Bar area with five televisions for football
    Dan R.

"I'm not no red football To be kicked around the garden" (Sinead O'Connor) If you live in Connecticut, the odds are pretty damned good that you've visited one of Wood n Tap's ten locations, including one just over the state line in West Springfield, MA. They offer very good casual dining, a nice bar, and a great Happy Hour menu. Today, we discovered they also feature a pretty sweet NFL Game Day menu available only for "Dine In Bar Room" customers. We were driving home from Boston while listening to the NY Giants-Cleveland Browns game on my phone, it was 2:30, and we were hungry. My wife had a brainstorm to stop for lunch at Wood n Tap to catch some of the game on FOX TV. We sat in the bar and saw they had five televisions up on the walls, showing a variety of games. The Giants game seemed to be their primary offering because the audio feed was piped into the bar, and eventually, I discovered it was also piped into their Unisex restroom. Their NFL Game Day Menu had some awesome values on it. For $12.99 you can choose from Bites-n-Chicks (Mini chicken sliders served on potato rolls with French fries, Bar Bites (mini Angus burgers topped with American cheese, pickles and house made Honey Dijon), an Angus burger topped with American Cheese, pickles, onion and a tangy sauce, Bar Chicks (Blackened chicken with American cheese, caramelized onions and chipotle aioli, or Island Chicks (Caribbean seasoned grilled chicken with citrus slaw and mango aioli). These deals are available Monday, Thursday, and Sunday during NFL games. I went with a bowl of their Chili ($8.99) and my wife ordered the Bar Bites mini burgers with Tater Tots ($12.99). I loved the flavor of the chili, plenty of ground meat, onions, beans, a dollop of cheddar, and some sneaky heat. It was served with five tortilla chips wedged into the bowl. My only complaint is that the portion size seemed a little light. Yes, it was served in a big bowl, but I doubt there was more than an inch and a half of chili inside that cavernous bowl. The hamburger sliders were great, as were the Tater Tots, but let's be honest, Tater Tots are ALWAYS great, aren't they? When our bill came, we were surprised to see the burgers rang up at the regular price of $16.99 instead of the football special deal at $12.99. We questioned our server, who didn't seem to know much about the football specials, but when we showed her the football menu advertising the sliders at $12.99, she apologized and admitted she didn't realize that was the case. At least she honestly admitted her mistake and rang up a new bill for us.

I enjoyed my dinner here on Cinco de Mayo. There was an awesome trivia host and $3 margaritas on Cinco de Mayo for patrons who have the mobile app! I recommend requesting ranch dressing on the side for the Cajun flatbread, as it is dry.

Not bad, but not good either. Relatively inexpensive bar food, enough to fill the belly but not anything to excite the tastebuds. My first stop on my Nachovember trek is the closest locale to me. I've been to Wood-n-Tap once before, and it was relatively expensive bar food. Not tasty and not worth the price. I am happy to report that they have fixed the price problem, but kept the quality issues. The location is relatively nice, although the parking lot is a bit of a nightmare. the inside is relatively low-lit but clean. We got seated quickly, and although our server was inattentive we were able to bug other servers to get things like napkins and refills on drinks. The food did eventually come out, and the nachos were the first item out. The portion was actually kind of massive! For the price, the portion was very large and there was plenty of toppings covering each one. The sweet potato fries were crisp and flavorful, and when pared with the dijon dipping sauce led to this nice sweet and tangy flavor combo which worked out well. The other items did kind of fall flat. The wings were small and overcooked, the flatbread was sparse on toppings and lacked any real flavor. Even the nachos were bland, which was weird because they took the time to actually fry up the chips but not season them. I could tell they fried them in house because they didn't drain them fully, so a bunch of chips were very greasy. I struggled on what to rate these guys, but opted for 3 because although our food was not great it was still edible. For some bars, they can get by with basic but filling food. So long as the clientele are drinking, then basic food can be enough. For people looking for a good meal though, it's not anything special.

Wood & Tap has unfortunately gone down hill over the years. The food is okay and not make with very high quality ingredients. The drinks are okay. Service is okay.

We have been coming here for years and love it! Tasty adult beverages, excellent apps and well-price happy hour. I love the Mac and cheese, it has just a hint of spice, and I always add grilled chicken. I have enough leftovers for at least another meal. Love the hummus platter appetizer, fresh red onions, black olives, tomatoes and plenty of celery, carrots and soft pita chips for dipping. Yummy!

