I took my guitar in for a setup and got it back home with a bunch of paint chips and dings that weren't there before. They haven't returned calls, emails, or messages. It's a bummer to write this since I've been going to Woody's for over ten years. read more

Picked a guitar off the hook and the tag hung on the hook and the hook feel to the floor . I held onto the guitar the sales person ran over and ask me if I just bought the guitar I explained what happen she took the guitar from me and was inspecting it as if I was not telling the truth , I put the hook back on the wall she then took the hook I told her the guitar did not drop to the floor , I actually had planned on buying the guitar that's why I went over to get it off the hook. But after the rude paranoid responses I received I decided to buy it elsewhere. A really weird energy and passive aggressive vibe during the visit. I'll not not shop here again . I am pretty handy with guitars, but mine (not purchased there) was cutting out. I replaced a few things and finally conceded I was in over my head. I took it in and within 24 hours it was returned to me fully functioning. More importantly, the cost of the repair was only $20. I am not suggesting the average repair for a guitar would be anywhere near $20 bucks. What it does tell me though is they don't take advantage of a situation if the repair is minor on their end. read more

My grandson and I visited Woody's new store last week. As in the past from their old store we were greeted and made welcome. Problem: The store smelled of cigarette smoke which was offensive to both of us. We didn't stick around long and glad to make it outside for fresh air. read more

I've been a Woody's customer for over a decade -- purchased a couple of guitars, a bass for my Dad and an amp from there, and it's always been my go-to place for picks and strings over the years. The owner and staff have always been super friendly, chatty and helpful, which inspired me to recommend Woody's to friends looking to buy guitars or other musical instruments. I still recommend them when it comes to that. However ... I received a whole different treatment when I recently went into Woody's looking to SELL an instrument. The owner would barely even look at me, and they made me wait around awkwardly for ages for someone to actually check out my guitar. In the end, a young man with a sour expression on his face quickly looked my instrument over and offered $25, which I just as quickly declined (I later sold it on eBay for $200). I do understand that Woody's is a small business and needs to make a profit. I totally support that. This review is more about how they made me feel like an unwelcome weasel during the experience than it is about the offer itself. In a nutshell, you'll get down-home, personal service when you go to Woody's to make a purchase, but expect big-box store treatment if you're selling something there. Please change that mindset, Woody's, or you'll lose even more customers. read more

Woody's Music opened around 1991/92 and I've been going there on a consistent basis. The owner, Tim, is one of the most genuine and nicest guys you'd ever want to meet... and he's funny. You can catch him (although rarely these days) playing mandolin and singing in the store. They deal primarily with new & used cd's but they have a few lp's in the mix. Most cd's are around 10-15 dollars & the used cd's go for 4-8 dollars. They also carry used dvd's and video games to complete their selection. Over the years, Woody's has started to carry more and more musical instruments. From guitars to amps to drum kits, etc. They actually have more instruments in stock than they do cd's and dvd's. They give lessons there in one of their studios in the back. Woody's still buys back used cd's, dvd's, games, etc. for cash or store credit. (I remember selling cd's there when I was in college for beer money.) Easy to find, right behind The Bookworm (corner of Charlotte Ave. & Cherry Rd.) As a sign of the times, Woody's started off as a new/used cd store and (with the help of the internet and downloading) has adapted itself to one of the premiere musical instrument stores around for sales, service & lessons. read more

I actually stopped in at their new TEGA CAY store. Apparently yelp doesn't list THAT location. Great music store, friendly, very knowledgeable and helpful. Lessons available and nicely stocked with nice selection of guitars and other instruments. I was able to pick up a few 6& 12 strings and play them to my hearts content without the pressure to buy anything. I WILL purchase my next guitar here and sign up my little girl for piano lessons. This store is on Gold Hill road at 160 in the shopping center with Planet Fitness. read more

Glen was great - Every time I am in the place. I've bought a bass, a mandolin, a vocal trainer (over the phone), and a wireless unit for my instrument from there(and the rail kit.). Not to mention picks, strings, straps. About the only thing they don't have is a ready made audience! LOL If you want to play, go to Woodies! You have to get your own audience. read more
