There so many thoughtful touches, a pathway for my dads wheelchair, mulch barriers from my neighbors wild flowers, storage for our kayaks. The transformation was huge, it's like a whole new house. Third job: (Last fall) paid for manual pulling/removal of Bermuda grass from garden beds, plus weed control and mulch. Emphasis on manual removal - explicitly was told they would pull all the Bermuda out manually to get all the roots out. Took a bit of chasing around to get them to actually get it on the books, and then when they did come they just buzzed everything with a string trimmed and sprayed weed killer over that. We agreed to still pay the full price on the condition that Gairy would send a team out in the spring once the Bermuda woke up and inevitably came through the mulch since it wasn't removed. He agreed, and we left it at that. Flash forward to this year and has completely ghosted us and been non-responsive. Even tried asking about having a bunch of other services added so that it wouldn't be a totally free trip, but still No luck. We finally gave up on any hope of getting the promised services, hired Mr. Outdoor Living, dropped like $4K on services with them instead and will be sticking with them next year when we do a sprinkler system and stone retaining walls.

He asked how we wanted to move forward and I said please prepare a quote to which he responded "I don't do that, I can give you a ballpark and if your serious I can be more detailed once you want to move forward". I responded in surprise so what what is your 90% ballpark estimate as we discussed (understanding minor adjustments and design changes can change cost as well as materials prices). His response was 30k so I asked he email me it as we discussed to confirm the size and design and again he said I don't do that and if you want to move forward we can get more detailed. I asked him directly " am I detecting an attitude in your responses as my desire is to make sure we are on the same page. If I can't get the estimating person to provide a basic estimate to build off with out a tone that I should just agree and hand him my cash is unacceptable. A basic estimate would have taken him maybe 15 minutes and would lay out timelines, payment schedule and clarification on what the 30k provides is not to much to expect. Under no conditions would I agree to any work where I get a fraction of my desires addressed / confirmed understanding and then be spoken to like "agree to us doing it then we can address your questions with a condescending tone. I thanked him and walked him to his vehicle. I called the office and explained my dissatisfaction and refuse to use a company that the sales person can not keep his frustration in check and forgot I am the one paying for the project and not some guy on the street that was interfering with his day. Attitude and respect sets the stage and if providing a quote is an annoyance, then don't advertise a free quote (perhaps the old saying you you get what you pay for is true, I paid noting and got my money's worth). This is the first time we seriously considered terminating a contractor mid-project. Communication was consistently poor, the project schedule and material ordering were severely mismanaged, and the crew showed up only six days over an almost two month period in the summer when the majority of work should have been completed, contributing to turning what should have been a three month job into a six month project. Job-site cleanup was not maintained, significant errors were made, and there was resistance and defensiveness when those mistakes needed to be corrected. Rather than taking accountability, the company disputed issues that were clearly the result of their own lack of oversight and execution. Overall, the level of service, organization, and workmanship fell far below what we've experienced with other contractors and what you would expect at this price point.

Watson iron and steel did our railing for our back porch in 2019. They had to come back and make…read moresome corrections, but all in all, we were pleased with their work. We had them come back out a few months ago to measure for our new railing on our front porch. We told the man who came out to literally replicate the railings THEY made to match the back porch exactly. He looked and the back railings, measured the height, the distance between the pickets, etc. I was very clear, and he seemed to understand perfectly... it was simple "just make the exact same thing you made last time." Yep, got it! Well apparently it wasn't as simple as it seemed! On the order, they added additional posts instead of screwing into our pillars, and they added twice as many pickets. The communication between the man who came to take our order and the woman who executed the order was obviously quite poor. They told us that they needed to come out and measure again since we didn't want the additional posts, and even though it was their error, they still charged us an additional fee because they had to make another trip out. We argued endlessly about the fee, but finally gave up and just paid the fee. It was ridiculous. fast forward to today... It still isn't what we asked for! They did screw the railing into our columns instead of installing additional posts. But we still have twice as many pickets out front as we do in the back. It looks tacky, and after shelling out over $3K for the tiny railing, I hate it. I asked my husband what he wanted to do about it, and he said not to bother because there's no way they're going to fix it now that we have already paid them. Isn't that sad? That we're not even going to bother trying to work things out with these people because we know they won't do it. And don't forget, we're repeat customers. I wish there were more iron companies in and around Charlotte, but sadly, this seems to be the only one. The first picture is our back porch railing. There are 6 inches between the pickets. The second picture is our front porch. There are 3 inches between each packet. They definitely don't match.
