This is one of our takeout regulars and this time I decided to try something completely different--the Crispy Steak. Now I have to admit, when my butcher recommended their "crispy steak," the idea of a fried steak was NOT particularly appealing to me. But I decided to give it a try anyway, and I was pleasantly surprised! The prime New York steak is only lightly dusted with water chestnut flour, so it's not heavily battered or greasy at all. It just gives the outside a gentle crisp while the steak itself stays perfectly tender. It's thinly sliced and served with sautéed peppers, onions and cabbage in a garlic, soy and burgundy wine sauce. Really, really good! I ordered mine to go, and I have to mention their packaging because I don't know WHAT kind of magic they're doing with these containers, but my food is always still super hot after the 10-minute drive home. Not warm--HOT, like it just came off the stove. I definitely appreciate that with takeout. While I was waiting for my order, I also took some time to admire the many awards displayed throughout the restaurant. Rainbow Palace is clearly an award-winning restaurant, and judging by that collection, they've been collecting accolades for YEARS! The Crispy Steak does cost a pretty penny, so this isn't exactly your inexpensive neighborhood Chinese takeout. But the quality of the ingredients, preparation and portion definitely feel a step above your typical takeout spot. This was hands down one of the worst restaurant experiences I have ever had. It took 1 hour and 15 minutes just to receive our soup. Then we waited another 45 minutes for our entrées. TWO HOURS to have dinner. Our waiter was practically nonexistent. He rarely came to the table, there was no meaningful communication about why everything was taking so long, and we were basically left sitting there wondering if our food was ever coming. After all of that, they had the nerve to charge us full price. No meaningful attempt to make up for the ridiculous wait or the terrible service. When you go out to dinner and are paying restaurant prices, there is a basic expectation of service. This didn't even come close. Two hours. Almost no service. Full-price bill. Completely unacceptable. I would never recommend Rainbow Palace, and I absolutely will not be back. read more

Earnest was our server and he was excellent. He made suggestions that were perfect fur our first time at this restaurant. The soup was great to start followed by the shrimp dumplings. I knew after these starters the meal was going to be exceptionally delicious. I had the orange beef and my wife had the snapper. We accompanied our entrees with the chef special fried rice which was a perfect addition. We finished our dinner with the key lime pie and took home dinner for tomorrow. I didn't mention the Mai Tai and the lichee Martini which were made perfectly. Earnest is a great server who is professional all the way throughout the dining experience. We will return to this not inexpensive establishment but worth the money. Chinese food in Fort Lauderdale is limited and this is steps ahead of Christine Wong. This is a 5 star operation - the service is outstanding I mean true professionals! White table cloths, clean and when the entrees come out (they're all huge and shareable) the waiter will divide it on a plate for you if you'd like. I didn't understand the prices until the food came out. The shrimp and scallops were HUGE. I mean the size of a crab cake almost. The quality and freshness of the seafood makes this place next level. The portions are also large and shareable -- for 2 ppl we had leftovers. I fell in love with the Chinese mustard sauce they put on the table. Added the perfect touch of spice / heat. The food was decent, but a bit pricey for Chinese cuisine. They offered the usual Chinese restaurant menu, along with some unique dishes. Overall, the food was satisfactory, but nothing extraordinary. We ordered a variety of entrées to share, and the waiter portioned out our plates. However, I found the small water and soda glasses to be a bit annoying. Since the glasses were so small, my glass kept going empty before the waiter would refill it. read more

Been wanting to check out Rainbow Palace for years, and it absolutely lived up to the hype. It's an upscale Chinese restaurant with excellent food and beautiful Art Deco decor, which I loved. The restaurant was packed and lively, but not so loud that it interrupted conversation. We started with the wonton soup and shrimp and lobster dumplings. The broth was incredibly flavorful and the wontons were perfectly tender. The dumplings were outstanding packed with lobster flavor and the wasabi-infused dipping sauce was so good we ended up using it on our entrees as well. For mains, we split the orange beef, Hunan chicken, and lo mein. The Hunan chicken was crispy yet tender, and the orange beef was full of flavor without being overly sweet. The lo mein uses thin noodles, which made it especially delicious. Service was exceptional and very attentive throughout the meal. Honestly, it's hard to pick a favorite dish because everything was so good. Ate the leftovers for lunch and it was still so good! Haha! Can't wait to come back read more