Just myself and a couple other patrons at far sides of the place. Bartender was playing waitress as well. Very nice but very casual. Opted for their fruit juice mocktail and the jammin burger with loaded fries. Food and drink came out quick, so I took my pics and dug in. The mocktail was pretty much orange and pineapple juice with a fruit garnish. It was fine for what you got, and the price was reasonable at 4 bucks. Nothing special, but something to sip on if you're with company. The burger was executed flawlessly. Cooked well, not seasoned but done so with intention. The buttered bun and jam were salty to begin with, so they chose to unseason the burger, relying on the condiments to balance the dish out. The chef has skill, and you can tell it by their preparation. The trouble was the quality of the ingredients. The burger is straight ground meat, pressed to a patty and frozen. The chef did what they could to gussy up the burger, but was working with ingredients they could not control. When they had control in the ingredients and preparation, they put in care. The actual burger patty was very much the biggest detriment to the dish. The fries were good, cheap cheese and bagged fries but ample amounts of toppings and cooked perfectly. Good, but there's evidence that there could be something better. As a chain location tied to a bowling alley, it's perfectly fine pub bites. The servers are nice, but I feel that the chef is constrained. If given the opportunity, the chef could produce some magic on the plates. but they are stuck to the playbook, the source ingredients and the margins they need to stay in. That cheapens the food to cookie cutter molds and is a crying shame. The foods acceptable, the staff is good, and the venue is clean. One day I hope they can shed the chain and let the chef take the wheel. till then though, it's okay

While technically a sports bar, the food and drink quality is way above a normal sports bar. Right off the bat they serve waters. For mg first drink, I'm having a Black Manhattan made with Elijah Craig Small Batch, Carpano Antica, black walnut bitters and filthy cherries. Filthy Black Cherries are premium, all-natural Italian Amarena cherries, slow-cooked in copper pots and widely recognized as a top-tier garnish for whiskey and tequila cocktails, such as Old Fashioneds and Manhattans. Known for a sweet-tart flavor profile, they are a favorite among professional bartenders for their firm texture and rich syrup. The Manhattan is a classic, spirit-forward cocktail made with whiskey (traditionally rye), sweet vermouth, and Angostura bitters, stirred with ice and strained into a chilled glass, typically garnished with a maraschino cherry or a lemon twist. It's known for being strong, sophisticated, and balanced, with a mix of spicy, sweet, and bitter notes. This is real good. It is nicely garnished and perfectly balanced. I think the bartender is the owner. For out first appetizer, we are getting the Fornarelli's Meatballs. These are these of their "famous" meatballs made with their signature marinara sauce with fresh basil and mozzarella. These are good! Wow! We are next getting the Onion Rings which are their signature house-made onion rings fried golden brown with chipotle aioli. Yep. These are good! I like the sauce! For our third appetizer, we are getting the Sicilian Calamari which is fresh calamari and hot cherry peppers fried with their signature marinara sauce. These are tasty! I love the sauce! Sprinkle that lemon! For my next drink, I'm having the Pearly Old Fashioned made with Maker's Mark, filthy cherries, Cara Cara orange, raw sugar and Angostura bitters. It's known for being strong, sophisticated, and balanced, with a mix of spicy, sweet, and bitter notes. Oh yeah! This is well garnished and perfectly balanced. For my entree, I'm having the Chicken Piccata made with chicken breast sautéed with artichokes and capers in a white wine sauce and chefs choice of starch and veggies. This is delicious! I love the sauce! For dessert, I'm having the Nonna's Tiramisu. This is their authentic tiramisu recipe just like Nonna used to make! We are also getting the Covonut Gelato Truffle made with coconut gelato, mango sorbet center enrobed by chocolate and coconut flakes. This is the biggest chunk of tiramisu I've ever had! What a great meal here!

We had a group of 8 ppl excited to try this place out. As soon as we walked through the door everyone in the establishment stared at us as they whispered. The crowd was far from inviting or friendly. We approach the bar and on 2 occasions the folks playing pool told us we were in their way..(understandable..@Racks why place pool tables so close to the bar that makes it difficult for a large party to be able to order drinks??) Most of our party was able to order their drinks except for my self..my brother and a friend. A Man(brown skin) we DIDNT KNOW approached the bar and had an exchange of words with one his bartenders following up on a question he asked her to to confirm with the owner. She became flustered told him off claiming he was disrespectful etc..( this guy was by far very polite to her while I was standing there and was following up on the price of 10 shots) She DEFINITELY over reacted and made me feel very uncomfortable. She walks to the back.. at that point a friend of ours reached over to get the drink the bartender poured for him before she walked away and left us unattended wondering wth just happened. The Jameson bottle she used was empty and our friend thought it would be comical to pick up the empty Jameson bottle and make a sad face that there was no more since we needed a 2nd drink of Jameson. Bad timing to say the least..the owner/bartender approaches the bar ready for WAR! The owner points at us 4 ALL OF YOU ARE OUT OF HERE** I'm bewildered as to why he started yelling at us as if we were a problem when we we were not with the guy that the bartender had an issue with. ( PERHAPS..WAS IT BECAUSE I TOO AM BROWN SKINNED..AND WE MUST BE TOGETHER RIGHT???) At that point I gave the owner the benefit of the doubt and told him ," can I please talk to you privately its my brothers birthday and we don't know that guy". He says if its anything to do about this situation he doesn't want to hear it and we have to go!!!! I couldn't help but feel singled out and a sense of racism when he spoke and looked at us..to be quite honest this place was about 98% white..the guy at the bar (told to leave) with his friends were also colored..Come on!! I'm by far the last person to play the race card...but the way we were treated, lack of customer service or understanding from the owner screams if you're not local or their people ..YOU'RE NOT WELCOMED!!
