It's been chilly here in Florida for the last few days, but tonight wasn't so bad. Regardless, I still wanted some hot soup---wonton soup to be exact. I was in the Pompano Beach area and remembered there was a Chinese restaurant in the Garden Isles Shopping Center. The parking spaces fill up quickly during the evening; luckily, I managed to find one. A pleasant employee greeted me and took my order for a quart of house special wonton soup. I asked the employee if he had fried wonton noodles to go with the soup, and he confirmed that he did. The small restaurant had only a few tables if you chose to eat inside. It offers a wide selection of dishes at reasonable prices. I received my order within minutes and immediately headed home. As I pulled the container out of the bag, I was pleased to see it filled with not only wontons, but also shrimp, chicken, roast pork, carrots, broccoli, snap peas, scallions, celery, and mushrooms all in a flavorful broth. I have ordered them more than three times and they were tough I almost broke my teeth on the ribs they were so tough I wish they would get this together the ribs are not good. We ordered via delivery pork fried rice, shrimp lo mein, egg rolls, and spring rolls. Nothing was good. The rice was dry, the shrimp in the lo mein was tasted like it was past its expiration date when cooked. Both of the rolls were overcooked and lacked flavor. I have no reason to go back to here. It was not horrible but not great either. The dishes we got were fried dumplings, general tso and beef and broccoli. First the dumplings felt like they were cooked in oil that was not good. Also the sauce was too salty. It should have been a bit sweeter. Second the general tso was just ok. The fried rice I couldn't finish. Third the beef and broccoli. The beef was sub par. The rice on this one was white rice and seemed to be microwaved. It's rice, cheap and very easy to make. You know, writing a bad Yelp review goes one of two ways. Sometimes it feels freaking great, like a fantastic coke rush. Oh yeah, tear 'em a new one! Bash that place! They gave me a bad dining experience, so they deserve it! One star, one star! That'll show 'em! But other times, it ain't so great. Sometimes, you are legitimately rooting for a place, and speaking your honest opinion, well it kinda sucks. You feel a little bad that you have to give an unfavorable rating to restaurant where you really feel their intentions are good. Unfortunately for me, this is one of the latter cases. And I'll let you know in advance, I'm not gonna hold back. Here we go.... I really want to like Chinatown Restaurant (the one on Cypress). They're close to my current residence. Their food is VERY affordable. They have a lot of menu options. Their service is quick. The workers are friendly. This place really has a lot going in its favor. But the food is really bad. I like Chinese food a lot, I really do. And this is some of the worst I've had. I've been there twice now, and there wasn't one dish I can say I like. The General Tso's Chicken was soggy with a thick outer coating and not crispy in the slightest. Not the worst I've ever had, but a major disappointment. I usually love General Tso's. The eggplant in the Eggplant with Garlic Sauce was cut poorly, as if the chef had no clue what they were doing. It was greasy, and the sauce was unappetizing. If it weren't for a defunct pizza joint in Orlando (damn you Brooklyn Joe and your awful eggplant parm!), I would honestly say this was the worst eggplant dish I've ever had. My stepmom, who is honestly a pretty bad cook, has served me better eggplant than this. I'm not even joking. The Hot and Sour Soup was appalling. No flavor what so ever. Kinda like somebody spilled water in it. This was the worst hot and sour soup I have ever had. It was so bad I took a picture for you kind Yelpers. Just look at the lack of color. That is a disgrace. The rice was below average. Not the worst I've had, but certainly underwhelming. It did not help any of the sub-par main dishes in any way. All things considered, I'll give Chinatown 2 stars. Their prices are extremely fair, and they have a nice atmosphere for a Chinese take-away. If they found a better chef, they could actually be pretty good. I hope they figure things out. Not only is the food great here, the egg rolls, wonton soup, etc. but the owners/staff are REALLY nice, honest, good people. The vegetables are al dente in most dishes, so fresh and clean tasting. The mei fun is a stand out we always order, delicious and just the right spices. I like the sweet & sour shrimp or chicken, The shredded Szechuan Beef is amazing but you must LOVE carrots, which I do! The House Curry special is also addictive. The orange beef is very good and there are chunks of orange, peel and all!! I've never had it like that before. Some dishes are unique, others more traditional. This is probably our favorite Chinese restaurant in Pompano Beach. read more

