When that is no longer the case and tough decisions need to be made, we had an excellent experience with Compassionate Care to say goodbye to our pup. Let me start by saying that every administrative and customer service interaction was timely, clear, and concise. The last thing you want in this situation are delays and confusion. Once I reached out through the contact link on their website, the email response with details about their different services happened within 10 minutes. An intake call to make arrangements for a euthanasia visit at our home was answered by a human and only took a few minutes. They recommend making a reservation 48-hours in advance, but we were put on a wait-list and we moved up our reservation when things opened up. I appreciate that you can reschedule (with four hours advance notice) as well. They have a variety of services, Eco-friendly cremation, and memorial pieces. Everything was arranged in advance, including payment through their web portal, so when the vet arrived for the appointment it was all about our boy and his (and our) comfort. Dr. Wilson clearly walked us through the process, gave us time to say goodbye, provided options, and was a wonderful partner in the process. Cremation is done at a facility in N. Portland, but they have the option of picking up the cremains in Oregon City which was more convenient for us. Having gone through this experience with another pet where we took them to the vet's office, I would highly recommend this option for the pet's comfort. It just felt better saying goodbye in a familiar space surrounded by love.

I had submitted an online enquiry a few days before bc we knew her time was near. I received a prompt and helpful email response. When we decided it was time, we called in the morning and were able to get a same day appointment, but it was only available after hours for an extra $125. Dr. Kathy was wonderful. She was compassionate, patient, calm and collected. She did not rush us and explained everything in a way that made it just a little bit less stressful. Our dog was 120 pounds so the 3 of us carried her out in a stretcher afterwards and she was wrapped in a blanket which was a more sensitive way to carry her outside vs looking at her body. The reason for 3 stars was the compassion ended at the remains pickup. We received the email that she was ready and it did not say to make an appointment, just gave us walk in hours. We arrived to pick up Kaya's ashes and checked in with Megan the woman at the front desk. She said we needed to hurry up because another family was coming in. She shoved the paperwork at us to sign and hurried us along. After a long drive, my husband asked to use the restroom and was told "no" because another family was coming in. After spending over $1,000 it was a cold and harsh end to what was otherwise a good experience. My husband asked for her name and pointed out to Megan that she was not being compassionate especially with what we were going through and that this would be added to our review for the facility. Only then did her tone change and she reluctantly said "ok, you can use the bathroom" but by then we were upset and just wanted to get out of there like the initial intent was from the receptionist from the beginning. This facility is large. If it's an issue, then they should ask you to make an appointment or have a separate pickup and drop off location.

It never gets easier. Our experience with Compassionate Care, specifically with Dr. Marie Worobets, was by far the most beautiful and peaceful passing we have ever known. The appointment was scheduled for almost 2 weeks in advance. The day before the appointment, the vet contacted me about what time I should give my cat gabapentin - she was having blood drawn and needs the sedation. An hour after she contacted me, my appointment was canceled via a canned email. No explanation as to why, but it mentioned calling to reschedule and offered a $50 off coupon for the hassle. The following day I did that. I confirmed an appointment over the phone and, moments later, received a text, saying someone would be calling because my appointment couldn't be confirmed. I called back after a few hours because no one called me. I got another appointment scheduled for the following week. In the meantime, I was asked to send records, which I did, via email. I received a message saying that the emails were empty - - my files weren't showing up. But when I opened the messages, the PDFs were all there. I resent them and asked if they received them, but never got an answer. Didn't matter anyway because, by then, my third appointment had an issue. I received an email saying that it couldn't confirm because I hadn't filled out the payment information on their website. There was no way I was planning to pay ahead of time, especially with all of the problems I was having keeping an appointment with them. I called again and they couldn't figure out why I would need to pay ahead of time because that's not a requirement. I have never not paid a vet bill and I have good credit so there shouldn't have been a problem. I began to feel like it was deliberate. I started to feel like the vet, who had been here before, didn't want to come back for some reason. So I actually made a fourth appointment, but didn't ask for her specifically. Everything went without a hitch on the phone and I picked a window of time from 4 to 7. But then I got the confirmation email with a time of 12 to 4. I had given it enough tries, and I decided that if this is how it goes on the administrative side, what kind of treatment is my pet going to have? Three tries would've been enough. I gave it four. I'm taking my business elsewhere. I asked who to complain to after the second issue and was told I would get a form to fill out, sent via email. That never happened. They also said a liaison would call me. Never happened. After the third time I was told a liaison would contact me. Again, never happened. When I called after the fourth mishap, I was told a liaison would contact me. Guess what? It never happened. So, since you don't seem to have anywhere to make complaints, I'm making it public here.

To say I deeply despise this woman would be an understatement…read more I am writing this review so that other grieving pet parents can protect themselves and their beloved animals during their final moments. My experience with this vet was completely devoid of the compassion, dignity, and professional ethics one expects when saying goodbye to a pet. During the in-home euthanasia of my dog, her demeanor was impatient and cold, bringing a palpable negative energy to a deeply sacred moment. During his final breaths, she delivered an inappropriate, bizarre speech that offered no comfort. Most horrifyingly, shortly after my dog passed, she lifted his body by his tail. This was a shocking display of disrespect to a deceased animal and an utterly heartbreaking thing for a grieving family to witness. The financial handling of this situation was equally predatory. I was quoted $625 for the euthanasia/transport and $600 as a deposit for a third-party cremation. After she left, I had to ask her four separate times over 24 hours just to get the name of the crematorium. Upon researching the facility she used, I found terrible reviews and immediately informed her I would be transporting my dog myself and requested a refund for the $600 cremation fee. Rather than refunding the amount for a service she never provided, she withheld $425 of my money, retroactively claiming it was for "services rendered in good faith." She never provided an itemized receipt upfront, never disclosed any non-refundable policies, and has refused to send legal documentation or an invoice since. As a result of her predatory practices to pocket more money than she was rightfully owed for her services, I have now paid over $2k total to move his cremation to a respectable facility. I do not doubt for a moment that Elisabeth chooses this questionable facility specifically to increase her profits, thereby grossly misrepresenting the cost of her services vs cremation. She takes advantage of grieving families at their most vulnerable. She was cold and unhelpful during billing concerns. Between the utter lack of respect for my pet's body and the deceptive billing practices, I cannot warn people away from this practitioner strongly enough. A complaint has been filed with the Veterinary Medical Board, and I will pursue every possible avenue to hold her accountable for taking advantage of people.
