We recently had a get together with friends and got takeout Chinese from May's. Unlike other places around, their prices have not risen astronomically since the pandemic. Most of the items have gone up like 50 cents or $1 in the past two years. Good job May's. The place is a literal "hole in the wall" where there's no table seating nor service and everything is take out. They do deliver within a certain mile radius, so check with them if interested. - The boneless ribs were delicious, sweet and tender. - The moo shu pork came with 4 pancakes per order but lots of pork and vegetables in the full size container....so if you are not set on the "pancake" experience, you can definitely have meat and veggies to put on rice, noodles, salads, etc.... - The Singapore rice noodles had a nice touch of curry, spice and fresh veggies. - The chicken with ginger and scallions was very flavorful and tasty as well...lots of scallions and vegetables as well. - The beef with snow peas had lots of snow peas and a good amount of tender meat slices. We had the distinct pleasure of attending a wonderful dinner party with friends with takeout food from this Chinese restaurant. It was coincidence that it took place in time for a celebration of the Lunar New Year. This "hole in the wall" restaurant has been in Pompano for as long as I can remember. It's set back off Federal Highway. I've driven past here a million times, but it always looked too shady to stop at -- even though I'd read some good reviews. This party invitation was a perfect opportunity to try their cuisine when one of the hosts had highly recommended them. We got to try their Singapore rice noodles, beef with snow pea pods, a chicken dish with scallions (?), boneless pork ribs, and moo shu pork with pancakes. Although the rice noodles dish is usually one of my favorite dishes and I liked it, their version when we tried it was a bit too spicy for me to have more than one serving. My favorites of the evening turned out to be the pork dishes -- both the boneless ribs and the moo shu which came with soft pancakes and hoisin sauce, as well. Portions were large enough that we all got to bring home extra servings. I'm so glad we finally got to try their food. Now we can comfortably try more of their menu in the future. read more

We did take out from here yesterday. I was almost in tears as it's the first good Chinese food I've eaten in five years. We live in Boca and have tried every place, would not return anywhere. May's was wonderful! Nothing was soggy, or too sweet, or too small of a portion. Best General Tso's chicken I've ever had. And the Mongolian beef and dumplings were very good too! The other gentleman was there the entire time I was so not sure what happened with him. After 8 minutes of surveying and studying the menu I was ready to order. AND. I WAS READY TO ORDER and I was waiting and ready to order. Nothing. I did hear someone in the kitchen cooking and stirring but no one came to the counter to take an order or check on the other fella. Max and I are lucky to have wonderful friends who said that we should meet at their place for Sunday dinner. Each couple chipped in and had enough for take home after the takeout. Good Chinese food. We are normally Sushi snobs but I love these mom and pop Chinese kitchens all over the world. It's just good east coast Chinese takeout at competitive prices. While visiting my mom in Florida I had a craving for Chinese food having had it in NYC two weeks ago. My mom suggested May's kitchen, a take out place. Driving up is underwhelming to say the least. But those little holes in the wall places are usually the best - just watch episodes of Triple D. We ordered two dinner specials: Szechuan Shrimp and General Chow's chicken. Both came with an egg roll and soup. We chose a mixed soup and a hot & sour soup. I also ordered BBQ ribs. The egg rolls were good. The mixed soup was tasty. The hot & sour was good and hot, not just fire hot but spicy hot. The ribs were delicious as were the entrees. The only problem, which is not really a problem, there was too much food. We had leftovers for the next day. Prices were very good. $40 for all that food. Ya got to love when you can eat for two days for forty dollars. Their menu is very extensive having everything you can think of or want from a Chinese restaurant. I know next time I'm in Florida, if I'm looking for Chinese takeout, I'll be ordering from May's Kitchen. read more

I just wanna say, do not judge a book by its cover. What looks like a dirty hole in the wall is actually one of the best takeout Chinese restaurants in the area! The first thing I always get here are their delicious eggrolls, fried rice, and their wonton soup. Yeah it's the basics but it's so so good. When I'm super hungry, then I like to get their crab Rangoon and any type of shrimp dish since I'm a pescatarian. It's a tiny place -should get a makeover but more importantly-our order of beef and broccoli was great-not greasy and the beef was tender ! Ordered Chinese from them last night (New Years Eve) as we have done in 15+ years. Throughout the past year we have ordered food from Mays and each time food was not the same. (Hit or miss) Last night was the last time we will go there. Prices online are not what they charged us. Everything was $4-6 more than what was listed. We questioned them and they said online prices are not right and gave us a new menu. We get home and nothing was fresh, hot or flavorful. Quality of the food changed. Vegetables were mushy. (Not sure what the chow mein had in it, low mein was gross, crunchy pieces and no flavor, special fried rice was not the same). The only thing that everyone liked was the egg roll. Very disappointing. 8 adults and 3 kids who have eaten here for many years all thought the same. Someone please recommend a good Chinese place we can go to in 2024. read more

Before relocating to South Florida 2 years ago, I lived in the San Francisco Bay Area for 20 years, where the largest and oldest Chinese and Chinese American population lives, so I know a little bit about Chinese food! Be aware that their prices have gone up quite a bit compared to the prices you may find for their dishes listed on different sites, and because they don't have their own website, you don't know the price unless you pick up a menu there. This "Chinese" restaurant has been around for almost 40 years and for good reason: they figured out how to serve "Americanized Chinese Food" to fit the needs of a non-Asian, white, black and latino population in the area. I ordered three dishes: Hunan chicken, Szechuan chicken, and chicken and eggplant in garlic sauce. These are three dishes with distinctly different sauces. Guess what? When I got home and saw the food, especially after tasting the food, all three dishes had nearly identical sauces with tiny variations (if you could call it even variation). All three sauces were practically simplified, "non-offensive", garlic sauces and none were spicy at all. Huh? They also used a full mix of multiple vegetables in all three dishes, which again, is not authentic. Those three dishes do not come each with a mix of 7 or 8 different vegetables, identically used in the three dishes! If you want "Americanized Chinese Food" with fresh vegetables, moderate prices and large portions you can get food here; however, if you want authentic Chinese food, you should go to Firi Bistro a couple of miles away or even Peking Duck (ok food) down the road. read more

I need to leave an update here. I no longer order from May's Kitchen. The food was always good, but it was never spicy enough for my liking. This was a constant problem. One day I tried ordering in the native Mandarin tongue. I requested my food "Ma La Extra Spicy Ma La". They gave it to me mild as all day. I'm done here. Am I going to dock my rating? No. The food is still tasty, but I'm just done with their mild nonsense. I ordered from this place time after time after time. I kept asking "May" or whoever to give me spicier entrees. It never happened. And for that, they have lost a customer who would otherwise order from them 2-3 times per week. May's Kitchen, you can keep your 5-star Yelp rating. But you have lost my business. And all you had to do was throw in some damn chili peppers and this would have never happened. Bye bye May May. read more

To be completely honest our food was delivered fairly quickly and was hot. However food tasted like it was someone's first attempt at making Chinese food. Pepper steak combo was bland very little peppers, pork fried rice seemed like had missing ingredients to qualify as authentic. The sesame chicken was bland. Wonton soup seemed watered down. The egg rolls tasted like they where freezer burned prior to cooking and had a funny taste to them. Will never ever patronize this establishment again.