Chinatown .. I decided to try this take out spot for the first time last night. It's located across the street from Publix (east side of S. Cypress) in a shopping center housing an Italian restaurant and a few other businesses. We ordered the following and it was hot and ready when I arrived to pick it up: 1. Bourbon Chicken: Delicious. Light -not fried-and flavorful, with chunks of chicken that could, in fact, really be chicken. 2. Eggplant w/ Garlic Sauce: A party for your vegetarian mouth, the eggplant chunks were served in a brown garlic sauce that had a bit of a kick and were quite delicious. This is one of few Chinese take out spots that also list this entree as an option on the combination lunch & dinner menu, and that excites me. 3. Chicken Peanut Szechuan Combination Dinner: Diced chicken (yes, diced into cubes) mixed with a very light sauce, peanuts, water chestnuts, and red and green peppers. I was excited to try this, but unfortunately it was rather tasteless. The menu indicates that this is a spicy dish, but that was far from accurate. The pork fried rice was standard (I did ask if they could sub the pork rice for plain or veggie fried rice instead but was told it was not available) and it came with my choice of soup (egg drop, wonton, hot and sour). Again, the egg drop was good and standard fare, as was the egg roll. 4. A side of white rice was provided too. I like to save the white rice for the next day and reheat it with butter - yum. Do they use MSG in their food? Not sure, but it's possible. Overall, this was your average Chinese take out dinner experience. read more

This is a sign of professionalism, not having to do it, but going that extra distance to avoid any possible customer issue. Item one. On the menu, chow mien. Meat, onions and bean sprouts... Surprised there were no carrots or other veggies, but you get like a pound of this, fills you up and a full portion of rice. The combo meal comes with a vegetable fried roll, two bags of fried noodles, and a soup. The wonton soup was a bit flavorless, and the dumplings themselves were a little thick, not very delicate as I usually expect, but maybe there were hand made... Not sure. Anyways, for a quick service place, in a sketchy neighborhood next to an open air 24 hour laundry service place, I would recommend it. Ordered broccoli beef, orange chicken and honey garlic chicken. The broccoli beef had more broccoli than beef and the "beef" I am not sure was from a cow. The orange chicken looks like orange chicken but didn't have the typical orange zest taste. The honey garlic chicken was puffy but tasteless. ***************MSG ALERT****************** THE BAD: Tried this place for the first time the day before Christmas' Eve and had a terrible and painful reaction to their food, although I did not connect the dots until two days ago when we ordered from them again and had the same reaction the morning after. It took the second time and a doctor visit to realize that it was their food MSG content that caused the symptoms: burning feeling under the skin (fever-like), GI tract problems, headache, nausea, fatigue, and taste bud alteration. Never had this reaction from their competitor Chinese restaurant also in the area. MSG has a neurological effect that makes one think the food tastes better, but this can also mess with one's nervous system, as it did with me. The effect depends on the person. The staff is friendly and their ribs are great compared to other places nearby. THE AVERAGE: They have an average selection. It would be nice to know when places use MSG in their food, as many people have sensitivities. I must be spoiled with the Seattle required disclosure for restaurants. I have no idea what the people reviewing this place are thinking. I ordered my food through UberEats. It was ready fast and dropped off. The food was hot and amazingly delicious. It is the BEST Chinese food I've had since I moved to Florida from Jersey. The chicken rice soup was extremely hot and really good. The egg roll was fantastic. I ordered the sweet and sour chicken but I always get it without the sauce. It was amazing. Very crispy and not soggy and gross like some other places. Great value and some of the best fried rice I've had in years. We came on Christmas day when everything else in the world was closed but this TakeOut place did not disappoint. I recommend the coupon at the bottom of their menu. It was Sesame chicken, wonton soup, pork fried rice, and egg rolls. Enough to feed a family of four plus leftovers for tomorrow all for $20. First 5 star Chinese restaurant I have given. The food is always delivered hot and tastes delicious. I have ordered from 3 different Chinese restaurants in my area for 12 years and this one is the best. I order from them 4x a month. They are near me down the road a mile but they deliver within 15 minutes or less. If you are hungry and on a time crunch they are the fastest. I've picked up and ordered by phone at 1pm. They are knocking at my door at 1:13. No kidding. It has quality taste as well and in 12 years never had a complaint. Try this place. No disappointments and not a bad review. read more
