I have always loved ships. I've toured a handful of historic ships over the years. U.S.S…read more Constitution? Check. WWII submarine? Check. Mid-19th-century schooner? Check. Early 20th-century Great Lakes freighter? Hmm... So perhaps this ship does not have the romanticism or historical significance of the others. It is an impressive sight, quite long and stolid. In operation from 1911 to 1980, it was the largest freighter in the world when launched and set some cargo records during its first few years before being eclipsed by ever-advancing technology. It was also well known for luxury which supposedly rivalled the famous trans-Atlantic liners. Up to the modern day it is recognized as a relic of the so-called Golden Age of Great Lakes shipping, but although I respected its achievements, I couldn't quite conjure up the reverence and awe that it seemed to be asking for. Obviously the ship has seen better days, but it could be spiffier. Many spots need a buff with Rust-Away and a new paint job. In any case, this would be a fun place to take the kids, and frankly it's one of the few things worth doing or seeing in Toledo.

The facilities are nice and they have a separate area for young adults that's apart from the kids which I always think is important. As far as online goes, they are part of the Ohio Digital Library so you get access to everything through Overdrive online, which is great. They seem to have quite a few activities going on all of the time like tutoring from BGSU students for reading for kids, seniors activities, story time for children, etc.

The first few years I lived in fostoria Ohio I was a renter and things seemed to go well for the most part. After moving onto Mcdougal street in 2008 my views of fostoria Ohio started to change. I have what I consider "carefree" neighbors that liked to party until all hours of the night. They also have several dogs without leashes that use my property for the bathroom and bark all hours of the day and night. Some neighbors leave their children unattended and there are adults that yell obscenities throughout the neighborhood in front of little children as well. I had contacted the dog warden. NOTHING! I contacted the humane society. NOTHING! I contacted the Mayor of fostoria ohio Mr.Keckler. NOTHING! I am told there is nothing I can do about the barking but then read in the paper that on a nicer street in fostoria Ohio that a person was fined for their dog barking. Someone else was fined because of their dog using someone else's property to use the bathroom. Yet nothing can be done for mcdougal Street. Then there is a tree on the boulevard that is starting to die and has several large branches that fall when it is windy out. This tree also has branches that are wrapped in electrical lines so I refuse to go "trim" it myself! When I spoke with someone from City Council about this tree I was told it is my responsibility because the tree is not completely dead. So I should put my life in danger to trim out dead branches so I don't get sued when these branches fall on either a person or car! I am learning that being a resident of fostoria Ohio for me is a horrible experience. The way we are treated is flabbergasting! My children do not receive a proper education from the local school system. Look up the facts yourself! The school system is on academic probation because of poor teaching. My children will be doing open enrollment at another school next year and we will be leaving fostoria ohio for good as soon as we can. I am sure many other will follow. In my opinion this town is getting worse and worse and is not the ideal place for raising smart,successful children!

I rarely leave with less than the limit of the number of titles that can be checked out. The building and the grounds are really beautiful, with ample parking. I love a branch where the patrons behave themselves! The seating is plentiful inside, with some nice easy chairs scattered throughout. My only wish is that the state of Ohio shifts come funding back to our library system so the hours could improve!
