I'm not a golfer. Which makes this review even more beneficial because those of us who don't golf can still enjoy the environment there. The course has a walking path that goes all the way around the course out to Woodman Avenue back into Lake Balboa Park and then returns to the golf course. I'm not sure how long the walk is, but it's pretty decent if you want exercise. The walking pup is all been empty most of the time. Not too many people know about it. So it's clean and cluttered and easy to navigate. I like to take my dog there early in the morning before it gets too hot. There is also a nice little café there with pretty good food. And lots and lots of sports screens. So if you're a sports but and you like to play foosball and pinball, you should check this place out. I would be surprised if they have less than 50 sports screens Oh yeah, and you can also play golf read more

I had a pretty disappointing experience checking in. When I arrived, the staff member at the front desk didn't acknowledge me at all, which set a negative tone right away. I had already paid for my round through GolfNow, and it didn't include a cart, so I asked about renting one. I was asked if I wanted to share a cart with someone else, but there was no one else to share with, as our group was only three people. Despite that, I was charged $36, essentially paying for two seats instead of just one. The lack of communication and the way the situation was handled felt unprofessional and unnecessary. Hopefully management can improve customer service and be more transparent about cart fees in the future read more

I appreciate this course, as it has a lot of slots for the range. Even though it is busy, there's a fast turn over and there will be slots open again. They also maintain their grass well. I love that this spot is close to me. I quite come often to this range just to practice my swings and de-stress. I also love the view! Easy parking and they have a sports bar if you need food and drinks after golfing. read more

Everyone was out on the putting greens just having a good time. Not a care in the world playing at their own pace. Also people, just lounging and watching. Plenty of parking as there's a nice lot near the driving range. Pop into the restaurant for a drink or grab some food before, during or after your round. I came in tonight on May 7, 2026 And the African-American gentleman worker started packing up around 8:22 when I had previously called in hours ahead and they said last balls are 9:00/9:30 and he closed down the balls at 8:22 and when I said you guys don't close till nine he got in my face to try to fight with me I am 16 years old. My brother is 11 My dad was using the rest of our balls every time we come in, he gives people attitude. It's very nasty and he's always getting in someone's face. Recommend do not go if you have children or a family because they are very harsh and rude ! read more

Five Stars - Great Day at Woodley Lakes Golf Course! Had an amazing time golfing at Woodley Lakes Golf Course! The course was in great shape--beautiful layout and a fun challenge from start to finish. The staff was excellent across the board. We had lunch inside before our round and were so hungry we ended up grabbing food again on the course. Huge shoutout to Natalie, the cart girl--we ran into her twice and she was fantastic both times. Super friendly, professional, and brought great energy. She really added to the experience. It looked like they might've been a little short-staffed, but you'd never know it. Woodley Lakes is a cool course and definitely one of the more forgiving ones out there. It's super wide, which makes it great for all skill levels. You don't have to worry too much about slicing one into the trees, which is always a plus. The carts are actually pretty nice. They come with Bluetooth so you can bump your own music while you play, and they also show the yardage for each hole, which is really helpful. Only thing is... they drive soooo slow. Feels like you're crawling from hole to hole sometimes. Other than that, our group had a great time and we'll definitely be back. Solid course, fun layout, and just an overall good time. read more

I like Woodley. For me it's close and easy to get into. It's not the most difficult course, but it's longer than most city courses, and for me, fun. I always play first light. I enjoy the regulars that are out at that time. Good people, and they can play and get around the course. 18 holes took us 3:15 minutes walking today. I've played all over the Los Angeles area, and for only $51 or so dollars you can't beat it. read more

Played here a week ago, its one of the few courses you can regularly book with a LA City Player's Card once the Griffith courses get booked up. Nice wide course with a grass driving range. Greens were in great shape, and tee times were spaced out enough where our foursome wasn't rushed or had to wait excessively. That said, fairways are baked out, there are no real cart paths (just dirt roads), and the tee boxes needed to be in better shape. read more

Beautiful golf course, but my car got robbed at the parking lot even though I parked in the place where loads of cars are parked. (I was at the golf course waiting for my family). The thief break into my car, stole all of the cards, made the transaction of $2,500. Thankfully, every transaction was declined thanks to my banks. Awful. The only thing more disgusting than the course condition was the attitude of the starter. At 9:55 AM, we attempted to check in for a 10 AM tee time and, Phil - the starter, claimed we missed it. Phil pushed us an hour and a half, and when I calmly challenged his reasoning he began to raise his voice and act very disrespectful. It was insulting and yet I also felt sorry and embarrassed for him. But that quickly faded when he screamed at me, "If this was a professional tournament, you would need to be here 20 min early." Professional tournament?? It's Woodley Lakes! There's more litter and dirt than there is grass. I then called Phil out on his behavior and without apologizing he began to justify himself by saying, "I'm getting emotional because I've been awake since 3AM". I couldn't help but tell the other pleasant and mature employees about my run in with him to which they all replied, "oh, yeah. That's Phil. He's a prick." Apparently everyone who works there can't wait for the other starter - some guy named Bobby - to return from vacation. We quit the round after playing 12 holes of dirt ball and stepped over a homeless man sleeping next to my car on the way out. If they comped my green fee for life, I still would not return. I'll give it a 10/100 because it's technically a golf course, they having working carts and the bartender & cart girl were very nice. read more

