the shrimp was excellent. Being in a hurry, our server Alex accommodated us well enough, allowing us to pay the bill ahead of time, with the only delay being the aforementioned time it took for the appetizer to arrive. Heads up, though: a 20% gratuity is included on all dine-in orders; if this is mentioned on the menu, I didn't see it ahead of time. Thankfully, Alex helpfully pointed it out by circling it on our receipt, so we would not accidentally double-tip (which we did anyway). Nitpicks aside, Wonderly is a place to which we keep returning, to enjoy a casual drink and enjoy the ambiance, inside and out. It's a cute, cozy place to nestle into on a rainy evening, or take in some sun while sipping a cocktail on the outdoor patio. We'll keep coming back, and hopefully not in a hurry next time, so we can properly dive into that menu! That sounds just Wonder(ful)ly to me! read more

I stopped by Wonderly for a second round of drinks with friends the other night. The staff caught us browsing the menu on the street sign, and invited us to sit down. They were friendly and attentive, bringing waters promptly and pointing out that happy hour was still in effect. Menus were given via QR code and ordering was done at the bar so they easily could have left us to our own devices. There's a lovely street patio and the indoor space is distanced and dimly lit for a great date night. Unfortunately, the drinks were a miss for us. Full price drinks are in the $11-15 range, while happy hour drinks from 5-6pm are closer to $7. My friend went with the happy hour margarita, which came with a nice helping of salt and some kind of spice on the side of the half-cup rather than the rim for easy consumption. My partner got the "Whiskey Drink" from the happy hour menu as well; it had some kind of cherry liquer that was overly strong. I got the full price thyme-based drink which I found underwhelming to slightly unpleasant. So, overall, the staff and atmosphere made this place. I'd be open to giving the drinks another shot at a future happy hour. read more

I've been back a number of times since my initial lengthy review. The whiskey drink on happy hour is a good deal. However, the HH food selection is very weak. So if you're hungry, olives, bread and butter, or a shrimp cocktail might not suffice. You'll need to order off the regular menu, but everything I've tried has been above average. The crowd is mixed, definitely a higher calibre. Lots of retirees, Tommy Bahama shirts, people detailing their vacations. Staff has been polite to friendly, never anything less. This was my first time at Wonderly, and happy I found such a cool spot. The inside has a great vibe, and the outdoor space was the same way along with some sun. We just stopped by for appetizers and drinks. We had the: - cheese curds: AMAZING! Drizzled with honey, perfectly crisp and balanced with sweetness - Fries: Good- Nothing special but they were crispy, and the aioli was good! The Old Fashion was perfect, and on the Happy Hour menu. We came opening evening at 5pm. We sat at the bar which turned out to be an excellent choice as it got busier and a line formed to the door to order. I ordered the most delicious cocktail I've had in a long time called the Banhattan. That brûlée banana topping! Also ordered the cheese curds with hot honey and deviled eggs. Both tasty and it should be noted that the deviled eggs are made with beets! The beet sauce was so good we dipped our cheese curds in it. The staff was tip top. I ordered the Wonderly Old Fashioned - which had a house blend of whiskeys (JTS Bonded, Elijah Craig, and Woodford Reserve). The drink had a good taste and was not sweet at all. We made reservations for our party of 8 having not been but based on a rave recommendation from a friend who also said their Banhattan Cocktail is a must. I left the evening sorely disappointed. The ambiance is pretty minimal and not particularly inviting, my opinion. Now to be fair of our party of 8 six ordered either the burger or chicken sandwich. One couple split their chicken sandwich and burger and were a bit surprised that when they cut the chicken sandwich all of the chicken was on 1/2 of the sandwich. Others enjoyed their burgers as just fine. Two of us ordered a Banhattan. Mine arrived first and I took a small sip. Then the other one arrived and the person said look! Look how much more full your drink is! (See photo) I don't have a habit of complaining but this was ridiculous and we called over the service person who when it was brought to her attention rather than just saying Sorry I'll take care of it began running down a list of every conceivable lame excuse justifying the situation. This sets up a disagreement with the customer which isn't the right thing to do especially when the two cocktails are sitting right there to be observed. After an objection from me she said I'll have them make another one. One person ordered the scallops and as they were not bad or inedible she felt that beet sauce paired on top of scallops was not a good match. The fries we ordered for the table were pretty forgettable and the cheese curds had a nice sweet sauce on them however they were fried too much making them crunchy and cooked to the point of chewy. I ordered the Cobb Salad which came dead last way after everyone else who ordered cooked food had received their dishes and were half way through. The Cobb salad was to have chicken, blue cheese, avocado, bacon and egg. The salad part was totally a heap of frisée. I was surprised as I have never had a Cobb Salad or any salad that was totally all frisée. The chicken arranged on the side was a thin piece of sliced chicken breast which was room temperature and cooked to tough and bone dry. I couldn't find any blue cheese or avocado and yes there was some hard boiled egg on the side which had also been boiled too long and a few pieces of tough bacon. The dressing was a light vinaigrette and was all at the bottom being it was on frisee. I ate a bite of the frisée a bite of the chicken and two pieces of the egg and pushed it aside. I left finding the entire experience not so Wonderly after all. read more

This sliver of Portland is so lucky to have Wonderly! The space is cozy, but on the smaller side, so it can get a little tight even on weeknights. But the bartenders are always on their A-game and very friendly. This is one of the only bars in Portland where I will actually order a cocktail (wine guy here). Their house margarita is deliciously spicy and unique. The chicken sandwich is OK, but the scallops and cheese curds are where it's at.
