I came across Woods Creek Rescue, filled out the application, and heard back within a week to schedule a meet and greet with a puppy we were interested in. Tammy was quick to respond and quick to schedule time for my family. The meet and greet went incredibly well and Tammy came to our home the very next day with the puppy. I cannot begin to explain how grateful we are for Tammy. I saw a new post asking for help on facebook, and asked why appeal for help if you don't respond to inquiries and the owner tried to shame me for not having patience. I applied to adopt a dog from there but have heard zip, zero, nada in 2 weeks. Then when researching the same dog on the web, he came up as 'no longer available' on another rescue site. Another rescue site had same dog on a 2 year old post saying it was updated a year ago. The rescue might be totally legitimate but too many Red flags started going off for me. And the icing on the cake was when I saw same dog in a picture from this site, wearing a prong collar! There are a lot of rescues out there so be sure to do your homework first. read more

All communication was done by email. -March 2nd- I started the adoption process on using petfinder.com -March 3rd- WCR sent a response with some basic questions. I answered them the same day. -March 8th- 5 days later: (A) Me - (B) WCR (A) Can I meet the dog? // (B) Sunday? // (A) Great, when and where? // (B) No followup. -March 17th- 9 days later: (A) I heard nothing back about last Sunday. Is the dog still available? - I left a phone number to call. -March 18th - (B) "I was sick and unable to meet and greet. Is there a time on Monday?" // (A) 4pm? // (B) Ok. Address and instructions were given for the visit. -March 20th- I arrive early at the address. Walked back and forth across the property to different buildings, and knocked on doors. Because all the hosted dogs were barking, I honked the horn a few times just in case. No one was around - Left after 20 minutes, and sent a message about the missed meeting. -March 21st- (B) "My apologies. My Dad who is 80 lost his GF and I thought you were coming today. He needed my help." I completely understand sickness and emergencies - life will happen. Being an advocate for animals is commendable, and it takes a great deal of work to manage so many, but unfortunately, in this case, there was a lack of consideration for the human element. I lost my senior dog last year after loving her and giving her the world for eight years. After many months of healing, I saw a dog at this rescue and fell in love. Before adopting her, I waited until my new job started that allows me to work from home 3 days per week and once she was ready, could take her to work with me the other two days. Keeping her safe was my top priority. I bought her a car seat that buckles in and made the mistake of unbuckling her for 5 mins while I ran inside a house. I left the window cracked, underestimating how tiny she is. When I saw that she was gone, I looked frantically for 3 hours. Posted on Craigslist, Nextdoor, and animal control. I also immediately contacted Tammy at Woods Creek to get the info to update her microchip because she forgot the card when came for the home visit and said she would text me a picture. I contacted Tammy so that when my dog was found, I would get the call. Instead, I was called by someone at the rescue letting me know that the dog had been found and Tammy picked her up and was taking her back to the rescue. Followed by the words "you broke the contract and you're not getting her back." I didn't have her for very long, but we bonded immediately. She followed me everywhere, sat on my lap constantly (even fought with my laptop once because it was in her spot. She won). I sent my family and friends countless pictures and videos telling them how much I loved her. I tried reasoning with Tammy, explaining that I am the legal owner. It became clear that Tammy was very emotionally attached to the dog I adopted, and instead of responding in a professional manner during a devastating day, blamed me for not using the type of collar or leash she recommended (having nothing to do with the situation) and told me that I "hurt her" (her being Tammy, not the dog). It all feels very surreal. I spoke with a police officer who was also shocked by the situation and gave me information for filing a civil claim. The worst part is that Tammy made me out to be a villain on the Woods Creek Fb page. She said I took the dog to a friend's house and just left her in the car. The reality is that we were at a house I own and I was simply stopping by to drop some materials off for my handyman. I took her along for the car ride and she loved sticking her little nose out the window (while being safety buckled in) as you can see in the picture. I am so thankful that Anna was found safely. I was hesitant about reviewing this rescue because Tammy has a history of going after anyone that has something honest to say about her rescue on social media. I didn't want the drama but after some time I am ready to share my encounters with this Rescue. Just recently I was notified by a friend that the dog I was very heavily invested in adopting from Wood Creek is still there. It isn't right to keep these dogs from families who are available and that will provide a good home. For months I pursued a dog from this rescue. My husband and I are very well known in the pet community because of the life we had to provide for our previous doggo, Groot, who sadly passed away in December 2022. At first Tammy said she never got my applications but then finally replied to a PM on Facebook stating that the dog I was interested in would not be a good fit in a rental unit and that I am not a good fit to have any animal. I am sure that this statement is going to be challenged but I have screenshots of EVERY conversation encounter that I have had with Wood Creek, message and comments just Incase. I was actually very offended and felt discriminated against because of the way I was being responded to. I then shared my disappointment with a very detailed response about how that was incorrect judgement. I 100% do not recommend this rescue. You will fall in love with a fur baby just to be lead on vaguely and then ignored. After a few weeks of allowing myself to feel the heart break of not getting the chance to give the dog I was interested a loving home. I picked myself back up and came across an AMAZING rescue called Animal Kingdom Rescue, ARK for short. They are located in Houston, Texas but work with PetSmart in Oregon and Washington locations. They rescue dogs that are in kill shelters and drive them up the coast, holding adoptions for all aged doggos. We rescued our amazing doggo, Dewey, who will be with us now for a little over a month and it has been the best! It also feels great to be reminded that we are a good fit for any dog. I hope that Wood Creek Rescue changes the way they run it's business. That they actually start to communicate professionally. That way these dogs actually can get adopted but don't say I didn't warn you about the let down. read more

Woods Creek Rescue operations are suspect. No phone contact, only email, no presence on PetFinder or other adoption sites, no stated criteria for surrender on their website or verbally. Prior to engaging them I searched, but couldn't find reviews (I assumed this meant positive things), so this is a PSA. The decision to surrender my puppy was heartbreaking and not entered into lightly. I'd worked with 2 trainers prior but they concurred she would not be suitable as an emotional support animal as she had extreme fear in new environments and especially with other dogs. I contacted WCR who promised a rehabilitation environment for my shy and severely anxious 17 week puppy. They asked nothing about her history, needs or behaviors, simply asked for a photo and when they could pick her up. I should've stopped there, but they advertise themselves as "rehabilitation" and I hoped she would get the training that would help her become a good family dogs. They collected my puppy and had me sign a "surrender form." I was shown a folded paper with only a signature line visible, and was not permitted to hold or read the document. Again, a red flag and I wish I'd backed out then! 2 days later I saw a video WCR posted to their FB page and have since removed (I recorded a copy) of my puppy 1) in a cement outdoor pen with 8-10 active dogs of all sizes, 2) she was cowering in the corner, 3) based on comments by the human recording, had not yet toileted or drank water, 4) when she was afraid to go into an indoor gated area with 8-10 active dogs she was dragged by a leash, and 4) a human was repeatedly yelling "no, no, no" without training actions or commands given to these dogs. Based on this video I contacted WCR and asked them to return my puppy. I also made repeated requests for a copy of the signed form. I was not only ignored, but WCR attempted to file harassment charges. When I posted a negative review of the business they again called the Sheriff who assured me I'm well within my consumer rights. I retained an attorney and WCR called the OR Bar Assoc to state they were being harassed. I filed complaints with the Oregon Secretary of State who licenses their non-profit, and the Better Business Bureau. Aside from going to court and sharing my experience, I'm not sure what else I can do. I only hope no other dogs or humans experience this type of "rescue" in the future. read more