You get what you pay for here... Flat course with below average greens. Great spot for beginner golfers trying their first 18 hole course. Or someone desperate for a tee time. Typically booked up by old men or newbies. Great up side is that it has a grass range!!! Chipping and putting area isn't bad. People hate on Woodley but it's a beginner spot ran by the city... what do you expect. Course is 3 star at best but 4 start because it's a perfect spot for beginners with a grass range!! read more

I probably could have rated this course one star higher because overall I had a great time playing this course despite the lack of the cart path. However after my experience on hole 16 Woodley lakes is a course I will not be returning to. Playing in a tournament, a female approached our game in a cart. She very rudely stated that she was there to babysit us. Unaware of anything, we tried to ignore her, but she decided to clap her hands and yell that it shouldn't take 6 hours to play a round of golf and that she got 16 calls that it was to slow. While I understand that she was mad of having to do her job of taking phone calls, what did not make sense is that she was approaching the last group of the tournament. The delay that she was talking about happened way before my group. Instead of her doing her due diligence and finding where the delay happened, she just decided to approach anyone that she saw and go off. She never apologized for being rude and my group haven't even been playing for six hours. As paying players on a PUBLIC golf course, there was no reason for her to respond the way her did to the wrong group. I wish I got her name, but I was too upset to even bother. read more

Course was okay. Old dude at the pro shop needs to take a class on mannerism and attitude. One of the worst interactions at a pro shop that we have experienced. We were on the way to arrive about 30 minutes before our tee time but arrived 7 minutes before because of an accident that held fway standstill. He acted like a douche about "checking in 20 minutes early"... like sorry sir lol. Was super passive aggressive about everything he was telling explaining to us. Sighing and rolling his eyes to our faces. You're lucky nobody came over that desk and smacked your hairline further than it was. What a way to act towards guests who PAY for course time. Not sure why this place isn't rated higher on this website. It's a great public course with a grass range (almost impossible to find at public courses) and an excellent club house for 19th hole beers. This is a great course to play for beginners who are just starting to play 18 holes. Most of the holes are straight ahead with minimum hazards. Very flat as well, so it's easy to walk if you don't want to spend the extra money on a cart. If you do rent a cart, bring some ice to load into the cart cooler so you can have cold waters during your round or... other, more fun beverages. I am knocking it down one star for two small reasons: 1. The course is right under the flight path of Van Nuys airport, so you do have to listen to airplanes taking off right above you. It's a bit distracting, especially if it happens when you're teeing off. 2. The starter here is a grumpy, not very nice dude. Even when I come to just practice on the range, I can hear him barking and being rude to people over the PA system. The guy needs to get a new job - he clearly hates working here. Other than that, this is one of the nicer, prettier public LA courses. Highly recommend for an easy round at a nice place that doesn't cost very much. Enjoy! read more

The course is fun, I play here often. Usually early morning before work. But the older gentleman in the pro shop in the morning during the week has just the WORST attitude ever. Now I'm not asking to be greeted with roses. But just a simple greeting, and decent attitude would work. I'm not asking for customer service etiquette, but just simple human to human interaction. Be very careful where you park at this park. Do not park at the administrative office parking lot, because on 10/21/24 at 6:00 pm, my rear, passenger window was shattered into many pieces. And to make matters worse, my purse was stolen. My purse was covered and not in sight. Also, within 20 minutes of the crime, my cards were being charged on. I reported all my cards, but the thief was able to charge several hundred of dollars. A police report was made. Lesson learned: Always park where there are a lot of cars, or do not return to Balboa Park for bike riding. VERY SAD read more

