This has been one of the worst rental experiences I've ever had. When I moved in, the entire unit was filthy -- greasy cabinets, a fridge with a horrible smell, an oven caked with old grime, and dirt stuffed into the crevices of machines. The floors were so sticky my shoes literally stuck to them.
Management did replace the oven and cleaned the kitchen after I visited leasing office several times, but it was still far from truly clean.
On top of that, packages go missing here -- yes, theft is a real issue. The common areas are just as bad, with dirty stairs littered with cigarette butts and even dirty socks.
The entire drainage system in the unit is broken except for the kitchen sink. The bathtub and bathroom sink drains were clogged, so during the first five days after moving in, I had to go to the gym to shower and brush my teeth in the kitchen. I have recorded all of these.
I once asked the Better Business Bureau (BBB) to help resolve these problems. However, the apartment management lied to the BBB, falsely claiming that I requested to change the color of the oven and refrigerator. I swear I never asked for color changes -- I only asked for the unit to be cleaned.
After moving in, I found the small bathroom carpet to be extremely dirty (see attached). I asked if it could be fixed or replaced with hard flooring (since carpets in bathrooms easily develop mold). They said the apartment style should be consistent, so I agreed to just have it shampooed, which I believe is a reasonable request.
When I raised these issues with the Better Business Bureau (BBB), management responded by saying, "Those items were promptly resolved, including additional cleaning and the installation of a different color of appliances, which are typically only available in upgraded units." This makes it sound like having a clean apartment is some kind of special luxury benefit -- which is absolutely ridiculous. Cleanliness is a basic expectation, not an upgrade.
Furthermore, management told the BBB that "In the weeks that followed, the resident requested further changes to her apartment that exceed the standard features of her current unit type, such as replacing standard carpet." This is misleading because my carpet request was simply for repair or cleaning due to poor condition, not an upgrade, and I clearly stated I understood if they could not replace it with hard flooring.
They did offer me $300 compensation and said I could move to a different unit, but I no longer trust any unit in this complex.
Furthermore, on July 14th (I moved in in July 5th), management told me I could break my lease without an additional fee. I sent a confirmation email on the Saturday of the same week to double-check this. However, they said I would still have to pay a buyout fee.
I deeply regret moving in. Save yourself the stress, disappointment, and money -- look elsewhere. read more