Rainbow Palace is a very pretty restaurant, that "happens" to serve Chinese food. I was seated in a cozy front room, newly renovated and decorated with a dark, cozy chinoiserie paper, large fixtures and glass wine case. While waiting for my party to arrive, I perused the wine menu. It was quite extensive. I think an oenophile would be quite happy with the selection offered. I had a Cotes du Rhone (Alain Jaume, $12) that I thoroughly enjoyed. The menu is adequately sized, but I would not say it was extensive. If you are looking for your favorite Sunday eve dish, you may not find it here, but you won't have a problem if you can pivot to another preparation. Dishes ordered at my table were a spring roll, a house special wonton soup (very flavorful) and lobster dumplings for appetizers. If I can be nit-picky, I'd suggest that they change the size of their dishes to smaller plates and bowls. The food looked puny on the large stark-white plates without a garnish, but all the flavors were spot on, so does it really matter? I actually think it does because you can tell that the owners take pride in the details of their establishment. For entree's, we ordered a spicy shrimp dish (4 jumbo, crisp shrimps came in the order), a Grand Marnier crispy beef (4 large pieces), a house fried rice with nuggets of char siu pork, tender baby shrimp, white meat chicken, egg and vegetables and a special of wok fried string beans which was by far the standout of our meal. After supper, we ordered some tea. It was somewhat weak in flavor but that could have been our fault; we did not let it steep long enough. The waiter came by with a tray of delicious-looking cakes to choose from but we declined. Every person that we encountered was nicer than the next. The waiters were knowledgeable and paced our meal well. Prices are not inexpensive, and reservations are definitely suggested. They do takeout as well. read more

Make a reservation!! Parking can get tricky as there are other restaurants in the same area. This restaurant has been here for over 20+ years and has always been really good. Other than that, the place is elegant, and serves delicious Chinese food that is made with fresh ingredients. Not cheap for the type of food it is but very worth it! The sweet and sour chicken, one of the specials of the day when we went was outstanding: crunchy, but juicy, chunks of pineapple. Probably the best dish we tried that night! I had been waiting a long time to try this place! The restaurant is so clean and the ambiance is very chic. My critique, however, is that the taste and portion sizes of the food do not justify the ridiculousness of the price points. Paying almost $50 for four shrimp? Outrageous. Had dinner with a friend tonight, and as usual the service was exceptionally nice. The quality of the ingredients are always in evidence here at rainbow Palace. Their house special wonton soup Reali is elevated compared to Buffalo vocal competition. The broth is clear and flavorful, the wontons delicious the shrimp, firm, and fresh and the knife cuts on the little green vegetables were the of a chef competition show. The ingredients starred in the seafood hong Kong, but the seasoning was really missing tonight. Adding a little soy sauce helped, but this was basically a bland and under seasoned dish. Absolutely the best of the best. Ate there 16 times from January through May 20th. My wife has Celiac and therefore cannot have gluten. Kenny, the owner, makes sure she is well taken care of. In fact their kitchen does not have regular flour in it. They use Chestnut flour instead. The fried Calamari is unbelievable. (and we are Italian) Check them out. You won't be disappointed. Rainbow Palace has amazing service--even with six very indecisive women at our table! We took a while to figure out what we wanted, but the staff was incredibly patient and welcoming the entire time. The portions are huge, which was a nice surprise. I ordered the Hunan Country Chicken, and it had the kick I was looking for! I ended up taking half of it home and had enough for lunch/dinner the next day. If you're planning to visit, I highly recommend making a reservation, especially if you want to go for Chinese New Year--this place fills up fast! I have a good friend who recommended this restaurant saying it was the best Chinese food in Florida. I was looking forward to it. I sat down. My first course was duck soup. Right away I knew I was in trouble. The soup was horrible. It came with two small pieces of duck that taste metallic. They loaded it up with a bunch of cheap noodles. It was nothing with nothing. Unfortunately We had already ordered several more dishes, including lobster shrimp dumplings, seafood fried rice that seemed like it was packaged rice with frozen warmed up vegetables. We had an order of spring rolls . It came with 2 small spring rolls Which really seems like they were frozen from a box and warmed up in an air fryer. There after we shared calamari, which was OK. It was nothing really it was just a lot of poor quality food. I am totally disappointed. Go straight here if you crave authentic Chinese Food! Honestly, this is the only spot for amazing authentic Chinese food in Broward, Palm Beach and Miami. Rainbow palace is located in an assuming strip mall with several local restaurants - actually I want to check those out soon too! You'll realize that parking can but distant as it is just one