The employees at the starter's office talk & treat you like they have "No Time for You; Totally Unprofessional!" I think they Need to be reminded that Playing Golf is Not Cheap and there are Many surrounding Golf Courses to choose from. They should be more polite and thankful that Golfers are spending time & money at their course. I simply called to inquire about a lost 3-wood head cover from the previous day, and the Jerk on the phone Refused to check. He had the audacity to tell me, instead of actually performing a check, "we can't discuss those matters over the phone." Really? WTF. Obviously, there is no good leadership going on there, they should be embarrassed. Finally, when you look at the courses' overall review and there are more 1 star reviews than 3, 4, & 5's that should tell you something. My son and I had a great time playing the 18 holes at Woodley. We were teamed up with two great guys that lived in the area. These guys really had a great attitude and made the really hot day seem a lot cooler. We in voted them for a day on the course in Vegas the next time they are in the area. The grounds were well kept with nice broad fairways and forgiving boundaries. The greens were a medium speed that was easy to gauge. Like I mentioned, it was very hot out but there was areas of reprieve under trees here and there. Overall it was a challenging course but not bad or impossible. read more

Poorly maintained. The grass has overgrown even on the fairway, making it impossible to even find your ball sometimes. If this was a high quality course with narrow fairways I would understand but this is supposed to be a cheap municipal course. This review is specifically about the range. Positive: Often it isn't too crowded (a rarity in Los Angeles). Cheaper than some other places. Negative: If you're rushing here after work hoping to make it before they stop dispensing balls at the published 9 p.m. cut-off, don't bother. Twice over the past two weeks I've flown over and arrived WELL before 9 p.m. only to find the door already pulled down over the machine. This is a huge disappointment when you're driving an hour round trip and it's your only chance for weekday golf. If someone from Woodley sees this, please either move up the cut-off or stick to the one that's published. Thank you. read more

Woodley Lakes Golf Course is one of my favorite courses in LA because it is clean, wide, and long enough 6,805 yards. They have good practice putting greens before we start. Even though the course name contains lakes, there are no visible bothering lakes ironically. read more

I had great interactions with the employees. No clue what those other stuck up reviewers are talking about. These employees are out there working their butts off in the middle of a pandemic in hot summer heat at an inexpensive muni course. All you *wanna be country club members but you're too poor old men* have to appreciate people who are serving you in times like these. Wouldn't surprise me if the same folks leaving rude reviews are anti-masker "plandemic" conspiracy nuts. Bartender/server was very kind and followed proper protocol. Their sandwiches are pre-packaged with condiments and silverware which is a nice touch. Check-in guy was super funny and gave us all laughs when he announced the groups over the loudspeaker. Yeah, the new carts have GPS and lock up near the greens... why are you driving your carts on the green anyway?! Park it and walk your lazy butt around. Unbelievable. Not to mention GPS carts like this have been around for YEARS. Sorry you had to encounter new scary technology after crawling out from under your moldy rock. If you don't like GPS carts, WALK THE COURSE. What's that? You're too much of a lazy old curmudgeon? Stop by the bar and have a shot. Or two. You need to loosen up. read more

Positives: The course is wide open and easy. Decently maintained. Great new driving range where you can hit off real grass. Negatives: The new carts are annoying as they shut off if you get remotely close to greens and you have to get out and push them back. The staff is completely incompetent and extremely rude. No drink/snack carts. The negatives highly outweighs the positives. Golf Encino courses if possible. They aren't great by any means either but they are definitely better than Woodley. read more

NO AVAILABLE BATHROOMS anywhere in the entire facility because they were "out of order". All bathroom doors were locked up as well so there were no options for myself, a woman, to pee. Considering the entirety of the coarse is an open and a continuously crowded field, the only option I was left with was squatting in front of a small tree that had little to no coverage from the several golfers surrounding the premises. The fact that the facility didn't provide any backup restrooms such as a simple porta potty really shows how little they care about their customers. read more

Customer service is terrible they have zero clue on how they take payments , Caused a long line and I was waiting 20 minutes before my time which resulted in them giving my tee time to people on the wait list. Worker says out loud that he has two open spots as I'm telling him I'm right here for my tee time. He looks straight at me ignores me and proceeds to give away my spots to regulars who they knew . Rude female was giving smart remarks the entire time about how I wasn't able to check in on time when I was literally right infront of them. I demanded to speak to management and when he arrived it turned into a screaming / cussing match with one another . I would expect much more from the city of LA employees. I asked for the person higher than him and he told me to " fuck off bitch " Staff wanted to fight me and I should have but me having to be the bigger person decided to walk away. Made comments about how I don't " look like a golfer and not in golf attire". To top things off out of all that they still charged me a no show fee when I was literally there. Unbelievable that after 9 holes playing through a torrential downpour today, they refused to give me a raincheck for the remaining 9. It's not like I was asking for a free round, just a credit for 9. There was thunder and lightning and they still wouldn't hear it. I've played there so many times and was always a great customer. They need to learn to do the right thing. When I was at Roger Dunn Golf Shops later this evening, I was talking to the guy behind the counter and told him what happened...he said they are known to be the worst course in the area in terms of customer service (and a few other things...which I won't mention...yet). If they don't do the right thing, they'll lose this customer as well. read more
