The wall started to lean slightly within 5 years as it was not built with drainage in mind. This time around, I wanted the retaining wall build the right way. I called Charles and Son Construction & Landscaping to get an estimate because I prefer someone local and was pleased with their online reviews. Carlos arrived as scheduled to write up the estimate. He immediately suggested re-using the blocks since they seemed to be in decent condition and would save money. I met with another company the day prior and was originally planning on getting a 3rd estimate. After getting Carlos' very reasonable estimate and asking a few question regarding timeline, I approved the estimate and was ready to move forward. Just 3 days later, the work started and was finished just 4 days later with a Sunday and a rainy Monday that was a wash out. I was so pleased since this has been on my todo list for the last several years and relieved to have it done correctly. My neighbor was also pleased to get part of his yard back. I highly recommend Charles and Son Construction & Landscaping for any outdoor project. You won't be disappointed. I plan on calling Charles and Son Construction & Landscaping again in a couple of years for driveway and walkway pavers.

Despite initially…read moreraising my concerns and requesting them to revisit the issue, it took an excessive amount of time and multiple phone calls from me to prompt their response. Eventually, Larry from Cannon Patio and Driveway visited, but his solution was inadequate. He simply suggested sealing the areas where gravel was coming up, without addressing the sinking and discoloration of the driveway caused by regular vehicle use. They were initially hired to tear out my old driveway, regrade, level, and asphalt it. Their work was rushed and subpar. The regrading and leveling have failed, resulting in puddles forming on the driveway. Asphalt is already starting to loosen and come apart, which is unacceptable considering the amount of money I paid for their services. They provided a quote for the project, but when it came time to settle the bill, they charged a higher price. They claimed it was due to miscalculations regarding the amount of gravel needed. This pricing scheme is deceptive, and I regret not conducting thorough research on contractors before hiring them. Be careful and DYOR. Don't make the same mistake I made.

Larry came by to give an estimate for the driveway. His crew was ready in 2 days and got to work…read morequickly. When they removed some sod on the side of the driveway, Larry asked if they could put it in my back yard. Larry also said his crew would compact it down and make it level. I told him he could do that. Big mistake on my end, not only did they do a horrible job of leveling, they also left pieces of asphalt in the sod, which ended up in my backyard as well. At that time I was also having my entire backyard redone. The paver company that was finishing there work saw the sod Larry's guys threw in the back and were pretty upset, since they had already leveled the entire backyard prior to this. As for the driveway, everything was going good until the roller would not start. Instead, Larry's crew used there asphalt compactor. It worked okay, but not the same result as a roller. Another issue was the Belgium block border joints. The crew tried to make it a little fancier with the cemented joints that protrude an inch over the top and sides. It looked nice at first, but 2-3 months later 50% of the protruding part cracked off. Overall rating (1-10) Crew: 8 Larry: 6 Driveway: 7 Backyard sod placement: -1

Six months later, we contacted them again, explaining we were ready to move forward, but that we didn't know what style we wanted. Steve said he'd been thinking about our home and had a unique idea in mind. We worked with him to design the concept, and Steve was wonderful the entire time. He took the time to explain to us how everything would come together, and to walk us through all of the material and design choices. He was also so friendly to all of us, including my mother in law and young children. He even had our little ones make hand prints and write their names with the date at the bottom as the final step! In the end, we LOVE our steps, and we get compliments from friends and neighbors all the time. We HIGHLY recommend Steve and his team at Exceptional Stone Products!