long row of spots. The menu is extensive, featuring a variety of northern and southern Chinese dishes...pork, chicken, beef,duck and vegetarian options are all available. The staff at the door is very friendly. After entering you'll see a bar to your right, a smaller dining room straight ahead and the main dining room to the left. All tables are covered in white table cloth and there is a lovely wine display area for great instagram photos! We had two waiters servicing our table. They could not have been more different so the blend of them was perfect. One was overly friendly - commenting on our outfits and over sharing about his ex girlfriend. The other - stressed out and motioning us to hurry things along. We loved them both One of our appetizers was the vegetable soup - honestly, it was kind of bland but we drank it all! We also had the prawns and they were delightful. The main course included vegetable lo main, schezuan shrimp, chicken in white wine sauce, hunan chicken bok choy, and vegetable fried rice. For three people that was more than enough! All were absolutely divine. If you like pepper, you'll need to ask for some on the side. The prices were very reasonable for such great food. But, if you are comparing this to an ordinary local Chinese restaurant you'd say it was pricey. The average main courses run between $35 and $45 on average. If I had to share a downside, it would be that the food didn't come out piping hot. It was "very warm". As you can see nothing so severe as to take away my five star rating!! However, I cannot give this restaurant five stars because the menu is restricted and tells heavily on pork, shrimp, and vegetarian offerings The beef selections are minimal and very expensive while the soup offerings begin and end with wonton. My wife and I had a wonderful night out. The food was delicious. And yet, I'm feeling resentful because I was settling for the food that I didn't want less than anything else on the menu so that I wouldn't spoil the evening. And I had to pay for that experience. I went there when I was on vacation and I was astonished at how wonderful the food was. I am not a fan of Chinese food, but this was more like an upscale Asian restaurant you would find in a hip area of Manhattan. The decor is unique and beautiful, modern with touches of antiques that makes for a warm ambience. The service was impeccable and the wine list was so extensive I could barely make up my mind. I visit South Florida often and already know that I will be making a reservation at Rainbow Palace whenever I am in town. I recently had dinner there and I had the crispy steak and it was the best steak I have ever had and worth every penny. This is not a column A, column B Chinese restaurant. You're not going to find the typical items you would find at a typical Chinese restaurant, and it's not going to be as affordable as your typical Chinese restaurant. But, nonetheless the food is fantastic, I've never been disappointed, and it is worth every single penny. I am already craving that steak and I was just there less than two months ago! I might have to pay a visit to South Florida, just to have crispy steak and a nice glass of red wine and the chocolate mousse cake, even if I have to go alone! The bar area is actually very nice and One could sit there and have dinner at the bar by themselves without looking or feeling weird dining at a fine restaurant alone. I can't say enough good things about Rainbow Palace. It's been around for as long as I have been visiting Fort Lauderdale/South Florida. I don't write a lot of reviews, but after eating at Rainbow Palace for 20 years, I felt like I should write this review because of how many times I have gone there and never had a bad experience, only wonderful experiences. It is also one of the most expensive Chinese restaurants in South Florida. The restaurant is definitely fancier than most Chinese restaurants. The service was pretty slow and the food was just okay. The Shrimp and Lobster Dumplings and the Roast Duck with Portabella Mushrooms and Asparagus were both pretty good. The Shrimp Gwin Jin was awful -- the shrimp were way too fried (too much breading) and the sauce was overly sweet; for $45, this was upsetting. 5 stars! Run don't walk here, but first make a reservation! We were thoroughly impressed with Rainbow Palace. Seeing as how there aren't many sit down Chinese restaurants in the area, we were looking forward to coming. We followed Yelpers' advice and made reservations. Good thing we did because the place was packed to the brim including the bar. Service is exemplary and very old fashioned glamour. The waiters are all in suits, food is brought to the table on carts and plate ware and cutlery are rotated out. Very upscale. We had the egg rolls and lobster wontons for appetizers. The trifecta of sauces that were served were all delicious. Be mindful of the mustard looking one, it's super spicy. For dinner, we had the orange beef and special fried rice. The best darn beef I've ever had. We took some home for leftovers the next day and gobbled it right up. For dessert, we had the strawberry shortcake which was the sweetest ending to our night. It's a little pricey so we can't put it on the rotation, but we'll definitely be coming back when we're feeling for something special. read more
